My name is Aleks and in this video I unbox and review my latest watch purchase.
I've had an on and off relationship with Panerai for many years now. Last time I had one in the collection was back in 2018 actually.
I had the need for a dive watch that was suited for some summer and vacation activities and with my old Panerai Submersible 682 in "fresh" memory (I had it back in 2017) the updated 683 felt like a good choice.
So in this video I unbox the watch and give you my take on what I like and don't like about it. I also compare it to it's predecessor the PAM00682 and I'll also give you the reason why this one maybe even won't make it to the vacation...

I also agree re in house vs generic movement. I love panerais for the look and the style; not fussed at all about the movement

Congrats on the purchase! I love my 683 too! the size is perfect even on my 18cm wrist. Fits well not bulk and the looks of it keeps me going!!

@@AleksWatches I wore 47 > 44 and now 42... I'm sticking to 42mm. Though many would differ with my opinion...
I wish I could pull off 44 or 47 because some of the best looking models come in those sizes..

Would love to see the white dial with the black ceramic bezel, that would just kill it!
Thanks Peter! Maybe, I think I would prefer it with the steel bezel but maybe not too shabby with ceramic insert 🤔
So I was going to go with the white dial as I think it looks great on the olive green strap. Then I saw the black dial full steel bezel version which offers a more robust tool vibe, almost like the panerais of old. And it looks great with the green also. So I think my decision is made !

I 100% Agree, I compared my Panerai 42mm Carbotech submersible next to a Rolex Submariner Hulk over four weeks , and the contest wasn’t even close. My Panerai PAM 960 Had much more spunk, character and pop, it wasn’t even a close contest. The bezel on the Panerai was far more assuring too. If you’re willing to step away from the Rolex fanboy hype, there is an entirely brave new world out there that delivers. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is also high on my list too. Stay thirsty my friends.
Fifty Fathoms is cool! So is the Carbotech Sub.

Funny, I am buying them in reverse order. I just got the PAM 1223 last week, on the white strap plus the black rubber. Agree great summer watch, ordered from Horus a yellow, Tiffany blue and olive green rubber strap. Next, the PAM 683, I will pick up for the fall. Both great looking and a very comfortably wearable size. At this point I have traded out of my 44 mm’s Panerai’s and am staying with 42’s. Recently also bought the PAM 1535, a beautiful Luminor. Enjoy Italy!
Haha great minds! 🙏🏼 enjoy the watches and I believe 42mm will be more and more accepted even amongst the hardcore Paneristi. Many people downsizing nowadays.
@@AleksWatches Update,- spoke to my dealer regarding sourcing the PAM 683 for me, found out Panerai has stopped it's production and has introduced its successor the PAM 1683. "Reference 1683 takes over from the 683 with an updated movement...still self-winding with 3 days power reserve." The watch is only out in the European market and not available yet in the states.

Inget stort fan av Panerai, dock så måste jag säga att denna modellen va intressant och den passar dig sjukt bra. Det jag gillade mest med just denna modellen är den keramiska bezeln och att den är svart vilket får klockan att kännas mindre.
Faktiskt många som känner som dig när det kommer till denna, tror den tilltalar rätt många generellt. Däribland mig hehe

good choice ! I own two Panerai in my collection, one Submersible and one Luminor. I do think everyone men need to have one Panerai in their collection. Panerai design is just so unique and so gorgeous.

Thanks for the is video, you increase my interest for this model as a dive watch in my colection. Do you know if Panerai offers a blue rubber bracelet that matches whith the blue letters from the dial ?
Thanks for watching! Several different colors are available for the strap, I think they all are listed on Panerais homepage
White dial is the better choice, I think, because it matches well with pretty much any strap color.
The black/blue Carbotech has really caught my eye. Sadly, my bank balance will not allow it 😂

Does the 42mm wear big? I typically like a bigger looking watch. I.e does it look bigger than other 42mm watches like maybe the Submariner/sea dweller (43mm)
Around the same I’d say top of mind. But no, if you like larger I’d take the 44mm PAM

From watching several vids on this watch, I gathered Panerai’s P900 movement is a “cheap” movement (not a high quality movement) and finished poorly for the money. Also, according to Hafiz’s channel, Panerai’s QC is awful. Can someone chime in on this?

The watch is fine, but the strap lets it down .... Too overbearing .... Look at an AP, VC or PP watch and strap together .... Both the strap and watch are well balanced ....

@@AleksWatches thanks Alex. I have a steel daily piece (santos medium) so for my 'technical/statement' piece was looking at pam carbo tech or the hublot unico 42m black magic. Hublot is lovely but I think has potential to become dated quickly. Carbo tech- unsure on how this holds up over the long term

hey guys, felt compelled to weigh in (respectfully of course)…weird, but for me Panerai is the luxury brand I respond to with more of an emotional connection and less of a value retention disposition.
The ‘timeless’ crown guard patented design just speaks to me. And, they’ve got the brand history to support (of course a little added cachet from Rolex & Arnie didn’t hurt).
I think timeless design NEVER ‘dies’ and the brand is farrrrrrr from dead my friend.
Well put! I agree with you. For me Panerai always was appealing for the looks. Not for the movements etc. And now they are in one controversy after another when it comes to that.
Not dead, just don’t purchase it at retail price. I bought mine 2nd hand at $6000 USD way below retail.

I really wish they’d put a full size second hand on this watch. I can’t stand the small second hand / subdial. It renders the second hand useless for actually timing anything.
Not really in their DNA to use central seconds hands
