Just got home from sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago and HAD to immediately sit down and watch this episode. I absolutely love how clean and well organized their store is, and the shelves are FILLED with old school goodness. Where do these amazing shops come from??? This was one of your best episodes yet, and that's saying a lot. Simply stunning.
I would lose my mind in that shop, and walk out with no money...That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Makes me want to drive from WI to Texas tomorrow and see if it's still there. SO cool, I'm definitely watching more of your videos!
Dude, this was such a cool video. I remember going to tackle shops as a kid with my Dad and seeing all these things and wanting them all. He usually said no "you'll just put the damn thing in a tree," but sometimes, sometimes, he said yes I was soooo happy. He's gettin' up there now and I'm taking my little boys fishing, so he gave me our old tackle box. To my astonishment some of those lures were still in there. They needed new hardware, so I got rid of all the rusty stuff, and now my boys are fishin' em. Right in the feels man, right in the feels.
I'm so glad I stumbled on this video! That clear near nuthin minnow (11:42) is a lure I've wondered about for a long time. I got one out of my dad's tackle box years and years ago. I've never seen another one and never knew what it was. Thanks for the info!
This store was literally gold, oh man I want to go. I love and miss Texas and that store is calling my name. Might need to do a Texas road trip. These baits take me back.
13:48 I found one of these at my lake and didn’t care it was all white and crushed and crusty no idea that a classic brand made those baits I wish I still had It.
Man ,what a great episode and store find. This is one of the best finds I’ve seen you make.Almost everything in there marked $3.79 is a $20 bait nowadays.
Small bait and tackle shops are the best...was so disappointed when I found out a couple weeks ago the shop I went to as a kid is closed now....prolly still has a treasure of lures in there...also love when you involve the shop owners/collectors you visit
I checked on google to see exactly where the shop is, and it said the store is temporarily closed, wondering if he was able to sell almost everything after your episode.
Great video! Love walk thrus like this! Quick and priced. I understand what he said about the pegs and such. That's why I keep them in tackle boxes! 🤣 Keep on finding them scores and enticing them lure junkies, like myself! Oh and message sent!😬(wanting some lures I seen)🎣🤠
This episode is a brain melter. Love knowing these mom and pop tackle shops still exist !!! Chris, when you pick up these old hardbaits and you fish them, do you change out the hooks ? Or do you run them straight out of the package ? Keep it Retro !
Great question! If they have the old school hook harness, I tend to leave them in place. But if there’s a split ring, I usually can’t resist swapping out the old cheapo hooks.
I still have alot of those lures you just showed. Since it's too cold to even go ice fishing today, I think I'll get out the old tackle and and do some retro bassin of my own.
Flooding the market with too many items is terrible for a business but I think it is the opposite with fishing lures ,at least for the customer anyways...
That’s a nice selection of pre pradco Normans with several tournament gel coat colors in the dated blue packages which are even older than the red ones.
@RetroBassin bruh. Now you're really running down memory lane. Eveytime you said the price and laughed I imaged you saying, "I'm about to empty these pegs. " Lol. Love your content man.
@@RetroBassin I don't know what it was about Rebel lures. I've been using them and Rapalas for years, and Rapalas work great, but Rebels always seemed to work just a little bit better.
great video, amazing place, I still have and use some of lures shown here some are so old and beaten up I've retired them and hung up in my tackle room :D
Thank goodness it's to far from Ontario, I couldn't control myself in there, it was bad enough when Walmart bought Woolco and sold off the old fishing stuff, I was out of control. Great video as always.
Unfortunately this video is mostly likely going to attract the non fisherman that's going to buy all these lures out and post them for outrageous prices on ebay.
$50 on that Rebel Fastrac on Ebay? Don't think so but still an older bait. Some of the difficult super rare Rebels may bring that much but that is not one. Rebel cool though.
I drive past this place everytime I go to Medina. What gold!!! I have never stopped before because it looks like private property. Where do you park with a boat and what are the hours?
yall are lucky I dont live in Texas cause id buy almost everything lmao this is a legendary shop and the prices are amazing I really respect him for keeping the prices the same from when they came out most tackle shops would up the price. That whole berkley frenzy section would be gone hahah.
I fished the Flat Broke all the time for Smallmouth in Chartreuse Blue Back here in East Tennessee . It's a hybrid between a brokeback swimbait and a square bill .
@@RetroBassin The best part of the bait is it's action !!! It suspends !!! You can crank it down 3-4 ft and kill it ... It will set there with the SLOWEST rise - nose down . I then twitch it and it turns 180°and looks behind itself like a Glide bait . Super sick plug !!!
I have 4 hand made Darting R crank baits made by Ron Rippinger back in the 80's They are the best cranks I have ever had and still catch fish on them .
You have a knack for finding those old school gold mines. I’d sure like to find a tackle shop full of OSG like this, although I wouldn’t like my checking account balance afterwards. BTW, I sent you an IM on FB Messenger last week.
Is awesome that you shout out all those locally owned tackle shops but is sad that some people will clear up those lures for resale on eBay at a way higher price
The store I worked at tried for years to stock all the SKUs that Storm cataloged. Every color of Wiggle Warts and Hot-N-Tots. Unfortunately the less popular baits got marked down and cleared out instead of gathering dust. His comment about empty pegs sounded just like the owner of our store.
The only thing I liked from the Berkeley Frenzy line up was their slightly shorter 4-1/2" maybe 5" Zara, good mid-ish size, I liked it was just as fat and backed up well. They got goofy on that whole Mystic/Zone minnow or shad line up, nice looking finish, but it was a thick plated finish that chipped clean off down to the hard bone colored body. They were good for repainting then. I got a bunch. That leap in finish technology jumped the shark at conception, it was short lived. A fanciful thick facade of a form which failed the function test. Rebel tried that finish too, I just shucked a Fastràc all the way down to bone after the initial big flake chipping started. They all go bad to the bone.
@@RetroBassin You could paint them back up or just slap some eyes on them and clear coat, one common mfger offered pattern is usually a straight white/bone color. I just holographic scale reconstituted a Rebel FasTrac, I wish I could show it here. That Heddon Tiny Torpedo you were drooling over in one episode had that 'Chipper' G-Finish too. That whole line up of late 90's Rebel Mystic Zone minnow series had the temporary finish. I don't know if those old school skirts with one-direction skirting and a built-in stretchy collar are strictly 'Living Rubber skirts' (Lunker Lure Buzz baits, Arbogast lures too) it was more like a thin cut flat vynal of some sort which degrades over time, sometimes reacting with other plastics, especially surgical tubing like collars of other skirts.
Okay….how much did you spend? 😄 I already have some of that Bomber and Excalibur stuff but would love to have more, even though most of it would never get wet. I was going to get the car warmed up in case you walked by a rack of OG Storm Wiggle Warts.

There’s a few old gold mines left in the Lone Star State!
Not only was it a great store, but I want to hear more from Jim! I'll bet he's got stories for days.
We’ll be back. What should we ask him???
Oh man seeing that you posted a video totally just made my day.

The flat brokes might be one of the last pre-pradco baits Norman made-Came out around 2010-13 not old
