    This is what I really like about Starcitizen, sharing development ideas that are still in "green light", or less than that. Do not stop keeping us informed of everything, we will always support this game, it is the most ambitious ever created to date. "Rome was not built in a day.."

      Well... Hopefully powered down means no gravity so that might not be needed... But I agree it should be a thing regardless...
      Edit: unless powered down is on a planet with gravity of course... Didn't consider that now did I.... Stupid...

      No power also means no gravity so you can just float up - though you have a good point if we're ever able to disable lift mechanics during combat or something

    I vote A or D for the 4 concepts. The idea of having people ride on the outside of the mining vehicle would is pretty awesome.

      i think the distances between the nodes are just too big. In a prospector u can fly up to 30-50 km untill u find a node thats worth mining, cant imagine driving this in a ground vehicle that goes 50 meters per second maxspeed. at least not to efficientcy. and those small FPSminables are even more rare.

    No one clapped when we saw the new engine design for the Carrack. Neither did I. The Carrack should have been base line for the other Anvil ships, not the other way around

    For concepts, I like the idea of the starter/small-scale refinery ship first, the Xi'an Cargo hauler second, the Tevarin Fighter third and then the ground miner.

    Fantastic panel! This should have been on the main stage, it's a highlight of Citizencon. Always great hearing John Crewe talk about ships with no holds barred. Their original Pisces with 2 SCU and 2 crew stations was a superior ship. I would much rather have had the two extra functional crew stations rather than 2 extra SCU.

    Thanks CIG- Love the "Lore reasons" explanation for the Pisces C8X upsell... That part sounded very rehearsed. Not that I blame the devs/and JC... this reeks of PR / Sales.

    JC - Why were you surprised about the Small Refining Ship getting "voted up"? a huge segment of the SC community want exploration and industry ships. We have plenty of fighters for now thank you.

      @Solve Everything I don't think we have any Xian ships outside of AoPoa even on the roadmap. It will be super interesting to see them develop something that is both a shared alien design yet distinct from the existing alien design.

    2 things:

    I have to say, this presentation really turned me around on the Privateer and the Carrack.
    I didn't really see why you would want a privateer over a standard Kraken before and the Carrack part made it look a lot better than what we got to see in the live gameplay parts of the Citizencon.

    That middle image of the Xian cargo ship actually looks pretty cool. Hope we'll see it maybe next year. I'm pretty sure we'll see all these concepts eventually anyway. They're all ideas that would make sense and are going to happen sooner or later.

    I like how they think hard about making stuff compact. Just the way spacecraft engineers have rocket fairings in mind when designing the probes and satellites.

    21:55 Learned that lesson from the Phoenix, I hope.
    As for the four ship concepts, aren't you gonna do all anyway and have to prioritize based on what is efficient? Refinery ship and mining vehicles come with additional gameplay mechanics requirements. (But very welcome to have those, I guess.)
    Also, how is the Xian ship "small" cargo with 300 SCU? If it looks anything like the concept, where would that much cargo even fit? It would be quite the large ship.

    "Argo Mole has double the amount of storage the MISC Prospector has" - the latter hasn't been out long and mining is nowhere near completed as a game mechanic - and already it's been superceeded.

      Not superseded, another alternative is available. The Prospector is a 1 person ship. The Mole is a 4 person ship. They fit slightly different requirements and have different benefits.

    Those ideas are all really cool - but I think the ground mining vehicle is the most needed as it fills a new role and will be necessary to do small-scale mining on the surface of hazardous planets when weather comes out

    4:55 "there's quite a few downsides with making the ship bigga' just to make it bigga'."
    Apparently, this logic doesn't apply to ships like the 600i. That ship started out near Constellation size in the concept and Foundry 42 bloated it up to a size 30% bigger than the concept and bigger than needed fit the components.

    Refinery ship would be awesome! Much more money to be made and it will become essential for any mining fleet, but could we build in some depth to the refinery game play? Refining metal in reality requires a catalyst, solution, and medium. catalyst would be something like acid that breaks down the metal in the solution. The solution would be the element used to separate materials so that the metal can be extracted. The medium would be something like a magnet or electrodes used as a way to extract the desired metal before melting and removing dross. This could be skill based on knowledge of the metals most effective refining process, timing on how long to let something heat, and where to cut off dross. All of this could add to the end purity percentage. On another scale you could have to choose which process to use to extract the most valuable metal. For Example: to refine gold you could use an acid which would breakdown iron. This might destroy the iron in process to make the gold pure. So you would have to choose gold or iron processing - or an sub step of processing that separates gold and iron to process separately. I would think this would require materials and a console interaction that does all the work - so this wouldn't have to add a lot of physicalization in game. The ship would need to be designed with a crushing process, vats of solutions and chemicals for processing, and a smeltery for melting down the metals for dross removal.

      the thing is just that, the Visual noise, is really heavy on your hardware. every polygon costs more power. and a large ship with a full interior like that
      already costs a lot of resources. its just a balance between resources and looks and everyhing

    The Carrack looks really good now, I was very surprised to see it keep all the features it originally had planned. It's really a fantastic ship. The Mole is exciting. And so is the refinery ship.

    Wouldn't a GravLev mining vehicle be a bit more practical? I actually really like the idea of the operators sitting on the outside. It could be like a tiny levitating mining platform with all the tools and storage strapped to it. Pretty simple and versatile.

      Or a 'remote' operated mining machine, controlled using a tablet or similar. Make sit short range (so the operator is standing next to it), would allow all the space to be dedicated to power and storage, etc.

      Not really efficient, when you have space ships that can do the same role. And before you say the same about the miner - this is, effectively, the kit that lets a lot of other ships do ghetto-mining (and provide more capacity than your 'personal storage')

    I'd like to see a refinery ship but I was hoping it could fit the Prospector in it to refine the minerals, that way you could fly the refiner with the Prospector in it and mine/refine on the fly.

      That would make it too specific to the Prospector - this design would be able to handle the pods from the Argo Mole too. Take the mining truck a step further, and it could be filling a single pod that is then ejected, meaning that it could - slowly - generate a set of pods to be refined.

    Option B is literally what I have been wanting in the game more than anything else really. I LOVE Xi'an ships. And I LOVE Freelancer-size cargo ships. I just... Give it to me, FEED ME MORE. I agree with the audience guy, we need more alien ships in the game. I'm tired of the endless onslaught of Anvil and Aegis. I like their ships, I really do, but variety is the spice of life. And Alien vessels are the most exotic spices.

    Can't wait for the day that the physics for the pool tables is done, and maybe a new card game or two invented for the verse when travelling and off duty. Recreation & interaction over a game. That would be cool. People will end up betting UEC on card ganes, so long as it doesn't get out of hand, would make for an interesting feature, kind of pirate-like. Could also have dice games.. just a thought.

      Because they wanted it to be small, so we din't have to spawn it on the same size pads as an 890j, they say so in the video. So they had to make it shorter and fat, also why it lost over 50% of it's cargo and stairs to the bridge was replaced with a small 1 mans elevator. Like it wasn't important that people could get to the bridge fast...

      @@-JustHuman- I don't disagree with the elevator complaint, but thinking rationally about it - it's an exploration ship, not a combat ship, expeditious bridge access would be nice, but not super necessary IMO

      @@MrMarbles320 It's more than speed. It's also more stable to use and would make more sense as less work is needed to have stairs function, than a elevator. And so far we have not seen any other way to get to the bridge. Then there is the gameplay of lifts being really bad, and they kill more people than guns in the game right now.
      Also my biggest dislike with the Hammerhead, as again they use a lift that takes ages, could crush a man and would give intruders a bigger advantages than the defenders.

    We need a large ship that’s not so limited that only script kiddies that resell these ships on eBay can get them on an anniversary sale, even when people with the money are ready for these ships, we can’t seem to get them without a script running. Thanks.

      @@EasytheGoon There will be more variety of caves, some even vertical to hide the ships.
      In the future CIG can make caves too small for the ships but wide enough for small land vehicles.

    ALSO FYI this sort of Pick the ship you want! This is How we Got The Vulture, the Star Runner, the Mercury the Hercules & the Kraken. We will be getting ALL of these concepts at some point, its just a matter of In what order.

    A ground mining vehicle should be a fair bit bigger. I would say the mining vehicle AND it's lift frame should be a two-part system but it not have much internal cargo space.

    The crowd was probably right in their sentiments, re. importance of those 4 options. I myself will definitely want the little ground-rover mining vehicle. If that would fit in the back of a Cutlass (let alone a Max)? Woo-hoo. Perfect. But even more vital for game roles & economy, is the Refining function. I think the consensus popularity choice here reflects more the lack of any ships at all in that role so far, rather than great superiority of this exact ship concept.

    Should be a long table in the crew habitation area. With some seats. Otherwise the crew can't congregate for conversation in off hours in there.

    Hands down on the mining vehicle. I will also second getting a refinery vehicle to go hand in hand with the existing Prospector and hopefully the ground vehicle as well. The ground vehicles should be able to carry the same pods the Prospector has. Otherwise there would be another way to transfer storage.

    The Carrack got shrunk.... Great....
    I want a balanced multi-crew ship that can at least hold something the size of an Avenger or 300; If they were struggling to design a poorly armed 4-SCU shuttle to fit the hangar's dimensions, then i'm not keeping my hopes up.

      It didn't get shrunk, It grew too big, then they returned it to the original size by removing dead space. What you are describing already exists in the form of the 890 Jump and the upcoming Polaris corvette. Both are designed to hold a small fighter like the 300 or Avenger. The Carrack was always supposed to have a snub craft, so the fact that they were able to give it a fully functional exploration shuttle is a big plus.

      ​@@jenathan76 The 890 jump is a luxury craft that wastes a ton of practical space while costing as much as an Idris, and the Polaris is more of a missile boat that happens to have a hangar. What i want is something in the same size/price range is the Carrack, that'll work as a functional small base without massive compromises.(like the expenses that'll probably be associated with the Polaris, or trying to use an economic ship as a makeshift carrier)

    Shutter system really should have used a "chin bar" that would drop down in front of the ship and partially retract.

    Having the Kraken Privateer as a mobile station would mean you would have to add in NPC shop dealers and NPC's wandering around / etc
