Warranty Void On My 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Due To Mid Muffler Delete Mod? | Muffler Delete Issue
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лис 2022
- As you all know, my 2019 Dodge Challenger RT has the mid muffler delete mod. Recently I noticed a squeaking sound and took the car to the dealer. I was under the impression this mod did not void the warranty at any level. The sales manager who sold me the car reaffirmed that a mid muffler delete will not void any warranty but now the tables have turned.

I would say safely it’s just the active exhaust valves. I have had this issues since my R/T was stock. No exhaust mods or anything, complete bone stock, and it would do this at startup and moving at very low speeds. That was 3 years ago. Now, even with longtubes and a catback, it still does it, but nothing never concerning or came up about it. I get it it’s annoying, but experience, there’s nothing really concerning going on.
Thanks bro!!!!! The dealer was a complete d*ck and said my exhaust warranty was void. They wouldn’t even fix it lol. I’m glad to hear similar experiences today but I 100% feel finessed by Towbin blaming it on my muffler delete
@@TheGrimRunner that’s crazy as hell. Sounds like they wanted money out of you. I didn’t have a warranty when I got mine so I went straight to modding. Can’t say I know how that experience was.
@@bighomie95873 They’re absolutely full of it lol. I really feel like I got finessed because I never looked into what can be causing the squeaking. I’ve been on autopilot for a minute
@@TheGrimRunner understood bro bro. You live and you learn!
I have the same issue with my r/t, I just started hearing that noise a few months ago on my car. Thought I was the only one that had this issue . I only hear it when I start mine , n when I’m driving. Sometimes.
gr8 video and good to see you bacc brah. you a winner so fucc what that dealer say. easy fix
Thanks fam 💪🏾💯
Going into my purchase I already knew that I was going to change the exhaust. So I didn't even count on the warranty. So build it bro😤😤😤💯
Respect 💯
What's up runner fam? As we all know the mid muffler delete is one of our favorite mods. Recently I started hearing a squeak from the exhaust. The culprit appears to be the mid muffler delete based on the dealers findings. Watch the entire video as I provide details on what may happen if you get this mod. Thanks for watching and don't forget to SMASH the thumbs up!
If you still have your active exhaust valves, it's possible that is what is making the squeaking sounds every time the valve opens and closes. Mine were squeaking at low speeds whenever I touched the throttle on my 19' RT. After opening them up and applying white lithium grease, they have been silent ever since.
@@KeptRhyme29 this is most likely the problem same thing happened on my scat climbed under car sprayed it and it went away.
This video is how to fix the squeak from active exhaust : ua-cam.com/video/UyVGFDtu6fA/v-deo.html
@@nicholaspoole8688 Good looking!!!!!!! I’m tied of that sound so I’ll look to try this
@@KeptRhyme29 Bro that’s 100% how the squeak starts for me. Low rpm’s and when I hit bumps. Has my car sounding raggedy as a MF 😭
Great content liked and subscribed
Thanks fam! I appreciate it 💯
Yeah man I wouldn’t loose any sleep on it for real, once you start modify your exhaust on doing any other type of modifications I’m not even really concerned with the warranty, especially if you plan on caming it or doing anything seriously upgrading to the engine you good bro👍🏾👍🏾 great video as always
Thanks fam! I appreciate that 💯
@@TheGrimRunner all good bro!!! I’m looking at a cam and some long tube headers
I were told by 2 Dodge Stealerships ,that as long as the headers and cats are not touched the warranty is good,am in NC...
'22 Challenger here. I drove through a deep puddle during a storm. My right actuator went bad. I have a check engine light...on a '22. My bad there. BOTH Aiken, SC Dodge and Augusta Dodge managers told me the muffler delete would not void my warranty. AND ...told me where to get it done(same place). The wanesboro dodge I took it to said add mufflers or use mopar pipes, then come back for the actuator repair under Warranty.
May know this by now, but you should get a MFR-1 Active Exhaust Fix kit. About $100.00 shipped. The extra air flow from the mid muffler delete makes the active valve flaps, flap wildly. This causes chatter and even squeaking unless your in Track Mode, which pins them open constantly. The kit pins them open permanently so even when your in Eco or Sport, it won’t let them actuate. This of course also makes the car louder all the time as well but it works without throwing a code. They’re simple to put on too. Most exhaust shops will do it for cheap if you don’t have ramps. Some people try to wire tie them open but the kit is nice.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely look into this
Are you able to send a link of a good kit? Have a 2019 r/t and was looking on amazon but it seems like I can’t find the right one
Some observations after watching the video:
1. It's definitely is the active exhaust valve actuator squeaking. Mirrors what my 2019 did, both on startup and when tapping the accelerator at low speeds. The inside of the actuator is a spring and a butterfly valve. Both are made of metal and have direct metal-on-metal contact which creates the squeak.
2. In my opinion, the dealer's reasoning that it was caused by a mid muffler delete is a disingenuous excuse to void the warranty. These happen all the time on 100% stock exhausts, including mine. Changing the mid mufflers should not have affected the exhaust valve actuator, and I bet the dealer would hard pressed to prove how your mod caused the squeak.
3. Dealers are not really equipped to fix this relatively easy problem. If a dealer did agree to fix the squeak under warranty, their "solution" would be to either put an entire OEM exhaust system in it, or replace the entire valves. Either way it's over a couple grand for the exhaust or a grand for the valves. It's overkill for a squeak, but for some reason they don't service the actuator only replace it. Not only is it wasteful but it doesn't even fix the problem; eventually that new exhaust will squeak too.
4. Fixing it should be easy, and worth it. For how easy and cheap the fix is, living with the squeak is an unnecessary annoyance. If you like the active exhaust when it does work quietly, the right lubrication will silence the squeak for a very long time. Im approaching 3 years and no squeak has returned. If you like the exhaust at its loudest at all times, there are products like MFER-1 which mechanically keep the valves open.
Whatever you decide, it would be good to document it for others to see. These active exhaust valves are in a lot of Challengers and Chargers. SRT's had them since 15' and RT's since 17', so a good number of people will experience this sometime during their ownership and may receive little to no help from a dealer.
Keep up the great work, glad to see content coming out again👍
Man this is what I’m talking about fam. One hell of a comment with detailed and useful information! I was highly upset at Towbin and how they brushed me off with the squeak but had the nerve to get me to upgrade to a Scat Pack lol. I’m going to get down to the bottom of getting the squeak to stop. A few people have sent me some steps to rid of it. Thanks for always showing love and the content will keep flowing. I’ve had a lot of personal issues I’ve been dealing with holding me back but I’m ready to get back over the hill 💪🏾

How do you lubricate it
@@robriche7505 Unscrew the three 8mm nuts holding each active exhaust actuator. There will be a spring inside that you will have to remember its orientation when you reinstall. I used white lithium spray grease and a high temp grease to coat the spring and the valve. Once you lubricate it, make sure to work it into the valve by rotating it back and forth. Reinstall the 8mm nuts and you're done.
If you need a visual on the process, there are a lot of youtube videos on it. Just look up "Challenger/Charger active exhaust squeak fix".
Yessir I had an issue with my mid muffler delete on my 5.7 jeep. Had a horrible buzzing sound that only happened at 3k rpm. It drove me so insane that I just replaced the stock parts and moved on 😢
My 19 rt has been doing that for a while now and it’s stock exhaust. I want to say it’s the active exhaust flaps that squeak overtime on bumps and while it’s cold.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one going through it. My dealer refused to perform the work because I have a MMD smh
@@TheGrimRunner believe me it drove me nuts too, then reading threads and hearing other people with the same problem to either wd40 on the flaps like someone else here said or have an active exhaust “delete” which is different covers for it holding the flap open all the time .
@@specter5945 Thanks for the information fam. I’m definitely going to give a few things a try and see what I can do to fix it. Towbin are bastards for not fixing it because of my MMD smh
I just brought my brand-new RT home 3 days ago. I'm leaving it bone stock except for Katzkin leather seats that will be installed in 10 days.
My challenger does a rattle near the rear muffler, I’m bout to get a rear delete to get rid of that rattling sound.
I have a 2015 Challenger sxt tomorrow I'm getting windows tinted and in a few weeks I'm planning on getting a rear muffler delete and putting some chrome quad tips but eventually I wanna upgrade to a Scatpack definitely a widebody
Nice bro. I’m eventually thinking of upgrading to the widebody scat pack if the numbers are right 💪🏾
Magnuson warranty act is a law against manufacturers/ dealers, They haft to prove that your exhaust causes the problem. Sure headers block warranty work because the car has to be tuned, but a bolt on mid pipe etc .
Yeah Towbin is full of sh*t man
Before the squeaking noise it cuts off ,is that normal ?
@2:46 2:47
Right before the sound u talking about, mine cuts off but don’t make the squeaking noise
Maybe it would be best to look into an aftermarket exhaust? if theyre gonna null the exhaust warranty might as well get something that'll help your car perform and sound better
I 100% agree. I’m still debating on getting the Widebody Scat so we’ll see!
I think the exhaust warranty being voided is definitely not that big of a deal since very rarely do exhausts have major issues. Other warranty voids could be bad though.
You’re absolutely right on this 💯
I installed vibrant 1794 in place of the mid mufflers. My car was originally sold by Towbin Dodge as well.
Nice! How do you like the sound? I’m thinking of doing the mini race bullets
@@TheGrimRunner I love it, opened up that original tuned sound a bit. Still got a deep sounds a less raspy, flappy sounding. These scats with mid and rear resonator deletes sound "flappy" in my opinion. There`s also alot of forums with Dyno sheets show that MMD can take away about 20 HP due to backpressure loss.
@@RobertDeman-td2bt That’s what’s up fam. I’m currently exploring options for my exhaust until I upgrade to the widebody. I would love to hear how yours sounds!
Of course they void the warranty on the part you modded! That's always been the case.
My 2020 charger r/t has the same issue. It’s a known dodge issue and they’ve yet to fix it and it was before I even deleted my mufflers
My sxt with stock exhaust did the same thing. It went away eventually
I'm here for it! 👊🏾💀
Man! I don’t have any regrets but dealers are tricky lol
@The Grim Runner Lol I hear you man. I just got mine on the 24th finally. 6 months since I ordered the R/T 😑 lol keep hearing back and forth on mid muff delete voiding warranty so I'm just curious. I love the stock sound tbh. Loud enough for my neighbors when I come home at 12:45am 👀. Lol but yeah dealers are a joke for the most part especially lately.
@@DarksideRT So I’ll tell you right it off the bat it won’t void your warranty completely. It’ll void your “Exhaust Warranty”. The f*cked up thing bro is they played me. Reading the other comments it looks like this squeak is a simple fix that shouldn’t have anything to do with the mid muffler delete. My dealer refused to fix it smh
@The Grim Runner Woww that's some bs right there. Sorry that happend to you brother. Hope it gets rectified. 👊🏾
@@DarksideRT Thanks bro! Towbin Dodge is a piece of sh*t for denying to fix it. I couldn’t believe it
My dealer told me a mid delete wont void my warranty. I still haven’t gotten it done yet but i also have the same squeaking sound on mine. I was told it’s an actuator pin thats loose and can be taken out without even being replaced. You don’t necessarily need it.
Thanks for the info fam! I found out it was that part as well so I’ll look into getting it fixed. Towbin Dodge are some real d*cks for choosing not to fix because I have a MMD
It's the little flap under the car so when you step on the gas and the little flat open for the active exhaust to let more noise out but it's that little flap
Yup I’m working on a fix soon
@@TheGrimRunnerUpdate on this?
Those cars have active exhaust I forgot the name of it but it's that little flap under there my car doing the same thing right now as well
Active exhaust actuator
What’s up, bruh? I got a MMD on my Scat and added Dynomax race bullets…no issues on mine. But the comments about the AE flaps making the noise sound legit.
What’s up fam? This entire time the dealer had me thinking my MMD caused it. It’s been too much going on so I haven’t had a chance really sit down and research. Hearing everyone’s input today about the active exhaust really has me hot about Towbin Doge. They refused to even work on the issue because my exhaust is “modified” lol
@@TheGrimRunner Yeah that’s crazy. I haven’t really done the research on it to see if it’s valid, but I’m gonna ask my homie that sold me my Scat to see.
@@adubya75 I highly doubt it caused it. Towbin just didn’t want to do the work for free smh
@@TheGrimRunner Sounds like they’re hurting for money…but that ain’t got nothing to do with your warranty 😂
@@adubya75 😭😭😭😭😭
Oh yeah mine does that too even before I got the mid muffler delete if I’m not mistaken. But only on start up not when I’m driving. And I got my resonators taken off as well but I kept all my stuff just incase I can’t pass inspection 😂😂
Lol!!!!! I’m over here rolling bro. The part that’s making the noise is the actuator so it’s definitely possible without the mod. The dealer finessed me 😂
@@TheGrimRunner lmao 😂😂 well screw them and there finessing crap they can go scratch. Low key bro I never knew there was a exhaust warranty 😂
@@austin3751 Yeah they’re full of sh*t! They knew this issue was not caused by my MMD. I didn’t have time to research so I just ran with what they said. F*ck Towbin Dodge
@@TheGrimRunner bunch of clowns 🤡 😂😂😂
I got an MMD a few months ago, and I'm having this same issue. Got an oil change a week ago, and the dealer heard the sound, checked my exhaust, and knew what it was, then voided my exhaust warranty, which I don't care about. I just need this noise to stop. It makes the car sound busted. Ima try the WD40 method before I spend any money. Have you gotten it fixed yet?
I have not yet fam. I know it’s a simple fix, I just haven’t had the time to do it but from what I hear, WD-40 on the actuator should work!
I have the exact same sound when I first turn my car on for a cold start. However, I think mine is coming from the active exhaust valve. When I drive in eco mode, it sounds like a rattlesnake. When I put it in sport or track mode, the rattling goes away. I annoying for sure.
Definitely annoying! I’ve been hearing from the community that’s it’s an easy fix so I’m going to give the fix a shot. It looks like the active exhaust actuator needs to be lubricated
@@TheGrimRunner Sounds good! I’ll probably buy the stuff myself and work it👍🏽
@@x4tfxChallenger 💯
ok.. Have them fix that actuator and if it doesn't fix the issue, have them refund you, re diagnose it and now that the exhaust is confirmed to not be the issue.... They can stop being lazy and actually look for the noise rather then trying to look for a way out of doing work. If its not with the exhaust, still under warranty.
I’m pretty sure they’ll just void your warranty if it causes a major problem
I wonder if that's how dealers make a shit ton off people. See, if you do the mods yourself, you void warranty... but if you spend way more on the aftermarket dodge approved performance parts, I would be willing to bet the warranty will stick with no problem. Dodge themselves would be installing their approved way over priced mods.
Keeping my 19 5.7 8 speed stock but I did delete resonator and mufflers I hope I didnt void warranty it’s just exhaust noise no engine mods
It won’t void your warranty entirely but it does void a specific warranty if your dealer wants to be a d*ck.
As soon as you cut into the exhaust you void the warranty on the exhaust system only the rest of the car is still under warranty I asked at the dealership and that's exactly what they told me so I'm going to chop mine up I live in Arizona so I'm not worried about a warranty on the exhaust as far as rotting out or anything ,to dry here they stay perfect for a lot longer than the car will live
@@michaelbuteau4183 Yeah I knew it would be a possibility with certain dealers but before signing my paperwork they ensured this would not be an issue. I definitely got lied to to get the sale lol. No bite though because I know exhaust is an easy fix
Get some wd40 and lube the inside of the active exhaust holes on both sides and it’ll fix the problem my guy.
Thanks fam! Once you watch the video and hear the sound, let me know if you’re experiencing the same type of problem 💯
Yeah I could clearly hear the squeaking, I would just take it to a reputable muffler shop and tighten it up. Quick n easy.
Thanks fam. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with this so I got a few recommendations and fixes that should be easy. I’ll give them a shit next week!
What’s the update
The car with the prebuilt exhaust system that comes the factory is not supposed to be touched, the car was built for it, otherwise it can cause problems.
Same with oversized wheels in the back that people do, differentials have been known to blow out or axles to wear.
💪🏾💯
Mine is making the same noise but I have a cat back exhaust system, if you get yours fixed let me know what they do to fix it. Yes the sounds is very annoying.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! Mine is bad now. It’s the active exhaust actuator
@@TheGrimRunner What do you have to do to fix it ?
Go to an independent muffler shop, not a dealer, to repair the problem.
💪🏾💯
Just a Heads Up, any time you modify anything on your new vehicle that changes how it rides, sounds or performs, you void your factory warranty. Tuners, exhaust, engine modifications, large oversize tires all void your factory warranty. If something breaks or stops working because of the modification, you're SOS. Some dealers might let some of the modifications slide, depending on what was modified but they don't have too. Read the fine print.
💯💯
Warranty claims get denied, the whole warranty doesn’t get voided.
The warranty isnt voided. It voided the EXHAUST warranty. Of course if you replace their stock exhaust with an aftermarket part the warranty on your exhaust is now gone because the parts arent 100% original. Your should have known this all it takes is some common sense
I just got the 23 scat pac r/t
Congratulations! 🔥
Did you ever fix this issue, and if so what was involved exactly? I'm experiencing the same thing (at least it appears to be the same) on my 2017 Challenger rt since I did the Mfer-1 active exhaust delete
I haven’t fixed it yet but I’ll be getting around to it soon! This Christmas season had the family busy. I’ll definitely make a video when I do
@TheGrimRunner Good deal, look forward to it. Interestingly enough I've heard this on a few other Chargers and Challengers just by listening to dozens of videos and whatnot. The owners must not be aware because there is no mention of it. Had it up on a lift the other day when I swapped out my mufflers, and it's definitely coming from the actuators for sure. I'm really surprised there is very little info on this considering the amount of people that seem to have this problem
@@RC-jg2fz Right! I hate the sound because it makes me feel like my car is slightly raggedy even being new lol. It’s supposed to be as simple as lubricating the part. Someone in the comments posted a url to another video where the guy fixed it. I’ll find it and share but I’ll also make a video on it when I’m fixing mine
I mean, modifying a part and losing warranty on that part is normal. I wouldn't stress unless you're seriously worried about it breaking, then leave it stock until after warranty is expired. If you're not doing anything wild though your car should be safe. Enjoy the car and expect more of the waranty to be void as you modify.
I definitely understand your point bro! I took my car in for normal service (oil change) but also mentioned the squeaking since I’m still completely under factory warranty. They kept my car and when I picked it up they pretty much told me my exhaust warranty was voided for the MMD and refused to fix the actuator. I’m more upset at how much of a d*ck Towbin was lol. I’ve been sent a few fixes for the squeak so I’m not even concerned 💪🏾
@@TheGrimRunner Understandable. Can't be mad about the warranty stuff imo, but not to call and say "Hey we found this and sadly it's not covered cause it's not under warranty, but do you want it repaired" or something like that is wild.
Hopefully one of those fixes takes care of it, otherwise...Full exhaust time? LOL
nah the shop you went to just didnt do the work right
Maybe 🤷🏾♂️
Guy mods his exhaust, expects Dodge to warranty any type of noise. LOL.
Guy talks sh*t on another man’s page and makes himself look stupid. LOL.
will it void the warranty for any engine and transmission problems v
No. As long as it’s from the cat back. It will not effect your motor/trans warranty. Just the exhaust warranty. Which isn’t that big of a deal anyways.
🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭 alright man wtf every video I see of yours my shit is doing the EXACT same shit although my dealer and the sales director in my area recommend I do the mid muffler delete after I got my car to make it sound better….
Lol! They’re known issues with our cars unfortunately but I wouldn’t get rid of it for anything. Just have to take what comes with it 💪🏾
