Manual VS Automatic Transmission In The Mercedes C43 AMG

An in depth look at the various transmission modes in the facelift Mercedes C43 AMG - comparing all of the AMG Dynamic Drive selects such as Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ & Individual - and what they're actually really like to drive in the real world.
The 9G-TRONIC gearbox found in this C43 is paired to Mercedes' 4MATIC all wheel drive system, which sends near enough 400hp between the four wheels, produced from the Biturbo V6 engine.
In this video I compare it to my previous Mercedes CLA 45 AMG and the ZF alternatives found in similar Audis and BMWs.

Which driving mode do you spend the most amount of time in when it comes to your own performance car and thoughts on how it drives? Overall I prefer it to the double clutch found in the older A45s and CLA45s.
About sport modes in Auto gboxes that hold the gears. That's the point of Sport modes, it's to increase the responsiveness and also in sport driving avoid going in a low gear, hold the gears as you will do in a manual. In Sport and Sport+, something I like of this one is that adapts to your driving, also in comfort, if you drive aggressively or more sportier in comfort, then hold the gears during some time, until detects you drive again in a relaxed way.
Also something I like, it's that manual mode it allows you to control the gears and not changing them automatically instead you reach the red line or that in Auto mode, if you use the paddles, at some time it will switch again to Auto, if you don't use them. Also you can switch to auto by using the gear lever to D(usual in all MB).
Only thing I don't like Sport, it's that the exhaust it's not in "performance" mode, you need to switch it on. Sport it's good for improving the engine/gearbox response, but without having that aggressiveness of Sport+ on the gearbox. To me Sport it's what will like to be "comfort" mode and Sport+, when I want to enjoy the car, but at the end usually I go between comfort and sport+.
What you comment about the modes button, true. That's why the AMG drive unit it's really great, allows you to move quickly and customize the main options easily. I thing it's good option and I use quite a lot.
One detail/Trick on "holding" gears. As the gearbox adapts to the driving in any mode. In comfort if you drive aggressively it will try to hold gears to improve responsiveness, nos as Sport or S+, but adapts the driving to how you push the gas pedal. If you have that situation it's holding gears but you want to go back to the smoothness, push slightly and release slowly the gas pedal, the gearbox will then switch to higher gear. Depending on how you push/release the gas pedal you will force to switch to higher gear. In Comfort it's more noticeable, in S and S+ it will be less as it will try to hold gears more to improve responsiveness.

I drive mine in either Comfort or Sport Plus. Hardly ever use Sport, Slippery or even Individual.
Still love my car lol! But I need to start using manual mode more at least in Sport Plus

Zubair Hoque oh I use the paddles all of the time...just not in manual mode for some stupid reason. Guess I’m too lazy to push a button lol.

Do you know much about the Brabus tuning kits? Trying to find out whether it would void the warranty or because its Brabus it would have its own warranty and be ok.
All I know is that they charge a fortune 👀 if they offer mercedes approved warranty then I’d suggest it, otherwise most professional tuners out there offer their own warranty

I’m trying to decide between a 2018 CLA45 and a 2018 C43 Coupe. Have a few questions I’m hoping you could answer since you have experience of both, albeit not the Coupe c43zzz but still... 1. which one is more fun to drive? I’m guessing the CLA since it’s a true AMG? Was the CLA a lot quicker than the C43? 2. In stock form, which out of the 2 sounded better/louder?
For pure driving, the CLA is marginally better, and also is a touch quicker too. The C43 sounds better, and a ‘18 without a particulate filter will sound even better still
What is the easiest best way to make your car sound better? Without having to do lots of stuff to it and that can be changed to original when you come to sell?

lmFaooo! buying a bmw in auto is and has been forbidden basically since the beginning of bmw. auto m models are for pussies imho lol... they also do not hold there value the same as a manual trans proper sports car. the new auto transmissions have improved since back in the day but.... a true drivers car will have a manual trans. they dont make as many manuals tho because no one knows how to drive them anymore. its a sad thing actually... also.. this car is auto with manual mode. Mercedes stopped making manuals since 2015. if you want a bmw in auto, please DONT order an M. true enthusiasts will thank you.
