I have a friend right now, at 60 has become the caretaker of her 72 yr old bedridden husband. She has to feed (can’t feed himself or even hold his own drinks) change his diaper and all before leaving to hold down her full-time job. I help him when she’s not there. She then gets home at 7:30 pm, cooks dinner, feeds him, changes diaper and then takes her own shower and collapses in bed to start the day the same way. It’s hard on her, I do the best I can to lighten her load. I know I would not want to walk even a mile in her shoes for one day. He says quite often how he feels like such a burden on everyone. She tells him “ I took vows, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, so stop talking like that.” And just a few years ago, he took care of her while she fought cancer. I really admire that woman. And she stays strong in her faith and thanks God in everything that comes.

I know a woman about 58, she has now permanently ruined her body because she was always lifting her big heavy husband who I realise is paralized on one side, but he could have managed to roll over on his good side and assist her somehow.

People don't realize how hard it can be to care for someone with a chronic illness or a serious handicap. I watched my mother go through this with my dad when he was in and out of the hospital for 2 years with serious health issues. It was a revelation. I had never seen my mom so stressed or so scared in my entire life. Of course, it didn't help that she refused to ask for help. If you know someone in this position, please help them in any way you can and encourage them to get away from time to time. Also consider that it may be difficult to find help in a rural area. If family and neighbors had stepped up to the plate this might not have happened. I have a chronic condition, but am lucky to live in a good nursing home. In the States, we don't have the best support for families in this position, and what is available is expensive.
She murdered her husband and it was premeditated, because she had the knife being sharpened 2 weeks before. And then she wanted to blame 2 innocent young men. It’s ridiculous she only got 2 years and served only one and lived happily ever after for another 12 years. She should have gotten a life sentence! This was not justice at all.
@@hilomona Screw you! One of the elderly friends of my (now deceased) elderly mother told me how her first marriage was to an abusive man. She didn't kill him; he drank himself to death instead. She vowed she would never have anything to do with men after that, and lived for her children and later grandchildren. Then, at age seventy, she met a man who she described as 'the love of her life'. It was instant, two-way love at first sight. They married, she followed him to the UK, leaving her family behind, and was blissfully happy for the next few years. Then, I believe after four years, he got serious health problems which reduced him within the year to a near vegetative state. She became his full time carer. Had to wash, dress and feed him and clean him after a full diaper. She did this 'till his death, six years later. When I met her, she was in her early nineties. Still a stern, no-nonsense, sturdy woman, even though no longer as robust as before, and prodded her for stories about her life. She would tell me about her abusive childhood, her 'escape' from that to her marriage with her drunken abusive husband and her face would be like stone. Then she would talk about her precious few years with her Terry and her face would lit up and soften. I asked if caring for him wasn't hard and she said, "it isn't hard when you love someone". And then there is you.
I would have been suspicious the moment the woman said that the robbers ran off and left the loot behind when she entered the room. Why would two young male robbers who just murdered an old man run away at the sight of his equally old wife? Believing that granny scared them off is entirely unbelievable to me.

Then the old bird gets out & hangs on another 12 years. So unfair. My husband was ill for many years before I lost him, & I was his only caregiver until he required more than I was capable of (I was diagnosed with cancer, & am now quite ill), & he went to a nursing facility for the last 3 years of his life. At no time could I have fathomed just killing him off. Good God, he was my life! Apparently Miss Audrey didn't understand how real love works. All she needed to do was ask for help. So sad for both their families.

She did not have diminished capacity. This was a well planned, calculated murder. If she was tired of caring for him, hire help, or place him in a nursing home.
It wasn't that well planned because she left too many gaping holes for the police to find. Maybe they couldn't afford help or a nursing home. Neither are cheap and I have no idea from this video what their financial circumstances were. She may have gotten burnt out taking care of him herself at her age (it is physically and mentally tough) and snapped. It happens in these circumstances. I don't condone her solution to the situation at all, but I can see how it happened suddenly.

My elderly father punched me in the face, I called the police and when the police arrived he lied to them and said I hit him. They believed him because of his age (even though I was the one bleeding and he had cuts on his knuckles from my teeth) I can definitely see how they were taken in by this evil old woman 😔

It certainly sounds that she played the role of the "frail little old lady" with "diminished responsibility" very well and in so doing, managed to hoodwink the legal system. I am a strong advocate for the rights of senior citizens, having worked as a healthcare professional specialising in elderly care - but i also know from direct experience that the myth of the "tiny frail old lady/gentleman" is frequently just that - a myth.

While I certainly think we all need to have a responsibility towards the elderly in our society, to respect, love and care for them- letting them get away with all kinds of things, including murder is not justice. Just because she was old, didn't mean she had diminished capacity. This woman was very calculating and wanted two random young men who she just so happened to see going into the pub next door to take the fall. Yes, I also spent time in healthcare for the elderly and they can be as mean as heck, plus very strong. Just because they are old doesn't mean a thing.

We can't pretend that caring for someone in bad health is easy by any means. It's not selfish to understand that not everyone is capable of devoting the better part of their life to care-giving. Hence why nursing homes and homecare professionals exist. Audrey Hingston could've asked for help and should've. If she couldn't take the strain of care-giving, she should've informed his family so that they find help for him and then left.
that's all brave of you to admit, I had a bug stroke and lost the use of my left side, I cane walk but with a cane and not for long distances, I cannot dress or shower or cook on my own I cannot mange my medication, or appointments or drive (the stroke left me with epilepsy and I need to be seizure free for six months before I can start rehab driving classes before I can try to get my lsdriver'- lisence back (in CA) I have a very limited short term memory now I can remember things that happened ten years ago better than what happened ten minutes ago, it cut my vison by about 60 percent which means I need audio books as I can't see well my husband started out taking excellent care of me and being very loving and supportive, but now twelve years later he's become hypervigilant and controlling ,no longer loving support, but anger and resentment we are both mourning what this has done to our lives and feeling like we lost the person we married it's taken a serious toll on our marriage, ebviously and happiness

I know a young man that was a professional bull rider. He was thrown from a bull in Fort Worth Texas and broke his neck and will never walk again. His girlfriend was with him at the rodeo and stayed with him while he was in the hospital. Hear say he told her if she wanted to move on he would understand. She didn’t leave and they married and later built a very successful bucking bull ranch in North Carolina. His wife can be seen behind the chutes at rodeos working with their bulls. Being paralyzed he can’t do anything and probably requires constant care. What a woman that would take on all of that. His name is Jerome Davis and there are numerous videos on UA-cam about him if you care to look it up. So the bottom line is sickness and health problems can occur at any age. It could result from a car accident and not in just dangerous sports.

Her body had swollen up and had bursted. The decomposition was so bad they never did get the smell out of that house. They finally tore it down. Don't underestimate elderly English women. My grandmother was 89 years old in a wheelchair due to polio, and we got a call from the nursing home saying they called the cops on her for punching a guy. So we get there and there's grandma in her little shawl looking so sweet with the cops next to her wheelchair. I asked her what happened and she goes "well I've told him before not to touch me, but everytime he rolls passed me he whacks my arm. So I warned him if you touch me again I'm going to punch you in your face. And I did." They might look sweet and innocent but that's just because they're good at hiding.

She demonstrated quite well her brain was working at a lot better capacity than some others I've seen charged with just flat out premeditated murder. Diminished capacity my ass! And it was her own family that got her caught. To me, I think that definitely speaks to something with what type of mother/person she might have been. It always turns my stomach when people are treated differently in the court system, be it because of their looks, sex, and in this case age, when they've committed the exact same crimes as others have, that have got way more harsher sentences. If that was a young man who was going through depression there wouldn’t be the same latitude & understanding & sympathy given. I think she got pissed off because her husband was infirmed & useless to her & she up & killed him. Age should not matter when it comes to the callousness of this. I think the fact that she purposely tried to frame 2 innocent people puts down all claims of depression and exhaustion. Imagine if they had not had an alibi, 2 innocents would be in jail with life sentences. A young guy would have been SLAMMED with 20 or so year in England, from what I've seen of their justice system. And that would be a light sentence for murdering a sick old man. Why was an 81 year old woman caretaking a disabled old man?! That is a huge job for even a young person! His children should have hired a caretaker to come in for that job. I put a lot of blàme on his son, who did not even observe that she was overwhelmed!
That was a ridiculously lenient sentence for such an horrendous crime. Age doesn't make any difference. She was a selfish, cold, calculating person who, regardless of mitigating stress, deserved a lot harder sentence.
I thought common police knowledge is that when a murder has been committed the partner or spouse are suspect number one. When single, it's their child/children or other family members. The age of the possible suspect shouldn't be a way to gauge if that theory an option or not. Also the clear giveaway is, why is she still alive when a. the burglar doesn't want to leave witnesses(in the first portrayal the police gave of the murder) and b. when a burglar/murderer kills a bedridden, obviously no threat posing person but doesn't touch a healthy 81 year old woman who is perfectly mobile and is of good physical strength despite her age. An competent police officer or even an avid crime detective lover could have easily solved the case that very saturday morning when Eric was murdered.
Very valid points, but all that logic is eclipsed by our strong bias to age, our evolutionary programmed Genes that dictate our parents and grand parents must be flawless, and are so wise, knowledgeable and richly experienced as to committ such mad, bad crimes.
Personally I would have liked Audrey Hingston placed into a 24/7 lockup facility for elderly people who have dementia/alzheimers disease, or have committed a serious crime such as murder, etc. That way justice would have been served correctly.

And she would have been released after only one Year. There is 50% remission in the UK on prison sentences. I normally would be sympathetic to a lady that was so stressed caring, as I know from my own parents how draining that can be. But I can't forgive her for being so calculating and cold in particular her willingness to throw the two young men under the bus to save her own skin, and she did no matter what her age, deserve more than a two year term, that wasn't any sort of justice.

Murder is murder, at whatever age or “state” in which it is committed. Anyone in their 80s, or far younger for that matter, is as likely to attempt and/or succeed at such a merciless killing of a “loved one”, delighted/“grateful” to the injustice of “depression” as an “excuse” to get off far more easily than their victim, if precedents are set being “depressed” is an excuse for murder. It’s not enough that a killer is considered a “low threat risk”. Audrey’s victim got no justice without a longer sentence.

Whenever I see these press conferences I can always tell if someone is guilty because they don’t look up toward the crowd, they look down and they keep looking down and it just becomes obvious that they’re hiding something.
I understand the severity of the crime, but it has me wondering what sort of financial situation, and what kind of medical and mental supports are available to people in their situation? Maybe, at her advanced age and diminished physical ability, maybe she just couldn’t physically take care of the man, but didn’t have any support system to help her. She may have seen it as the only way to take the burden off of herself. Yes, it is unbelievably wrong, but what if she just couldn’t physically do it anymore, and she couldn’t afford to place him in a facility that could take care of him, where she couldn’t? She was a tiny, frail, woman trying to care for a man who was clearly unable to care for himself. Maybe there was a systemic problem here. It is something worth examining, the whole thing is very sad.
Diminished responsibility? She had the knife sharpened the week before. She attacked him and left him dying while she ransacked their home. She then accused two innocent men. When the heat is on her, she "attempted" suicide and lied about her husband committing suicide. Diminished? More like a monster in an old lady's clothing. She could have just divorced him if she couldn't handle the "for worse" part of the marriage vows. And I don't understand why everything was so rushed and why his family was not informed of the real situation before she was sentenced. It's sickening. I wonder how her first husband died?

Wow. I am providing in home care for one terminally ill Mother and an elderly Uncle with serious health problems of his own. It is round the clock and exhausting. Four years today.I work hard to cultivate the inner strength and outside support systems required. Caregiving is no joke. Sad story.

I have a friend right now, at 60 has become the caretaker of her 72 yr old bedridden husband. She has to feed (can’t feed himself or even hold his own drinks) change his diaper and all before leaving to hold down her full-time job. I help him when she’s not there. She then gets home at 7:30 pm, cooks dinner, feeds him, changes diaper and then takes her own shower and collapses in bed to start the day the same way.
It’s hard on her, I do the best I can to lighten her load. I know I would not want to walk even a mile in her shoes for one day.
He says quite often how he feels like such a burden on everyone. She tells him “ I took vows, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, so stop talking like that.”
And just a few years ago, he took care of her while she fought cancer.
I really admire that woman. And she stays strong in her faith and thanks God in everything that comes.

I know a woman about 58, she has now permanently ruined her body because she was always lifting her big heavy husband who I realise is paralized on one side, but he could have managed to roll over on his good side and assist her somehow.

People don't realize how hard it can be to care for someone with a chronic illness or a serious handicap. I watched my mother go through this with my dad when he was in and out of the hospital for 2 years with serious health issues. It was a revelation. I had never seen my mom so stressed or so scared in my entire life. Of course, it didn't help that she refused to ask for help. If you know someone in this position, please help them in any way you can and encourage them to get away from time to time. Also consider that it may be difficult to find help in a rural area. If family and neighbors had stepped up to the plate this might not have happened. I have a chronic condition, but am lucky to live in a good nursing home. In the States, we don't have the best support for families in this position, and what is available is expensive.
I worked in a nursing home. One 80 something year old had broke a caregivers ribs. They are stronger than you would think.

@@hilomona Screw you! One of the elderly friends of my (now deceased) elderly mother told me how her first marriage was to an abusive man. She didn't kill him; he drank himself to death instead. She vowed she would never have anything to do with men after that, and lived for her children and later grandchildren. Then, at age seventy, she met a man who she described as 'the love of her life'. It was instant, two-way love at first sight. They married, she followed him to the UK, leaving her family behind, and was blissfully happy for the next few years. Then, I believe after four years, he got serious health problems which reduced him within the year to a near vegetative state. She became his full time carer. Had to wash, dress and feed him and clean him after a full diaper. She did this 'till his death, six years later. When I met her, she was in her early nineties. Still a stern, no-nonsense, sturdy woman, even though no longer as robust as before, and prodded her for stories about her life. She would tell me about her abusive childhood, her 'escape' from that to her marriage with her drunken abusive husband and her face would be like stone. Then she would talk about her precious few years with her Terry and her face would lit up and soften. I asked if caring for him wasn't hard and she said, "it isn't hard when you love someone".

What bothers me is the cops were biased and just assumed she didn't do it just because she was old. How did her first husband die?
I would have been suspicious the moment the woman said that the robbers ran off and left the loot behind when she entered the room. Why would two young male robbers who just murdered an old man run away at the sight of his equally old wife? Believing that granny scared them off is entirely unbelievable to me.

At no time could I have fathomed just killing him off. Good God, he was my life! Apparently Miss Audrey didn't understand how real love works. All she needed to do was ask for help. Neither are cheap and I have no idea from this video what their financial circumstances were. She may have gotten burnt out taking care of him herself at her age (it is physically and mentally tough) and snapped. It happens in these circumstances. I don't condone her solution to the situation at all, but I can see how it happened suddenly.

It was a shocking sentence indeed. It certainly sounds that she played the role of the "frail little old lady" with "diminished responsibility" very well and in so doing, managed to hoodwink the legal system. I am a strong advocate for the rights of senior citizens, having worked as a healthcare professional specialising in elderly care - but i also know from direct experience that the myth of the "tiny frail old lady/gentleman" is frequently just that - a myth.
Totally agree. While I certainly think we all need to have a responsibility towards the elderly in our society, to respect, love and care for them- letting them get away with all kinds of things, including murder is not justice. Just because she was old, didn't mean she had diminished capacity.

that's all brave of you to admit, I had a bug stroke and lost the use of my left side, I cane walk but with a cane and not for long distances, I cannot dress or shower or cook on my own I cannot mange my medication, or appointments or drive (the stroke left me with epilepsy and I need to be seizure free for six months before I can start rehab driving classes before I can try to get my lsdriver'- lisence back (in CA) I have a very limited short term memory now I can remember things that happened ten years ago better than what happened ten minutes ago, it cut my vison by about 60 percent which means I need audio books as I can't see well my husband started out taking excellent care of me and being very loving and supportive, but now twelve years later he's become hypervigilant and controlling ,no longer loving support, but anger and resentment we are both mourning what this has done to our lives and feeling like we lost the person we married it's taken a serious toll on our marriage, ebviously and happiness
@@24get24give if you don’t have a lot of money you need to contact “in home support services” in your county if you haven’t already, to get somebody to come in and relieve your husband. His job is 24/7 and I’m sure it’s hard on him as well.

I know a young man that was a professional bull rider. He was thrown from a bull in Fort Worth Texas and broke his neck and will never walk again. His girlfriend was with him at the rodeo and stayed with him while he was in the hospital. Hear say he told her if she wanted to move on he would understand. She didn’t leave and they married and later built a very successful bucking bull ranch in North Carolina. His wife can be seen behind the chutes at rodeos working with their bulls. Being paralyzed he can’t do anything and probably requires constant care. What a woman that would take on all of that. His name is Jerome Davis and there are numerous videos on UA-cam about him if you care to look it up. So the bottom line is sickness and health problems can occur at any age. It could result from a car accident and not in just dangerous sports.
This old lady says ABSOLUTELY NOT. I’ve spent quite enough of my life taking care of others, thank you very much. As for myself, I’ll take my chances. I wouldn’t marry to gain a caretaker any more than I’d marry for money.

Her body had swollen up and had bursted. The decomposition was so bad they never did get the smell out of that house. They finally tore it down. I say if you’ve got the looks and sex appeal hook a man and marry him. Anything is better than dying alone and they don’t find your body for days. Had a cousin that lived alone. He live out in the country and they found him dead at 64 years old in back of his house. Animals had gotten to him and ate his face and fingers off. The old saying is you marry 3 times. Don't underestimate elderly English women. My grandmother was 89 years old in a wheelchair due to polio, and we got a call from the nursing home saying they called the cops on her for punching a guy. So we get there and there's grandma in her little shawl looking so sweet with the cops next to her wheelchair. I asked her what happened and she goes "well I've told him before not to touch me, but everytime he rolls passed me he whacks my arm. So I warned him if you touch me again I'm going to punch you in your face. And I did." They might look sweet and innocent but that's just because they're good at hiding.

Definitely makes me wonder how she was treating this man while he was alive, and she was "caring" for him. If this much... resentment, had built up, I find it hard to believe it all came out at once in this single moment. Nah, my guts telling me this man probably had a rough last couple of years of his life, and it wasn't entirely due to his illnesses. @nimbleneedle Exactly! I was shocked when they went with that sort of charge! She demonstrated quite well her brain was working at a lot better capacity than some others I've seen charged with just flat out premeditated murder. Diminished capacity my ass! And it was her own family that got her caught. To me, I think that definitely speaks to something with what type of mother/person she might have been. It always turns my stomach when people are treated differently in the court system, be it because of their looks, sex, and in this case age, when they've committed the exact same crimes as others have, that have got way more harsher sentences. She's a cold blooded killer, little granny facade or not.

I think the fact that she purposely tried to frame 2 innocent people puts down all claims of depression and exhaustion. A young guy would have been SLAMMED with 20 or so year in England, from what I've seen of their justice system. And that would be a light sentence for murdering a sick old man.

Why was an 81 year old woman caretaking a disabled old man?! That is a huge job for even a young person! His children should have hired a caretaker to come in for that job. I put a lot of blàme on his son, who did not even observe that she was overwhelmed!
That was a ridiculously lenient sentence for such an horrendous crime. Age doesn't make any difference. She was a selfish, cold, calculating person who, regardless of mitigating stress, deserved a lot harder sentence.
I thought common police knowledge is that when a murder has been committed the partner or spouse are suspect number one. When single, it's their child/children or other family members. The age of the possible suspect shouldn't be a way to gauge if that theory an option or not. Also the clear giveaway is, why is she still alive when a. the burglar doesn't want to leave witnesses(in the first portrayal the police gave of the murder) and b. when a burglar/murderer kills a bedridden, obviously no threat posing person but doesn't touch a healthy 81 year old woman who is perfectly mobile and is of good physical strength despite her age. An competent police officer or even an avid crime detective lover could have easily solved the case that very saturday morning when Eric was murdered.

Personally I would have liked Audrey Hingston placed into a 24/7 lockup facility for elderly people who have dementia/alzheimers disease, or have committed a serious crime such as murder, etc. That way justice would have been served correctly.
Did the children pool together money to get the elderly man into a nursing home? or get a home nurse? I find it hard to believe they expected a 80+ year old woman to be a full time carer for her elderly husband? As a nurse, I know how exhausting caring for others can be let alone for a 81 year old woman. However, her actions were heinous. She needed to ask for help. RIP sweet man.

Throwing those two men under the bus gets to me. I wonder how she came about that those were the two she would blame. Thank God they went to the police, had they left the area, they would have been in jail for sure.

Anyone in their 80s, or far younger for that matter, is as likely to attempt and/or succeed at such a merciless killing of a “loved one”, delighted/“grateful” to the injustice of “depression” as an “excuse” to get off far more easily than their victim, if precedents are set being “depressed” is an excuse for murder. It’s not enough that a killer is considered a “low threat risk”. Audrey’s victim got no justice without a longer sentence.
I wouldn’t want you on a jury. You haven’t a clue what she may have endured. Perhaps she was evil or perhaps she was mentally unstable. We don’t know so we shouldn’t judge.
She knew exactly what she was doing. She planned it, executed it and covered it up. She continued to cover it up by giving detailed descriptions of two innocent men as the intruders. She had ZERO diminished capacity; she was very capable. What was her diminishment? Her depression? No, this killer got away with murder and probably slept just fine every night till the day she died, 12 years of freedom later. Terrible "justice."
I'd understand wanting a way out if your relatively young or middle-aged spouse became permanently bed-ridden and in need of constant care. Obviously, it wouldn't be okay to kill your spouse because of that, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone for leaving. But when you're in your 80s... what did she expect? Was she hoping they'd be able to go skydiving and climb Mount Everest?

Whenever I see these press conferences I can always tell if someone is guilty because they don’t look up toward the crowd, they look down and they keep looking down and it just becomes obvious that they’re hiding something.
I understand the severity of the crime, but it has me wondering what sort of financial situation, and what kind of medical and mental supports are available to people in their situation? Maybe, at her advanced age and diminished physical ability, maybe she just couldn’t physically take care of the man, but didn’t have any support system to help her. She may have seen it as the only way to take the burden off of herself. Yes, it is unbelievably wrong, but what if she just couldn’t physically do it anymore, and she couldn’t afford to place him in a facility that could take care of him, where she couldn’t? She was a tiny, frail, woman trying to care for a man who was clearly unable to care for himself. Maybe there was a systemic problem here. It is something worth examining, the whole thing is very sad.

When the heat is on her, she "attempted" suicide and lied about her husband committing suicide. Diminished? More like a monster in an old lady's clothing. She could have just divorced him if she couldn't handle the "for worse" part of the marriage vows. And I don't understand why everything was so rushed and why his family was not informed of the real situation before she was sentenced. It's sickening. I wonder how her first husband died?

Wow. I am providing in home care for one terminally ill Mother and an elderly Uncle with serious health problems of his own. It is round the clock and exhausting. Four years today.I work hard to cultivate the inner strength and outside support systems required. Caregiving is no joke. Sad story.

I believe from the video that he had COPD along with other problems. So she did not cause his health problems but she was not prepared to help him with them either.
