    Can you expand upon the idea with how to mix textures?

    Matching pattern is like next level stylings for me. I stick to one pattern and one solid. I will take a look at what I have pattern wise and see if I feel confident in matching them because the outfits you showed looked really good.

    I never really understood the 'rules' of mixing patterns until this video! I love pattern would see outfits with mixed patterns that looked so good but I couldn't figure out how to do it on my own and make it look right. Thank you so much for this video and all the others you make. They are great information.

    I have a lot of patterned scarves/hijabs, and I sometimes get stuck on how to incorporate them with my wardrobe, particularly with tweeds, patterned silk shirts, houndstooth jackets etc. This video is great, so thank you for the tips!

      @Fadhillah Norzahari - Any secret tips you care to share? I’m having a challenge matching scarves to outfits myself at the moment. Too many times I’m relegated to using a solid shirt/dress/jacket and then a pattern scarf. Or, pattern on the clothing and solid on the scarf. The mixing and blending of pattern with pattern is a bit intimidating and I don’t want to do it wrong.

    I love striped 70's wide palazzo pants and floral flared pants but I always go safe and simple with simple white, black or beige on top. However I would like to style them in a much nicer way, so matching patterns with patterns and textures is indeed tricky but lovely to accomplish!!!! 😍😍😍 As always this video was indeed super informative and interesting!!!

    Patterns! One of my favorite topics--thanks, Daria! I have a vintage blazer with a small check pattern in multiple colors that reads as grey from a distance. It can match with a wide array of patterns (organic or geometric) as long as one of the colors in the blazer matches the dominant color in the paired pattern.

    Very helpful! Thank you, Daria! Another way to see if a prospective addition to our wardrobes is worthy of purchase is to find items that are similar to pieces we already own at the store. Trying on that printed top with a bottom in a solid colored bottom (or printed bottom) we already have can really help us assess if the new item has earned a place in our Wonder Wardrobe.

    Like mixing patterns very much. Especially, stripes and polka dot. I think it brings more strength to the look. But it could be risky as well. You have to be bold in some way to mix such patterns cause they do attract a lot of attention.

    • @abigaelmacritchie1365
      @abigaelmacritchie1365 5 років тому

      I totally live to do that too! I think it works because both can have a sort of retro French style vibe (Brigitte Bardot). For example, a black and white polka dot voluminous midi skirt would mix really well with a simple Breton stripe top.
      I love to mix tartan and leopard too, but I think Daria might disagree with that combo 😂 I do that with my favourite midi Scottish kilt and a pair of leopard pumps. I always get compliments with that look!

    My struggle with prints is that I tend to wear them as statement pieces. Then, when I wear them again I feel like I've worn the same outfit recently and it feels awkward. I don't have this struggle with solids (unless they are very bold/unusual colors).

    Love this type of video 😍. Thank You Daria!
    When mixing patterns I find it difficult to understand if the focus always lays on the pattern itself, or if the type of fabric deserves more focus. Should I only mix a patterned wool with another knitted fabric with a pattern? Or can I mix a patterned silk fabric with a more chunky fabric as long as the patterns match?

    • @annarehbinder7540
      @annarehbinder7540 5 років тому +1

      Eli the Owl the latter , its actually more pleasant to the eye , you can also use a pattern and corderoy or velvet or something fluffy or silk in a pattern but in a solid color

    • @masha7377
      @masha7377 5 років тому

      I think you should either go for a bold pattern mix or a bold fabric mix, not both. By bold I mean two fabrics that really stand out like a very fluffy Mohair jumper or something glittery. Silk, cotton, jean fabric, simple wool are all so plain you can mix and match with anything I think :)

    I love all classical patterns: herringbone, plaids, argyle, houndstooth, polka dots. However, combining them is not my strongest point. So I basically just use one patterned piece and go with monochromatic for the rest. I don’t know why I feel like these patterns are strong enough on their own and don’t really combine well among themselves.

    Love this video. I actually cheat. I am drawn to pieces that have a mixed print built in....a jacket that is a patchwork of different patterns, but united with a similar background (base). Or a black and white polka dot skirt with panels of medium alternating with smaller black polka dots on a white base. I can add a black sweater or red...or yellow....

    Those pattern classifications opened my eyes to a whole new dimension of mixing. Thank you! What I struggle with: African prints. I adore them, but cannot see a skirt matched with a patterned top. The print is large (the size of hand), colorful (brown-blue-sharp yellow-white) and has angles as well as round shapes. According to your mixing advice I should pair it with a medium size print. Which might leave the garments wear me, if you know what I mean? (My face would be all but invisible, everyone would see the prints first, not me.) Do you have any advice?

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 5 років тому

      Laine Laine--when I wear a pattern that has very strong cultural significance, I pair it with solids and let it be the absolute star of the look. To me, it feels more meaningful that way. Generic dots, flowers, and stripes I feel free to mix together, but the ethnic pieces I surround in "colorful plainness" so they are elevated to their rightful historic importance. I'm also careful to not combine prints or jewelry from 2 different groups or cultures in one outfit. I know designers do it all the time, but to me, it screams of carelessness and lack of knowledge. (But...to each his/her own. This is just how I do it.)

    Hello Daria! I have a question on how you edit your videos, specifically how you edit the clothing pieces so that you can manipulate and them and essentially play a "paper doll" game with mixing and matching them! I would appreciate your knowledge on this because I am currently trying to outfit plan for an upcoming trip and being able to see how many combinations i can make with the clothing pieces I have would be very beneficial! Thank you so much!

    • @wonderwardrobe
      @wonderwardrobe  5 років тому

      My process consists of 2 steps, first I find all the pieces I want to include in the capsule using the Wonder wardrobe method and than I save photos of them and use Photoshop to edit them into a visual guide. So before I start editing I already know what and how many outfits I have. To be honest It took me years of practice with graphic editing softwares to make these kind of paper doll style outfits...
