Also that way you can transition between each games gameplay smoothly, as if you play chronologically it may feel hard and out of place
I want to play in release order, how ever I’ve heard playing mgs4 last is the best way to finish the story because of its emotion. Should I just play in release order and switch 5 with 4?

The first Metal Gear game I played was Peace Walker, back on the PSP era, it made me love the series and play all the other games of the franchise. The only one I couldn't play yet was that obscure one that release on a cellphone, that takes place between MGS1 and MGS2

The first Metal Gear Game I played was on PS1 just fell in love with the storyline and PlayStation was my very first game console me my brother owned. Been a fan ever since
A couple of daya ago I gor my Big Boss codename for MGS2! Also got MGS and the MSX games. I'm gonna wait for the announcement of Volume 2 or for MGSV to go into sale.
I just started the saga and this comes in handy. Played MGS 1 back in the days and I used to love it. Now I just ended MGS 3 moded in PC and im obsessed. I'll play MGS 1 again and start it all over. Thank you fam! +sub
I think if people wanted to play the msx games, I would recommend doing when you finish mgs3, by that one your a fan and are ready to explore the games, it will definitely impact your view when playing mgs4.
Super helpful video! I played Revengeance first and while I know the OG series isn't actually that similar to it, I kept wanting to try it and bought all the games I could on PC. I'll probably try watching a walk-through of 4 and Peace Walker
Great video! But I must say, as someone who was introduced to the Metal Gear series through MGS3, I don't think it's weird to have people start there. From a narrative perspective it worked for me when I got the Subsistence version way back on the PS2 which also included Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. There is a reason MGS3 is being remade and that is because of its more accessible story and more self-contained plot within the series canon. Yes, there are references that make sense from playing the previous games, but that is not as bad as say, playing MGS2 before MGS1 or playing MGS4 before any other game or even *shudder* being introduced to the series with Metal Gear Rising because of the MEMES! Anyway, I think it's still perfectly viable to have MGS3 as a starter experience relatively speaking. 😁
I had first played MGS with MGS3 on the 3DS. After that, I didn't play any until the HD collection on PS5. From there, I played the games in order. I actually enjoyed the MG games, following a guide and playing on easy ( you can plat on easy) they only take around 4 hours. They are dated but I don't mind old games too much. I thought it was worth it for all of the references in MGS1-3.
Best thing about this series. If you start at the very beginning, and go in order, By the time you reach Guns of the Partriots, the story has you yearning to do it all over again if you space them out right. Also Konami need to give MGS4 some love and redistribute it without requiring an emulator
I got the Master Collection not long after it came out. I played all the Splinter Cell games but always wanted to play the Metal Gear games for a different stealth experience (I really wish we still got stealth games like them...). My only experience with Metal Gear was playing some of Metal Gear Solid way back in the PS1 days. I really wanted to play MGS3 since I'd heard how great it was and the Master Collection finally gave me that chance. But I did play the first two MGS games before it and was glad I did. It takes a lot of ideas from MGS2 and makes them better. I can't say I was a huge fan of MGS2, but MGS3 might be one of my favorite games of all time, even after just recently playing it for the first time. I am actually going back and playing the first two games, and although I'm old enough to remember when game design was like those games, I'm definitely using a guide for the first game, at least.
Thanks for the video. I managed to grab a PS3 legacy copy second hand and they didn't redeem the download code... Even included the art book and slip cover. Managed to tank through the whole collection in a couple weeks and now I'm deep into 5. Definitely a life long Kojima fan now
I’ve only done 3 and ground zeroes/phantom pain in that order. Fun and I knew most of the story but still had enough gaps in my own knowledge to be a little confused.
I was going to suggest to a friend to play through in chronological order but yeah release just makes much more sense. I feel the same way with watching Star Wars. Release order is best.
7:30 Which I do not understand at all. Peace Walker is an excellent game. And while it's not as good as Metal Gear Solid 3, I think I personally enjoy it just as much.
I agree. Peace Walker is awesome. It's one of my most replayed games despite it being one of the most grindy. Which is probably one of the main reasons people dislike it.
As a console player, my plan is to start with the master collection then immediately move on to metal gear rising. After that I will probably just wait until master collection vol 2 comes out to play 4 and peace walker (ground zero and phantom pain are already accessible by the Xbox store). I might even start with metal gear rising as it’s the one I’m looking forward to the most, what do y’all think of this?
So one thing. I know it use too but can’t check if it still there but ps+ let’s u stream old ps3-2 games on it. MGS4 was one of them and I believe it still there. There is small input delay but other then that it is the full game. U can use it on ps4-5 and the old system use to do pc too but I don’t know if it still does. I hope that helps anyone
I Was just looking for some good stealth and i ALWAYS favored parts of games where you sneak around i just love that (hence why i love Hitman so much) i played a little bit metal gear back in the day as a child but never past 30 minutes or so. I am glad to be experiencing the franchise i slept on for far too long it is really enjoyable n like resident evil, u dont really get a bad mainline numbered gamei n the series.
I’m be been playing in release order since I got the Master Collection Vol.1. The Codec is amazing as it helps me navigate through tight spots. I just cleared MGS2 with perfect stealth and no kills. It was on easy mode for the stealth trophy but still very fun with the M9 tranq pistol. After getting the scoop on The Patriots, I can’t wait for what happens next in MGS4. I’m going to wait for Vol. 2 for that. Until then, I need to start on Snake Eater before its Delta remake arrives.
MGS4 in my eyes is the best metal gear. Just cause it combines good graphics with everything else MGS has to offer. Plus it has such a complex story and is still a 100% Kojima Game
I haven't played any of the games fully. Back in the psp era, I had peace walker but never finished it. So in that in mind which game should I start? I have PC and PS5.
5:53 Being honest, I have an extreme dislike for Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5. Because of that, I've never lost any sleep over Metal Gear Solid 4 not being ported. It would be nice for people who like that game as well as newcomers to have it readily available, though. And I know this sounds strange, but honestly, I recommend just ignoring Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5. Trust me. Doing so makes the series considerably less messy. Play the games if you like them, but the poor writing quality in Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5 kind of blasts a hole in the series.
Ok so i own a PS3 and PS5 i watched the video but am still wondering what you would recommend for me, i haven’t played a single game yet but am pretty sure i’m gonna enjoy the series.
