My brother had a 1959 Johnson 5hp, and it ran great. He gave it to a Man who had a young family and he still uses it to this day!!! By the way, reverse was instituted by turning the motor 180 degrees.

    Buenas

I think you did it, but you put the top plug back in the bottom section before you pull the bottom filling hose from the bottom filling plug so that the oil doesn't drain back out on you. That oil was really quite dirty so something is going on in there. Great video as usual. I love how you show your mistakes as we all make them and that's how we learn. Keep that old girl going... they don't make them like that anymore and those old two strokes are far better to run (weight to HP) and maintain.

Hi Steve - some of these videos are edited together from several different services and I don't always capture everything on film (sometimes hitting the wrong button or setting) so sometimes there are slight continuity errors. Yes it's a good old motor that I managed to bring back from the brink of going in the skip with the help of Hugo in Malta. It's been fairly reliable ever since. Spraying adhesive into the carb didn't help though :/

Howdy from Sugarland Texas. I have a 90SPL Pre mix. I noticed that I am getting 2-Stroke oil residue all over the inside of engine cover and engine. However the engine runs great and never fouls plugs. What could be the problem ? Is this a sign that its time for a rebuild ? Even though it runs great.

I had a problem similar to that once. Turned out to be a very small hole in the fuel pipe going into the carb. I just cut about 10mm off the end and problem solved.
