    I am new to laser cutting and found your tutorial very helpful and 'simply' explained for a newbie such as I.

    Awesome tutorial thank you so much - I assumed this would be so much harder but you've explained it brilliantly! I think the primary aged children I teach will be able to get their teeth into this!

    I wish I knew about the union and difference tools earlier! Thank you so much! I am now able to design a carousel for my grandma for Christmas! Thank you!!!!

    Thanks all for comments--I hadn't been back to it for a while and glad to see that it has been helpful (and that people outside of my class at Notre Dame have actually watched it)!

    Thanks for the tutorial. I was able to whack together my own generic 5 sided box in about 15 minutes total from a blank sheet in inkscape to gluing the finished parts together using a GlowForge.

    Thanks for this. I was looking for a tutorial to make a tab and slot joints in Gravit, and couldn't find one, but this looks like a general method applicable to other software as well.

    Excellent video very helpful. I recently bought a CNC plasma cutting table and was considering buying solid works cad, but I think Inkscape might work just fine for now.

    Thanks for this video. I have a laser on the way and have been deciding what software I will start using. I think Inkscape will be a good starting point and thanks to your video I am already designing a project. One question - when designing tabbed joints like this, does the laser's kerf cause the tabs to fit the slots loosely? If so, how do you compensate?

    Thanks for that mate, how would you cut out holes within the object and measure the distance from the edges.

    Thanks for this video! I recently purchased a Glowforge and it's hard to find information about generating finger joints. Do you change your grid to accommodate actual thickness of material? For example, I often get "quarter inch plywood" which is actually 0.20" / 5.16mm thick.

      I have a Glowforge and was wondering the same thing for my 1/8 in acrylic.

    that was all great and simple, but don't you need to export it as a DXF for laser cutting?

    Thanks, I learned some new tricks. How do you take into account the kurf so you can pressfit the box?

      This is good for being methodical and emphasizing geometric dimensioning and tolerances, but this can all be automated using a script like this boxmaker plugin --> www.keppel.demon.co.uk/111000/111000.html

      @TJF2005 10 років тому

      Very True or boxmaker.rahulbotics.com/! Now, what if you need the geometry other then rectangles, say a hexagon? Sound like we need to write some script to do this automatically.

    Hi, great tutorial, thanks for making it, Just wondering what other tool or application is connected to the laser cutter after you save it as PDF file??? I really appreciate if you let me know...Thanks

    Trying to figure out how to use the “difference” and it keeps cutting the wrong side out.

    6:10 In my prac lab pc, path>union is unioned only when two object selected but not more than 2 why then how you do it ??

    my box the red one, goes behind the blue box and when i hit difference it deletes the blue box...

  • @rayslover8526
    @rayslover8526 2 роки тому

    I can't get this to work. Every time I drag the red piece over the blue one the tab goes behind the blue one, then the difference tool erases the blue one.
    I'm trying to learn Inkscape and nothing bleeping works how it does in everyone's videos. I'm getting so frustrated.

  • @karadanvers6136

    i couldnt fix it but i made a square and it overlapped, and used difference but how you did in the video doesnt work. :(

      I used Camtasia from Techsmith (www.techsmith.com) to record the video. I also use a Microsoft Surface Pro as a hardware platform for making videos. Here's a link to a video I made on how I record videos on the Surface ua-cam.com/video/hDzUGKR3zr8/v-deo.html
