My biggest problem here is to keep the movement smaller when the speed gets higher because I probably want to play with the same volume subliminally. Still looking for a mindset to master this!
Hi Moritz. Maybe you have to think in 2 different sound zones :-) If all strokes should be the same volume then hi-hat with 2 hands when it gets faster or with one hand in a slower tempo. If you're looking for that accented, unacceneted sound, play faster with one hand. Hope that helps? //Simon
@@ThomannsDrumBash Thanks! I am aware of the accented/unaccented sound, but I meant the overall volume. When I play higher speed, the strokes should get smaller and thus they lose volume. Then my brain thinks that it needs more volume and I start bashing and losing control and endurance.
Anderson Pak on his tiny desk... for come down... good lord the man is a drum machine playing 16ths and singing. Just SMASHING out that groove. I gotta know how to do it!
One of the hardest things I have been facing on the drums. I realised after 4 months that I can do that when I keep my hand tight enough to hold the sticks but loose enough to swing like a feather.
Good video! This is essentially the Moeller technique. I’m in the middle of learning it now. Without it I was starting to get pain in my wrist, arm, and elbow when playing fast high hat eight and sixteenth notes.
Hi Simon. Thanks. I think the following songs are great: - John Mayer - Why Gerogia (for a slower 8th note rhythm to learn) - John Mayer songs in general are great to practice that :-) - The Roots - You Got Me (feat. Erikah Badu) - Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (faster 8th notes) or Jam (for Bass Drum Independence)
My goal is to do a shuffle with my non dominant hand at 189 bpm for a duration of 3 minutes like Ringo did on "what goes on". My muscles burn out in either hand in this static position. Singing his part I can do.
So do i do it with the left hand too? My right hand is fine but my left lets me down for fast 16ths because its just hammering constant downs without the tap
tips for accenting on the + (ands) for 8th notes and not on the up beats (1234)? Ive been accenting with velocity and now im trying to get rid of that habit but now I cant play simple beats together with my kick drum like I could before without using this technique. but I know I should change to this
@@ThomannsDrumBash I think the A Custom is much more brighter. The Xist has a good mix between dark and bright. I'll find they both Hats has a nice chick sound.
Hi. The Hi-Hats in this video are: 13“ Istanbul Agop Xist Brilliant 13“ Istanbul Agop Xist Dry Dark 16“ Meinl Foundry Reserve Which one do you like best? //Simon

Great lesson. Time to practice. Its about to get these smaller and smaller movements when it goes faster. Thanks
Great techniques Simon! I personally use some of these especially when I am playing Tom Sawyer!
Yes! Absolutely. That’s a great groove to practice the technique. //Simon

What snare drum are you using? It sounds really cool!
Hi Marc! Thanks. It‘s a 14“x5,5“ Pearl Masters Premium Legend with a Remo CS Black Dot Drumhead. Which snare is your favorite at the moment? //Simon
@@ThomannsDrumBash I think that the Ludwig Black beauty is my favourite one, but I also like the Pearl sensitone raw brass.

Hi Benji. It‘s a 13“ Brilliant followed by a 13“ Xist Dry Dark! Which one do you like better? //Simon
Thanks, clearly the Brilliant. You would say this Hihat sounds like Zildjian K Hats ?
Hmm..for K hats it maybe sounds a little to bright don‘t you think? Maybe they are more on the A Custom kinda side? //Simon
