    The issue with a camera like this is it is unsupported.
    While it is good for client perception, if you compare dynamic range and low light to a modern camera i.e (Blackmagic cinema camera 6K, Z cam F6, etc.) the modern stuff mostly looks better these days.

    • @Alexlohrum
      @Alexlohrum  10 місяців тому +3

      Thats what i love about cine camera. they last so long. used the 6k pro for a while at the production company I work for, great camera, but this RED definitely out shines it. a great example of cine cameras lasting a long time is the alexa mini that came out in 2015 and its still the most used camera on commercials and movies. also lets be real, i know I said it in the video but the client perception isn't that important in most cases.

    • @user-ke2up6mr8t
      @user-ke2up6mr8t 10 місяців тому

      I wasn't referring to teh 6K Pro. I was referring to the 6K (new release) and the zcam F6 with the 6 micron large format sensor. The red weapon is behind in dynamic range and low light performance. Also color blackmagic is near the top these days. You can see the older red cameras definitely are innacurate. Canon was the same but people like how skin looked.
      yes client perception is a thing but frankly the old cine cameras from RED do not hold up. From Arri and Sony it is a different story.@@Alexlohrum

      ahhh got ya. regardless still a great camera. used the dragon along side the Alexa mini on a recent commercial I shot, both looked great together. But yes new tech is definitely getting better. @@user-ke2up6mr8t

    But seeing the price, it would push me towards a komodo just for the record media availability. You can find komodos mostly rigged out for around $7,000.

    • @Alexlohrum
      @Alexlohrum  Рік тому +2

      Definitely a great option now that they are getting cheaper. I had the chance to use a komodo and this is just my personal opinion but the user experience wasn't great. I think having a monitor with controls would have elevated it a lot more rather than using the small screen on the top for the menu( it had a 7in monitor just not with controls for the camera). Could also be that Im not use to the camera yet. thanks for the comment!

    So does Scarlett do 120fps at 4K? Did quite understand what you meant. I would like to shoot some Action Chase Getaway scenes. On fence between Used Scarlet vs new Komodo.

    • @Alexlohrum
      @Alexlohrum  5 місяців тому

      yes the Scarlet does 4k 120 where the komodo does 2k 120. I think either would be great for that. when you say new komodo, are you referring to the komodo x?

      @@wildpatagoniafilms16 If you are going to compare it to new mirrorless cameras than not great but honestly not all that bad for an older cine camera. i try to keep it 1600 and lower but I've shoot at 5000 and it was totally usable( definitely visible noise). by no means a low light beast but for most situations i feel its fine. I also want to say that I find the noise to be very natural if that makes any sense. The chroma noise is very minimal. I've got this question a decent amount so I may do a low light test video!

    • @Alexlohrum

    • @Alexlohrum
      @Alexlohrum  11 місяців тому

      @@aidanrogers1087 There is a gap. but if there is light coming in from the back of the matte box front the gap then I will either use the adapter or Matte box cloth donut to block out light. I just recently purchased the Sigma Cine zooms which have a 95mm front so my matte box just slides right onto the lenses now with no issues.

    • @Alexlohrum

      Not the brain. the used ef mount i bought has broken electronics or something so if i use an ef lens I cant change aputure. ( i could just buy a new mount to get rid of the problem) thats not too big of a deal since I use the dzo lens. but beside that small inconvenience not really at all. I know the old reds had some issues but so far i haven't had any issues.

    Bro, after watching all of your content with the scarlet W I caved in and bought myself a Scarlet W.
    I do have one question though. How do you find the rolling shutter? Can you do fast-ish whippy pan stuff with it? I have the opportunity to get the "motion mount" which turns it into a global shutter and am wondering if I really need it or whether I've just been too much brainwashed by the "komodo global shutter beautiful movement" hype?
