sludge.
Thank you both!!!!!!!🎉🎉
Your explanation of that was so good. "A new world record. And I didn't use a single skip."
That transition to the sponsor plug was just way too smooth...
Think I'll give it a try!
Do they do tuna flavour?
Wait... The Boo item doesn't *actually* steal an item? Oh God...
"You take the blue shell, the story ends, you wake up in Peach's castle and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red shell, you stay in Bowser's Castle and I show you how deep the Mip's Rabbit hole goes."
Not on GP mode with just a single player, if you're playing with friends it'll steal items
@@Abyssoft But still, the game lied to me. I will never forgive it. I will never play Mario kart 64 again.
*Five minutes later*
Fine I'll play it
@@novelezra 🤣
CPUs don't have items in MK64 like a player does. Its not actually until very late in the series they do.
@@joegaddy2030get your mind out of the gutter
TAS explanations are some of my favorite videos in all of UA-cam, and they're such a rarity as well. Love the video, keep up the good work!
They tend to be much more technical than speedrun explanations, but that's why I find them more interesting
Programming + the scientific method. I agree, it's awesome.
The dk64 one doesn’t even have voice narration and I still watch
@@MrIcenice44which one are you talking about? bismuth’s dk64 vid definitely has voiceover
Have you watched ThaRixer's video on Andyrion's TAS of Silent Hill?
Huge thanks to Drew Weatherton for help on this video, go check out his channel in the description. Micro500, Beck Abney, Sean Sullivan, and abitalive all deserve a mention as well for their contributions to making the TAS possible.
Thanks, great job on this! 🎉
@@weathertonhey it's that guy! Thanks for your dedication to the community!
@@weathertonHey, you must've named yourself after the Weathertenko skip!
Why is this not pinned
the odds are 1 in 3.43 unvigintillion. it is a named number, it's just that no one really uses anything above a quadrillion.
a unvigintillion is 10^66, the general table of named number just stop at a vigintillion (10^63) because why would you have a bigger number?
Regardless, I think we should name this specific number James.
I knew it
I'd call it a Dream
i was gonna say mario kart 64illion but close enough!
Let's call it Kartillion
Good explanation overall.
15:47 The Kalimari star shortcut also works on lap 0 and on negative laps. I'm unaware as to whether the game was coded to prevent it only on lap 3 or whether it was prevented additionally on laps 4 and beyond though.
I don't want to watch this, it's too long!
If at least there was a few girls with big butts twearking in the corner...
Seeing the resulting time of the "speedrun" for making the CTRL drink is honestly way more helpful than you'd think
I thought it was a meta thing to do, glad it was of help
“A number so large, it’s not named.”
Actually that number is named. It’s called “3.43 unvigintillion”
Waoh
A video from you after a tiring day? Amazing
A 50 MINUTE VIDEO about the legendary Mario kart 64 from you?
My week has officially gone from normal to absolutely fantastic❤❤❤❤
Playing this as a teen, I always felt that stars were faster than mushrooms. Now I know I was right to feel that way
The part about the lap counter decreasing when you go backwards got me thinking.
Can you drive backwards for a million laps, and have a lap counter of negative 1 million? Or is there some limit?
Just thinking it would be a funny prank to set up a level with a high negative lap counter, and then tell a friend to "finish the level."
Lol.
I hope this TAS is updated with all the modern techniques, so many more brilliant things can now be done, even by humans!
Excellent video. Concise, well presented, and has enough of the technical details to explain the tricks without getting bogged down in them. Great work.
Thanks, it's always hard to find a balance between how deep to go on something and when to keep the video moving along on projects this long
@@Abyssoft You found a good balance :)
I can only think of how much we've learned about this game since this TAS was created and how much more time could be saved now.
EVERYTHING I asked myself during the TAS was answered in this video, from RNG manipulation to character weight stats. Thank you so much for making this.
O
45:23 "At this point he has no time to spare, and must-shroom immediately"
Imagine traveling back in time to the 90s and play some Mario kart in a store demo
It's so interesting to listen to WR/TAS explained videos.
Thank you for your amazing work, keep it up!!
The Broken-ass Trio
Super Mario 64: Lots of glitches, first 3d Game, can be crashed in 20 seconds, main glitches are physics based
Paper Mario 64: Made with duct-tape, crashes very easily, infamous for having a cardboard story progression system and weird softlocks like the Em-bush softlock happening because they are talkable but there's no text available
Mario Kart 64: One-time glitches, drive through any wall
The combination of subject matter, presentation, and explanation makes this my most favorite piece of content I have ever seen in my life...and it's not even close.
“I’m the BEST!” Really punctuates the end of each track.
Great vod! I'm pumped for the updated TAS!!!
Props to whoever TAS is for making this video possible
The number does have a name, unfortunately. It's 3.43 Unvigintillion
Indeed. Cookie clicker player?
Great stuff, thank you for all your hard work to explain all this! Keep being awesome!
Great analysis video! Thanks for uploading! I wonder what you'll tackle next!
That’s totally insane!
Great video editing and explanation!
"The better part of 3 decades,"
You didn't have to do me like that
I’m in awe as far as the amount of work Drew put in this and the amount of work you put in to produce the video. 😮
38:17 “other than a shell or mushroom”
Ghosts and Stars: Am I a joke to you?
I always enjoy Bismuth’s videos of tas and speed run explanations, I believe he did this one as well quite some time ago
Isn't that number at the end just 3.43 Unvigintillion or smth like that?
The fact he used the bananas against Donkey Kong is hilarious
48:50 the number here does have a name; it's 1 in 3.43 Unvigintillion :)
woah this video is really high quality! I really enjoyed it!
48:46 It's called 3.43 unvigintillion (using the short scale standard).
the buttons turning with the kart sprites during explanations is a really fun editing choice
Insane tas tricks, great video 🎉
idk why youtube recommended me your newest video thats 5 hours old at this point, but im glad it did. i like your voice and i love speedruns explained. and bismuth can only cover so much. you got a new sub :)
Happy to have you!
@@Abyssoft happy to be here. Keep the awesome work up
Every time Drew is mentioned in a video, I'm contractually obligated to yell "WEATHERTENKO!"
Well done on this video. The editing goes hard. Props to that, I know it wasn't easy.
Great video and great stuff. It's hard work to put stuff like this together, so thank you.
Nice save @34:26, Toad 😂. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh - I'm the best!"
@0:56 So clean; I think you could save a fraction of a second just holding onto the lid. Not sure though.
I need to think of a skip for next time they sponsor me to get the time sub 20s
45:17 Never got to say this during the premiere, and I can’t believe I missed the opportunity to, but that’s certainly one way to get high in many different ways.
YOOOOO AWESOME
thank you 4 putting this together !!!
Imagine powering on your treasured copy of Mario Kart 64 for a fun night of racing with your friend but your friend happens to be Weatherton.
How on earth have I played this game for twenty years and not noticed that the tide comes in on the beach level!
What??? There is no way you didn’t notice that 😂
Ray Charles noticed the tide dude...
Great video and editing!
23:58
The concept of this "player" absolutely destroying these CPUs so hard at their own game is a very entertaining thought, made even better by the image of one of the other drivers trying desperately to slow him down with a lightning bolt, only to be thwarted by their pre-programmed oppressor manipulating the Lakitu state to totally nullify the bolt
You know, as a joke
34:21
You think this is bad, this, this CHICANERY? He’s done worse! That… Weathertenko? You’re telling me Toad just happens to fall like that? No! He orchestrated it… Weatherton! He completely skipped Choco Mountain! And they counted the lap… they shouldn’t have. They gave him a lap time of less than 4 seconds… what was Nintendo thinking? He’ll never change… he’ll never change. Ever since 2014, always the same. He couldn’t keep his laptimes off of the leaderboards. But not our Weatherton. Couldn’t be precious Weatherton! Stealing them blind… and he gets to make TASes!? What a sick joke! The mods should have stopped him when they had the chance! And you, you have to stop him! You…
bro i love falling asleep to these kind of videos lol
38:52 i thought the video ended, i thought those were endcards for a second, some strange psychology right there.
I love the details in this video
I would LOVE to see a new tas brought to life for MK64. There really are a lot of new things they could implement and I’d love to see it done. Especially because we all know Abyssoft would come through with the dope explanation all over again. Great video 🙏
When the new TAS is finished I'll likely do another video since multiple tracks have new skips and .01 laps.
Good lord no wonder this took so long to make! Awesome
Actually, the number at 48:48 is named: three unvigintillion four hundred thirty vigintillion ...
48:51 it's a one in a morbillion chance
This guy is the CEO of TAS runs.
Curious, on sherbert land, why doesn't tas TAS go for the wall skip (33:19) for all 3 laps instead of just laps 2 and 3? Does it have to do with the CPUs and items or is there something else I'm missing?
The cpu's won't be in position on lap one no matter what combination of items you try and use.
I also left this detail out, but getting to the island breaks the levels checkpoint system in a way that enables the cpu jumps. Why this happens would take a lot of time to explain, maybe in a future video :)
@@AbyssoftThank you so much for the thoughtful explanation. Amazing video as always Abyss. Cheers
I learned a lot this video was ama-za-zing
I love when tas makers put flashy things whenever possible to make the run cooler
Fantastic video Abyssoft!
This is really well made, liked the editing, it was really enjoyable to watch.
My question is: for Royal Raceway? Why can't you TAS the 3rd lap and do that weird glitch where lakitu puts you on some glitched screen (it looks like you're very high up in the air)
and then you get sent straight to the finish line. This trick is done when you do the 1st lap bridge jump
I've played this game so much, I loved it and accidently found the glitch, but NEVER actually knew how to make it happen!
Please could you tell me how to actually do the glitch? I don't actually know and just done it very rarely by chance.
Wouldn't it be faster to do that weird glitch ONLY on the 3rd lap (because when put on the finish line, you're facing the wrong direction, so would it be faster to get the weird glitch to happen on only the 3rd lap?)
That glitch wasn't discovered until after this TAS was made; as for doing the glitch yourself, I'd suggest joining the MK64 discord which you can find on its speedrun . com page
Luigi causing trouble for the TAS on his raceway twice is hilarious to me
31:20 that was the craziest shit ever that toad is on crack
awesome video! Aren't there a bunch of new strats tho? Like clipping through the fence in Kalimari Desert, running into the wall at the finish in Luigi's raceway, moo moo farm npc bounce skip? Guess it's an older TAS?
Yeah, this is the 2016 TAS, there hasn't been an update yet although one is in the works
taking classes at community college so my parents think i'm making progress
I love Mario Kart 64. Just tried replaying it in the switch… it takes a bit getting use to, but it’s so much fun.
Also. Let’s call that number at the end Mewtwo.
Great video! I love your content.
1 in 3.43E+66 does have a name, it's 1 in 3.43 unvigintillion
It would be awesome If you uploaded the background videos to something like Wallpaper Engine. Always love having my favorite games on there
Thats a 1 : 3,430,000,000,000,000,349,352,846,657,969,232,812,489,747,881,826,610,482,407,215,726,592.00 chance
I remember this tas being performed at GDQ 2016
28:43 throw a spiny off the big jump where it goes off course and watch what it does. this is probably what the shell did.
"Y-you passed the finish line?" - Chuck Mcgill and Jimmy playing MK64, probably
Great video! :) P.S. ... the clip at ~21:25 is so loud and scared the SHIT out of me
Yeah, I missed normalizing that one to the same decibel level as the others
Holy shit i thought it was just me. I was dozing off and it scared the fuck out of me haha
12:50 I love the use of single, double, and triple mushrooms as a visual aid to demonstrate the effects of 1, 2, and 3 buttons pressed. It's a small touch but it was very clever.
34:51 He's jumping off of Donkey Kong, not Bowser. Your videos are so technical im kind of proud i spotted a mistake of yours :)
I'd like to see a TAS like this, but with a different primary goal:
Each level must include the fastest possible single lap. All other strategies for minimizing overall play time must come after the constraint of any & all costs necessary to ensure the fastest possible single lap.
Muaahahahaaa
7:25 sounds similar to the ultra shortcuts in mario kart wii.
So many years of playing this game and never knew there were 2 paths in banshee boardwalk house 😵
The Mario Kart 64 Tool Assisted Speedrun Explained
the obscenely large number should be called "1 Weatherton"
48:52 - a Weatherplex
i love your narration style so much man. your voice is such a joy to listen to
absolute content right here
I find it funnny that the mario kart wii verson of the dk's jungle ultra shortcut works almost the same way as the N64 verson
There are many new shortcuts, I hope we will see a new TAS in the future.
men will see this and just think “hell yeah”
10/10 for your sponsor presentation
"In the first cup of a new track" at 40:25
Wow, there’s a TAS of this game now.
Yeah the TAS hes explaining has only been around for over 7 years...
48:48 lets just call it the weatherton's number :)
34:52 Bowser sure is looking hairy today… 🤔
What's with the star roulette thing in the bottom righ corner every time the race is finished?
Toad is indeed the best.
Incredible stuff
48:49 Maybe a Kartoplex...unless that's already taken...
very canadian accent
As a Canada I think they sound like an usain
@@GriffinForte how? it has canadian written all over it
