@@blitzofchaosgaming6737 most of these reactors are a JOKE and they are ALL getting paid by foriegn sponsors🤢 I know a UA-camr that did not want to bash Trump and she did not want to personally endorse a certain product (even though she agreed to have them advertise on her channel) and they tried to take her channel down🤢😡 Hefner and tank are smug lil idiots that bend over for evil foreign sponsors
I don’t know who’s getting paid and just faking it, but when a 30-40 year old “vocal coach” claims their video is the first time hearing an iconic classic rock band, my immediate reaction is, “Bovine scatology!”
I am so happy that I'm not the only person who noticed the shenanigans. Or before the first lyric is sung there are running across the room overly excited. 🙄
You get a lot of that stuff. Like now "first time seeing movie" reactions are popular, a lot of these are very famous movies that you really can't not have seen.
@@MxMoondoggie I can understand if you dabble in some movie reactions. Like I’ve never actually watched good fellas or tombstone but they all react to the same movies so that’s how you know it’s fake.
"Authenticity is key"...totally agree! So many times I have seen reactors claim it is the first time listening to a song, and yet they slip and start singing lyrics that they should not know, or anticipate something in the rhythm or beat that they should not be able to anticipate occurring.
Tbf i have seen some reactions where they like to pull up the lyrics as they listen. And ik people like that irl who will look up the lyrics the first time they listen. People value different things in music and there are a lot of people who put lyricism and poetry high on the list.
@@jleighwolfe True, but a lot of times it's just super obvious when somebody has heard a song already. I'm gonna be starting a channel soon and I'm purposefully gonna start with a lot of music that I already have heard and make it known that I've heard it already, but I still enjoy doing deep dives and commenting on music that I love. Like Alex said, I want people to come back for my personality and not necessarily just to listen to music. I spend way more time than I care to admit watching reactions and it's getting all too common where somebody clearly gets WAY too hype. It's like they try to use the NoLifeShaq method of standing up and acting so shocked by everything but they take it to a whole other extreme and it's annoying AF. I immediately notice that and never watch their channel again. Authenticity is key.
Oh there are definitely fake reactions out there, but it is pretty easy to anticipate rhythms and also lyrics often when listening to music for the first time, well it is for me anyway, but I’ve been writing music for over a decade so I guess you get a feel of music after a while
I spent my life listening to songs and imagining introducing other people to the same music and enjoying their experience vicariously. I can only imagine others have done the same.
Same but I have become jaded to a lot of reaction channels. It is weird that almost everyone is positive. You can listen to something outside of your wheel house and enjoy it but most the time there is a reason you don’t and that’s fine but just be honest.
I used to actively follow a lot of reactors, including tank, the charismatic voice, david heretic and many many others, now a keep subscription to most of then but only actively follow julia nilon and david heretic, and 2 o 3 others. They are the only two reactors that not once have i ever felt that any criticism they made is unfounded, evidently biased or just bs.
I was introduced to reaction videos from watching Alex. Watching him felt like those times showing my nonmetal friends metal music in the car, and their reactions were so much fun. His opinions about the music and lyrics, talking about what he felt from the song, understanding the emotions by it, showing appreciation and respect for it even though he wasn't a fan of the music (at the time) made me a fan of him. I respect outside observers that can show love for something they don't understand, were told was evil when they were growing up, but can see that it is not whatsoever
It's been great watching his evolution from hip hop to Metal. My favorite has to be watching him react to Down with the Sickness and watching the faces he makes 😂
It was fun seeing this little interview, I often watch Alex, he sometimes gets over excited watching videos, and can be really funny. Big love Tank bud
I'm late to the party but I have to say great conversation and I totally agree with Alex about why people stick with a specific reactor is totally down to the person presenting their views. As a Nightwish fan pretty much since they started, I found you through that big influx of reactions to Ghost Love Score that all seemed to come out around the same time. I love seeing people "discover" Nightwish for the first time (irrespective of which lead vocalist is singing) but I stayed (and joined your Discord/Patreon) because of YOUR opinions and insights into what you were listening to. I've got five or six reactors that I constantly follow and each of those is because of the unique information or insight the reactor is giving me on either a song I already know well or as an introduction to an artist I've never seen before. I spent 20 years as a journalist and we had a similar relationship with publicists and music labels, we never were paid to do reviews but if we wanted a "free" CD or album or tickets to a gig, it would be on condition of a review then being published and that's the symbiosis of the relationship.
Having seen the media story in question earlier, I will say DH is right on when he says reactions are a modern form of music journalism. They truly are similar to music reviews in magazines, except you actually get to see the reviewer's reaction to the music. All the journalistic ethical caveats apply.
@@TankTheTech You're really splitting hairs with this. Management works on behalf of the bands, and their respective labels, do they not? This is basically like throwing a fit because someone called a "cook" a "chef". The point is, he was offered a script to do a reaction for incentives. You were offered a script to do a reaction for incentives. Alex was offered monetization incentives for doing vidoes. And you all said no! I feel like you're all on the same page, on the same side, and this beef is about a minor terminology disagreement. You all seem like chill people, and this beef you have with him... it's just weird.
hey tank just tank just wanna say this, ive been watching david heretics channel since he was at around 1k subs, and he really is one of the most honest, and nice people on this platform that does reactions, im sure there were some bands that have asked him to say certain things about them and they would pay him, if he hates a song, he will tell you why, whether it takes 20 minutes or an hour lmao, if he loves it, he'll do the same thing, and holy crap does this man know his stuff, i dunno, i just wanted to put that out there, he really is a genuine guy and reactor, and reviewer
He may be. I don’t know the guy. I agree with a lot of what he said, but generalizing that all labels are sending out scripts and incentivizing reactors to say positive things are just bonkers, and doesn’t happen.
@@TankTheTech yea i found that hard to believe as well, but everything else he said was pretty truthful, he recently was about to do his first sponsorship deal, forgot what it was for, but the company lied to him after he already made the vid, so he backed out and told everyone
GTHIC Jewelry. And in my opinion, that's a miscommunication, not an outright lie, because literally the same thing happened to me and it wasn't that big of a deal. They apologized, I cleared it up with my viewers, and nobody took it that bad. I mean, if you go to check out and see the code didn't work on something that wasn't covered, don't buy it. It's that simple.
When did he say all labels? He said some has approached him, a bit like when promoter approached you. He most definitely didn't mean ALL labels, when all these labels. Also it doesn't look good when Alex thinks he's the shit when he has less then million subscribers. One of the biggest reactors is Nigel Ng aka Uncle Roger and not to forget NoLifeShaq. I find lately a trend of shitting on other channels, when there's a hug turd on your own doorstep.
Promotion-wise,I agree. Look at what Reactors have done to bands like Jinjer or Unleash The Archers. Or Orbit Culture. Or Spiritbox. Or Lorna Shore. Or Lovebites.I mean,I think that the entire reacting community /as well as us-viewers/ has managed to skyrocket popularity of these bands to Mount Everest. And I am sure it has been translating to album sales,to merchandise sales,to ticket sales.
Who?!? Mt Everest would include people like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Garth Brooks, Metallica, Britney Spears, and Taylor Swift. I have no clue who those bands are.
I didn’t catch this myself until someone else pointed it out, but this is why it’s so important to distinguish between what the interviewee is actually saying and what blanks are being filled by the reporter. The reporter said “labels,” while David only said “they all.” As he clarified in his conversation with Alan, the “they all” referred to some no-name indie labels, talent agencies, and management companies, not any major record labels. Sure, you could say David should have preemptively clarified this when he first shared the video, but honestly I can see how he might not have foreseen they way this would blow up. And it occurred to me that maybe the reason David got these requests when bigger channels didn’t is because of the fact that he frequently reacts to songs with audio only, whereas most reactions focus on videos, and the groups these agencies are pushing don’t have any high quality videos.
I really appreciated this video a lot. As a child of the 70's anything after 1995 gets a bit sketchy for me so I'm by no means up on everything that's out there after that year. But roughly 2 yrs. ago during the crisis I was watching the video doc "Thrashed" and soon after I was looking at random metal videos and Alex popped up. It was really a breath of fresh air tbh... And for me just the distraction I needed at the time. I have however kept watching. Your channel I got hip to roughly a year ago and I dig the behind the scenes outlook as well as the viewpoint from both a roadie as well as a fan. What you guys do keeps me going personally. I deal with PTSD and for that 10 or 15 mns. your videos run I get that moment of not sitting in my head. Thank you both for that. 👍🤘
I think the best Reactors are 1) The Wyldeside with Eric Clark, 2) David Heretic, 3) The Voice Love Co. BUT it is my opinion only, I also follow like over 160 Reactors more or less depending on what music they react on. Tank and Alex are on that list also, so hats off to all the Reactors for their work and devotion to Music!
"Hello i'm a filmstudent and Now i will react to all the movies everybody has seen for the First time" "Hello i now listen tk all the Songs everybody has heard a Million times for the First Time" I dont believe any of them :D
This was such an awesome conversation. As a newbie to the game it was also very informational and eye opening. It is nice to know the problems I encounter is what you guys go through as well!
@@TankTheTech - Hey man, that was a really excellent video, I enjoyed watching it, especially since recently I have been enjoying a lot of movie reaction channels - Alex Hefner being one of my new top favorites (I also enjoy JUST TRUST ASH, White Noise Reacts & Mary Cherry to name a few), and so it was truly interesting to see him being interviewed almost by you, on his thoughts and views, as this was a side of him that was new, I had never seen him other than reacting to movies. Anyways, if you would like to see a perfect example of a music reactor being genuinely moved by experiencing new music, I literally just watched one just before I saw this video of yours, so I thought perhaps you might appreciate I share it with you, and since posting links often doesn't work in comments, I'll just put the copy/pasted video title here for you to throw into the search - of course, if you have already seen it, then phooey, all this typing for no reason, lol. TL;DR - Great video, Alex Hefner is great, I found a video you might like - and thank you for quality content :) Video title below :: " Rapper Reacts to Metallica FOR THE FIRST TIME!! | MASTER OF PUPPETS "
I agree. DH's delivery is not the smoothest but he does know a lot about music and he often notices things that other reactors miss. He sure doesn't seem like he's only interested in likes so I would be surprised if he was lying about money.
What I enjoy the most from reaction videos is the "innocence" factor of the reactors. First there are the "old" songs I listened to when I was young. It is fun to see the appreciation and the amazement I once felt in those days. In one way I can "re-experience" the works through the reactor's eyes and heart which also serves the sense of nostalgia. Then there are the "technical" reactors who brings up their technical views on it. (some of them having played in metal bands themselves, some others are vocal coaches, others are working within a studio as producer) Sometimes they are pointing to musical details never noticed by myself for a decade or longer.
@@CharlieChinchillaTV no it’s more like false advertising saying you’ve never heard a song when you for sure have. I love the reactions where they listen to thunderstruck by AC/DC and say they’ve never heard it before but they have a bunch of sports memorabilia in the back ground…really your a sports fan but you’ve never heard one of the most over played sports hype songs of all time? GTFOH
This was great, thanks for sharing. Alex had been one of my fave Reactors for some time now, and I’m new to your channel but enjoying it, so it’s an interesting crossover for me. Now I’m waiting for another seemingly random crossover like, I dunno, … Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice and … Smokey & Hollywood6 from Trash Talkers (now *that* would be interesting)
Due to Mr Rock n Roll i was introduced to Nightwish (Ghost Love Score) back in 2019 and down the rabbit hole, I went. I believe Floor is the greatest female vocalist I've ever heard. I have downloaded most of their albums/songs from apple. That singular reaction has led me to Alex, Tank, the Charismatic Voice, and many others which have led me to sooooooo many different bands that aren't mainstream in the U.S. For instance Sabaton, Amaranthe, Unleash the Archers, and Aryeon. Reactors have a major place in the industry just don't sell out ( hate just for views or pretend like for the same). That being said there are reactors that review songs that I know very well and if they are legitament (you can tell if its fake) I enjoy the sheer action/enjoyment of new music.
Would be interesting to hear David Heretic on this to understand what he meant by those comments exactly. You also have to take into account that we only got to see those snippets of the interview with him that they decided to put in the segment. Maybe he elaborated on what he meant by scripts and so on.
I mean, I kind of eluded to that when we were talking about it. That could have been a 15 minute conversation that we only saw 45 seconds of. But still, in my experience, scrips and payment are not just being handed out by labels.
@@TankTheTech I'm not here to defend David or anything but he is a musician so that might have something to do with the fact he has that kind of contact with the labels. He knows what he's talking about so they might value his reactions higher than some others because of that, regardless of the amount of subs. Of course you also know a lot about the music industry so it sounds definitely weird that you were not offered the same.
Well, I believe David can and will defend himself. I just don't think he'd go on a newscast and say something if he didn't have proof to back it up. If he did, well then he'll lose a bunch of subs me included.
When I first started watching reaction videos I subscribed to probably a dozen or more reactors. I started weeding out reactors that didn't help me understand the music better. I wanted technical break downs, analysis, on-point commentary. Tank and David Heretic are two of the reactors that made the cut for me. I trust both of them to give me good, honest, and educational reactions. And absolutely, the personality of the reactor is important. I believe that David is an ethical and honest reactor and I would take that Fox clip with a grain of salt. I don't believe he is trying to show that he isn't a sellout by not taking money for reactions. I recommend you take a look and some of his reactions. I don't watch his Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers but love his Baby Metal, Lovebites, Band Maid, and Nightwish reactions.
I’d like to thank both of you, the charismatic voice, and several other reactors. Without y’all, I would never heave found: Lorna Shore Electric Callboy Sabaton Jonathan Young Jinjer Slaughter to prevail Whitechapel Voiceplay Ayreon Epica Large portions of things Nightwish did Nanowar of steel Dimash Voiceplay Eluveitie Alestorm And many others. Y’all are the best, and thank you so much!
Thank goodness I don't pay for reactions. It's the one thing that bothers me, that 'reacting' has been exploited into a revenue generating business so now most reactors won't react unless you pay for it. Loses the authenticity of just doing reactions to be exposed to new music genres, etc. Oh well.
I feel sorry for Alex. To be isolated by his family growing up and kept hermetically sealed from all cultural reference points so that, once released, he could react to all these songs and movies that everyone has seen, must have been something of a burden. It is good to see that he is now catching up - for example, only recently seeing and reacting to, Saving Private Ryan. Great stuff!
Personally, i think reactors have the potential to expose a band to a new audience and that exposure will lead to new fans. That brings value, and in the age of analytics, that line of thinking can be proven or disproven by the data. Also, because a reactor may create value to a company, that doesn't necessarily mean the company will or should compensate the reactor.
you should check DarkViperAU videos on react content. He has several of those throughout his youtube career. But recent ones are... Mwah... Cheff kiss. Although these two react to musical videos. Which are different and can, in fact, serve as advertisment for the musical groups. So many problems of reactor do not apply to them. Even if they do, in fact, hurt the youtube profit of musical bands they react to - they may profit them in people, who goes out and buys their songs on.. spotify? I dunno how it works, dont use musical services
I watch David, as I've watched Tank and Alex. Like all of you he brings a different perspective. I have no reason to doubt his claims, but again.. we don't really know. He's stated he was/is a bassist and former touring band, and seems to have some knowledge there. I'm sure he'll have some type of reply. Ultimately I don't really know any of you, you could be real, you could be fake, you could be somewhere in between. I stopped watching Alex because it was SO over the top that it wasn't believable. I'm glad he realized this and I may give him another look. FWIW I think David is decent, maybe you should get him on and ask him directly.
He's gone heavily into rightwing political reactions, don't bother. I unsubbed in the past year, dividing his audience and you can tell the comments have become increasingly righties or pro-righties who are calling out lefties as if they're terrible and have terrible views and attacking other Hefner fans when they talk about the downward direction of his channel. It's become closer to a Fox News comment section... say anything leftie, ad you get jumped on and insulted. He's embraced this, and that's why he's lost my subscription and kinda my faith for him. A good reactor doesn't do this. Because 1/2 the country is right and 1/2 left... you're inviting one side to bully the other in your comments especially by taking such a hard right reaction requests. Of course your audience loves it! Because they're bullying away those who don't or who don't agree instead of being civil and dividing your audience. By bringing that in, good luck trying to post reactions of some lefty stuff in the future, or realize your fanbase has turned hateful or a very different direction. All you'll get is righty type requests on those videos, and your audience will be very one-sided. And because he's let that happen as of now, he's bringing that purging and eventual degradation/lack of variety and mixed views into his channel audience. He's attracted the hateful people on the right who eat these reactions up, and many of his lefty or maybe even centrist fans get ostracized in the comments. Dumb move, dumber content. His reactions are starting to match his true beliefs I assume and his positive attitude doesn't match negative beliefs of the right... he's gonna have to fully embrace it eventually and if he doesn't want to it's gonna take a good amount of time to get people who aren't like who he's attracting now back into his audience, if it ever heads back to how it was. People in the comments keep talking about how brave he was for posting these, and how bad the left is, and you'll see left hate comments... it's nothing to do with exposing new ideas and now turning into taking a side and your audience has already been on that side but just got attracted to you... the righties are in his comments and you can see they only like it because they agree with it... they act as if it's right and the left is horrible and anyone in the comments complaining is overreacting and lefty. This is the atmosphere being created. It's nothing to do with positivity, kindness, and inclusion, especially on the pro-trump right/far right. This is not what I imagine his channel message means, but it's screwing it up the more he posts these. This can of worms is here, and now the arguments and eventual takeover of right fans is gonna take the stage and now's the time to stop it, balance it, or remove and stop all political reactions... before it's really hard to reverse the type of fans garnered and brought out from within your community by these reactions.
Hmm, if true.. not good. Have you views, just be respectful of everyone else. Better yet, leave the politics out of it. If I want to hear people argue their belief, there's much better forums than a youtube reaction channel. Disappointing if true.
@@jkopacetick it's apparently now become cool to suck Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson's dicks on YT. Because they're 'free speech' activists, when, in reality, they're just blatant far-righters, especially with their views on women and masculinity
@@sarg778returnscodm7 I was subscribed to this guy, but hadn't really watched anything from him in a long time. Thank you for pointing this out. just wanted to say thank you for this...wouldn't mind a part two of it😊. I started to really enjoy these kind of interviews, not just from your channel. Brings a whole new dimension to reactions. Transforms it to something greater than the sum of its parts. Keep up the good work. And greetings to your family. 🙋♂️
Frekn awesome! I’ve been following Alex since jump street and I have also been following you pretty heavily but more recent.. 2 of my favorite channels coming together like this was probably one of the best vids and ideas ever!!! Mad love!!!!
One thing that struck me about the "Fox" interview with the David Heretic guy, was just how easily if you switch the two parts around it gives a very different perspective, for example the way we were shown it from the news segment was pretty much: "being offered money to review certain bands/songs (but I said no)" followed with "in a way [reaction channels] are the new musical journalism", filling the space that used to be taken with NME, Melody Maker, and other magazines etc, and even the music tv channels. Now, I'm not saying this is the case, it's just a random, half thought through, embryotic hypothesis, but what if the conversation was phrased more like: 'Reaction channels are basically the modern version of old analogue musical journalism, they fill the niche previously held by magazines etc ... in that context it would likely financially make sense if reactors were incentivised to react and respond to certain bands or songs, at a certain time in a certain way such as being paid or given a script.' I am not saying this is the case. I am just trying to point out that it really doesn't take much editing and the media like Fox news can pretty much rearrange the order of the conversation and have their guests say whatever they want them to say.
Oh and btw in a roundabout way I have seen bands pay for reactions on their videos but its by joining a reactors patreon and requesting a reaction to their song. I've only seen it from smaller bands to smaller reaction channels because those are the ones that can sell guaranteed reactions.
I love reaction videos because usually I learn something about the band/music that I didn’t know before, it’s nice to be able to go from “These are good ear noises” to “These ear noises are good because xyz”
David Herretic is one of the best reactors in my opinion because he is not only reacting, but is commenting the musical perspective of each song I watched him react to. He is a bass player. He may not have the visuals you both have with Alex but his reviews are always honest and he is not overexcited when he hears something good. I respect him for doing natural and professional reactions with each video. So you should take off the visuals aside and give him credits about what he is doing because he deserves that. And you couldn't know if the story with the offered money is true or false when you are only taking just your experience into consideration. Probably so as him not being right speaking from the name of all in front of the media but I don't think that was something intentional.
@@TankTheTech And that does "kind of" reflect my personal feeling about Mr. Herretic... He always felt "fishy" to me. I might do him wrong and I hope I do, but my feeling stays. When I started watching his videos, he always said: "It is not for the money", but then explained his Patreon thing with silver, gold and platinum memberships and how with a certain tier you can choose one or more videos each month... and so on. He is however very knowledgeable in music stuff. Did I spell that right?
I'm 55 years old and didn't think I could ever have a "new favorite band" at this age. I was pretty stuck in my music ways. Despite an eclectic taste in music my playlist was the same and I would watch reactions to some of my classic/favorites, like Queen, anything Freddie! Pretty sure I was watching one of those reactions when I saw "Watch The World Burn" in the sidebar and the thumbnail intrigued me. I still remember the "wtf did I just watch" feeling (along with the reactor) when I finished my first ever taste of Falling in Reverse/Ronnie. What an experience. I was an IMMEDIATE fan and I love them so much I am going to my first concert in YEARS to see them this summer. If not for reactions like these, I'd never have even know they exist! So grateful for reaction channels!
The Charismatic Voice had an interview with Devin Townsend taken-down because there were clips of his live shows in it! XD Devin made some calls and it was fine, but it's so frustrating.
Great interview, Tank! Well, when Alex told about the Iron Maden's YT account comment on his video, I constantly became happy because same thing happen to me once, when I made a reaction to one of my favourite portugise Dark Electro bands called Eden Synthetic Corps and their song called The Northern Hunter from 2015th album Sandwalkers. When they comment and acknowledged my reaction I became so damn happy that it was felt like I may loose my mind at any second)) It means a lot to me, because ESC and their 2015th album Sandwalkers is one of the bands and albums that turn me into electronic musician and became HUGE influence for me back than in 2020 when I started making electronic music)). But anyway, keep up the great work! Greetings from a huge fan of your channel from Murmansk Russian Federation!))
Bro the comment about watching these videos to find new music is exactly why I clicked on your channel for the first time. The first video I ever saw of yours was the Pisces reaction a few years ago. I had never once heard of Jinjer or any of their songs and after I watched that they were my number one band on Spotify that year. I've been watching you ever since because I find the gear talk really cool bc nobody else does it but I also watch you when you react to something I've never heard before. Such a great way to find new stuff and watching someone who is knowledgeable can also teach you things about the band that could interest you even more. Absolutely love this channel and everything you choose to do with it man 🤙🤙
100% why I watch reaction videos, I watch Roadie Reacts to watch a fellow metalhead get excited about new tracks, I watch Alex's channel for his reaction to metal, I also watch others like drum teachers, vocal coach's and producers to enjoy their journey into metal. It's helped me find lots of new bands and listen to tracks I haven't listened to in years. Keep up the awesome reactions both of you
Speaking of discovering bands by seeing reactions to them first. A little over a year ago I kept seeing the same suggestions off to the side while watching people react to some of my old favorites (Megadeth, Metallica, RATM, etc.) That band was Jinjer. I now have a new favorite band thanks to reaction channels like you two.
Because of reactors like Tank & Alex, I found my new favorite which is Nightwish, but recently have fallen in love with Ayreon & Within Temptation! Because of reactors I find “new music” that I never would have listened to before & because of reactors I get to once again listen to music from my past that I had forgotten all about! There’s so much out there to enjoy it’s hard to remember all of what you’ve loved in life & if you don’t pigeon-hole yourself in only enjoying one type of music, there’s always something new to find. 😊
I enjoy music reaction channels, but I find it really annoying that they pretend to like everything. It would be refreshing to hear someone just be honest and say if they didn't like a song, or don't like a certain genre. There are times that you can tell that they don't like a song and they just can't wait for it to end, but when it does they're like "wow, that was great, I loved it!".
If Brad of Brad & Lex doesn't like a song, he'll not only tell you about it but will refuse to even put the title of the song in the title of the video. 🤣 I have to respect that he's sacrificing views out of his dislike of the music.
@@xdraygul5169 "Duuhh I can tell you don't watch any black reaction videos Duuhh". Dude STFU, I pretty much only watch black people reacting to metal music. It's so obvious that most reactors (not all) but most will pretend to like something even if they really don't because they know that's how the game is played. They know they're gonna get more views and subscribers than if they were honest.
I'm really excited for you that your most watched video at the time of filming this was at 400k and you're at 1.2m now :) What a great achievement in just 2 years!
I loved this conversation. It was a bit funny because I'm a subscriber to both you and Alex, and the David the Heretic, and I appreciate all three channels for what they offer. I have to agree that as a viewer what attracts me most is the host of the reaction channel, his eloquency and authenticity, even if it can give some overreacting attitudes! I really value it when his words, enthusiasm, reaction puts a smile on my face. In a way you become part of our lives, a pen-pal with whom we have this "weird" type of connection. And yes, it's true, I've silently cursed when you stop the music video to comment - because right at that moment we are two "friends" sharing/enjoying and headbaning at the same song, as if we were in a club, or a concert! - but after all, the video is about your reaction! So yeah, keep on sharing we us!
As someone who likes watching reactions of my favourite bands (sometimes multiple times)… for me, it’s about a feeling of community. “Hey, they like so-and-so as much as I do!” Very few people I know listen to the same music I do. And my favourite reactors offer something other than just mutual appreciation. Tank, Elizabeth, Chase, Julia, and Harry from Songs and Thongs have specialized insight. Alex, Oldskulnerd, RichoPov, Mr. Rock and Roll, and several others have entertainment value. And I have to admit, I watched as many vocal coaches as I could find lose their minds over Jinjer’s Pisces. It was like watching the largest ever Punk’d episode. And I have even found new music because I respect the opinion of certain reactors. Thank you for Orbit Culture Tank!
Hey Tank, How ya doing? Im Cap. Glad to meet you. I want to throw my hat in the ring about reaction videos. First i dont get it why every video they stop the music and talk about it in the middle. , that blows it and kills the momentum . you would think the artists would want it to run the coarse . I would. Second, the songs. and artists like Elvis. some say they have never heard of him before. I say bull shit. Or the Beatles .Theres no fuckin way they have not heard of them before. They were so popular and everywhere on the radio, t. v. no way these reactors havent heard of them before. And third is that most dont have any idea how a song is constructed and how to give a detailed view . Some do a good job and break it down but i only see a couple that do. In closing , This is a very good topic and i thank you for delving into it. I'll be seeing you.
Thanks to you both I would have probably never heard sabaton which is now my favorite band hands down thanks to both of you and the gift that is electric callboy! That never gets old! Keep doing what you doing, love it and stay genuine!
We want reactors to love our fave bands as much as we do. There's a good way to spot the real from the fake tho. Real reactors hearing a song for the first time don't know not to pause during solos whereas a fake (P.K Swag) will just steal Tanks entire BAND-MAID reactions & pass them off as his own. And if Tank was faking "Tearing up" when watching B-M's "Domination" then he's a great actor.🤣
@@TankTheTech He's still around but he does less & less music reactions now. He's just trying to find what content gets him the most likes & subs as possible. How he didn't think i'd spot that all his awesome tech knowledge was taken straight from your channel, i don't know.🤷♂️
@@TankTheTech Tank I have seen others that appear to parrot your reactions from 2 years or more. Band maid is one for sure. It's so obvious. Also Chase with," band maid doing band maid things," really catches my ear from some dude's mouth a year or two later. Anyway, David Heretic I like. He's in LA, and has played in band's there for decades. I like his channel. I don't care about his comment. You're the guy,Tank. And Chase, of course! To
@@GaryHolloway-810 Are you talking about the bald-headed metal guy or whatever his name is ? The guy that completely went off on the ladies on his first reaction. But then slowly and steadily had to come back and sort of eat his own words little by little ? I let him know what I thought of his schtick right from the beginning. And the ones that are really starting to get on my nerves now. Are actually a reaction channel that I used to like. Until it lost, maybe it's better half. Because it used to be just usually the two of them. The Dicodec guys, with self-appointed Band Maid experts Ryan Mear, and the Champ of the Chump or whatever. When those three or four team up together. That's when I really have to get the barf bag out. Too much patting on the back and circle jerking. Old Mr B is always fun to watch. Other than that most of them so so. But they are there for what they're there for. Hope all is well with you Gary !
@@chuckvelten5337 No it's not him but i know the guy you're talking about. I have my fave channels & some of them don't even react to BAND-MAID my fave band much (are you listening Tank. Hint, hint😆).
I usually only watch reactions to artists I like. I personally don't care for reactors who obviously know nothing about music. I want to gain a better understanding of what is happening instrumentally and vocally. My favs are Tank, Elizabeth, Julia, and Anna Vaskelainen. If you aren't familiar with Anna you should check her out. Her Jinjer reactions are great.
@@julien2231 You make a good point, but I am constantly seeking music that is new to me and I have found some on reaction channels. I guess I should have said that I don't watch reactions to music I already know I don't like. I actually just found out about Aeterna in these comments, and I am looking more into them.
I've seen David Heretic hit with emotions while reacting to Ghost Love score, his 1st Nightwish vid, He got watery-eyed. I think that "all" might have just been a lip-slip, something that just came out without much of a thought or intent behind it. Happens to best of us.
As a Reactor, I appreciate getting to know new artists and exposing them to a new audience. And I agree, we are promoting these artist and the labels and publishers should be thankful for us doing this vs trying to block us. It's so annoying and makes zero sense. Thanks for making this video. Great conversation!
Some years back I worked in gaming, specifically promotion, and paying to do scripted gameplay videos and streams absolutely was a thing. Exactly bullet point lists and example sentences (which would look great when "quoted" in marketing). I never used such services, but I learned pretty quick which networks and channels would only cover our games for money. A clear difference to the ones that are actually interested in games and covering stuff for their audience. I would be astounded if exactly the same wasn't going on in music promotion.
The gaming industry doesn’t surprise me, and I think that’s pretty well known. But music? The profit is so much lower that no label I’ve talked to has said they’d even consider putting that into their marketing budget. In my experience, I’ve never had a record label offer me direct payment for a reaction. They usually only offer for the video to be whitelisted so we can monetize from ads. And that right there makes me also think why would a label ever pay their money when they could just whitelist a video and the person gets paid from AdSense.
@@TankTheTech you guys are smug lil idiots...I know for a fact that reacting is just a buisness that has many fake and oily characters in it like YOU and Hefner🤢😡💩🖕🖕 it all about the globalist and foriegn sponsors🤢💩🖕🖕 I know a reactor s that have had their channels taken down because they didnt bash Trump or because they didnt bend over for the globalist sponsors like you and Hefner do
David Heretic (long grey hair reactor you said you had no idea who this dude is) is one of the most genuine reactors with a well defined grading scale, will not score the song if he has heard it before, and he explains his scoring and he'll even knock his own favorite bands like Kiss. He does not focus on lyrics usually, mostly the song structure and stage performance. David has high ethical approach. He had merchandiser offer him partnership with discount code (like Tank has done), after he accepted they changed the terms of discount and he dropped them immediately. I think you guys should kind of think about HOW your saying things about someone you do not know. Tank and David are part of my favorite reactors list. Its perfectly fine to say "I find that hard to believe" rather than what you said. I think the part that took this off the rails was focusing on the one word "scripted". I don't think David meant a full script, just bullet points. David rants and probably just called it scripted because it pissed him off.
You’re right. I don’t know the guy. But all we did was discuss what he ACTUALLY said on a piece that was aired on TV. What he “meant” is irrelevant, because all we had to go off of was what he actually said. And the words “all these labels” came directly from him before he talked about the scripts and incentivized stuff.
@@TankTheTech Tank, media edits videos and most times you don’t have any say in what they include. “all these labels” could be an exaggerated way of talking. And why did you feel the need to bring up his subscriber count? I don’t know him. You could be totally right for all I know. But seriously, and I mean this in the nicest way, you guys sound like a couple of jealous toddlers.
Man, you guys brought way more insight into this topic than I expected! I have to say, I agree 100% with you on creators who post too much. It makes the subscription feed too saturated like you said
This was so interesting. Such a treat. You’re both such engaging content creators and personalities, and the chemistry here was great. Relaxed and fun. Thanks for this insight!
Ok, Tank, 'thank you' for mentioning Too LIT Mafia at 35:10 and NOT putting the channel name on the screen I wanted to see the reaction you talked about so I literally had to google 'tulip mafia' and hope for the best
No joke, i've found my love for metalcore and specific bands through you. My friend showed me hypa hypa and I didnt know how to react because i didnt listen to anything heavy back then. Then i was like, i wonder how people react to this song and found your channel. Now i've got spirit box, ice nine kills, unleash the archers, orbit culture and probably more that i forget. Those are my top bands and ive discovered all of them through your channel. I bought merch for UTA and I want to buy more for other bands but I gotta save money for now.... Anyone hating on reaction channels just seeks attention because they never got any
I check out your reactions for the react of music I really like, and then in some regards listen to new music with "strangers" to get onboard with new music in a whole new way. I really enjoy to see others reaction to music, hense "reaction". Very much like your content, and Alex Hefner's content. Keep up the good work, guys!
I watch about half a dozen reaction channels on the regular, including both of you two and I love watching them. I have found so many bands because of these channels... including but not limited to Orbit Culture, Parkway Drive, Powerwolf, Slaughter to Prevail, Malevolence and Lorna Shore! And if plans go right I'll be seeing all but StP this year at either Bloodstock or on their own tours.
MrLboydReacts is another channel I enjoy watching and he puts vidoes into his queue based on donations. His backlog is many months behind on videos to get to, he's killing it using that approach. He also doesn't even push it, just says something like "from a donation" or "from Patreon" on where the suggestion came from. So people get curious and go donate to get their suggestions into the queue.
I like watching reactions cause there is this feeling of sharing. And the joy of when someone gets into the thing you are into. It's like the sharing cool new single you just found with a friend.
@@julien2231 I personally suffer from saturation. My group has such a similar taste that in most cases if I found something new, there is like 90% chance that everyone knows it already. So reactors discovering "my bands" are like a second wind.
@@julien2231 well yes and no. True that we can listen the good stuff as a group, but I still have no joy in sharing discoveries, cause everyone already know that.

Those reactions do work. I've discovered bands like Jinjer, Lovebites and Band-Maid because of reaction videos and the went and boight their complete discography on CD.
I’m late to watching this video, but man I love Lost in Vegas!!! They were the first reaction channel that really peaked my interest. It’s their approach to listening and pausing, delving into the lyrics, and appreciating the technicalities of the musicians. But most of all, it’s their honesty! They also let you know how they like the song, tell you if it’s playlist or not and if it’s still there later on! But Bro, you’re quickly turning into my favorite channel to watch!! Love it!!
Great talk, great episode. I like reactions about music that hit me when I first discovered it. Seeing Charismatic Voice first reactions to SOAD for example is just a treat, besides the great information you get about singing. I know how I felt when I first heared Serj's voice over 20 years ago and it's just great to see that people get similar or same reactions. And there are so many examples for that. Or when "young" people discover "older" music and get the feels. I also like to discover new music but I have to be honest, I usually watch people reacting to stuff I already know.
2 of my favourite UA-camrs! Appreciate you both and your inputs, Alex is the reason I started a UA-cam channel and whilst I'm fairly new to your channel Tank, your insight and no bullshit approach is so refreshing ❤🔥
Dave Heretic is one of the best reactors on UA-cam right now. Maybe reach out to him before you basically call him a liar. The dude is knowledgeable and makes great content regardless of how many videos he puts out which was a dig alluding to big quantity means low quality.
You’re reading too much into that one. I even said putting out that much content is fine if thats what your viewers want, but that led into a general discussion about over-saturation, not David’s content.
I feel like first time you listen to a song and you LOVE it, you experience a peak dopamine high. You can listen to that song another 1000 times and still love it, but youll never recreate that first time listen. So when you see someone else react to that song for the first time, and they also love it, thats the closest you can get to your first time high again. You can almost relive it (second hand high) through your fav reactor/s. Which to me explains why more well known groups get more views, its just people chasing a high. Yous guys are both awesome btw great video!
I need a full fledged series with these 2 jabronis. Alex is one of my original OG reaction influences, and Tank who has DEFENINTELY been at the time of the reaction game for a while. keep it up guys
honestly, i dont really care about whether someone is genuine in their reaction because a lot of the time i watch it more for the knowledge they bring to discussing the song. whether its a music teacher breaking down how melodies are constructed in a piece or a director looking at how the stage is set up and the choices made in the performance part of a song. everyone I enjoy watching brings their own unique take to the music which im always happy to hear
I'm gonna chime in on this, bc I've known David Heretic and his lovely wife for 15 years. What you see is what you get with David - he is completely devoid of pretense or artifice. Every word he says, he means, and he holds himself to incredibly high moral and ethical standards- both in his YT endeavors and in life. Had anyone approached him and asked him to say certain things about an artist/band or song, he would tell them to eff right off. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with more integrity (and knowledge of/passion for music) than David - and he has every right to monetize his Patreon, just like other successful reactors do. If you don't like his style, cool - but there's no conspiracy here.
I like watching the younger generation reacting to the music I grew up on, and I like seeing them enjoy the great music we had back then. I have watched a lot of Alex. I do hate the fakes that I can tell they already listened to it, it's only obvious when they slip and start singing along. When I see that, I don't bother watching their reactions, It's great seeing the ones that grew up on rap or the new wave, experiencing the greatness of the 70s and 80s, and even into the 90s. I feel like I grew up in the best time.
Thanks a lot for this great video. 2 of my favorite reactors together: amazing ! and I hope it won't take months before a Back Lounge Podcast with him! I appreciate the hell out of you 2, and keep rocking! :)
Well, I run Wacken Metal Battle in Iceland. We found a frickin brilliant band to send to Wacken next month called Múr. I have strived since I started doing this WMB thing in Iceland that I should try to get as many foreign music journalists and biz people to be in the jury to a) get fresh ears to listen to the local scene and b) expose the local scene to something bigger. I've had editors and music journalists from a shit load of mags throughout Europe make the trek to Iceland, including Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Close Up Magazine etc. But, this year I contacted a bunch of youtube reactors about coming, including both Tank and Alex, that were neither able to come, but the Canadians in A&P Reacts made it and the father/son duo brought the matriarch of the house as well and they had a blast. They made a series of vlogs about the visit. But, trust me, YT reactors are a clear addition to the music journalism flora.
I was so jealous of A&P‘s trip, and watched all of those videos. When my daughter is older and I’m confident she can either make the trip or it wouldn’t overburden my wife to leave, I’d LOVE to make that trip.

Awesome to see two of my favorite reactors at same time
"Authenticity is key"...totally agree!
Same! I enjoy watching some reactions to music for that reason
Same but I have become jaded to a lot of reaction channels. It is weird that almost everyone is positive. You can listen to something outside of your wheel house and enjoy it but most the time there is a reason you don’t and that’s fine but just be honest.
Pity some reactors are all about views and deliberately look for high view counts rather than react to what they like themselves.
I drag as many people to local shows as possible. It's great to see them making it there later!
Thanks for this convo guys. You both rock!
Say they don't get offers.
Then proceeds to describe the offers they got.
Big difference between record labels offering you money and sponsored content there, chief.
@@TankTheTech You're really splitting hairs with this. Management works on behalf of the bands, and their respective labels, do they not?

@@Drescher1984 I agree 💯
Promotion-wise,I agree. Look at what Reactors have done to bands like Jinjer or Unleash The Archers. Or Orbit Culture. Or Spiritbox. Or Lorna Shore. Or Lovebites.I mean,I think that the entire reacting community /as well as us-viewers/ has managed to skyrocket popularity of these bands to Mount Everest. And I am sure it has been translating to album sales,to merchandise sales,to ticket sales.
It's because of reactors that I found bands like Nightwish, and Amon Amarth
Who?!? Mt Everest would include people like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Garth Brooks, Metallica, Britney Spears, and Taylor Swift. I have no clue who those bands are.
@sonofsarek surely you know they mean within their respective genres.
Im just starting out, and learning about copyrights and so on! Tank and Alex are great, and thank you🤘
I really appreciated this video a lot.
Every reactor on UA-cam has the same issues. Don't let it discourage you!
@@TankTheTech - Hey man, that was a really excellent video, I enjoyed watching it, especially since recently I have been enjoying a lot of movie reaction channels - Alex Hefner being one of my new top favorites (I also enjoy JUST TRUST ASH, White Noise Reacts & Mary Cherry to name a few), and so it was truly interesting to see him being interviewed almost by you, on his thoughts and views, as this was a side of him that was new, I had never seen him other than reacting to movies.

great reaction guys it was fun watching you and alex react to this
I quite enjoy some of David Heretic reactions. A bit gimmicky but as a bassist he seems to know his music.
Innocence? You mean lying face?

@@TankTheTech I just saw that Alan from Dicodec has a conversation with David Heretic scheduled for tomorrow. That might be interesting.
Without y’all, I would never heave found:
Lorna Shore
Electric Callboy
Sabaton
Jonathan Young
Jinjer
Slaughter to prevail
Whitechapel
Voiceplay
Ayreon
Epica
Large portions of things Nightwish did
Nanowar of steel
Dimash
Voiceplay
Eluveitie
Alestorm
And many others. Y’all are the best, and thank you so much!
Agree with you guys 100%. Y'all are the new music advertisers. Positive or negative reactions it's still advertising.
No such thing as bad publicity.
Say more? I don't know his story.
I’ve not seen Saving Private Ryan… I’m in my 30s

I'm guessing this is where youtube would do well with a "laugh react"
Personally, i think reactors have the potential to expose a band to a new audience and that exposure will lead to new fans. That brings value, and in the age of analytics, that line of thinking can be proven or disproven by the data. Also, because a reactor may create value to a company, that doesn't necessarily mean the company will or should compensate the reactor.
when they are dishonest for money, they might as well admit they are corporate shills.
Thanks to Tank the tech, I've discovered Orbit Culture. Hadn't heard much about them before. Now they are one of my favorite bands!
you should check DarkViperAU videos on react content.
Do you use 4 space tabs after periods? AMAZIN'.
I'm really happy to see you both here talk about reaction and your experience with this... Big appreciation for you guys ❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌

Frekn awesome! I’ve been following Alex since jump street and I have also been following you pretty heavily but more recent.. 2 of my favorite channels coming together like this was probably one of the best vids and ideas ever!!! Mad love!!!!
Us head bangers are becoming senior citizens now. A little Metallica in the nursing home is a good thing.
Cool video guys. I really enjoyed the discussion.
One thing that struck me about the "Fox" interview with the David Heretic guy, was just how easily if you switch the two parts around it gives a very different perspective, for example the way we were shown it from the news segment was pretty much:
"being offered money to review certain bands/songs (but I said no)" followed with "in a way [reaction channels] are the new musical journalism", filling the space that used to be taken with NME, Melody Maker, and other magazines etc, and even the music tv channels.
Now, I'm not saying this is the case, it's just a random, half thought through, embryotic hypothesis, but what if the conversation was phrased more like:
'Reaction channels are basically the modern version of old analogue musical journalism, they fill the niche previously held by magazines etc ... in that context it would likely financially make sense if reactors were incentivised to react and respond to certain bands or songs, at a certain time in a certain way such as being paid or given a script.'
I am not saying this is the case.
Great discussion!!!
Also, yinz two worked your cameras so professionally!

Was looking for this kind of comment, also david said he would be down to talk with tank in an interview, i think tank should take up the offer.
I like David Heretic, too. He's not my go to reactor, but I have enjoyed his reactions on his channel.
David also stated ina recent video that he reached out to Tank with no response :( Might be a good idea to start a conversation!
Except he did get a response, because we've talked back and forth a few times.
XD
Devin made some calls and it was fine, but it's so frustrating.
Helping the view count! Some reactors don't realise how fake they look. "I haven't seen/heard this before" RIIIIGHT!

Tank and Alex 2 of my most fav vid reactors!!! Good to see you 2 guys collab!!!

Whatever happened to that guy? Is he still ripping off reactions?

Well said and what I would have like to have said in my comment!
This 👍
You’re right. I don’t know the guy. But all we did was discuss what he ACTUALLY said on a piece that was aired on TV. What he “meant” is irrelevant, because all we had to go off of was what he actually said. And the words “all these labels” came directly from him before he talked about the scripts and incentivized stuff.
@@TankTheTech He never said all these labels I don't actually think he said the word label at all. The word label was said by the narrator.

@@TankTheTech Learn to take criticism, my dude.
Literally my two favorite reactors Thanks guys
This was great, Tank! 11:35 11:58 yes, pretty much the same for me. Mostly indie labels. 26:45 - 27:02 = truth!!!
I loved this video. Alex seems like such a cool dude. He’s the first reactor I ever saw and the only one I keep up with regularly
honestly, i dont really care about whether someone is genuine in their reaction because a lot of the time i watch it more for the knowledge they bring to discussing the song. whether its a music teacher breaking down how melodies are constructed in a piece or a director looking at how the stage is set up and the choices made in the performance part of a song. everyone I enjoy watching brings their own unique take to the music which im always happy to hear
You're a good sheeple🤢💩🖕🖕...and you are adding to the bank account of foriegn, globalist products that they sponsor
Two of my favourite UA-camrs !!! Keep up the great work guys!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great conversation, thought provoking. I'm going to watch it again ;)
@@TankTheTech yeah man! Just don't wait until she's old enough to be your partner in reactions :) hahaha
Just found you today and thank you for introducing me to Alex.
