    I now own a 2022 GT4. It’s exactly what I wanted out of a weekend car.
    If you can only have one car and want a sports car, get a 911. If you have the luxury of owning more than one vehicle get the GT4 as your fun car. You won’t be disappointed.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  11 місяців тому +1

      That is a good point, as a stand alone car, the GT4 would be a tough sell. But if you do have another car, any other car, the GT4 is the way to go

    • @MW_SE
      @MW_SE 10 місяців тому +2

      I agree. One car - get the 911; another daily - get the 718. Myself I do have another daily so I chose the Cayman GTS (same engine as the GT4) with PDK as I wanted a more street focused car (I only take it to the track a couple of times a year). It's such a great drive that I actually use it as a daily when I don't do long drives or need to bring more than one passenger. Also, this will be the last petrol 718 (the next model due in two years will be all-electric), so I plan to keep it for a long time.
      My only laments: Being a bit of a speed nut (in terms of acceleration, not top speed), I think it's a wee bit low on power, but then APR has a fix for that (their ECU software upgrade raises the power to 460 HP/470 NM), and I also think it could have a slightly more direct steering response to improve the steering wheel feedback even further. A third issue is the annoying "ticking" emanating from this engine (I've read somewhere that it comes from the piezo injectors?), a sound that I personally associate with something being broken in the engine...
      Apart from these three concerns, there's absolutely nothing to complain about!

      @@MW_SETotally agree - if you want something a little more exciting than a base 911 as a daily and don’t need kiddie seats in the rear, save yourself 20k and get a 718 GTS not a GT4 or Spyder - same performance and noise but with a comfort mode to soften off the hard edges.

    I own a 982 GT4 with a 6MT and a 992 C4S and I completely agree with the presenter’s sentiments. The GT4 is a lot more fun but if I have a lot of places to go I’m reaching for the C4S keys. It’s a lot more comfortable to run errands in. The GT4 is more fun but a pain to run to multiple places. If I need to go out for a fun drive I’m grabbing the GT4 keys. If you could only have one car then the 992 for sure. If you have a spare car then the GT4 all day long.

    718 Spyder owner here, 6MT with buckets. Swapped from a 911 S order and don’t regret it for a second. Better brakes, better suspension, more purist motor, etc. 911 S is a little more torquey but less linear.

    Owning both, a 982 GT4 (but different from the one in the video with Clubsport package) and a 992 (but as GTS) I can 100% confirm your statements in this comparison. The 911 is a daily who can do sports performance if requested and the GT4 is a pure sports car for the weekend and the track which can do daily tasks if you really want it but that´s not what it´s made for. As you commented that the GT4 is the „smaller“ car. Fully agree on the impression but in fact, the 718 is just minimal smaller than the 911 - the 992 911 just looks fat 😊 I love both cars. If you need to decide for one, I recommend a test drive and to base the decision on the purpose of the car: daily (911) or pure entertainment (GT4). PS: I get more „thumbs up“ from people on the street in the GT4 - just in case that‘s important for the decision making 😂 Thanks for this good video ❤

    I own a 718 GTS 4.0 and I believe it might be the best of both worlds. You can do a track day at the weekend and go for a 5 day, 2200 mile road trip in the week and it'll never disappoint. Just yesterday I drove my mum (65) back home from her holidays. It was a 440 miles (~6 hours) drive and she was complimenting about how comfortable the car is! The subtle looks of the GTS in comparison to GT4 is also much preferable for a daily IMO.

    And then there is... GTS 4.0 where you can switch the dial options between: comfort, GT4 mode (sport) and GT4 sport (sport plus), a little softer suspension and flying under the radar looks. And also 4.0 caymans and boxters are more 911 than the 992 carrera itself. Those models actually use much more parts of previous 911 than the new one which is tech packed (and software bugs all of the time). So 4.0 models have the "porsche 911 soul" people crave for. The new one is just not it.

Macan S with air suspension is an AMAZING comfortable daily driver, fairly nice in luxury with an upgraded interior option, with ACC for when you need to sit in traffic... meanwhile, the gts 4.0 needs to be manual... give yourself options.

    I had GTS 4.0 for almost a year now and I can say that I am aiming to upgrade to 992 4S within next couple of years. As much as I love Cayman, it's getting a bit too much of a car when it's your only car, and you have to drive it every day. RWD becomes problematic in winter after several days of heavy snowfall. 4.0 takes about 25-30 minutes to get to operating temperature, so I can't take short drives, and often have to do some roundtrips just to take care of the engine. Roadtrips over 2 hours are a bit tiring. Usually I listen to podcasts when I drive long distance, and I have to crank the volume way up to be able to hear it well. There are some significant tech issues as well, like the car not picking up the phone for carplay until you restart PCM, which is severely annoying for a daily vehicle.
    Overall I am absolutely in love with it, I really-really like daily driving it. Just... sometimes I wish I had another car just for that day when I am not in the mood, or when it's snowing, or when I need to do a very short trip. Or when I need to visit my parents who live 2 hours away. But I cannot justify owning two cars when I am living alone, and I cannot imagine myself driving anything other than Porsche. So I think 911 is the way to go.

      Agree on the engine sound (noise). The Bose sound system in my GT4 was simply a waste of money as the engine right behind you is that loud that you don‘t hear the sound system anyway, especially on longer distance drives here in Germany on the Autobahn. This is not a complaint - the engine sound is great !!! It´s just a recommendation to save the money for the sound system as it is useless 😂

      @@carcaveofficial in the UK not to sure but worth looking into... the GT4 sits around £80k mark base model Carrera around the same in a 992 and the GTS is around £120k. I have the funds available for the GT4 but an owner of multiple super cars I know said maybe it would be best to keep money in the bank go with the GTS 992 keep for 5 years and it wouldn't devalue too much if at all especially if the right spec is bought... it's definitely a dilemma

      GT3 is based on the 911 which is rear engined, the GT4 is based on the Cayman platform which is mid engined, and the GTR is a full blown racecar based on the 911 and isn't street legal at all

  • @rikaguilera2

    Two Completely different animals. The base 911 is a touring car now. Soft, BIG and fits its niche perfectly. The GT4 is a GT car and it's proper comparison is at the very least a GTS 911. I would take the GT4 over even a GT3 to be honest. The two compared are just not in the same category or thought.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  11 місяців тому +3

      See, I agree with you that the 911 is more of a grand tourer now, but the GTS costs far too much to be compared to the GT4. I think for this comparison, price point was the leading factor. You have the money for one, which would you choose, and obviously is comes down to an undefinable number of factors, but it was an excuse to do more Porsche content so why not!
      Thanks for watching and sharing your input though mate 🤙

  • @davidsean290

    This choice does not exist in real life for a first time Porsche buyer. You wont ever get an allocation for the GT4 unless you already have a “ relationship”with the dealer. You however have an allocation shot with the base 911 if you ask really nice and be patient. I waited for a 718 spyder allocation for 18mo no luck. I switch my ask to 911T got the allocation in 1 mo. That was my choice “settle” for the turbo charge more expensive 911T or no Porsche. Which one do you think I pick?

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  11 місяців тому +1

      That is a point I didn't really touch on in the video, but you are right. Getting a GT4 is harder than a 911, undoubtedly. The 911T btw, was the first 911 I was able to drive on the road. Brilliant car!

    The 992 can do an easy software ECU tune, it will smoke the GT4 on acceleration. If NA is that awesome, then why Porsche made the Turbo S and GT2RS? It’s simple physics.

    • @Vermonstered
      @Vermonstered 10 місяців тому +2

      Said someone who doesn't know how to drive and only has a lead foot. No one who actually drives cars where GT PCars are designed to be used needs to be told why they're amazing and why you'd have one over a Carrera and a turbo S.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  10 місяців тому

      I think the NA is a brilliant platform, as is the turbo platform. It’s awesome for the sensations, the noise, the vibration, the linear acceleration. The turbo is nice and torque, gives insane amounts of power, different driving dynamics. I think it comes down to personal preference, there are pros and cons to both
