Hey, great video! Sucks they are so hard to get. Often people who are new to the hobby snatch them before breeders, like me, can get to them. Because of this the US hobby is slowly losing them which sucks.
@@ericvandenavond8748 I’m getting mine at a local shop that sells reptiles and bugs and so I want to get my orchid mantis from there because it’s a trusted place :)
You haven’t uploaded in 2 years but I hope you are doing well ! I only recently found your channel and have been watching all your videos and you are such a kind person 🥺 I hope all is well for you
ive seen one of your videos from 3 years ago possibly about the time it was uploaded, but ive only recently been really into mantis care vids and now i'm watching all of yours. i see you've still replied to comments somewhat recently and i think thats awesome 💫💫 even if youre not uploading anymore (which i would happily give you a super warm Welcome Back if you did! but i understand if not) its cool to see you checking up now and again💖
That's such a sweet comment, I really appreciate it! I do plan on coming back eventually but currently is just not the right time for me, life can get stressful but comments like yours are what make me come back to at least read them! 💕
I love your videos, please keep posting :) I'm getting my egg case in soon! I'm very excited. I'm only keeping 2 (separate enclosures) and releasing the rest in my garden
I’m new to keeping orchid mantids, i have all sorts of other bugs but I got lucky enough and managed to get one. When it comes to spraying the mantis nymph/adult will it harm them if they get sprayed with water or is it better to just spray the sides of the enclosure?
Why did you stop posting content? (not that it's any of my business) I loved watching your content, especially your mantis content. Do you plan on ever posting again? If you don't that's okay :)
Nice video thank you for providing good advice! I would love to eventually care for an orchid mantid as I never had one before, their vibrant colors especially on the legs are really interesting. For now I found a native species in my location. I believe it is a nymph male stagmomantis californica, but I'm not certain yet. I found him on my patio and I decided it would be a perfect beginner species to learn with. I made a large mason. Jar enclosure with garden mesh screening on the lid, and he adjusted to it quickly. Eventually when I gain experience with them, I plan to raise orchid or even ghost mantids, hopefully as a rewarding challenge.
Hello! I have always liked praying mantis. Recently though I am considering keeping them as pets, looking at different species and care advice. Thank you for an informative video! What types of plants (or vegetation in general) are good for a mantis enclosure?
Good luck with your future mantis! :) it totally depends on the species but generally I personally prefer plastic plants as it's quite difficult to keep a plant healthy in such a small environment but definitely admire people that do!
Beautiful mantis and beautiful you 😛. When I was young we used to call it kungfu master 😁 and believed that Bruce lee learned kungfu from the mantis 😅😅😬..
I was then going to say crickets are not the problem, it's that when you buy them from the pet shop they're hungry, no food in them, no nutrients in them, that is the problem. I feed mostly locust. What was interesting though was my devil's flower mantis, my favourite species, I won't have an other because they were just too difficult to feed. If it doesn't fly they don't take it, you can usually find wax worms ready that are already pupating in pets at home, but they only last 2 days after hatching, and hatching maggots is too irritatating for me just because the flies don't last in tubs, so you have to start new maggots every few days, and you get escaped flies, which last months somehow... I don't want flies flying around in my house basically, and I can't keep them alive as adults.
No i dont think they'd do that either but it is their natural instinct to seek higher ground to get warmer. It's about keeping your insect as true to its nature as possible
You should get a Devil's flower mantis (Idolomantis diabolica), I kept some in the past, only a few made it to adulthood and they are considered expert level mantis but you should be able to do it.
@@KioWatanabe idk if I’m lucky but I started with a ghost mantis and a devil’s flower mantis and my devil is on her 5-6 molt soon. Hopefully she will make it to adulthood

@@KioWatanabe at the moment I’m seeing what foods would be best, I plan to get flightless fruit flies, but I’m afraid I can’t go any bigger on fly size. My mom is terrified of bugs, I’m very lucky to be able to get a mantis; Im getting a green ghost mantis to blend in. Am I allowed to feed them wild moths or flies that get stuck in my house? Just bought one today in a utah pet store! They did ask me about breeding it to make sure the hobby stays alive.
I just googled and saw one for £29 in the Uk

Most insects look gross, creepy, dirty, but mantises are so cool. I want one
get one man! theyre easy to care for and super interesting!
I highly discourage getting one unless it's from a trusted breeder.
I strongly agree. When I look at other insects I gag, but mantises look so elegant and beautiful

Won't the mantis/insect be able to adapt to wherever the heat source is? I wouldn't imagine a mantis would move toward a heat pad and cook itself.

you have to get a thermometer and test out different distances of any heat lamp for which gives you the best inside temp

i want a ghost mantis, i am setting up the enclosure today, and I was wondering if ghost mantis fly?
It could, but they dont do very much as they are not a very skittish species
what is the best way to control the humidty? What sort of device would you recommend?
How much do i have to feed them?
Can i feed them spiders?
How many times a week do you feed them ?
It depends. I'd say usually every other day!

where do you find breeders for orchids?!
Just bought one its my first mantis wish me luck!
But where do you buy them?
I have exo terra nano tank is that ok I have the small
How did you buy the mantises?
My question is don’t the nymphs need more moisture for molting than adults do?
You want there enclosure to be dryer as it makes it easier for them to molt
Where do you order them
Do you like spiders too or only ohrid mantis ?
I love tarantulas!
Nice. Where you from. I have a fresh hatch :)
