      In Spain we are also destroying Italian pasta and pizza, but not as much as Domino's (for example, it is typical here to put cream on carbonara). I wonder how Domino's dared to try to sell pizza to Italians. They should change the name of the product. They are making a greasy sweet round bread with weird toppings.

    Good vid. I travelled Italy and ended up living and working on Sardinia with my gf for 6 months back in the 90's. My boss, Massimo, took us to all of the best places, wine and pizza were central. The way Ava made her pizza brought back memories, sometimes less is more. If we'd been to a bar we'd queue up at a late night pizzeria and get a slice (rectangle of course), they'd curl it into a cone and wrap it in paper so that we could eat it like an ice cream, lush.
    The US versions are soooo corporate and processed. You'll only get a decent pizza in New York or New Jersey and even then they're no where near as good as in Naples or Cagliari. The secret is freshness, simplicity and no additives.

  • @Onnarashi
    @Onnarashi 4 місяці тому +13

    "Is salami a vegetable?"
    No, she's talking about the fact that Americans falsely believe that "pepperoni" is salami in Italian, when peperone means bell pepper (paprika). The word "pepperoni" is an American misspelling of peperone, which has nothing to do with salami. If you went to Italy and asked for "pepperoni pizza" you'd get a pizza with peperone (bell peppers) on it.
    "American but Italian."
    So, an American? Italian-Americans are Americans, not Italians.

    With Italian food, the quality of the ingredients and the cooking process are what matters. No offense, but American staple foods are generally of poor quality and tasteless, which is why so many dried spices and large amounts of them are used in addition to sugar and salt to mask the poor quality of meat and vegetables. The food is adapted to a highly automated agriculture and industrial food processing machinery, and the shelf life is chemically extended. Taste and aroma are secondary. More important is flawless fruits and vegetables of the same size and color. The food is not made for humans, but for the trouble-free operation of machines. It's all about the money.

    every "pizzeria" in italy does delivery, so here is not a thing like "fast food pizza", but, you can also have pizza fastly in shops called "pizza al taglio"... there you can buy the pizza you want and pay for it based on weight, kind of sliced pizza but not with fixed size of slice... and of course, they also delivery. i don't mean any harm in saying that, but the the difference in quality of the ingredients is just like day and night between America and Italy, because of that when american try "real" Italian food most of them are amazed, but you can't say the same when Italians try American food ( or american version of other country food). hope this answer your question =)

    Ouhw, "Alfredo sauce" sounds to me like the "beer sauce" offered in "German" restaurants in the US with pretzels. Highly unauthentic. I have posted several clips how to enjoy German pretzels like in Germany (plain, with a beer, or with butter, jives, and/or slices of cheese). We never dip them into anything, neither "beer sauce" - inexistent in Germany - nor in sweet mustard which is only for white sausages made of veil. The beer sauce I tasted myself in Ohio and Pennsylvania was tasty though but it's an American invention. I wouldn't even call it "inspired by Germany". So, what's this "Alfredo sauce" made of? Maybe it's lovely, who knows. - Garlic: Authentic Italian cuisine uses garlic rarely only with Bruschetta or tomato salad. It's never in any pizza I can think of.

    In Italy you can find "pizza al taglio" it's the street food version of the normal pizza. The pasta is usually a bit ticker and it's quite different from a regular pizza. It's usually baked in the same way as bread, while a good pizza it's baken in a wood oven. The most important difference between any kind of Italian pizza and that mess by Domino's is that we make it simple, without too many ingredients. Note: I can eat pineapple pizza and I've also eaten at Pizza Hut in France. Just I don't call it Pizza. It's another meal. Anyway the worst pizza I've even had was at the Trafford Center in Manchester(UK). It was an Italian restaurant, onwed by an Italian with an Italian chef. I told them "now I understand why you have opened this restaurant here. In Italy you would have it shutdown after less than one week. So in the end, a bad Italian pizza can be worse than Domino's (not very likely but possible)

    Pizza is a good yeast dough baked hot and cross with well-seasoned tomato sauce and a few vegetables or ham topped with a little mozzerella. The Americans turned it into some kind of dough, with lots of toppings and even more cheese, all somehow made warm. The two are worlds apart. But even in Italy, pizza is not pizza, not all Italians like the original from Naples, but that is the case with all food.

    For an added subtle flavor let your garlic age a bit so that the cloves start to sprout. Shuck the skins and remove the green sprout before dicing and crushing. Bonus if the clove starts to have light purpleish highlights before prepping. It's a softer but slightly different flavour. So good.

    I'm from the Netherlands and we unfortunately have both options. A large number of (former) Italian run pizza restaurants, and most big international chains. There is just no comparison. Italian style pizza I eat with pleasure, the NY Pizza, Domino's and others I only eat in emergency, when I really need the food and have no other options. Besides the taste, it's especially the messiness which puts me off.

    There are places in the United States where they do good pizza, of course! But not in fast food restaurants. I usually make it at home every Saturday, it takes very little and it's very easy. Even my 7 year old son can do it!
    However, in Italy it is difficult to find a place where you eat bad pizza. In Naples it's another planet

    I had an American pizza from an "Italian" restaurant in New York twice... It's not "disgusting", it's not even BAD... but only if I can eat it without thinking about real pizza... I had to think I was eating some exoctic American special dish, because there isn't nearly nothing that remind me pizza except that it's circle shaped.
    So I can say it's not that bad, but it's not pizza, it's a special American dish they called pizza because of the shape

    Hi guys. A bit unfair really. American food's, recipes etc and fast food was evolved and made by and for all of the Immigrants arriving in the USA over the years.
    I'm an older Englishman and had a 11 year relationship with an English/Italian guy back in the 1980's. His parents were Italian Immigrants to the UK arriving in the 1950s. His wonderful mum and dad taught me how to cook Italian food the Niapolitan way and I still cook Italian food that way and friends love it.
    The UK is blessed with a multitude of foods from all over the world (not just in London). Food's from what were Empire countries i.e India for example are available in "Indian" restaurants and takeaways but they are food's that fit the UK palate. They have name's that are unheard-of in India and South Asia. The same goes for Chinese, Italian, Spanish and everywheres food's served in the UK.
    I'm not in any way saying that "modified" food to suit a foreign palate is better, it just works better commercially, it's what the customer wants. 😊

    Here's one thing I've never understood about Americans ordering delivery pizza:
    Why would anyone order pizza with garlic bread as an appetizer and then cinnamon buns or whatever for dessert? I've seen that a lot but it's like having bread and bread with your order of bread. I'm German so I LOVE bread but that seems a bit...monothematic.

  • @rashomon351
    @rashomon351 4 місяці тому +2

    ok, I'll have to admit, I'm German. Pineapple on pizza (or a sandwich for that matter) has a special place in German cuisine after WWII. It also has it's own name in Germany. Anything with pineapple on top is called "something"-Hawaii. So, if you'd ever order Pizza Hawaii or Toast Hawaii in Germany, don't be surprised of what you'll get ;)
    While the German culture and cuisine is heavily influenced by Italy (remember the Holy "Roman" Empire ?), this may be something where we diverged from the original ;) It may not be Italian, but still I like it. And how would you ever bond to an Italian but by a dispute over cooking recipes ? Greatest people ever, I love that country!
