Interesting how Super Mario Kart has a very similar exploit, where bumping into a wall next to the finish line could skip ahead for 1 frame and push back behind it for the next frame, triggering a lap completion as far as the game is concerned since it was effectively a jump from a later section to the finish line.
It’s so strange to see a record that’s literally perfect, and cannot be improved upon regardless of what new strats are found. It feels like a glitch in and of itself!
My favorite MK of the series, and this is the reason. I couldn't put it into words, yet you did the research to understand and portray all the details without leaving a stone unturned. Thank you for your videos, amazing work!
Probably not, that entire discussion on if it should be banned or not started because of the initial perfect lap setup on Toad's Turnpike, and I didn't get into it here since it's not super interesting and only allows for a skip on Moo Moo Farm if it were allowed.
I remember in rogue squadron i jad some weird interaction with a mountain or something and beat the mission with a time of 0:00 which is probably a record.
I'm very sleepy atm and i saw the mario kart 8 render and thought "ah, a video about the whacky wall mechanics in mk8. It really does mess up your steering completely when you bump into one, i want to know why that is"
I still find it interesting how people figured this all out. More proof as to why I enjoy looking at speedrunning tech at times. I don't plan on being a speedrunner, but still enjoy the mechanics behind it.
What I would give to go back to those forums with the knowledge I have now about this game and chat about it with the people of that time. That era of the internet was a magical place. The online communities weren't all lumped into some mega-culture like Reddit and Discord, which only have slight variations of the same internet culture, but back when they all had their own little flair.
This is why I wished they separated the categories, the 0"01 WRs completely defeats the purpose to grind for the best time ever, once you hit it, it's all over... Non Shortcut all the way!
Could you link a vid or some way to do the shortcuts on our own? I kinda want to try them (both toad turnpike and Luigi raceway and Yoshi valley too if possible)
i don't understand all the "AI voice" comments, but maybe it's just that we've become more suspicious of everything presented to us online these days. i know i catch myself scrutinizing thumbnails and art in general, looking for indications of AI generated garbage. not entirely the worst thing - being critical, i mean - but there are better ways to answer the question of, "is this video narrated by a computer/AI?" than "dude you sound like an AI/stop using the AI voice it's annoying" etc. we can be suspicious, but we should also still be kind; though the internet world is changing for the scarier, it's still populated by other people who have feelings just like the rest of us, and we need to be good to each other. fwiw, abyssoft, i adore the way you say Lakitu! great video as always
@@Abyssoft the weird thing is im still seeing 2 notifications, and if i press the bottom one i just see a "this video is private" message, so i bet you will got alot of questions! ive never seen this happen before, maybe the first video should be fully deleted? not sure

@@jordantfryman6184 I had no idea it also had this exploit, but I suppose it makes sense considering it is very similar to Super Mario Kart!

Hey David! It’s great to see you still somewhat active in the community. You were a shortcut LEGEND! Nice Back to the Future reference as well haha.

So you can do 71000 laps in the time it takes to watch this video
Correction: 21,293 laps, because there appears to be 21,293 frames in this video at 30fps.

i love how lunaticj uploaded a video about pausing only an hour later
Followed by: How Pressing “Start” on the Title Screen BREAKS Mario Kart 64

👍keep it up bro! 😎

Driving into walls breaks Mario's kart

Modern Games break even more...

Man driving through walls are so helpful I once was being chased by the cops but I remembered this trick and drove through the walls to escape them
6:48 I love how a video teaches me about this a day after I learned about this myself in another game.
David Wonn the man the myth the legend!
This
Walls are the Mario Kart equivalent of bombs in Zelda
Turtle shells probably
I think the hitting the wall that sends up wards before entering the tumble causes the momentum of the tumble to go up which causes the jump
Again, a very informative video.
Thanks for breaking down the technical stuff!
Last time on Abyssoft Z... 😮
I never understand a damn thing he says in these videos yet they're so entertaining to me
Any time I see a Mario Kart 64 video and I see that VAJ is still active warms my heart.

Wake up babe, a new Abyssoft video on MK64 just came out
This is why I wished they separated the categories, the 0"01 WRs completely defeats the purpose to grind for the best time ever, once you hit it, it's all over...
Non Shortcut all the way!
As far as I'm aware there also is a non shortcut category on this game in which walls are way less useful and thus were not mentionned in this video.
Categories will always be separated to keep competitive speedrunning alive. Gotta keep up the fun
Abney is an absolute legend
Could you link a vid or some way to do the shortcuts on our own? I kinda want to try them (both toad turnpike and Luigi raceway and Yoshi valley too if possible)
Starting to get "doing X crashes Paper Mario" but with speedrun glitches for Mario Kart.
I read this as DS somehow

Short Cuts have officially become a meme category. No skill necessary to accomplish these.
