I had forgotten about Khan Toke. The first Thai restaurant I ever went to when I was young. I went with my father. The woman who was talking, owners daughter was there. She was just a little girl. My father was trying to play with her. I told him these days you just can't play with other people's kids. My dad passed away in 1988 so that lets you know just how long ago this was when we were there. It was new and exotic to us then. Now there are Thai restaurants everywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I would really only agree with the inclusion of Swan Oyster Depot. How is there no Chinatown restaurant when San Francisco is known for its Chinatown (i.e. Sam Wo) also Tadich Grill should be here
Ryan Kong I agree Ryan. Tadich is the oldest restaurant in San Francisco, and yes, China Town has many of the best places to eat in SF. And Tommy’s Mexican restaurant is far from the best Mexican restaurants in the city!!!!!!!
That is what progress is. There has never been permanent nostalgia, permanent restaurants, in the history of the modern world. Sorry. Memories are important, so are dreams. Reality moves on. Make your own new memories now...that is the key.
Swan is a SF legend. Great seafood and friendly staff.

AD C....Khan Toke was the very 1st restaurant that I dined after moving to SF in 1994.
Your story was cool to read!
What about House of Prime Rib if we go for old style places?
I enjoyed this. If I'm ever in SF, I will most rightly seek them out.
Always go to Swan Oyster Depot. Incredibly fresh seafood and the staff is so friendly and helpful.
Those family owned Mexican places are so good a little dirty but really good food
This was when the city was actually nice and people took pride in where they live. It’s post apocalyptic now in some parts of the city.
What about Tadich Grill?
Awesome eating spots
Quite a culinary promenade!

Yes why no tadich grill
Sadly, little by little these bits of SF charm get washed away by "progress".
Yep. SF was a cool place through the 90’s. Since then it’s turned to a literal shithole.
That is what progress is. There has never been permanent nostalgia, permanent restaurants, in the history of the modern world.

I was hoping to see cafe cantata and enrico’s
Was I the only one that thought he was his dad in a black and white photo? The gene's are strong.
Mantap
HOPR needs on the list
Kick up a notch!!! SF rocks the boat!!!
Four Family owned legacies.
IMiss
How can survive a waiter in SF with the crazy rents now?
