- Taylor: • I GOT A NEW TINY PET (...
(All clips in this video were used as per "Fair use".)
Hey guys, thank you so much for watching this video!
Taylor Nicole Dean recently uploaded a video on her new pet orchid mantis. I personally have been keeping orchid mantis for close to 2 years so I noticed some information was not quite right.
I hope I could clarify some things that Taylor was not explaining correctly.
Please keep in mind that not at all am I trying to hate on Taylor, I like her and this is purely for educational reasons.

Too much humidity means more chance for a mold infestation as well... especially if your enclosure doesn't have good ventilation.
This is very true. Regrettably when I was younger an orchid mantis was my first mantis and I kept her in a small tank sort of like Taylor's. It had more ventilation than hers, although controlling the mold problem was very difficult so I ended up switching eco earth for vermiculite.
She unfortunately passed prematurely, not because I wasn't caring for her properly necessarily, but during one of her sheds she perched in a way that deformed her new exoskeleton, making it slightly more difficult to catch prey - although she ultimately passed from not being able to shed again after that.
Frankly, I've learned my lesson. Don't take advice from Taylor Nichole Dean alone, to do research and watch videos from people with experience. This video actually taught me a lot so I'm really glad to have found it.
I've heard too much humidity impacts molts negatively as well.:(
Just add springtails.
@@beth2996 Springtails won't lower humidity...or prevent the mantis from getting a bad molt
@@Dragonspeak30 no but they will help to not have mold growth
Omg that tin foil....not only will it create stagnant air it will bake the poor mantis by trapping in the heat! I feel bad for the mantis she murdered.
Fish Eisley you clearly don’t know what the word murder means
Slime lover 22 oh, I do. It means premeditated killing. Which she has been pretty close to doing many times. By doing poor research, sleeping for 10 hours then checking on ailing animals only once in over a day, man handling neonate kittens for Instagram clout doing the same with other animals that shouldn’t be handled, by just making facts up that go against proper care for views?
Slime lover 22 if she really does know all the facts like she claims to, and STILL does things that endanger and kill up to 7 pets a month, then she knows what she’s doing by putting their lives in danger. And doing it anyways because she likes the attention.
Fish Eisley her pets dying and murder is not the same thing.
Fish Eisley how do you know she likes the attention? You don’t know her personally. And if you have a lot of pets, they die it’s just what happens. And putting pets in danger is not murder
Bro where did her mantis even go?! We got one video about it...
It died
The same place her crab, Ursula, went
she murdered it, much like her other animals
She killed it
Yeah, I'm sure she killed it on purpose...😒😒😒
her orchid mantis probably died. i don’t understand why someone especially her would make a care video of something she had no experience with
cowboy bill egg sadly did pass.
Along with SEVERAL other animals this month.
@Ranunculus She's awful in general. Poor pets, they did nothing to deserve this.
cowboy bill egg died of old age, douchebag. so guess what? He lived a FULL life, so she obviously did something right.
Considering she got Egg in June. I highly doubt 5 months after getting Egg, he/she passed from old age. Due to them living for at bare minimum 7 months, sometimes up to 14 months, plus she never even says how old it was when she got it. Sounds fishy to me.
Hell, Cheese apparently died recently and he was awfully small for a long ass time. He must've been really young as well, considering how Cowfish get to be around 3x as big as Cheese was. But hey, what do I know from the hours of researching about just a few of the pets she's had that have prematurely passed?
@@alannamccarthy3947 a mantises lifespan is at least 10 month as i already mentioned. "Egg" wouldn't be older than 6 months right now so he definitely did not die of old age. (He was tiny when she got him, no older than 2 months)
There really arent much mantis keeping enthusiasts from what i've seen online
The amount of passion and interest you show towards these underrated pets is Wonderful
Your awesome and i wish your channel grows big eventually
Thank you so much, your support means the world to me 😍 I know, mantis are way too underrated but i feel like they're slowly getting more popular :)
@@KioWatanabe I've actually seen a purple orchid mantis before it was wild though since they're local here.
At this point she's just a hoarder. You should never EVER get so many animals that you just can't take proper care of them. I have my hands full with one dog. I wish I could get a snake, geckos and rats but it's just not smart right now.
You can love your animals and still take bad care of them.
Meridia's Bacon she is a hoarder. She has animals for views. She is a huge animal UA-camd that should’ve known to do full research on every animal she owns. We rarely ever see any animals twice on her channel.
@@gabbypolk135 Very true. I remember someone critizising something about either her reptile or spider care and some spider owner pointed out that she seemed to be kind of scared of her tarantula because it had haired her. Kinda understandable but it just gives me the feeling that she has (had?) that particular pet just to have a cool and different pet.
@@gabbypolk135 We see many of her animals multiple ties and. if you actually watched her videos and saw her POV you might think differently so educate yourself on her POV and then hate if you still want too
Meridia's Bacon you are just assuming things. My gosh stop acting like you know her personally. And just because you have 1 dog that you can’t take care of doesn’t mean that you can say how many pets people need to have. As long as you take care of them, keep them alive and the animals are happy and healthy everything should be fine.
@@gimmethetea9101 My point was; she isn't taking proper care of (all of) them, some of them are not happy and healthy, and very recently ten of them have died while they were young. Are you really surprised that people are calling her out for this?
She went from 0 snakes to how many in a year? The way she houses them is not good for most of them and she seems to be housing them in a rack just so she can have as many as possible. I could also critizise her handling of them but I hope you get my point by now.
Your English is so good! Don't apologize. Waterlogged is the correct term :)
@ॐ गणेश ॐ absolutely lol. I'm quite impressed it's even in a non native speakers vocab. I've probably said waterlogged like twice in the last 3 years lol
@@jordanleighwheatley . I think I've probably only said it twice in my whole life. You're right her English is good, actually it's very good. Much respect to her and to you for pointing it out.
English is my second language too, I envy her accent so much, so clear and easy to understand, that is a hard thing to achieve.
Jordan Leigh Wheatley
Ooh, where is she from?
Thank you for making this video. More people need to be brave enough to openly correct TND because let's be honest, her videos are not great. She has a tendency to purchase a new exotic pet, keep it for a few weeks and then make a care video giving her "expert" advice that is based on an hour or two of google searches. Anyone who has ever kept an exotic pet knows that it takes months and even years to perfect your husbandry and owning an animal for only a few weeks it's likely you are still making many mistakes even if you think you have done your research. The internet is littered with bad care advice already. The best place to get animal care advice is from keepers who have been in the hobby for many years and have already worked through the many mistakes that new owners make. You should always talk to as many experienced keepers as possible plus research the animals natural behaviour and natural environment in the wild as this will help you to determine what advice makes the most sense (for example the natural behaviour of insects going up and down to thermoregulate, not side to side).
Stop eating shit
She has such a young (rabid) fanbase I worry that they'll follow her example with animal care and purchases. I unsubbed when she got those kittens, I'm no exotic expert but I've had cats for years including two very sick kittens (both lived and currently sleeping on the bed) and that broke me up. And then to go out and buy a 5 week old kitten... I gave up, it boggled my mind.
I completely agree. Although it's not in the same "league" of exotics as some of Taylor's reptiles, I adopted a bunny earlier this year (in January) and would only say I'm just now a relatively "good" bunny owner (meaning my bunny has a lovely and VERY spacious setup [basically my entire living room], a very high quality diet, and shows very happy body language/signs of being bonded to me DAILY). Beyond basic care, I made tons of mistakes in those first few months of owning him, one of the worst ones being giving him surfaces to sit/sleep on that weren't supportive enough for his hind legs (mostly towels). As a novice, well-intentioned owner, I had no idea that towels weren't good enough, and *these are the kinds of things a basic Google search won't tell you*. He wound up getting sore hocks (mild, but still so alarming) and he now has memory foam mats I special ordered just for him, plus thick carpets all throughout his play area. His sore hocks healed, but that's just one example. It would be SO misguided of me to start a channel about bunny care immediately after getting him - sure, I had a bunny and I knew the basics, but that didn't make me REMOTELY qualified to give other people advice about bunny ownership. It's a trial and error process and like you said, it takes months and even years to get right. I liked Taylor Nicole Dean initially but I'm not surprised to see she's getting some major backlash as of late. I hope she gets it together and a) waits a considerable period to make "how to" care videos and b) stops getting so many animals. I initially thought she lived with her family at home (e.g., parents and siblings helped with all the animals) but I was stunned to find out she lived in an apartment alone with her boyfriend. Oof. Not good.
I couldn't have said this better myself you are spot on with what I thought as well. She uploads care videos way too early so I know that she's only spewing info she just googled. She does a good job making it sound like she's an expert zoologist/veterinarian though and I think that's why so many kids look up to her. Meanwhile it appears that the only "expert" experience she has is working at PetSmart. I personally don't trust advice from someone that googled a bunch of stuff( something I cud do) but instead wait to hear from her after she's had the animal in her life long enough to learn their kinks and quirks. For instance, there's certain things that my dog can't eat but other similar dogs can eat it just fine. I wouldn't know that from Google I only know that cuz I've had this dog in my life for 6 years and learned that foods that are ok for other dogs of his breed actually upsets his stomach. (Not saying it took 6 yrs to learn that lol but u get my point) Animals are individuals so it's not the best to group them all together and think they will react the same way to everything.
I agree. I’ve been researching Pac-Man frogs and pall pythons and hamsters and puppies for YEARS and now I finally have the balls to adopt a puppy. Next I’ll probably get a turtle but only because I’ll know how to freaking care for it finally
Your video is wonderful! This is how people should “correct,” others. Your video is done with class! I appreciate learning from you. Your video has been pure facts. No shady comments or anything horrible. Well done!
Thank you💚
I'm so glad so many UA-camrs are talking about her mistakes. I've noticed that a lot of her information is incorrect, and it seems that she's an extreme exotic pet hoarder. I stopped watching her after she misgenederd Goose, bought two other females, kept them in the same cage and fake cried for Cheese.
I agree but she really did love cheese
yeah, i was a fan but i watched a few of these exposure type videos and my view changed drastically. she clearly doesn't spend enough time with her animals and doesnt have enough knowledge of their care before purchasing them.
-also her top lip looks like oatmeal-
Ok guys, hey. We need to talk. Please take your time to read this if you want to leave a comment. I think a lot of people don't fully understand that this video was never meant to draw any kind of negativity towards her in any way. The video is not about her- it's specifically about the care she gives her orchid mantis. Even if someone with 1000 subscribers had made this video I would have made the same reaction video. This video was purely for educational purposes.
Also I'm not trying to get involved in any “drama”. This video was made 4 months ago, there was no drama back then. This is an animal channel, not a drama channel and I want to keep it that way. All I wanted to reach with this video was that people are aware that not all info is correct on this video which might not even be her fault! She got this information from somewhere or someone whom she trusts and that's why she did it this way. Of course she had to get the info somewhere so I dont blame her for not knowing better.
I still watch her and I'm not interested in participating in the drama surrounding her as she can do with her life whatever she likes to do with her life. It's not for me to judge in any way. But if she makes a care guide on an animal which is not accurate and thousand of people see it and might jeopardize the lifes of many animals its not about her life anymore and thats why I got involved.
I'm not a big fan of all the negativity and it feels almost like a battle between the people who dislike her and the ones who like her in the comments which I never intended on creating. I am thinking of making this video private as nowadays everything is seen as hate, even if all you do is give advise on how to better certain things. I make mistakes either and appreciate when people comment on it as long as its constructive and not just telling me how bad I am.
If this video isn't up anymore it's not because I dont want to be judged but because I dont want my channel to be a battleground. I hope you guys understand. Thank you :)
Kio Watanabe I really appreciate your effort. Thank you ❤️
Please don’t make this video private! You’re doing a great job educating people on the misinformation that was being given out so if anything, just turn off the comments. This video can help save so many lives it would be a shame to make it private.
You are awesome. Anyone who doesn't want proper care shown for living creatures is not an animal lover.
I dont at all think this is for drama. I like Taylor, I do. However a lot of her videos can have misinformation and as YOU clearly said, it isnt her fault because she HAD TO HAVE HAD to get it somewhere. I mean, even if it is simple like the color part of the video, it is still important.
Females: white, pinkish white, mix of pink and white, pink white and yellow, etc and also share greenish brown like the males
Males: greenish brown and white (so far as I know by National Geographic)
The condensation is especially important as well. There are things that need to be called out not only for constructive criticism but simply because we are ALL learning every day and this is something that many others and herself can learn from but claiming its drama is wrong. Just because you dont agree with something doesnt mean it is drama. This video *IS NOT DRAMA*
Hey Kio, I don't think you should take the video down, maybe just disable the comments if they get a bit too hostile for your liking. I think your video is important to keep up as it serves to educate people about this particular animal. Hopefully, this means your original intent with the video remains, but the hostility is removed. Either way, wish you all the best.
TND does her videos like I do presentations in class on information i googled an hour prior
I'm sure that's exactly what she does, impulse buys something she thinks looks neat, research later. And somehow, SOMEWAY, she thinks that makes her qualified enough to put out a video to thousands of impressionable minds
@@EliBleats its sad too, because then ALL of those misinformed minds are gonna go out and buy rare exotic potentially endangered animals they have no right or reason owning
@@EliBleats people who should honestly stick to ball pythons and corn snakes going out and buying green tree pythons and monitor lizards because they saw some cute bimbo on youtube
😂💀💀💀💀
Oh God, I've been presenting like tnd for years.
You are so respectful it's so frustrating to see how uninformed she can be especially with pets that require attentive care. Also what language is your first? Your accent is very sweet 👍
My first language is german! Thank you so much for the comment 😊
Have you seen her seahorse video? You are the uniformed one. However, you have a right to your opinion of what "attentive care" may be. ugh.
@@naomihogan3472 I've seen all her videos actually and you can't deny after she moved to her apartment more and more things started to go wrong :(
@@dingobaby9617 what do you mean "more things have gone wrong"? something is always going to "go wrong" when you own an animal, but with the quantity of how many animals she owns more things are going to "go wrong" because that is just how it happens. I believe that she has done the best to her abilities to keep her animals alive and healthy.
@Naomi Hogan you're really justifying her animals dying because she has a lot... that's 100% a sign that SHE HAS TOO MANY ANIMALS. i'm sorry, but there is nothing coincidental about ten of her animals dying since october. and if you pay attention to her current animals, you would be able to see that a lot of them are NOT in healthy conditions. moral of the story is, if you don't have the time or energy to make sure ALL of your animals are healthy, then DON'T have 50 pets. if you follow other pet youtubers that have a lot of pets like taylor, you would see that this is not normal or okay because i've never seen this much death and illness coming from a channel that brands itself on animal care.
I’m glad someone going out and taking the time to correct misinformation spread by a very popular UA-cam ive been thinking about getting a couple mantises but not for awhile
I feel like Taylor does a quick Wikipedia search and then reads it verbatim in front of her camera
Wow... I’ve been using Taylor’s videos as ways to learn about the different types of animals and I’m so glad I never took the dive and bought something using info she gave. I’ve found so much stuff out in the past 2 days... how does her subscribers not know all this? I’m glad I’ve learned all this... she’s definitely not someone I want to support...
What did you find out ? I'm subscribed to her and all these comments are like actually shocking
FuckYaChickenStrips she’s a heroin addict... there’s messages out there where she admits to it& talks about how she’s trying to quit. She’s in an abusive relationship, admits it’s abusive but refuses to leave it... all around behavior I don’t want to support
@@ReadObituaries where did you find that info tho
FuckYaChickenStrips there’s UA-cam videos that show the screenshots of messages between Taylor and one of her friends that decided to dox her when she left the abusive dude& then went back to him like straight away after telling everyone she wouldn’t. Her abusive boyfriend has dated other UA-camrs who have came out and said he was shooting heroin (Taylor said that they snort it- they don’t shoot it up. But who knows).
Her subscribers do find out, or at least some do. I subbed to her sometime last year because she seemed like a nice gal who kept some cute pets in her bedroom and liked talking about them. Then this year I saw some vids that showed her from a completely different light, not to mention how neglectful she was to some of her animals which resulted in needless animal deaths. I unsubbed some months ago. UA-cam still recs me videos of people talking about her, lol.
Oml that cricket in the background is so loud I thought it was in the room with me! I freaked out thinking my gecko’s food was loose!
Hahaha I'm sorry! In some videos i forget to put them in another room
Nice video! It's refreshing to see proper constructive criticism instead of salty dramatic slandering.
I havent found "salty dramatic slandering", if you consider constructive criticism without sugar coating is that then you need to grow up.
@@marcelalopez9053 Then you haven't been looking anywhere. At all. They said something nice, no reason for you to butt in and be rude for no reason when they said nothing wrong. Maybe it's you who needs to grow up.
Salty dramatic slandering is the only way to get the bitch to listen. She hadn't listened to proper constructive criticism do far.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, you're now the second youtuber I've seen make a vid about the neglect and I had previously had no knowledge about this. There's a youtuber going by the name "what ever" who made a lot of huge points in a video, ranging from neglectful treatment to lying about her animals. I'm glad that people who actually know about the animals she's "taking care of" are correcting and making statements about the proper care they need, considering she's obviously doing something wrong and not even attempting to correct anything.
I watched the video of that youtuber just yesterday! Definitely some good points in that video. Thank you so much for your comment 😊
Madison O'Guin Of course she doesn’t even want to learn and fix her mistakes. If she was willing to, i’d be more supportive about her videos. She probably just thinks she knows everything and has such a big fan base that she doesn’t want to be wrong.
Shes 100% wrong and an animal hoarder, shes way in over head with the amount of animals she does have, and its only a matter of time before someone reports her to the Humane Society, i seriously would if i had all contact information for her. I just heard of this Taylor girl and watched a couple of her videos and she has no idea what she is doing most of the time. She even started off a video saying her snake/lizard room was way too hot, and had no fans for circulation. Shes neglectful and gets new animals for more subs and likes, which is completely wrong! Whats going to happen to all the animals she has now when that money stops? And why are they all dying of malnutrition and mysterious illnesses? If cheese actually was infected he wouldve shown signs early on, he got infected because he tank isnt properly maintained and she probably didnt clean her feeders, or introduced another fish with the infection in the tank. Nothing adds up with Taylor and she needs taken down.
Since the 'what ever' video, I have watched around 5 or 6 in total from other youtubers. It's definitely becoming a huge issue to everyone and everyone is putting in their opinions which is good. I agree, everyone should watch other videos because there are quite a few stances going around on the different cases of neglect.
Madison O'Guin you are such a bitch i mean really neglect really she does not neglect her animals in mean sure she made mistakes hell I make mistakes with my animals but to call I neglect she had to no feed her animals not give them shelter and love them if they need attention and so far with her other animals she is doing fine did you know that she cried when her pet fish died if you had a pet fish did you cry it is just she loves her animals and cares about them and takes care of them with some mistakes if you make a mistake with your animal you can go to hell
English isn't your first language??? Wow you speak English very well and barely have an accent.
I'm glad I found this video. I did a lot wrong with my first mantis and have been too upset over unintentionally killing her from improper care to get a new one.
me too! they're gorgeous creatures but I feel so horrible I couldnt bring myself to own one ever again
I'm pretty sure that they've died already sadly. I know she had a mishap with some cages over heating, including the orchid mantis ones sadly. Great video, don't worry about the hate and what people are saying. You're doing great! I enjoyed the video and didn't see it as bashing or negative in the least bit! Keep it up don't give up!
Didn’t include or hid mantis, look she’s not perfect and I think she’s go some serious changing to do but you literally just said something that wasn’t true
When you mentioned the ring i instinctively thought "Not like taylor's mantis will live through 4 molds(molts?)" and i feel kinda bad that i thought that but on the other hand it wouldnt surprise me if it came true.
It's BEEN dead
i just found you just after i watched another video on her snakes and that they are not getting enough water and how you can see that. also alot of het pets die lately unfortunaly to ealy in life. if she wants so many pets and so many species she had to do her homework. i really wanted a gekko but i cannot find everything i need in my country so i wont do it i sake of the pet. and she has alot and i really mean a lot of pets where has she all the time to take care of them. i Always hear that she is ill or traffeling what about her pets..... the more i hear about taylor the more i get worried about her pets specialy the ones that often dont make it on the screen anymore
sonrayza she’s a classic hoarder. “I don’t have to much” and “It’s not my fault” are a classic hoarder quotes. She doesn’t have the ability to care for them, and denies it. Her rats are kept in appalling conditions, weaned rats need a different set up than what she has, they need at least 1.5 hours daily of out of cage play and interaction with humans, which they clearly haven’t gotten. And then there’s her monitor who clear isn’t tamed at all. There’s also some speculation that her bf has gotten her hooked on some hard drugs, it would explain some things but I can’t speak for how true this is but given how vulnerable she is I wouldn’t be surprised.
@@Crystalthewolf1000 yeah i see that now. I only followd her on UA-cam so i never knew about the other stuff. I am just finding this out.
sonrayza I find it quite sad, I think she has a lot of good potential. On some level she does truly care for the animals she has, but everything else in her life comes first which is how it shouldn’t be when you take on something that’s completely dependent on you for life. She needs some help with her mental health, it’s obvious she’s struggling with it. And her boyfriend doesn’t help at all.
In SG, geckos thrive and so do lizards. Come to our country for free geckos and lizards. They’re everywhere :> kekeke jkjk
Thank you for making this video. I used to watch Taylor, but then I learned more about fish and realized she was doing a lot wrong. I think more people should do videos like this, because a lot of her followers are very inexperienced with animals and young so they wouldn't know any better and might make mistakes as well. I think she has potential, but she needs to learn from her mistakes and either have less animals or increase the amount of time and effort she's putting in first.
By the way, I decided to look up orchid mantises to learn more about them and stumbled across a website that was saying the same things Taylor said: www.waza.org/en/zoo/choose-a-species/invertebrates/insects-and-millipedes/hymenopus-coronatus
www.keepinginsects.com/praying-mantis/species/orchid-mantis/
www.keepingexoticpets.com/orchid-mantis-hymenopus-coronatus-care-sheet/
It just shows how important doing as much research and using as many (reputable) sources as you can is.
I got a orchid mantis as my first mantis, i have had her for some months now, she has had one shed, (it went very well), she eats like she should. I think the most important thing is that you do your research, are serious about your animal, and have time for your animal. Thats why I dont get more animals, because I would not be able to handle them all
It's very sad to see her animals suffering but not only that she keeps getting a new exotic animal
Her fans believes she's being cyber bullying but we are looking out for them.
Melissa Stevens If someone had 50 dogs or 50 cats in their house and they kept dying they’d be charged with neglect and abuse
You should make a mantis care video!!! :)
100% would watch that. Promote content from people with experience and shit, not trash bag hoarders who neglect pets after a single video
She don't have one right now
I love how you're extremely respectful you are about your opinion :)
"orchid mantis need airflow"
don't all animals need that tho? i freaked out watching her video! ;(
I’ve had my orchid mantis for about 6 months and she recently went through her last molt! She’s actually the first mantis I’ve ever kept but I made sure to read a LOT of care sheets and talk to breeders before getting one. It is obvious Taylor is clueless, my jaw dropped when I saw the heat mat on the side and the tin foil lid.. orchid mantis are extremely sensitive to mold so her keeping the enclosure wet to the point of condensation and a lid that doesn’t give circulation is actually painful to see.. over all: GREAT video! Keep teaching others about mantis, they are wonderful creatures :)
Thank you for not spreading hate, and informing people of the corrective measures and techniques when caring for an Orchid Mantis. I wish they're were more people like you.
Hate, while unnecessary, is natural towards a popular person who constantly gives misinformation
I dont keep mantis (mantises?) but a lot of the concepts you were talking about were similar to tarantulas. For airflow for particularly moist sp. I make airholes around the base of the enclosure all the way through so theres airflow running through the substrate as well as another row above the substrate near the top of the enclosure. Airflow in moist enclosures is crucial to prevent mold and stuffiness.
Also like you said insects dig down for cold so a lot of beginners end up frying their tarantulas by putting uth. Tarantulas do best in room temperature anyways so no need for a heat source.
Great video although I'm 100% against Taylor as she puts this information like this out all the time. It isnt just the mantis, it's the monitor, the kittens, and her other pets.
The plural of mantis is commonly mantids, if that helps :)
This is so unrelated but you're so beautiful. I just keep staring at your eyes. 😮😮😮
Thank you Hailey! 😊 so are you!
Yes i thinking the same!! She's gorgeous.
Kio Watanabe Thank you. 😊 Also, I don't personally own any of the animal you mentioned in the video but I watch Taylor occasionally and just recently notice there's so much drama surrounding her. A factual and objective video like this is a rare find in all of the other hate videos and I really appreciate you doing it. Hope you won't let the negativity get to you. Have an awesome day. :)
I'm from America but I still sometimes (most times) struggle with saying the right words, pronouncing them correctly, and just leaving words out.
It's crazy I was very lucky with my first lady. She lived for a little over 15 months and she was so happy. She was always out when I was home and she ate anything and everything. And I didn't follow anything TND said.
15 months is amazing! You must've been taking great care of her 😊
I wish there was a way to show you a picture on here 😔
Christine Miller if you did follow what she said it’d probably only live for less than 5 months
OMG I legit had this same response when I first watched her video. The tin foil REALLY worried me, that just seemed dangerous just from a common sense perspective. :/
Just be glad she hasn't gotten a bird
I don't know anything about Orchid Mantises, or Mantises in general. How could she get that much incorrect?
It's clear she just read off the first lengthy "fact" sheet she could find and didn't bother to cross reference.
This is abysmal.
I just found out that TND smokes heroin with her abusive boyfriend after a year of watching her! Soooo much tea is coming out ☕️🐸
Smokes heroin????????....
Yea i just watched a video about that and about how she is a hoarder, raises some points
Leolu Bert her boyfriend Jonny shoots up heroin. There have been leaked screenshots of Taylor telling her friend that they just smoke it together, they don’t inject it. As if that makes it any better 🙄 I honestly would never have guessed it 🤷🏽♀️
Yeah okay...🙄🤦🏻♀️
Jacki wydm? I didnt make this up lol
I really dislike people spreading misinformation about animal care. I’ve had a few different small fishes over 5 years and people thinking that all a fish needs is a bowl of water is mind boggling to me and it hurts me so much. They need an aquarium that’s big enough, air filter, the right type of food and I wish more people would know this but sadly most do not. I hope you will do more videos like this since I think you will reach a lot of people and expand their views. Thank you :)
THIS is good. I don´t like all the hate videos about Tayler nicole Dean. It´s good to point out the mistakes and correct them and NOT give the person hate and bully them. :) so i Love this Kio
to be honest i'm surprised you don't have more subs ! this was super informative and was a really good video
Thank you! 💚
I'm not hating on Taylor but UA-cam viewers should NOT support her channel. Because views = money to support her drug addiction and animal hoarding habit. As well as help propagate her pet care misinformation. I pray her and her boyfriend get off drugs and all her animals get wonderful, experienced homes. I wish happiness and health for all involved.
I’m sorry, *drugs?!* I must have stayed away from the channel too long; now I have to ask. Was it an accusation of drug use or a friend of some sort???
@@metademetra No, she herself admitted using drugs and relapsing. Even going so far as to say that negativity and drama online makes her want to use again. Watch different videos for yourself on the subject. There's screenshots as proof.
@@lordkrishnastolemyheart5485 This is all sounding like a rabbit hole that should be avoided. IDK what is up with her, but hopefully she rehomes her pets and uses the spare money for a therapist
I literally just watched a video on how shes an animal hoarder and doesnt know how to properly take care of animals. She buys more animals for views.
WTACH her newest vid
Oh, I actually learned a lot from this video! Didn't care about mantis before but they seem like really cool animals. Thank you!
your english is great! waterlogged is the correct word, and soggy would be a more casual term
As someone with a load of animals (3 dogs, 6 cats, 2 birds, and 2 guinea pigs), Taylor is a hoarder through and through. The definition is someone who can’t adequately care for the number of animals you own. Someone with 2 fish can be a hoarder. If ANY of my animals get sick or are injured, they see a vet, or I use the basic aid I learned in school for animals. My birds and guinea pig are given above adequate out of cage time, and their cages are twice the recommended size. They’re all fed high quality food, the dogs we had to switch because one developed pancreatitis so we had to find a food with lower than 5% crude fat.
Basically what I’m getting at is it is possible to own many animals and not be a hoarder, but Taylor IS a hoarder. She has so many dead animals on her hands as well as others that their fate is unknown, plus others that have been allegedly rehomed because she couldn’t care for them! She has *admitted* to being a hoarder, but still denies it...
I have 5 dogs, 17 cats, 1bird, 20 chickens, and 5 cows. But we can take care of them. They all get food and water and are all perfectly fine.
Taylor is one of those channels that comes up when I search for animal care and information on youtube. I really have no opinion on her other than that, but I've seen a few videos recently talking about her animal care and setup and it sounds to me like she definitely needs to downsize her animals and improve the care of the ones she has. She shouldn't be even thinking about getting new pets. Animals are a commitment. Even if an animal dies and it wasn't your fault, it was still your responsibility to care for the animal. But I just don't understand the mindset of someone who would get so many pets that they then have issue after issue of pets getting sick or dying, and they never attribute that to their care? Wouldn't you maybe think pets getting sick and dying years before their prime would be a sign of poor care?
Of course, some pets are more hands-off than others and some have easy care requirements. But I've noticed Taylor has a combination of pets which includes plenty of both hands-off (fish, spiders, snakes) and hands-on (rats, cats) pets. I don't think it's fair to the animals to take in so many, especially when some are very time-intensive animals.
These kinds of animals can't be used as a prop or decoration. Cats, dogs, birds and rats require a lot of time and, if they like you, they want to be around you and doing things with you all the time. This is in addition to the normal care you would give them (food, water, exercise, grooming etc.)
I honestly doubt Taylor has enough hours in the day, even working 24/7, that she or her friends could properly care for all the animals she currently owns. Never mind any she may get in the future.
and what’s very unfortunate is that she is spreading misinformation to her viewers who may be interested in buying a orchid mantis, and could also take terrible care of their mantis.
I’ve known about Taylor since she had like 10,000 subs. She would make care videos for animals I owned and she spread so much misinformation. I was only able to tell because I happened to have those animals, but I assumed she was incorrect about other animals as well, so I never subscribed. This video doesn’t surprise me at all, unfortunately “/
Really? Like what?
Devil’s flowers, orchids, and violins can be absolute nightmares to keep if you’re a beginner
Agreed!!
Taylor is getting DRAGGED
she's not tho. this is a very kind and respectful video by kio!
Im buying an orchid mantis and I find this really helpful!
Glad i could help!
So glad that your video was the first result when I searched for Orchis Mantis on yt :) Great starter video for me, I'm a plant lady since many year and absolutely love orchids. Having a little buddy looking like an orchid is such a dream. But I will make sure to watch ALL of your videos before I even start thinking about getting one for myself.
You've got a new subscriber :)
you deserve more subscribers so people understand the real care for animals! you’re super respectful and informative !
Thank you so much for making this video. Most people ignore whatever Taylor does because they don’t really care about the animals, especially her fish and insects, since some say that they’re “just insects”. That’s simply not true :( all animals deserve the proper love and care.
Btw, you’re absolutely beautiful!!!
Thank you! You're beautiful too 😊
Kio Watanabe Awee thanks! You’re so sweet :)
I could never keep an animal that required so much extensive and in depth care, as I work 12hr days (most days) & I'm a mother & wife. But I still find the info videos on insects so interesting! And I wanted to let you know that your video was done perfectly! And you speak English very well! ❤
Great informative video! I wish they had a longer lifespan because it would make me so sad losing an animal so quickly
I personally really love how The Dark Den is keeping his :D
Taylor Nicole Dean just created the biggest bruh moment by not putting paper at the top of the "tank" so it can't really molt
Great video! This is not hate, she just really needs to understand that an hour (tops) of Google work does not equate to the knowledge necessary to successfully keep or, far worse, teach another how to keep a living creature. I've had some my snakes for quite a while now and done mountains of research, but I would NEVER dare to make a dogmatic care video about them because I AM STILL NO EXPERT. If you ask me a question about them, I will direct you to some reliable resources on the subject to get the answer for yourself. I am just not comfortable giving that kind of advice when the smallest error could have such dramatic consequences for an animal's life. And that is just how it should be. Period.
The video you reviewed made me cringe. Thanks for correcting. You saved mantis lives
So glad I started finding videos like this so I don’t get sucked into misinformation
The state of UA-cam these days where you have to write a long disclaimer to keep Taylor Stans from coming for you, just for sharing your knowledge and trying to help keep mantids happy and healthy in captivity.
It was very respectful and educational video, thank you for your good manners and purely good intentions. I wish more people could act as nice as you. So now I'm a new subscriber, Hello fam! 💝
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel 😊
I don't even know her, but it's good to correct people when their wrong, especially if their are any lives involved. I just learned you can keep a mantis and maybe I'll try to keep one in the future!
Taylor is awful, there are plenty of videos about how she mistreats her animals and how she's a hoarder - I'd unsubscribe if I were you
I learned so much from this! Subbed.
I'm in love with ur accent, and just ur whole personality.
Thank you 😊
It was brave of you to speak up. More people should for the sake of the animals.
She was taking heroin and coke with her boyfriend. I can't imagine she really kept up on her pet care.
tea is that true
I felt like the information she was giving wasn’t correct, but I know very little about mantis. I’m glad I found this video, your information and English was so well put! Thank you.
It does take years of taking care of that particular animal/pet to have a genuine knowledge about it, not just research and googling, and definitely not just watching videos on youtube either, even though I did a lot of all of these. Anyone who takes any youtuber's words as their pet-keeping bible should really reconsider having that pet. Each animal is different and something that worked for Taylor's [insert species here] might not be true for your particular one and vice versa. Now, I'm not advocating trial and error for pet-keeping, but blindly listening to your favorite pettuber is not much different from somebody going out to buy the latest [insert brand] because you just love it so much and it probably isn't out to harm you.
I love how you tell us what's wrong...and then tell us how to do it right. And also I like how your knowledgeable in ALL the species of mantis and not just one. Your a breath of fresh air !:) Most of her critics just shout "WRONG!" Without telling us how to do it right :) thanks for that !
I appreciate that! I want to educate and not just criticize so I'm glad you see that 😊
@@KioWatanabe you are so welcome !!:) I just subscribed!!:) I don't have alot of animals but love learning about new ones people don't know much about !:) Looking forward to your videos !
Off topic but you’re so pretty and your English is great!
Thanks for this awesome video, a very constructive and non hateful video will hopefully help people see that there is a little bit of neglect going on.
Thank you!!
i’m currently prepping for my first mantis, and thank goodness i found this video, i almost got a tank with no airflow at all, that venture would’ve ended very quickly oops
(and if you’re curious, i’m getting a ghost mantis lol)
i honestly could not tell you were not a native english speaker until you pointed it out! your english is great!
so y'all are gonna throw a fit the next time soneone who doesnt know better feeds their dog chocolate and attack the person for telling a dog owner to not feed their dog chocolate because the dog owner has tons of subscribers and theyre just a hater or 🤔 like kio was super sweet abt this I don't get the comments insisting she's just bashing taylor lol
OMG, the way you talk is awesome. Great video, great attitude.
It’s awesome that you know so much about animals! But it’s also a shame that in this day and age there’s so much wrong information still out there that’s the opposite of the truth. I’m glad you make this video with the right care instructions and you were really professional when saying what she did wrong.
TND just needs to stay away from mats after what happened with her lizards
Taylor makes an awful lot of mistakes regarding the care of MANY species..
Thank you for clarifying mistakes with your knowledge in a very professional way. What bothers me is how many internet bullies there are out there. I fully support TND and her passion and love for pets. We all make mistakes when caring for our pets and as long as she tries her best and does what she loves doing, then it really shouldn’t be anyone’s place to judge her as a person. We all have our own struggles in life, and I am more concerned about her chronic illness and health. It seems as though animals are her natural medicine. For me, Aquariums and fish are my natural medicine while coping with a chronic illness. So all you internet bullies out there, let her be. She’s beautiful, has a passion for pets, and tries her best, all the while, dealing with a chronic illness. Walk a day in her shoes, then say what you have to say. Even humans can’t even take care of themselves and their own flesh and blood. EVERYONE makes mistakes. So no one has any room to talk badly about her. We are all human. If people would just support her and her passion, maybe she’d be in a better state of mind and her pets would be better taken care of. All this cyber bullying and bashing can affect someone’s mental health. Why do you think so many celebrities/very well known people end up on drugs and overdosing or suddenly fall off the face of the earth? Because people are so judgmental. I really feel for TND. And I hope that she can get thru this bullshit of thousands of people attacking her. Be kind to one another. How would you feel right now if you were in her shoes?
I feel so bad for her fans. She is someone that people enjoy watching, too bad she is always so misinformed. Taylor could do a great job if she actually did a research instead of talking about how she's a "professional".
I agree with you completely with your constructive criticism and that you are not showing hate,I’ve seen with other UA-camrs telling others that thy are bad pet owners and are almost implying for there subscribers to “hate” on there videos then proceed to say “well you shouldn’t have got a pet”and “you messed with the wrong community”.thank you for handling the situation how you did
ILY! You really got what I was saying :)
What a shame that misinformed ppl make videos like that. Very reckless, I hope she corrected her video & took down the wrong one...
I’m soo mad I’ve watch Taylor’s videos and she spreads soo much information. Thank you for clearing it up.
I just wanna point out if anyone wants to get a new pet, it’s very important to not go to one pet care video. Watch multiple and get perspectives of how each person takes care of them and all
Imagine how many mantids died not only from her care but her teaching
How can people continue to support Taylor Nicole Dean? She’s a god awful woman, who couldn’t care less about her pets. And I’m praying that at least one of her pets will make it out alive, because at this rate, it’s really not looking good. Oh, and for all of you clueless 10 year olds who still stand by her side, you’re supporting a drug abuser who does heroin around her animals and who’s dating a rapist who makes jokes about flushing cats down the toilet. Several of her animals have died in the span of 2 months. Sure, you’re bound to make mistakes when you own exotic animals. But that many in that amount of time? That’s an unhealthy pattern, and somethings obviously seriously wrong. Before you decide to watch her next video of abuse, think about everything I’ve just said. That’s not even half of the issues surrounding her at the moment, and it only gets worse.
Pet lovers should learn it is about the QUALITY of love you give to your pets... not the QUANTITY that you own. Own only as much as you can give QUALITY care and attention. Everyone has different amounts of availability and different lifestyles, so yes... some people can handle having several types of pets. But again, if you don't have the health and the available time? You shouldn't have them. If you have pets dying because of mistakes you're making? You need to scale back and re-evaluate. And frankly? You should think about the lifespan of your pet before taking one on. If you intend to, say, have a baby in the next 15 years... are you buying a dog or cat that will be good with pets? Or is the exotic you're purchasing going to be too much along with a child? Just an example. Pets should be a LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT. You don't "rehouse" your children because you can't have them at an apartment you want to move to... or because your partner is allergic... or they get too big to handle. Pets should be the same way. Period. I don't support most PetTubers because many seem more like pet hoarders masking emotional issues with pet love rather than legitimate knowledgeable and responsible pet owners. Its a shame so many novice pet-lovers see these troubled individuals as giving good advice. Just think of the number of animals harmed by the gross misinformation! Awful. Thank you for shining light on the misinformation, Kio. ♥
I just unsubscribed from her channel. I love her but I can't keep watching her kill her pets like that. I especially can't stay knowing that she's with an abusive asshole who threatened to burn one of her kittens alive.
I know this is almost two years ago but Thank you ! I've found myself obsessing over the orchid Mantis lately & really want one. Now trying to educate myself on them, this is so needed ! & watching your other video, You've convinced me to definitely not getting an Orchid First, still deciding which is best for me to start with ♡
Thank you, good luck with your little one 😊
Very respectable video and thank you for sharing 🙂
Well maybe this explains why egg died a few weeks ago
I don't mean to criticize but a quick Google search of Orchid mantis brings up several pictures of purple ones. One thing to keep in mind is that everyone's perception of what purple is is different. Personally looking at your orchid mantis in it's pink phase looks more purple to me. It doesn't mean anyone is wrong but lighting, camera angle and the eye's perception of color can make some colors indistinguishable
Probably faked or rare idk
Yasmin Smith definitely depends on point of view, when I Google purple orchid mantis I see pink ones come up, everyone sees differently it's pretty trippy
A lot of pictures of those are edited. Trust
Didn't see even a single purple one.
Oh God this is turning into the blue/white dress or laurel and yanny.
Correction: some Orchid mantis can get from pink to a purple-ish tone. So that's probably why Taylor thought they can be purple aswell. They aren't exactly purple, but some can get to a very similar coloration, i don't know exactly how often, but i have seen one that looked very purple-ish.
(idk why that matters anyway, i mean it's just the coloration, that doesn't change the needed care, but uh...Ok?)
Unsubbed from TND, subbed to you instead! You’re so much more informed.
But some of her points weren’t good
Now the whole they go forwards to get cooler and upwards to get warmer makes sense but it’s really not making a difference unless it’s a vivarium also a lot of that depends on whether they are mostly terrestrial or arboreal in the wild then will still go to get shade on the ground if it’s cooler here they aren’t dumb
Don’t all her animals die
No
