For Italian people this is an anthem of the first months of lockdown. We used to sing or play it on balconies, over the silent city. Diodato sang it alone in an empty stadium on live tv. The crowd singing along here gives it closure. It's almost over. We went through the bad times together and we survived. This is what that moment meant to every Italian present and watching.

Doppie sillabe e il fatto che la maggiorparte delle parole termina con una vocale . Sono queste le 2 caratteristiche principali che alle orecchie di chi non e' madrelingua fa percepire il suono delicato e fluido. Per questo motivo e' una lingua perfetta per il canto e la musica in generale . Poi ci sarebbe anche un discorso di toni. Noi non ci facciamo caso,ma spesso cambiamo il senso o il significato di una frase a seconda del tono con cui la pronunciamo,e questo a livello musicale e' un aspetto quasi unico. Insomma,per farla breve ,uno straniero ha spesso la sensazione di canto anche sentendoci solo parlare .

I went to bed, turned on the TV to see the results of the first half final and this blew me away. Just stopped talking to my girlfriend mid-conversation. Speechless. Possibly the best performance I've ever seen on any Eurovision.

I'm learning Italian and understood only about 80% of the lyrics on my first listen, but that's what it reminded me of... The silence during lockdown and the distance between people. I was moved to tears when they all stood so close together in the end, to me it symbolized that we can finally be close to each other again and no longer have to live in forced isolation ❤

What an amazing tribute for these dark times, for all the people who struggled with this horrible disease and with solitude of lockdown. This will become an iconic Eurovision moment.
When he performed this at Arena di Verona, which is pretty close to where I live, Italy was in lockdown. Watching him performing all alone in that Amphitheatre, that square I know so well, was moving. It gets me emotional even write about it. At the end of an astonishing performance nobody was there to applaude. I did love it back in 2020 and saw it as a strong contestant for the win, i was sooo disappointed esc hadn’t happened. So i was equally happy to see him on stage the other night. And what a staging, it was a masterpiece. I thought of those walking by in the spotlight as all those souls who departed and thought of a friend innItaly who passed away, i was tearing up. If a performance can bring this out from you i cant thing of a better validation.
Hearing this song last night moved me to tears. Today is exactly 9 months since my boyfriend, Angelo, passed away. He listened to this song and to Che vita meravigliosa countless times throughout his illness last year. Thank you Diodato for your amazing voice and your wonderful songs.

Diodato can't possibly know how much this song saved my life. During that spring 2020 my life just got worse. I always had anxiety but that year just made it even worse. With corona closing everything down and reading all the terrible news about how many died each day my anxiety just got worse and worse and I felt no joy in anything. It was really rock bottom But then this song was released and it hit me more than any other song ever hit me. I cried rivers after listening to it. But it was also then that I realised that I want to live and feel joy again and got the help I needed. So thanks Diodato and Italy for this masterpiece:🇮🇹

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I think that the dancers touching, leaning into each other and hugging is a metaphor. I mean, there's a reason why Italians were singing this song from their balconies during quarantine... it's about overcoming silence and distance, and it first became popular in a moment when we were all alone in our homes, the streets were deserted, and the death toll was getting higher and higher every day. And still, in order to protect ourselves, we had to stop doing one of the very things that make us human: comfort each other through physical touch. We needed the hope that this song talks about. And now, now that things are getting better, going back to hugging the people you love feels like a blessing. So maybe that's what they're trying to represent here.
Can we all agree that this is what every host country should do from now on? Just call up whoever was your 2020 artist and let them perform as an interval act. And if a country wins again in the meantime, they have to pick one of the remaining 2020 artists. Just like that, in 41 years, everyone of the 2020 artists will finally have gotten to perform! 😁

You have no idea what this song means for us Italians, he sang it alone in a completely empty Verona Arena while outside everything was falling apart due to the pandemic, in one way or another this song will go down in history and it is right that even everyone else knows what it means to us

I'm learning Italian and understood only about 80% of the lyrics on my first listen, but that's what it reminded me of... The silence during lockdown and the distance between people. I was in the audience here and everyone was totally blown away. People in tears, everyone singing alone. Not a single person wasn't touched by his performance. Wish they gave him the respect of a Grand Ginal interval act spot, but in saying that, he would have put a lot of the GF participants to shame haha.

Watching him performing all alone in that Amphitheatre, that square I know so well, was moving. It gets me emotional even write about it. At the end of an astonishing performance nobody was there to applaude. I did love it back in 2020 and saw it as a strong contestant for the win, i was sooo disappointed esc hadn’t happened. So i was equally happy to see him on stage the other night. And what a staging, it was a masterpiece. I thought of those walking by in the spotlight as all those souls who departed and thought of a friend innItaly who passed away, i was tearing up. If a performance can bring this out from you i cant thing of a better validation.
Hearing this song last night moved me to tears. Today is exactly 9 months since my boyfriend, Angelo, passed away. He listened to this song and to Che vita meravigliosa countless times throughout his illness last year. Thank you Diodato for your amazing voice and your wonderful songs.

That's actually ridiculos that the best performance, the best song on the stage of ESC2022 was not contesting. Such an incredible song and the singer as well. Just a mindblowing
Diodato can't possibly know how much this song saved my life. During that spring 2020 my life just got worse. I always had anxiety but that year just made it even worse. With corona closing everything down and reading all the terrible news about how many died each day my anxiety just got worse and worse and I felt no joy in anything. It was really rock bottom
But then this song was released and it hit me more than any other song ever hit me. I cried rivers after listening to it. But it was also then that I realised that I want to live and feel joy again and got the help I needed.
So thanks Diodato and Italy for this masterpiece:🇮🇹

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I think that the dancers touching, leaning into each other and hugging is a metaphor. I mean, there's a reason why Italians were singing this song from their balconies during quarantine... it's about overcoming silence and distance, and it first became popular in a moment when we were all alone in our homes, the streets were deserted, and the death toll was getting higher and higher every day. And still, in order to protect ourselves, we had to stop doing one of the very things that make us human: comfort each other through physical touch. We needed the hope that this song talks about. And now, now that things are getting better, going back to hugging the people you love feels like a blessing. So maybe that's what they're trying to represent here.
