I met Christian in Italy 2 years later in Ancona, as he was teaching a dozen young jazz guitarists how to improvise. The session lasted one week and I was his translator. Great guy with an immense talent. He had a fond memory of the time he spent with John McL. He remembered how, while touring in Rio, John jumped in the sea and managed to rescue a swimmer that was drowning in the huge waves of Bara de Tijuca.
When asked by the Italians who was the best jazz guitarist, Christian surprised everyone when he answered: it's a tie between a very young gipsy named Birelli Lagrene and an older one named Raphaël Fays. No one had heard of those guys yet but today it appears Christian was right about Birelli.
I really miss him and his terrific sense of humor.

Wow! A great concert from a tour that I had only read about. Very exciting watching and catching up with this. Thank you for posting.
If I can contribute a little to the Track List:
    00:00 Manha de Carnaval
/ Morning Of The Carnival (Luiz Bonfá)
    03:12 Frevo (Egberto Gismonti)
    09:24 Lotus Feet (John McLaughlin)
    16:10 Thelonius Melodius (John McLaughlin)
24:00 Electric Dreams, Electric Sighs (John McLaughlin)
    28:18 Gloria's Step (Scott LaFaro)
    36:36 The Dolphin (Luiz Eca)
43:13 Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Charles Mingus) False Start
44:56 Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Charles Mingus) Take 2
50:57 Meeting Of The Spirits (John McLaughlin)
    Encore
    1:12:26 Guardian Angel (John McLaughlin)
If anyone knows the name of the missing track then please do let me know! And despite my not knowing the name of the composition, it seems the best interplay and fun judging by the reaction of the players.
Addendum: Incidentally, it took me a while to recall the title "Gloria's Step" by Scott LaFaro. I first heard a very different version on Larry Coryell's 1969 Planet End album that featured McLaughlin.

Two jazz guitar virtuosi, no cutaway. Very rare today!

Amazing ! Only drawback was that John preferred to use an Ovation guitar with a built in pickup instead of full acoustic “cru” like Escoude who worked harded for velocity. Love em both!
