Just a word of advice, I would never use a new camera on a paid gig like a commercial. You never know what could happen. Unless you shot on red a lot before your purchase. Congrats on the new camera though.
Contemplating between this and the C300 Mark 2. Two questions; What's the weight like when rigged with battery & lens (I own a Ronin MX) and how do you manage data/file size if your'e constantly shooting music videos, commercials etc. (I edit with a pretty fast Macbook Pro as well) Thanks and congrats on your upgrade.
As for weight, I've shot a lot with this camera completely handheld and it's very doable, it's 9.5lbs fully loaded, but it doesn't fit great on a ronin mx. It fits on a full size ronin with arm extensions though, or no arm extensions if you use smaller batteries. Data storage and management isn't as much of a hassle as I thought it would be mainly because fast external hard drives are getting really cheap nowadays and I usually include the cost of a new drive with every new project I do. I also have a full review video on my channel that goes more in depth on these details, check it out!
go red man. raw workflow is unbelievable and red really has there compression figured out. full frame raw content scrubs in premiere better than 4k GoPro footage.
The whole build was about $16,000 including all the batteries and mags that I bought with it. I afforded it by treating it like a car purchase with a loan- it wasn't paid off all at once. The tax write-off was also really sweet this year ;) More of my work is coming soon, feel free to subscribe to stay up to date with my uploads.
Hey man, good to hear from you! I'm in the process of revamping this channel. going to be doing more videos that are related to filmmaking and my career as a freelance cinematographer. Stick around!
what labtop are you using to handle the 4k with out any problems, or buffering, so basically what computer or labtop should i use to edit the 4k, and specs please & tk you
Wooden Camera = x2 - I think that the price of Smallrig with quality comparable. Think Wooden Camera are great but they need to review their pricing in the market.
Your question was about crop factor, which is only determined by the sensor size. You seem to be confusing crop factor with the projection size of a lens. It's a bit too hard to describe in a comments section, but there's a lot of good material online that should help you out. If you'd like me to make a whole video on the subject I'd be happy to! I come from a background of working on smaller s16 sized film and I have a pretty thorough understanding of crop and field of view with different lenses.
it amaze me how much people spend on a body and they dont bother to buy better lenses ... its all about the lens not the body ... no matter how expensive the body is .. with bad light going inside the sensor .. there is no point of expensive body ... you should buy better lenses ... to get the real thing from body by the lens....
When I have the budget I rent better lenses. But no, I'm not going to spend 100k on a cinema lens set. I simply don't have that kind of money. And there are plenty of reasons that you should bother buying a nice camera regardless of the lenses. Even "cheap" stills lenses resolve very high resolutions, so yes that's important. Also lower compression ratios, higher dynamic range, color science, frame rates...these are all things completely independent of optics.
My entire career revolves around this equipment, so I made a sacrifice. It's financed like a car. I'm also lucky enough to have very decent credit for someone my age. And the tax write off was pretty sweet too.
Av M Feel free to check out my other videos then. Perhaps you’ll find something you like elsewhere. Good vibes all around though, no need for the negativity my dude!
Dude, this thing is like $20k. That;s sort of unreasonable waste of money imo when you have that surroundings and that table in a house and your youtube video is so low quality. Why not to invest in basic things first ;) The environment just doesn't seem right for this camera )
Vlad B it was actually 16k, but that's besides the fact. This UA-cam video being low quality has no relation to my career as a cinematographer, in which the projects I work on have thousands of dollars in their budget and many people in the crew working together. You can't make comments about "the environment not seeming right" without knowing the landscape of my career and the types of gigs I do.
that must have been the happiest day of your life :)
Good stuff man I'm excited just watching others receive there cameras I can't wait till mine come I'm so geeked!!! Great unboxing😎
Congratulations, i have not yet been allocated but I'm waiting!

Awesome! Congrats, you're going to love it!
What was that little tool you were using? It has Allen wrenches and the large flat head? Looked awesome. Thanks in advance!
It's the red sidewinder tool

yes, I shot on RED a lot before my purchase. I also did many tests before the shoot with the new one. Never had any problems, but thanks.

Rick Starick haha 4K GoPro footage is the worst!
How much was the whole build? How did you afford this setup?... I'd love to see your work

How much did everything come up to?

My MacBook pro handles the 5k quite well with 1/4 resolution playback.
congrats I'm sure that you will make really good content. :p
very nice camera, and very expensive camera,..

That monitor has pogo pins that hit metal contacts, nothing about it is wireless, unless you literally means wire-less as in no wires....
Daniel Pierce yes, wire-less. Hah you still have to connect it to the camera

That's what she said
Anyways, great unboxing man.
the 35mm lens look like what in the scarlet w? (factor crop)
It is an s35 sensor, so the same crop as any other s35 cinema camera.
but you are using one rokinon 35mm full frame lens ....

How much is it?
Share the excitement with you!
Sir all package price
Why didn't you go for Weapon Monstro man?
lol the monstro is over four times as expensive! Plus it wasn't even released yet when I got this :P

Thanks for sharing. can you make a video on how to get paid doing video ?
That's a complicated topic, but yeah I can give it a try!
how much you pay for all these things?
AnimeMusicStation exactly...a lot of money...but jokes aside, all the prices are on red's site.
I should mention, the camera has gone up in price since I ordered it a year ago.
so it is about 16000 usd right?
red scarlet + rokinon lens ? really?
It hurts me too.
"wow it's smaller than I thought it would be" that's what your girlfriend said ! LOL 3:13
More video
he looks like a cross between Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe
How do you young guys afford such expensive stuff? Daddy? Mummy? Lottery? Man ...
My entire career revolves around this equipment, so I made a sacrifice. It's financed like a car. I'm also lucky enough to have very decent credit for someone my age. And the tax write off was pretty sweet too.
good for you man. fuck the haters haha. I'm an epic W owner, received mine last October and I had similar emotions when I unboxed the thing hahah
