- As I said in the video, I'm not a numbers person. Im also not a gear head. I know what works for me, and I stick to it. That said, these are simply the things that have stuck out to me most having owned this camera for over a year.

When a glorified SD card costs nearly as much as all the film equipment you own O_o
-Panasonic G7 + 14-42mm ($500ish)
-Manfrotto MVH500A tripod + fluid head ($300ish)
-Telephoto + Prime Lenses ($300)
-4 Sandisk 64GB SD cards ($80)
-Lighting ($250ish)
-Gimbal (Zhiyun Crane Plus) ($490ish)
Total = $1,900ish (vs the $1,850 mag)

You are absolutely right. It's a killer little camera! I recommend you get the 25mm f/1.7 to get the best quality image on a budget.

Dude, it's nothing. Peter Jackson shot on RED for the Hobbit movies. Imagine the budget on those, and imagine how much 1.8k is totally chicken feed. Yes, it's a lot for a single guy going freelance, but it's ultimately worth it. The 'Brain' is insane... in almost every respect.

I will probably never purchase a red. A 4000$ a9 at best. However, Brandon's videos are so cinematic and insightful that it's worth spending the valuable 10 minutes of my life 😁😁
£1800 for a 480gb RED mini mag in 2019, there’s no excuse for this crazy pricing. A 1tb ssd is £100 now, a 480gb red mini mag should be no more then £600... and that’s me taking into account the crazy overpricing of the cinema industry.

VMSULTHAN Yeah, he is well placed to begin with , and on top off everything else he basically sells you stuff including his merch.
Yeah you are right about that this camera is expensive. But 50k for camera its nothing, when they are being used to shoot shots that cost 50-100k pr shot. Same with ssd’s, they are expensive, but thats because they need to be buletproff.

I think with the pace that technology is changing, RED and Arri are too expensive for anyone not invested in them at this point and that they are going to see some significant new competition. Also, traditional camera makers seem to slowly becoming aware that a mixed use, SLR / Video camera, and a non-modular camcorder are no longer the preferred package. UA-cam and all of the new distribution platforms are attracting smaller scale video production, while the top level of movie production is narrowing, and is looking for more innovation than a single company can provide, and for fewer proprietary restrictions. An $1800 SSD card for the RED is enough on its own for them to lose sales, the batteries are too big and they make mobility more difficult. The RED audio module seems to not offer optimum results for some users. I like RED and Arri cameras a lot but since I am not invested in them at this point, I am definitely looking with greater interest at the alternatives that are not SLR / camcorder types.

I hate hate HATE the Red Mags. They're stupidly expensive, and not redundant. I'm a compulsive worrier, and I cannot deal with not having dual slot recording.

the red top handle is a rip off, and so are the red brick v mounts. there are much better options for much cheaper. also, small hd make a monitor you can control the camera with. instead of the outrigger handle, you could have got a smallrig side plate and a rosette handle. the only thing i dont like about red cameras is that you have to crop to go down res.
