He almost included all luxury cars except Lexus and Aura. I think he recommends not to buy a luxury car if these for long term (more than 5 years) and I agree with him on that. We all know that owning a luxury car with expired warranty is very risky.

well, luxury cars have big write offs in the first few years... not 4 but 5 figures annually. so it is even worse to buy a new one, in my opinion

I sold mine in 4 months. Literally so many issues to speak of. Especially, infotainment, door quality, sound coming out of doors and list goes on to top it up with the worst service experience at Jaguar of Raleigh. Stay away from F-pace.

I live in Australia and over the years have bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee ( transmission failed at 50,000 km), a BMW 7 series (almost everything failed and I spent $20,000 to get it back on the road and sold it for $10,000) , a Volvo XC70 (transmission and drive train failed and basically gave the vehicly away). You would think that I was hard on my cars but all were regularly serviced and no off road. I finally gave up and now own a base model GM family sedan. It has cost nothing in repairs in 5 years and looks like it will run for lots more years. Zero status but a lot more fun.
X5! How? Bulletproof inline 6 engine. Bulletproof ZF8 transmission and I can further prove that with 3 of my friends having it with high mileage and more than 7 years old. Simply do your research and you’ll find BMWs with inline 6 engines are one of the best cars to own. No wonder Toyota used it in their Supra. Powerful, fuel efficient, smooth, and very reliable.
Agreed! My dad owns a 2019 X5 and it’s still going strong to this day with no maintenance issue. He’s already had it for a couple years now.
I'll admit BMW's B58 inline 6 is proving to be more reliable than the previous N54 and N55 built between 2007-2015. Those engines were certainly problematic in many ways. The B58 is still too new to make a clear verdict, but based on BMW's past reputation, I don't have high hopes. It is certainly safer than the X5 M50i with the V8 engine which is a horribly unreliable money pit (and the focus engine of this video).

In the most recent ranking from consumer report, BMW ranks 3rd in satisfsction rating and 5th in reliablity, higher than Lexus. We are all entitled to our own opinion, but please dont mislead the people by posting videos that doesnt even show one proof or stat to back up your list.

Had my Range for 14 years now, and another for 6 years prior. Both were purchased second hand. I welcome any bad press that will knock down second hand values before I purchase my next.

I'm particularly surprised and disappointed by the lack of reliability of both Jaguar and Land Rover. I thought the change of ownership from Ford to Tata would have done some good, but apparently it has not helped at all.

I’ve owned my Mercedes for 6 years and the only maintenance required since ownership has been new tires once and routine oil change. I think they are very reliable cars.

@@FF-xl7yw For the best value for money, get a Toyota or Hyundai. The lexus's powertrain is lagging behind, their chassis tech is poor so its weight is much more than other luxury brands. The dashboard technologiy is outdated by a decade. Lexus is synonym of the budget luxury. :)
I have been driving my Volvo XC90 with no issues for 10+ years unless they messed up after 2015, gas mileage out ranks most SUVs. Reliable as ever and still going.
I have a 2017 XC90 my only grip is for repairs it’s always ridiculously expensive. Engine coolant hose had a leak n hose $135 for hose labor 4 hours labor $900. A/C hose had leak also $800 job. Other than that it works plan on keeping it.

I didnt think it would be long before BMW's were bashed. In Europe most BMWs are diesel and made in Germany they dont have this reputation for trashing themselves. I have had e36 e90 F31 and now an X3 G01 and the worst problem I have ever had was a sticky EGR valve. But I have to say Land Rover have a bad reputation in the UK also for poor reliability.
I’m surprised to see my Volvo XC90 on the same page as bmws, Maseratis, jaguar etc. I bought mine because it’s a big heavy vehicle that feels safe. I couldn’t care less about luxury appearance or status. I simply want to feel safe. I’ve had Volvos for many years and it’s a solid choice for reliability and performance.
I have been driving Range-rovers for 20 odd years both the sport and the Vogue and have never had a single issue with one of them , I use them in both urban and country environments, it is somewhat annoying to listen to people rubbish them as they are fabulous cars, they drive amazingly, the interior is right up there , they hold their values brilliantly and the performance is excellent.
I actually think they are cheap for what you get and am absolutely smitten

I had 2 X5s and never experienced any issues just for your records. I had 2005 x5 4.4 8 cylinder and 2019 4.0 v6. Great cars!
My friend has 2021 BMW X5 and It has been in dealer for 3 times to fix.
I drove a 2003 Yukon for 16 years with only one repair. We still drive our 2004 Mazda six. Both basic vehicles and reliable.
16 years is really long time. Meantime I have changed a dozen of cars from Toyota to BMW, Porsche brand. The life is short and I don’t want to stick to one or two car for a quarter of my driving lifestyle.
The Yukons after 2006 became overpriced junk mobiles.
I haven’t trusted Consumer Reports in years and when someone cites them I take it with a grain of salt.

How about an American Mechanic (Scotty Kilmer) who has been fixing car before i was born? may be you should watch his Chanel. He docent recommend anything other than Toyota, Lexus, Acura and Mazda.

For SUV, I will follow to his advice, stick to Acura or Lexus. But for sedan, since this type of vehicle is more fun to drive, I love to get BMW 5 series or Audi A6.
As an owner of a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus bought new in 2019, I have yet to have any problems with my vehicle. However, I moved to another province, and both Lincoln Dealers i've visited are nothing like the dealership where I bought my vehicle. As I will be purchasing a new vehicle this fall, as much as I love my Nautilus and was going to order the 2022 with the cool interior refresh, I am instead most likely moving to another vehicle brand because of those dealerships. Lexus, here I come.
Do your research. BMW was rated #3 in terms of reliability. The X5 new is 64k on average 3 year old ones are going for 55k. So they hold their value pretty well.

I was waiting to hear of the major components that failed or were recalled or the recommended years to buy any big lux SUVs. We know every car maker has quiet recalls, Toyota/Lexus too. But summarizing nearly every luxury brand without noting the trims of each vehicle that fare better in comparison to other luxury/non-lux vehicles and their trims is a misleading oversight.
Having consumers consider non-lux brands as a financial safe haven is a bag of tricks as well. Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and others have engine choices for their comparable suv models that will send customers in a mechanics loop.
You have summed almost all of the SUV brands.. I guess according to you we should all build one ourselves out of a cardboard box and attach wheels to it 🤣🤣🤣
As someone who worked for a Luxury car dealership, I will say that it's not exactly that these cars are built poorly, quite the opposite, the reliability problems come down to the fact that most are loaded with every conceivable gizmo and option (think things like air suspension, driving assist, advanced monitoring, etc.) That means there is simply FAR more things that can fail than your standard economy car. It is also assumed that somebody wealthy enough to drop $150k on a top end Mercedes will only keep five years maximum before they want the latest and greatest, so they simply don't care that all the high-end electronics will fail before the car is 10 years old. These cars simply aren't built for long term ownership like a Toyota Corolla or similar.

I have a 2018 X5 and it was been bulletproof. BMWs have gotten a very bad rap from people that never had one, but heard from someone that heard from someone that had. Bottom line is my current X5 has 49K miles on it and I got it after trading in my 2011 X5 that had 107K miles on it. Both zero issues, but maintenance is a must like any high tech machine.

I would disagree with the lIncoln brand as low reliability….our 2013 Navigator L is extremely reliable and has no squeaks or rattles even with 180,000 miles

The Aviator existed in the mid 2000's when the 3rd/4th gen Explorer was in production. It shared a lot of parts with the Explorer of the time (engine, body, transmission). But the Mercury Mountaineer (also a rebadged Explorer) and the Lincoln Navigator (a luxury Ford Expedition) were more popular.
The first gen aviator had the 4 valve 4.6 V8. 300 hp and 300 lb ft of torque. Premium was required

The BMW X5 has the B58 inline 6 cylinder engine, which is highly regarded as one of the best 6cyls on the market if not one of the best ever made, so much so that Toyota currently uses it in their Supra. Consumer Reports also gave the '22 X5 a rating of 90, quoting that it was "one of the best vehicles we've ever tested." The only higher vehicle rating given in '22 went to the Kia Telluride. And as an owner of a Hyundai-Kia product that has been found via class action lawsuit to literally EXPLODE, I can tell you to stay away.

It's about overall reliability. Of course, German deliverately fails with their reliability. Cuz they wanna sell reproduced plastics for hundres of dollars in regular basis. This is not a fair review, I have been driving BMW x5's from last 12 years, never had any reliability issues, moreover if you buy the extended warranty for 3k or so almost everything is covered by it. Please do your research before making statements

I bought xc90 2.5t 2006 model in 2005..still drives like new car 17 years 246k miles..I had problem once with fuel pump thats is because of my mistake..100% reliable..just on may 2022 I drove it to LA 2200 miles and return to Atlanta another 2200 miles ..plus 400 miles..in total 4800miles...even after 17 years...

The Escalade retains it values, i have a 2017 Escalade i owe only $13k, the vehicle values right now is over $45- $50k, right now if i sell it i will make over $30k inmy pocket.
I just got a BMW x5 with 20k miles, i got extended warranty 60 months for breaks pads, rotors, oil and transmissions chage, tune up, bumper to bumper warranty, free of charge with BMW financial.
that’s because the used car market is upside down right now..every used car is up 25 to 30 %..It will correct itself once the supply chain issues are resolved

Cars will last forever as long as you maintain and upkeep. Don't drive your car into the ground. The Fiat Abarth had horrible reviews but lasted me forever. Never gave me any issues and ran beautifully well over 100K miles. Drove it from LA to NY and back without one hiccup. It was a fantastic car. Miss it so much.
Well I don’t have anything to say for the new Volvo XC90 but we own 3 2006 XC90s and I wouldn’t even think about selling any of them. Mine has 260,000 miles on it and it drives and runs great and we have had very few problems with them.

Today’s Alfa Romeo has nothing in common with the ones from the past that had reliability issues. Ive owned two recently including the Stelvio and I recommend them highly. The Stelvio is one of the best handling and exciting to drive SUVs I have ever driven (20 years of owning SUVs). Alfa uses the new modular platforms from Stellantis/FCA so parts are cheaper and easier to find. Plus the build quality is excellent. Check out the Stelvio and Giulia and you’ll see they are excellent machines.
They really aren't. The Stelvio is a heap.

I am leaning towards getting the 2023 Stelvio Competizione model. They made some refinements to the snout and the interior.
I do not think that buyers of those luxury SUVs are watching UA-cam to see which Luxury SUV is crappy and which is not. They usually lease those vehicles and reliability is generally not bad on those Luxury SUVs in the initials years, especially when they are still under the warranty. Those becomes money pits when they are already bought by the 2nd or 3rd owner. I have friends/family members owning X5s, and the X5 is pretty reliable. Things go south after the SUV goes above 100,000 miles, even the ones with a diesel engine. My brother has one, he lives in Germany.
If Toyota and Honda know how to build reliable cars/engines, why don't these luxury European car makers?
@@olilumgbalu5653 Well, first off - the European car makers' engines are well more technologically advanced due to high emissions and fuel consumption standards. Europeans tend to use a lot of plastics and other lighter materials in their cars and engines, which ties to the fuel efficiency, and those parts do not last. Even Toyota's reliability went down since they have also been implementing new techs in their engines. On one hand, they are trying to increase efficiency, on the other hand cost of ownership goes up due to complexity, not proven longevity and reliability.
The second issue I want to point out is that the standard of quality is different between car makers. Also, I do not think it is that significant, but it matters where the car is build. A German build car tends to have a higher build quality than the one built in the United States or Mexico, and a car built in Japan has a better quality than the one built in Germany. But there are brands that make crappy cars in terms of reliability - VW, for example. Generally, many Mercedes models are really good in terms of reliability if you exclude the entertainment system. Toyota and Lexus, for example, use more older tech and design that is proven, but they also demand a higher build quality from their suppliers, which tends to make their cars last longer or being less problematic.
I do not think that some car manufacturers are building crappy cars in purpose so they can sell more cars. People tend to get tired overtime with owning the same car or they simply demand more tech and features, which makes them go and buy a new car every few years. With the prices going up, I do not know how many people will be able to afford doing that. I was replacing cars every 4 to 5 years. However, I wanted to keep my last car until the wheels fall off, but it was totaled after an accident. Yet, that car was my first car that I kept it for 7 years. Few cars, I believe 1 to 2%, go over 200,000 miles, so 98% of the cars end their useful life before 200,000 miles for various reasons, which is sad considering how important is to save the environment.

I like his quote, paraphrasing, "nothing is off-limits in expenses with a Range Rover". Gone are the days when they looked like a WWII Jeep and had a reputation for trekking across Africa. Nowadays probably a Toyota Hilux will give you better reliability in Africa I would imagine.

Monday, with 26,000 miles on it, it goes in for a new transfer case.
To Porsches credit, they extended the warranty and they are covering it.
That, and a flat tire, are the only problems I’ve had with it.
It is truly an amazing SUV……handling and performance are incredible.
Extremely comfortable on a road trip. ( it doesn’t have the most luggage capacity, however, there isn’t an SUV made I’d trade it for…..
Also going to go all in and put a new 911 Carrera in the garage next to it as soon as I can get an allocation.

With the BMW X5 there are a few things to consider as to the quality. Such variables are the engines. For options you can get the 8 cylinder, inline 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder. I would opt for the inline 6 cylinder. Then model of engine to consider such as the N53, N54, N55, B58 / B58TU or S63. My choice would be the B58 as it really had huge iprovements over those N series motors and I would not need something so powerul as the S63 and the single turbo charger is sufficient and being that heat issues were a problem. I love BMW but my wallet would be feeling abused for the most, but another option is get an older one without the turbo chargers but who knows how much maintenance from age would be needed.

Basically, avoid anything not made by a Japanese company.
The problem is most folks are paying car notes on cars aka you can't afford it, just to keep an image & then expect the world to shake because something goes bad. If you can't pay in full upfront, you can't afford it. Period.
Driving a 2016 X5 35i. The car's biggest problem is its chassis setting. Because BMW wants to sell the more sporty settings for higher price, its regular setting is terrible for driving. My SUV drives like a minivan, with a lot of wobble and roll. Another major issue with it is that the car leaks - engine, gearbox, differential, cooling water, these issues were solved 100 years ago in industry, but not BMW until today. Another issue is the air suspension, for which I changed 3 times already. Again can't understand why BMW has such a lot quality standard. The up coming issue is the control arms, which are already causing off balance and damaged 1 set of tire already. Current mileage at 87k. Don't have any comfort stepping into the car, which was my dream car, and now i have enough of this show car and show brand.
After a lifetime of German and Italian cars, 2 years ago I swapped to Japanese cars Toyota and Lexus should of done it years ago.
You are complaining about resale value which everyone knows decreases. This is a baggage that comes with every car. People spend on cars for fun. they are liabilities, not asset.
He doesn’t have any idea about luxury SUV. Specially on the comment about X5, it’s built well and doesn’t give you any issues. Just follow the maintenance which is comparable with other similar segment and it runs well.

Pretty poor and biased review. You are comparing past vehicle records to the current models. Most American / European car manufacturers have now improved their technologies and reliabilities over their competitors, can’t simply use Japanese vehicles “were” more reliable myth than the current European car brands for a video.

I had 2015 Kia Sportage for 5 years, not one single problem! Now i have Kia Stinger 2018 and still no problemski!
I bought new Kia Soul 2012 and 2 times stop engine on the hight way, 4 times tow bring to dealer KIA, they can not find what is wrong, so many stuff going wrong, I sold 15,000 miles because to much problems! The first KIA & last time.

Ford Edge Canadian made and many on the road with over 300k miles with few issues.
The Cadillac Escalade definitely should not be on this list , Ive owned six over the years drove them to 100k plus miles with minimal issues. Just take a look at high milage Escalades and see how expensive they still are. GM builds thousands more than any other brand on this list, sure a few clunkers come out of the factory just like any brand.

We dont have the Volvo XC90, but we have owned the XC60 T8 Inscription for 4 years now and we love it. Its a plug in hybrid and I mostly drive it around town in full electric mode and then hybrid when I have to get on the freeway. I use a lot less gas than I did with my pickup. Has been a perfectly reliable, comfortable car. The dude is talking about ratings and reputations, but doesnt present any solid data about any of these supposedly unreliable vehicles. Just "slam the lux suvs".
The real problem is we as people buy things we cannot afford. Luxury is meant for those that can afford it, not want it.

luxury SUVs depreciate so fast it’s literally like throwing away money. might as well find a used one off a lease for a third of MSRP

Infiniti is just Nissan garbage. Acura at least is a Honda brand, reliable.
It's funny how owners of these SUVs come in here and say, "I've never had any problems". Well someone had problems or it wouldn't make the list. Too many won't admit they made an error in choosing their autos. Most of these buyers but into the brand cache. They buy it for the badge and what others think about their cars.
Right and guess what? It's their money.

Kudos for providing this critical ie negative review. My personal experiences with the Lexus RX & the BMW X5 match your comments. Good alternatives to the 3 German brands, I believe are Porsche Macan & Cayenne and specific models like BMW X3.

I so far have owned two Mercede-Benz ML (which is now GLE). Never have any issue with them. First one was replaced with the second when it was 180,000 miles. The second one is still going and it's currently 120,000 miles. Both never give me trouble or major repair. I'll definitely buy a third one. I am also highly recommend it to consumers. I think he did not do his homework well.

I owned 2015 ml. Very minimally used since I work from home. Ended up getting totalled (rear ended) after 6 years at 28k by a knuckle head texting n driving While I was fully stopped at a red light. Had no complaints whatsoever while I owned it. 😞😞. Currently in the market n hooked to the aviator but with all the negative reviews not quite sure if it’s a good buy.
Bottom line is you only lease Euro branded vehicles

I am just reading the comments looking for JLR "FAN BOY'S" claiming their vehicles are as reliable/durable as Toyota/Lexus vehicles.
How they have driven theirs a million miles with only a occasional oil change and windshield washer fluid top up and haven't even had a bulb failure.

I own a X5 M50i it’s a fantastic suv! Zero issues but I leased it and will turn it in. Get it you’ll love it!
They are fine vehicles. I drive a BMW now but previously had many other non-german cars. I am only going to buy German cars going forward, they are that good.
maybe go the their forums and do a seearch (don't bother others before you do your own search and research). Read about the common problems and how well the mfg's handled those issues
