“I can’t stand this unnatural silence” sang in Italy’s most famous arena during the pandemic. So fucking powerful.
poetic
Surely the colosseum is the most famous?
@@KeepAnEyeOnDan The Arena di Verona is still used for concerts, unlike the Colosseo
During the chorus Diodato sings “I can’t stand this unnatural silence” which I think it’s even more impactful because it’s a empty Arena
Ciao, Linda, Italia. Just remember, Eurovision is only a thing because people took inspiration from the Italian music festival Sanremo.
Yes, you read that right, Italy’s Eurovision ticket predated Eurovision. When people go to sing in Sanremo, the goal isn’t to get to Eurovision, the goal is to win Sanremo.

Avremmo vinto quest'anno! See?, it was just him and the microphone, no big production, and he still Veni, vidi, vici.... No other people exudes class and elegance like Italians, they just have it in them.
Indeed! I’m really curious about how a possible Eurovision show from Italy could be handled! Personally I was counting on Arena di Verona, as well as (going on with a bit of fantasy) Coliseum, Venezia Lagoon, Bay of Sorrento, a Sicilian Greek amphitheater Those would be great natural scenographies that would perfectly fulfill the Italian stile in shoes and events, maybe with a live orchestra too! But neither of the two things can be done according to the rules of Ebu, if I’m not wrong! Anyway I wait the day when we will win this contest

I cannot stop listening to this song since the INCREDIBLE performance during semi-finals. This should have been featured in the grand final. I was BLOWN AWAY.
And if you think this performance in the empty Verona Arena was staged exactly because of the pandemic, to represent the emptiness between all of us, compared to the semi-finals one full of people hugging each other, it's even more chilling
grand final will feature Maneskin that's why. And semi 2 has Il Volo and Mika-Laura duet
that video is impressive, emptiness, pieces of unfinished stage around, I wish I see this earlier! I knew the song, but never saw the video! I wish to speak Italian to understand the message. It sounds powerful.
@@jonaszjonek295 it's about losing contact with someone, like an ending love or friendship. The singer misses the noise ("rumore" in Italian) of the other person, and sings about the unnatural silence and distance between them.
So, although it's more of a love song, it became perfect to describe the quarantine isolation during the pandemic.
Listening to the song in 2020 it really did nothing for me. But goddamn ever since hearing an arena full of Italians sing the chorus I've been fucking obsessed. Blown away is right

The real reason why the competition this year was canceled is that Diodato didn't want to shorten this masterpiece to 3 minutes.

This is why italian people sang this song in their balconies. Because italians are loud in a positive way. With music they connect each other and express themselves giving strength in this way even during hard times. What a beautiful country 🇮🇹

IMHO, most of my-41-top ratings are made by ESC addicts with such a narrow mindset about European music that anything getting even slightly beyond the beat-pop-like pattern makes them panic. Già, canzone all'italiana viene definitivo un difetto.
Italy robbed of victory yet again! I hope you get to win soon, love from 🇬🇧
♥️ 😃
Italy 12 points from Germany with love.
I can not believe that a German gives 12 points to Italy .. you always vote in block eachother with Austria, France and Holland to not make win certain countries like Spain or Italy.. even if you repeat this 1000 times I'll not believe it. Anyway thanks
There is no dispute. This is HANDS down the best Euro vision Song of 2020 and one of the greatest of all time. It's utterly STUNNING. 12 points from 🇮🇪 to beautiful 🇮🇹
💖
❤️
I almost cried when I saw the Arena di Verona empty... Especially at the end of the song, that there was no applause. Be strong, hugs from Greece ❤️🇬🇷
❤❤
Diodato comes from Taranto one of the first cities founded by our brothers Greeks in SOUTH-ITALY 800 years A. C. It is a city oldier than Rome.,In this song is clearly visible the great greek sensibility .. Greetings from NEA POLIS namely NAPOLI
🇮🇹❤️🇬🇷
This is why Francesco Gabbani was so proud to have lost Sanremo to him. The hug he gave him, he was just like a proud dad, he won second place and at first I thought he should've been first again but the more I listen to Diodato the more it sinks in, he earned it.
Same. I was disappointed when Gabbani didn't win 'cause I was rooting for him. I didn't even like this song aside from the chorus. But the more I listen to it, the harder I fall for the whole song. Add to that how good he sings live. This is such a winning song and performance. This is my winner of ESC 2020. 💖
Same for me. There were other songs at Sanremo 2020 that I liked more, but every time I hear this, it's more powerful. Hearing this from the empty Arena di Verona, from my father's hometown, makes it me poignant. Love it!
I wasn't aware that the Sanremo Festival is known this much in the rest of the world, here in Italy is like you have to watch it even if you don't like it ahah
"Like a proud dad"
Gabbani is 37, Diodato is 38.
@@qcchddt5483 I am from the Balkans and Sanremo is a very good festival to be honest, for the first time this year I watched it (not entirely as I worked some nights) and I liked it a lot.
He would’ve won for Italy, 100%! That song is so powerful and his voice is phenomenal💚🤍❤️
Italy has been robbed of victory many times, but I just know this year would have been theirs ❤❤ Love from France 🇫🇷
Mercì ❤
estern europe, Spain and Malta...it wouldnt be enough..a lot of strong songs this Years...anyway fantastic Song, makes my almost cry every time...wir derper meaning..
This song is very powerful. Such a shame we didn’t get to see it at ESC
Couldn't Agree More! Such A Powerful Song!
Shame to Coronavirus. This stays #1 in my @spotify playlist until Covid left the earth.
We didn't get to see his song but Italy won last yr
In the end we did see it at ESC in 2022
For me, the best Eurovision performance EVER.
This song but specially this performance always makes me cry! I wish he could've won last years contest. This song will be remembered for years...
Tom Leeb: There is no better place than the Eiffel Tower to produce a music video.
Diodato: Hold my amphitheater !
XD XD XD
I always wondered why the French have based all their symbolic potential on that tower in such an exclusive and obsessive way... And we all know that it is far from being the only attraction they have…
Bah..

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I think I fell in love with you 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Why use any chunch of metal when we can refer to ancient , precious stones, that can still speak to us after so many century?

Una faccia, una razza.

It's really funny because the video of the song takes place in a city called Verona and our football team is called Hellas !!! along with Spain, Greece is the other country where I would live ..😍😍😍
Efharisto from Italy 🇬🇷🇮🇹❤
Why is every Italian Singer so good at singing.
i dont have the answer :)
watch again if you feel like, Mengoni's performance in 2013
simply because if you want to be a singer in italy you have to be able to sing these larger than life melodies that are part of our heritage. It's like r&b music, not all people can sing it.
goosebumps. beautiful language, beautiful choreography, beautiful evening, nothing to add, Italian quality
Ladies and gentlemen, please stand up for the Eurovision Song Contest anthem.

There ain't much things as European identity as the Song Contest. Its roots showed its impact especially this year!
Hello, mau ikut grup Eurovision Indonesia (LINE app)? Trims
For the Pandemy Anthem.
This would have been a moment, could have won the whole entire thing, Italy once again a God tier eurovision country
Probably the most beautiful song ever for Eurovision. This is stunning!
Absolutely insane. What a singer. This guy would've won euro 2020.
And then RAI, the italian public broadcaster, usually slow and sleepy with everything concerning Eurovision Song Contest, has a fantastic idea and creates this awesome performance, even spending some money for it, while other countries (except Germany), just sent the standard videoclip or national selection performance. I don't know which male or female manager of RAI got this idea, but I pay my tribute to him. This performance will be remembered for a long time.
Grazie mamma RAI.
Concordo
@@passioneblu_1325 Perchè Diodato non puo tornare all'Eurovision l'anno prossimo ?
Still have chills .I know no Italian but I didnt need to .I felt the power of his singing from an empty stadium through a computer screen . Incredible
I agree with you. it is not a stadium but a 2000 years old Arena in Verona built by ancient Romans. A stunning place transformed into an opera theatre. Maria Callas had her debut here :)
Italy is my winner 5 times in a raw, with 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018
All the Italians remember watching this performance in our historic Arena in Verona, known for special concerts and music events, built in ancient Roman Empire. A very touching performance in an empty Arena, while we were all in lockdown during covid with a song that says “You make noise... can’t stand this unnatural silence between you and me”, I’ll always remember that night during such a difficult time for our country and the whole world. Love to all the world from Italy. 💚🤍❤️
This is my Eurovision 2020 winner. Just wow, Italy.
See you next year italy!
You are gorgeous🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Lots of love from turkey🇹🇷❤️🇪🇺❤️🇮🇹

This song has to be as an interval act in Eurovision next year. It was a winner, all we know it.
Will be..
IT WILL BE! HE'S COMIN' TO THE 1ST SEMIFINAL!!!
My dream for 2022: Opening with a compilation of previous Italian contestants including Il Volo, Mahmood and ending with Måneskin. Interval act before the results: Whole performance of Fai Rumore 🙏🏼
+Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro
I think we need the Sanremo version (symphonic version) of Zitti e buoni too! That would sound amazing during the opening ceremony.
I’d love that
Mahmood and maneskin will be there for sure😁
I think you'll get to see Mahmood as a participant
Diodato is my winner. 12 points from Spain 🇮🇹🇪🇸❤️

"Do you know what I think? That I shouldn't be thinking
That if I then think, I'm an animal
And if I think about you, you're a soul
But maybe it's this storm that takes me to you
And I know I shouldn't find myself
Without an umbrella, even though
I understood that
However much I run away
I always return to you
Who makes noise here
And I don't know if it's good for me
If your noise fits me
But make noise, yes
Because I can't stand
This unnatural silence
Between you and me
And I go around without speaking
Without a destination to arrive to
I'm wearing down my shoes and perhaps my shoes
Know all too well where to go
That I find myself in the same places again
Exactly those places that I should have avoided
And I pretend I don't remember
And I pretend to forget
But I understand that
However much I run away
I always return to you
Who makes noise here
And I don't know if it's good for me
If your noise fits me
But make noise, yes
Because I can't stand
This unnatural silence
Between you and me
But make noise, yes
Because I can't stand
This unnatural silence
And now I don't want to do without
This beautiful noise you make"

Here after tonight's semi final. I loved this song in 2020 but after seeing it tonight I'm absolutely blown away by it. Just such a beautiful song ❤

It really is one of the best Eurovision entries ever
It will happen! It's official!

Even if other european songs were good in the recent years, many italian songs were the best but didn't win.
But that's just my opinion. Grazie fratello

This was probably the biggest performances ever in Eurovision. The symbology of the song, in the year 2020, with an empty coliseum... stunning! Congrats Italy for such beautiful moment... PT and IT together :)
You're absolutely right!
Just a little correction, that is not the Colosseum, but Arena di Verona
@@marcoalleruzzo3045 actually a coliseum is a roman construction and the coliseum in Roma is not called coliseum but everyone calls it like that cuz it’s simple 😌
@@meryella4629 i actually thought that the first user misspelled "Colosseum", but I found out that it is called "coliseum" too.
But it is not a generic roman construction. In ancient Rome it was called "anfiteatro Flavio" (well this is italian, very similar in latin) literally meaning double theater (so not as the greek one that is only 180 degrees) and Flavio After the emperor ruling in those years.
It was called Colosseum only in Middle age because it was pretty huge compared to the small buildings nearby.
And Colosseum derives from latin and it means something like "huge" or "colossal" (?).
@@meryella4629 so the generic term for the roman construction is "amphitheatrum", while there is only one Colosseum that is the famous one in Rome even though it shouldn't be called like that.
Arena di Verona is another amphitheatrum in Verona
That is not the colosseum, this is a copy of that in Verona, its mane is Arena di Verona
1 Fascinating Arena
