Absolutely Brilliant. Aussie company supplying world class products. Once small businesses realize what they can do with this eg. livestream product presentations, training etc, they will go mad for this product. No need to hire a media company. Just do it yourself.
This is a great product and I plan on buying one soon! But would love to see the following features in a firmware update: an XML file provided along with the ISO recording… And potentially comment integration from social sites you broadcast to!
Comment integration as well as dynamic overlays (text in my case) would be awesome. I use a lot of quotes, and would like to see an efficient and stylish integration of them without having to set up a slide each in Keynote or similar.
Hi chaps, i have used the road wireless go for about three years, to cut a long story short, i had a miss hap when fishing in very high winds, i had to pee, when i got off my seat to go, all my fishing gear blew in the lake, i put the mick on my side tray with my phone and a few more bits, so i bought the wireless go ii, it's ok but i have to turn the volume up in the edit, what is the setting that would be the same as the old one, the old one on full gain, what would that be on the new please,
I'm really interested in the auto switching feature, but for it to be useful it would need to be able to separately address individual mic channels over on the Rodecaster Pro II. I hope it can either do that already or that will come in an update!
I bought a RCV. I have come from software switchers.(Livestream Studio & Wirecast) I also have a BMD Atem mini. Transcoding video needs to be to 1080p which I use DaVinci Resolve to reformat the video from 4K. Could be done internally. Working out how to add music files isn't easy. Video I have worked through and managed to make work.( not sound yet) Screen capturing a desktop with sound is my next hurdle. Mix-minus is something we used to do with an external mixer(nice feature) We used to have an app on the network for that. Adding RTMP sources is straightforward. Be great if much of the desktop work was able to be done via NDI for ingest. Best source for setting up a RCV is a video with PhotoJoseph.
I would be pushing the buy button right now if the video recording came in 4k. I will wait for the 2nd generation that has the 4k video recording capability. Please come out with it soon
I have purchased a RCV and it is my favorite piece of gear!! But I have a question about 8-bit vs 10-bit. Can you explain the dos and don'ts of that when it comes to the RCV. I noticed the video quality in a few videos of some reviews looked just a tad washed out. Then I saw another video on bits. Is that because of post processing and 8-bit?
Hi guys.. just bought a RCV.. I can't connect it via the Rode Central app.. apps installed BUT no RCV device comes up either via wifi or by plugging via USBC. Can't find any info after hours of looking / reading.. any halps would be great.. ✌️
Hi, i have a Mevo Start camera. I tried to connect it on the USB 4 port of the Roadcastervideo but it doesnt work. Do I have to connect it on the HDMI port for it to work ?
For this to be of use to me, it needed to have audio controls like the Rodecaster Pro on the front of the console. I get that it's all available by the menu and in Rode Central, but if I need to adjust a level quickly and instantly, while still carrying on with the show, that's no going to work. Even the comparable Blackmagic units have the ability to select, mute and adjust level on the front, albeit with buttons (as well as in the software control panel) but this, has nothing.
Could Rode integrate the video functionalities of the Rodecaster Video into the Rodecaster Pro 2 in the next product? That would create a killer all-in-one device, combining both video and audio capabilities. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be in a rush to buy this product. It lacks many intuitive features and feels like just the beginning of a promising future for similar products.
@ thank you - as a feature request, if it’s do’able in a firmware, being able to set the B Output to those 3 OR any one of the 1-4 HDMI inputs directly would be very helpful. Thx.
Will we be able to change HDMI out to of of the other HDMI inputs? I know right now it does program out or preview, but as a instructor where I stream to students, but also teach live being able to have my computer go into one of the HDMI inputs, but also one of those HDMI inputs go through one of the outputs so it can go back to a screen in the classroom would be extremely helpful
Not directly - in this case, we'd recommend using a HDMI splitter so that you can duplicate the signal of the computer that the classroom needs to view, while also sending another signal into the RØDECaster Video.
Any plans for a future Rodecaster Video with 2 mix engines (2 program outs)? Need to be able to send different video mixes to local audience and online audience. E.g. local audience doesn't need to see local camera feeds, but online audience does.
Great video guys, thanks. You mentioned some new Sony Vlogging style cameras can plug straight in via usb, can you give some models as an example so I can research for a low cost 2-3 camera setup please?
One specific area of use for me is the *media player* capability especially the video. Currently I am using the ECamm to play my videos and I like the controls by ECamm for skipping and advancing the clip by 30 secs fwd or bwd, etc. I am not sure if the RCV gives any such controls when playing video.
So... the only real value I can see for this for me right now is as an input aggregator/I-O expander (I'm a laptop user, so input constrained) for my existing Twitch setup in OBS. Is it fair to assume that this device can stream its output channel directly into a USB-C connection that I can connect to my laptop and pipe directly into OBS? Is any specific connector software required for this and is it included in the box?
Exactly right! You can send the main program feed directly into OBS when connecting the RØDECaster Video to your computer via USB-C 😊 No additional software required, though Central can give you even more control!
You can connect two transmitters to the built-in receiver. With the second kit, you can connect it via the combo jack inputs! A VXLR adaptor should do the trick - rode.com/en/accessories/adaptors-cables/vxlr
Can you show how the auto-switcher function works? I am a solo creator of a podcast an would love to get rid of editing my multi-cam recordings afterwards. How would I go about if I have two guests on instead of one? I would use my Rodecaster Pro II alongside the Rodecaster Video.
Auto-switching will definitely do the trick for your needs! You can also connect the RØDECaster Pro II directly into the RØDECaster Video to give you even more audio options 😊 we'll pass your suggestion on to our content team!
What does the external USB-C port actually record? Does it multi-track record all audio inputs PLUS all the video input ISOs as well all on the same SSD drive?
Guys tell me can videocaster allow for more 3 shure sm7dbs since they are xlr mics or i have to use only 2 mics tell me how i can more than 2 mics on it,which type of mics and how to connect them
The RØDECaster Video has a maximum of two XLR connections, but you can also connect a RØDECaster Pro II or Duo to the switcher to give you access to more mic input options!
Its design doesn’t impress me-without audio faders to directly control mic input signals, having to navigate through multiple menu layers is time-consuming and, frankly, quite frustrating.
Can I use two iPhones instead of cameras? What are the connection options? I'd like to hear the details. What about lighting and old phones. I think since you made a downgrade from 4k to 1080, we have the right to use outdated equipment.
You will need to connect your iPhone via the HDMI port by using an AV adaptor. Check out this article for further details - help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/10861112048399-Connecting-Your-Mobile-Device-to-the-R%C3%98DECaster-Video-as-a-Video-Source
I am very grateful for your response. You are suggesting in the essence of the screen mirror. That's not the right application at all. It's not a video stream from camera. It would be great to use multiple iphones instead of expensive/cheap cameras (no need to spend money yet)
I do not understand why we need it. I have wireless mic PRO but I hardly ever use it as wires mic. I just record sounds and mix it in video editing software. So I could do the same thing for videos and sounds in the software. Anyway I suggest you should sell small mics with recording function instead of wireless mic. I bet you can make it cheaper for sure.
I think if this one doesn’t have 4 to 5 microphone 3 camera and over 4k Vidoe recording meaning can go live record up to 5 people than it’s not worth it for me to buy this one
Nah. We need dedicated button not to think twice what each of a dozen buttons do in different situations. Wouldn't buy. Create dedicated buttons or do what Loopdeck and Elgato do-buttons with small displays integrated into them to change an icon on a button to illustrate its function.
This box is just as useless as the Director Mini, the Yolobox etc if it can't bring in Zoom or Skype as a video source to allow video podcasters with hosts all over the country to bring in remote video guests. How hard is it to let it use a video feed from a PC as a source? And then use it more than once so you can manipulate each remote guest into scenes? That's all I need and none of you ever think to include it...we're not all solo artists out here and we all don't have massive studios that everyone can come be at together. Address this and I just might buy one...and quit making them so damn expensive in Canada, it's ridiculous.
Beautiful. Can’t wait to get one for my virtual productions. 🎉

Can I set one of the OUTPUTS (say hdmi out B) to mirror one of the inputs? So it essentially acts a an input thru?
You can set the HDMI OUTs to the following: Preview, Program or Multiview 😊

If this feature can be implemented in RCV, wow, it will be an amazing thing especially in my case. Surely the Rode has the talent to do it!
How many output and dedicated output like the Atem mini does it have ?
Great video guys, thanks. You mentioned some new Sony Vlogging style cameras can plug straight in via usb, can you give some models as an example so I can research for a low cost 2-3 camera setup please?
Cameras such as the Sony ZV-E1, Sony FX30, Sony FX3 will work great!
I believe the frame rate it comes in on on the FX30 via USB-C is only 15fps compared to newer models like the A7CII and ZV-E1 that do 30FPS
