The inspiration for "Disposable Heroes" came from a picture on the wall of James Hetfield's brothers room..it was an American soldier fighting in Vietnam.Full army greens and gun in hand.
The way these guys play these 7-8 minute songs back to back on stage flawlessly just astounds.
I mean, Kirk can't really nail that solo anymore, but its still impressive that they can do this good a job on that song at their age.
This album, Master of Puppets came out when I was in high school It was badass then, and still today remains on of the greatest albums ever....

This is an anti-war song nothing whatsoever to do with drugs
Its not so much anti war as it is more commentary on how our soldiers are treated after they come back

"21, only son... he's yours to take away...", "Back to the front - You will do what I say, when I say back to the front, you will die, when I say you must die..."...

Masdter of Puppets as a whole is a MASTERPIECE of an album, STILL their best, it's 8 tracks of stone-cold metal perfection, all killer no filler and every single one of them KICKS ARSE!!! Love to see you react to a performance of The Thing That Should Not Be sometime, that's my absolute favourite from it ...
I can't disagree much...personally, I just think Ride The Lightning tops it by a percentage point or two, hehe. On RTL they were beginning the transformation from pure thrash into this precision speedmetal, with a bit of that old, raw sound from Kill Em All too...plus it contains my favorite track of theirs of all time, Creeping Death. But, to each their own. I love this album too 🤘
Only Metallica with masterpiece songs
I've been a Metallica fan for over 30 years but I've never seen them in a concert. That will change in June 2024.

I was surprisingly impressed that they played this old relic with so much ferocity as the original. Very impressive.
But the best part was watching Bisscute's reactions - she's so damn adorable - from her huge smiles to her animated antics to her hilarious commentary. This one delivered huge on all three.

I saw them play this on the Master Of Puppets Tour in London 1986, 2 weeks before Cliff Burton died. And they still play it with the same intensity. Just Fucking awesome stamina and passion. Metallica - the best.

I've been lucky to see Metallica once. In a crowd of 52,000 people. I honestly wonder if they can hear the crowd at all? I know the show I was at Metallica was so loud not only could I not hear the person screaming the words out next to me, but I couldn't hear myself. Metallica live feels like a force of nature. Thankfully, for me, there's actually official Metallica live video from that particular show. I like to show it to people when they show a shot of the entire crowd and go "That's me! In the background! I'm right over there!" 😆
I also have to suggest, because it seems you have not done it yet, Metallica - Damage Inc.
Though you may want to put some seat belts on that chair so you don't accidently fling yourself off keeping up with the song. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Great song! Damage inc. is my favorite Metallica. Heaviest thrash song they have IMHO.
The ticket package are a little pricey but you're seeing both Pantera and Metallica. So is worth it.
Crowd surfing is normal. When you reach the front security grabs you so you can exit safely, then you make your way back into the crowd to do it all over again.

The funny part is that they made a few "anti-war" songs but a heck of a lot of us, when we were over in Iraq and Afghanistan (we all grew up on Metallica), used these songs as hype songs before going out on patrols and operations. This song, One, For Whom the Bell Tolls.... great hype songs for soldiers....

Looked to see, and Metallica are coming to Germany, but sadly tickets went on sale in December, so I imagine it’s close to $1000 a ticket now. I hope you get to see them though. They are having shows in both Munich and Hamburg
I got to see them five times. The first time there was only one hundred people or less there. Meet Cliff that night as Metallica and Armored Saint played basketball across the street.

Another phenomenal band live a definite must see! This video does not do them justice lol! Since I believe you once said you were in Germany you really should check out the massive metal festival that goes on every year there called "Wacken" Its a must for you lol! you will enjoy it guaranteed! If I lived in Europe I would be in heaven as that is where so many huge metal festival our I could make a vacation of just festivals lol!
I really hope you're going to see Metallica one day live. The sooner the better. They're starting a new big tour this year, so if they come to a place near you, don't hesitate, buy a ticket (they're sold out very quickly), take some friends with you and enjoy the show. By the way, where you're from? I can't really place the accent.
Don't worry, they got another 10 years of touring left in them... at least. They all stay in relatively good shape.

Love the speed guitar work in this video. There is some mosh pits in the crowd too and is fun but can get a little ruff sometimes! Real intense & exhilarating
Those Roaring guitars really delivered with James deep vocals & the lyrics really bring it home on the futility of war in the trenches. Bob Trujillo liked this before he even joined up while running in the Santa Monica hills with a couple of cassette's & said it's one of their best songs to introduce to new fans. I bet you would have wanted to be there Biss rocking out going the distance hell yeah!!!
