wow, I had not idea drum hits were referred to as notes. Not that I know much about drumming. I create drum patterns for my own music, but it's strictly based on what I like, and what I know from listening to music. But I never understood hi hat patterns, so this is interesting.
I really do love these videos, they help tremendously and it's great to have multiple views but there's one more I'd like to see, especially on this one, and that's a cam even angled with the hi hats themselves so I could watch the opening and closing and how far they're being opened and closed. Still, really great video and thank you for having these up to help people like me ;) :)
Most drummers have no concept of opening and closing the Hats on individual 16th notes while still keeping time- especially involving syncopation. David Garibaldi of the band 'Tower of Power' was a master of that technique, but only a few other drummers know how to do it. You should be able to open and close the Hats on any beat in virtually any groove! After doing it for decades, I'm still learning new techniques that I never hear anywhere!
do you always hit the high hat on open ? i thought i heard a high hat be hit on close then immediately open it without hitting it again, is this wrong?
@Tripletblast They're updating their videos for their "drum lessons" channel. They have new and better equipment and better sound! Lemme know if I'm wrong Jared :/
I have a question about high hats. If anyone can help, it would be great. I do want to give the warning though that I am new, so if the question is dumb, I do apologize
i think it'd be helpful if you could show us another camera angle so that we could SEE the different ways that you hit the cymbal
@Dane Alberto nobody cares

Your videos are so helpful! Thanks!!
Damn your drums/recording sounds AMAZING.
@ThexteraDrummer Try what "anonomousness" said, and play loosen, don't grab the sticks with too much grip.
But like how open is it? Fully no weight on the pedal? What if your hat cymbals are over an inch apart? Still fully open?
Stop reading that changing top comment and pay attention
I see your videos. I press like.
NICE VIDEO
I loooooooove your videos Jared! (=
Is there any technique to play ex 2 beat with good hihat foot technique coz if we play that beat for 2 3 min our left leg start to burn.
If you found something, I might be interested haha
When you lift your foot, or when you pull it upwards, do you pull up the ball of your foot, or your toes, or your whole foot?...
It looks like he uses heel down for longer open splashes.
That's a pretty professionlly made video!
So nice im learning drums i was 5 or 6 years old now im 7
This is tricky though to keep time as well
do you always hit the high hat on open ?
i thought i heard a high hat be hit on close then immediately open it without hitting it again,

2:50 exercise 2
Take a look at the sheet music and ..take note .
Somehow I seem to do the last excercise only when I start at the & of 2
I still wasn’t clear if keeping your foot down keeps the top cymbal down or lifts it.
Closes it. Lifting your foot raises it.
"Your homework for this week is to listen to Abba records"
Hey Jared! Let's hear some Jazz!
I can play the drums. I have played them for a long time but I don't know how to open the hi hat and put full force when opening them. Why is that?
Practice doing that specifically until it becomes second nature
hello.
Qhy he look like davinxky
hey I am a drummer and I was wandering what drum kit u use eg: CB drums, Yamaha, Pearlso please tell me if u read this message , thanks
I read this message. I use a Pearlso drum kit. You can stop wandering.
Begiiner ? sounds better than anything ACDC made
Dynamic hihat..

So my main problem is that I'm using ZBT's and will never really hear a great sound out of them no matter what I try, correct?
