    Oh, and one more thing. There is a fairly common issue regarding the rifle firing when you close it. It happened to me and was one of the freakiest things ever. It turns out the firing pin needs to be cleaned very, very well all the time or it gets stuck in the extended position. When closed…BOOM! When I looked into it there were several people on the internet who had this happen. BYW, I keep my guns pretty clean. I had no idea that the firing pin had an issue like this.

    Coming from decades of traditional smokepoles (I began with a kit CVA Kentucky .45) I assumed cleaning my new Optima would be easier. Not so. Takes about twice as long. Also a feller could just about get the gun as a freebie for purchasing all the cleaning supplies. I'm sure it's all dandy, but jeez! And you can not fail to clean that firing pin. Gotta do that. I use the old fashioned stuff less the water bath and the gun comes out clean enough. Having said all that would I go back to traditional? Nope. Woulda been lucky to hit the backstop at 100 yards with my old guns. This thing is scary accurate out the wazoo at greater distances than the Alabama woods usually allow. And with the shotgun primer Pyrodex actually works in the field! No snaps. Can't recommend this weapon highly enough. Great video CVA Official. Much needed for beginners. And a great refresher for old guys too. And PS...took guts to blow up that gun. This shows how serious CVA is about safety.
    Just one more thought: I had a brainstorm last year. I cleaned my breech plug with a fuzzy pipe cleaner stem (If you know nothing about smoking TOBACCO pipes look it up.). I wouldn't recommend that.

    Great video for those new to this excellent rifle and pistol. I love Blackhorn 209. I've shot over 30 rounds without any fouling or loos of accuracy. The White Hot pellets really suck. Two shots and you're cleaning. Also, I hate Sabots. The Power Belts are THE only way to go.

    Just bought mine Saturday. Got everything I could find. However the hunt for primers is on. Might remove the primers out of some shot shells I have if I can't buy any.

    Why didn't you use the ram rod equipped with the gun? That's why I watched this video. I don't understand it. It comes with a palm saver but on the wrong end. You have to unscrew the rubber palm saver to use that end to laod the bullet.

    I an optima 50 cal. from a friend that looks just like the one in the video and when he showed me how to load it he said to put the round looking cotton part in first, the pellet in next and then the shell. Is that the correct way because we fired it and I even shot it. Just haven't seen it loaded that way on UA-cam

    Just ordered my Optima V2, waiting for delivery! I definitely want to use the Blackhorn powder. should I purchase the Blackhorn breech plug, or is the one included sufficient? pros/cons of each? I've read some conflicting info that the one included will work with loose powder, but this video stated otherwise. Thanks!

    Just purchased a optima v2 and my firing pin doesn’t protrude out past the firing pin bushing when hammer is forward.. how come?

    • @bootht99
      @bootht99 2 роки тому +2

      It shouldnt protrude if the hammer is resting in the forward position. It SHOULD protrude if you keep the tigger pulled, and you push the hammer forward. This is normal with firearms, and allows you to safely uncock the hammer. When firing, the hammer moves forward so fast, that you're still holding the trigger back (which allows the hammer to go far enough forward it pushes the firing pin forward.

      Same issue - did you find a fix? I just purchased and had same issue. Scheels rep said it will fire just fine. I did the steps bootht99 below suggests, also cleaned it and same issue.

    • @samscola585
      @samscola585 2 роки тому

      Yes bootht99 is right, if you push on hammer you will see that it does come more forward and that’s what it will do when fired

    What sling are people using for this? I bought a Quake sling and the quick detach swivel will not come close to fitting over the molded sling studs in the stock.

    • @rogerxxxxxxx
      @rogerxxxxxxx 8 місяців тому

      The Quake slings look nice with lots of features, but for me, easily break. So I purchased a couple of the real Amish leather slings along with Uncle Mike's snap releasable swivels. Amish slings are extremely dependable, but with added weight of a large mass of leather. If only target shooting, probably could get by with the Quake slings, but for hunting and slinging the rifle around in public, definitely go with a more well made product, such as the real Amish leather slings.

    Is there a manual available.
    Do you have any videos on the care, charging and firing it? If not would you make one and post it on your channel.
    My sincere thanks for your time and consideration

    I’ve never owned a muzzleloader before is the recoil bad especially for beginners in muzzleloaders ? What is the best black powder to use for this? I’m actually starting to have an interest in muzzleloaders guns I’m not a hunter though
    If the recoil is very very strong what would be a good Choice for beginners with the least recoil but similar to this gun

    I’m not going to buy a cva ever again. I can’t use mine anymore since I can’t use it with a scope. The hammer spur extension somehow fell off. It is a weird left-handed screw in pin. They don’t have replacement parts and they have said that they have no plans ever to make more. I have no idea why the stupid thing had a left-hand thread but it pretty much make it impossible to replace.
