"Roberts lounge is one of those places you wouldn't want to be caught dead in, though for the guys who hang out here being caught dead is an occupational hazard.." Lol
This was mentioned in the movie Goodfellas. The Mafia ripped off the Lufthansa cargo terminal at JFK Airport in 1978. Marty Krugman was killed, being he hounded Jimmy for his Lufthansa money. All the guys went out and bought cars such as Cadillacs and Lincolns. The cash disappeared by going to swanky restaurants, vacations, cars, clothing, houses, etc. The cash was untraceable.
It was like he had two families. The first time I was introduced to all of them at once, it was crazy. Paulie and his brothers had lots of sons and nephews. And almost all of them were named Peter or Paul. It was unbelievable. There must have been two dozen Peters and Pauls at the wedding. Plus, they were all married to girls named Marie.
There's one detail missing, and that's Henry Hill telling Jimmy Burke about the tip. Jimmy Burke hated Krugman, he always thought he was suspicious and kept shortchanging him, he probably refused to listen to Krugman until Henry came down and told him about the plan. I understand it's pretty unrelated to the purpose of this episode but the crimes that put Burke away for the remainder of his life was the Boston College point shaving scandal which he did with Henry Hill, and his only official link to Lufthansa was the murder of Richard Eaton. Eaton was tortured, killed and hanged in a meat truck after he skimmed some money of the heist while it was being laundered. The money has never been found.
Stacks was always crazy. Instead of getting rid of the truck like he was supposed to, he got stoned, went to his girlfriend's and by the time he woke up, the cops had found the truck. It was all over the television. They even said they came up with prints off the wheel. It was just a matter of tine before they got to Stacks.

I would've expected them to get more as well. Though keep in mind this happened in 1978, where 50k equals about 200k today. They could've lived happily for quite a while. I still wouldn't have done it for only 50k though.

You're saying that because the video says the gangsters didn't know how much they took. However, the feds could've told the truth. Lying or overestimating would've made them look bad.

this robbery occurred in 1978, so security cameras were much less common back at that time. Also, this was not a bank or armored car facility. It was an air cargo warehouse facility that was used to transfer shipments/goods, and items were not held for long periods. it was currency that was being transported transferred from overseas that was spent my US military stationed in Germany, so it wasn't held for a long period. That is why having inside knowledge was needed of when the cash was coming in.

Who was the Jewish dude on Goodfellas who kept nagging Jimmy for his share of the money, so they shot him and his wife in the car? If someone kept nagging anybody like that, any of us would do the same thing!!
In addition to the Lufthansa heist, Jimmy Burke's crew had already been jacking one or two trucks every day coming out of JFK airport but that wasn't enough for Burke, still needed that one big score which ended up bringing them all down. One theory is that Burke buried one million dollars on his own property as a nest egg in case he got pinched for the heist! Anyone feel like digging? LOL
If you watched Goodfellas, you'd know that the money went out as fast as it came in. That's why they were always looking for the next big score. Lavish lifestyles that outpaced their legitimate incomes, and always ducking the cops who were forever on their tails (lawyers and bribes).
@@joelellis7035 Burke's biggest mistake might have been giving his crew their cut from the Lufthansa heist right before Christmas, expecting them to sit on the money for a couple of months until everything blew over!

Actually, it was more than 3X the average annual income in 1978. Not bad for a foot soldier
Based on the stupidity that got them caught, they weren't even worth 50k. Dummy had one job to do and couldn't even do that right.
