Great to see that Pioneer can make a controller that works on both softwares! I personally disagree with you though. I feel that if you have an existing controller like the SB3 or better, and are looking to upgrade, look into spending the extra money for something like the DDJ1000. Worth the money, and XLR main outs and the same jogs as CDJ’s are unbeatable in a controller.
Don't let the xlr outs stop you from getting one of these if that's the only issue. Almost all controllers are not balanced. In order for balancing to work, both pieces and the cable have to be balanced. If you don't have all that, the connection is single ended, and even though you are using the xlr jacks, its the exact same thing as using regular rca cables. The 3rd pin on the xlr cables are not used. I have a DDJ 1000. The xlr outs on it are not balanced. If you need a real balanced connection to plug into something like a night club system, its not a problem. You can just use a direct box (DI). That converts the signal to balanced after it leaves your controller to make it compatible with the other components.
I actually could see the use for that! As a DJ tutor, it bugs the shit out of me having to reccomend $1200 controllers for people that want bigger jogs and more channels, but don't need a studio grade interface or a CDJ build quality.
And with the absence of XLR outs, it will stay firmly in its target market as it will never be considered professional grade. Therefore it has its place, and shouldn't be much of a threat to more professional DJs.
Call me what you want, but this genuinely looks like one of the best beginner DDJs out there so far. I'm not gonna upgrade from the DDJ 400 that I'm getting, but this looks amazing.
if you want a 4 channel mixer, this might be a cheap option. But for the price, the offer would be too expensive for me. The device is basically an improved version of the DDJ-400. but the difference in price doesn't justify the few improvements. Save a bit more and use the DDJ-800 or DDJ-1000 if you want a pioneer device and depending on whether you prefer 2-channel or 4-channel. Or one is still waiting for the new advanced controller products from Pioneer.
I think that it is too expensive for the quality build, the small pitch fader, the small pads and nothing new except for the FX knob. Other labels have more and are cheaper.
@@1ntotheunknown841 the master out was it for me. Professional audio equipment should always have professional quality outputs like xlr or 1/4 inch. That’s why I can’t buy any of the budget controllers. Pioneer would do better to leave out some flashy features and give these cheaper controllers real outputs.
Like give me a decent price with a mixer two decks and maybe some fx with good outputs and that’s a budget controller I would buy. That’s what’s important
So you're telling me I should just keep my DDJ-SR2? coming from a 23 year old DJ... honestly I do magic with my DDJ-SR2, it's just that my only complaint is that, I want a bit bigger size dj controller deck, and the DDJ-FLX6 looks tempting but I see a lot of downside in it.
Hey dj carlo I have been djing for 4 years and I'm only 12 you really inspire . me you are the one who inspired me to start scratching and PLUS THE DDJ FLX6 IS THE FUTURE MY BRO ❤❤❤❤❤shoutout to for being amazing
I’ve had it for about half a year now and really it needs 1. Better ports 2. Better volume faders 3. Better hot cue pads ……. I recommend just getting the 800 for the price
I can’t get over the build quality, The jog wheels are super scratchy loud and miss aligned and the volume faders feel like I could snap them by breathing on them, in New Zealand they costed me 1500$ brand new and for that price I shouldn’t be worrying about these things. Disappointed
@@djcarlo exactly, what was wrong with the ddj 1000 or any others? Its just a way to market a “new” cheaper version. Full size jogs but i bet they feel a lot cheaper.
@@TC-zi2yp some people might not wanna spend extra on a 1000 when all there using for is the bedroom... All pioneer stuff is the same layout...if I didn't have 2 xdj700's and my traktor stuff.. I'd rather this
Bull's eye :) A DDJ-1000 mk2 would have been better, with FX Frequency buttons and other features of the DJM-900NX2. Pioneer DJ, the best company at downgrading products.
The idea of a cheaper 4 channel controller is good, but for me pioneer kinda failed some things. they could remove this interesting, however also a little bit useless merge fx which can easily be replaced by some more beat fx and therefore lower the price to about 450€. Put some more outputs on the back like an xlr for more variability, make the design smaller and boom the price fits the product well. Less effects or a smaller design for 4 channels is a deal which many people are going to accept that are not willing to buy the ddj 1000 due to the price. The price for the flx6 is kinda too high for the target group i think.
For its dual compatibility, I think this a great controller for small clubs and bars. Much cheaper option than buying two controllers for RB and Serato.
@@juice3185 You should always run your controller thru a good audio interface any ways imho. then BOOM it'll sound better than a top of the line Pioneer unit. I would never run my audio directly out of my controller. I always use an audio interface. The sound card on a $2k Pioneer controller will sound pretty poor compared to my Apogee interface.
you know what at the end of the day ppl that are dancing to the music u r playing don’t care if u r using 2 or 4 channels they could care less if ur using 2 eggs to DJ as long as ur mixes are clean and music selection is dope who cares …only DJs care because they are criticizing
I think it will do what it was designed, targeting a specific audience which is good...beginners working their way up. The DDj Sx2 is older, but it does more. Good review.
If you use the 1000 for mobile gigs this isn’t a bad thing to stick in your room to practice on. If I didn’t already have a home setup I’d consider this.
In general I don't like the look of Pioneer controllers, but this unit really looks gorgeous! Not that that matters, but still it's really a nice look.
i like the jog weels and the fact that it can be powered by your laptop with the usb cable. The rest is a bit gimmicky but fun for a beginner. I would give it a rating of 7/10 but i still prefer another controller like the ddj 1000
Id like to see more towards the nexus quality at a cheaper price point. Not 16 different controllers that look the same and are 100$ difference in price
Thanks for the great review, I wanted to get my hands on one, but now I am having second thoughts. The ONE valuable redeeming point for this controller is the ability to use Serato and Rekordbox. I wish Pioneer would understand there are many DJs that want to use either tool depending on the event, music style, preference or feature availability. I would happily pay a nominal fee to "unlock" my controller of choice to use both. This is akin to the mobile carriers locking you into a phone. It's an archaic and draconian way to maintain a customer base, handcuffing us to a single solution is a great way to motivate anyone to look elsewhere. In regards to the tech, I think the FX wheel is a novel idea for beginners to impress a party crowd, but without the ability to accurately time your drops it could easily backfire when it misses a break or brings the music back on an odd note. Also, no external input for an iPad or source? There have been a few times I have been rescued from computer carnage by cutting over to a track on a spare device while I CTL+ALT+DEL, however I get this may not be a consideration for a beginner / party DJ device. My final note, no RGB pads - seriously? Fine for beginners but as you step up your game and create your set, RGB pad colors are a necessity. Skimping on this minor cost in manufacturing has me saying "no deal"...
Can you please help me understand to this? I just started to dive into this world a few days ago, so I’m lower then beginner😂 or maybe it’s because english is not my first language, but I feel like I’m missing something. You said that you wish that Pioneer would understand that some DJs would love to have the freedom to use both Serato and Rekordbox on the same controller, but @carloatendido said in this video that this controller brings both software on this controller, so what am I missing?🤔 Thank you in advance
The only thing that makes me not want this as a club dj is the lack of outputs I don’t really want to have to drag along a mixer on the side I may as well put that extra cash into a controller with xlr and 1/4 output
To me it looks like a bedrrom controller. There's defenetly outputs/inputs missing, independent power source (if PC crashes), .. As Mobile DJ I think it is not the one to go with. But the scratch effects are quite interesting and new on the market 👍
It's not meant to be a replacement or in the same category as a professional controller like the SX3 or DDJ-1000/SRT. It takes the limitations of the entry level control and expands it a bit so a beginner DJ can experience a 4 deck setup and large jog wheels.
I would like to upgrade from the DDJ 400... I think ill would buy the DDJ 1000 instead of the DDJ-FLX 6.. What do you mean about that decision for a Beginner who dosnt want upgrade after a few months. I think that the DDJ 1000 is The best what you can have for a little bit more money.
I upgraded from sb3 to 1000srt. The quality is incredbile. But if you're into larger club like controllers then go for it ! Bare in mind it is quite pricey
@@winghongauyeung9801 I dont have personal experience with ddj800 or ddj1000 (looking to buy the ddj1000), but they seem a lot more proffesional than this one. Also ddj800 if youre okay with having only 2 channels, but personally I would get the ddj1000 so I could master 4 channel mixing techniques (I dj techno and dnb so mixing with 4 channels is not necessary but kind of crucial)
It does look pretty cool. Personally, I like learning to scratch the good old fashion way with the fader. It’s definitely a controller for beginners. Appreciate your channel and content.#Salute
@@djcarlo or how about this.... rekordbox can make a fx package for people to purchase the merge fx ( like the serato do to their fx) for a small price and then midi map it anywhere on the controller for uses...say like for an example the fx's knob on each of the 4 channels!!! 😁👍
@@djcarlo oh man, that's a bummer. Overall it looks much better than the DDJ400, and probably feels better too, but that's one of the main things I was looking forward to improve. I hope to see you using it a lot so I can get an idea of the new features!
It’s a great controller. There are different controllers for different levels of skill and affordability. This is a good inbetween and with that fx knob they added all you have to do is skip it to a new fx number and it cancels right away
Me personally, I just want Pioneer to make a DDJ 800 SRT. I bought an DDJ SR 1 back in 2015 and I want to upgrade and it's time to upgrade, but I just can't justify to upgrade to any other equipment besides the DDJ 1000 SRT, however I don't really need 4 channels and I'm okay with just a 2 channel mixer, hence why I just want a DDJ 800 "SRT" version.
All these negative comments are too funny. For 600 with these features are insane. Who wants to spend the extra 600 on the 1000? Any good dj gonna make anything work. Visual cues on the platter too... 4 channel mixing! I dont like the 2nd effects on the right side of the mixer but all things take time to get use to. Serato & Rekordbox ready! Im sure VDJ will work as well but features and budget are insane. Ppl knocking this but if i put it in my studio i will show ppl how its done.. just hope i can get a custom skin for it. If so watch out. Thanks for the review bro.
Your review doesn't really match all the negative commenting you do in the comment section. Why is that? This seems like a solid device with its place between the DDJ-400 and the DDJ-1000.
@@djcarlo That is strange since all the bedroom DJs in the comments believe that denon is on top. Just saying that your negativity doesn't match the rather positive review.
Great review. Im tempted to get this, but I was told that this controller is meant for Rekordbox, & the buttons dont work well with Serato, which is contradicting cuz it says Serato on it.
I would’ve loved it if it had XLR outputs and the build quality was better. But I guess that’s why you would go for the flagship model(s). I love the idea of a 4 channel controller with full size jog wheels in that price range but obviously we can’t have everything (well not on a budget at least).
Adding xlr connectors to this controller wouldn't make any difference. Its not balanced, You would only be using 2 of the 3 conductors on the balanced cable, so its no different than using single ended pair of rca cables.
@@djcarlo yeah the 400 is a beast and cant be beaten in that price range. For the mid range though I would recommend the kontrol s4 mk3. Such a great controller 👊 also has motorised platters for anyone who wants a vinyl like feel when scratching.
It's a $599 unit that steps up from the DDJ-400. For those users, it gives them a few more options in the direction of a pro setup. 4 channel control and large jog wheels. If you're a gigging professional, the DDJ-800, DDJ-SX3, or DDJ-1000/SRT would be more suitable. The FLX6 is an intermediate step between the entry level controllers and the professional ones.
@@priyonjoni I get that it's a step up from the 400 but most the added features seem gimmicky. You can get a lot more for your money else where tbh. Not hating as I do generally love pioneer equipment, this just doesnt speak to me.
I've had my DDJ SB3 for probably 3 years. This definitely seems like the next upgrade I've been waiting for. Already purchased Serato Pro so no extra benefits there but the extra features and effects make this seem perfect for the price. Not prepared to dish out over a grand for a controller yet unfortunately. Great review!
@@djcarlo Thanks bro, I'll check it out for sure! Just had my 2nd gig this past Saturday. Used a stage which hasn't been used in almost 3 years. Man there's not too many things that feel more satisfying than rocking the place with a great crowd. Thanks for helping me grow my skills!
Can you help me? I bought the DDJ-400 in July to test out DJing if I like it. Now I’ve spent more than 100 Euros for tracks on Beatport, iTunes and Amazon MP3. I already uploaded Sets on SoundCloud and Mixcloud. Etc. Do you think the FLX6 is a good option to upgrade for full size jog wheels or should I first continue with the 400 and see if I should get a 1000 if I continue my DJ thing?
I also started with the ddj-400, learn the basics and some pro dj skills, an then (just like me) when youre ready buy the DDJ-1000 its so much better in all aspects. You have more knobs and features to play with. The flx6 however has features that you rarely use.
Hi, I have a question regarding the DDJ-FLX6 ... is it worth switching my DDJ-SR2 for the DDJ-FLX6? I keep having my doubts, not that there's anything wrong with my current decks.
I was considering between the ddj 800 and the ddj flx6. Ddj800 has more of the professional outputs but just 2 channels. The flx6 has 4 software channels but lack the pro outputs. Hummmmm......I'm new getting this as a hobby. Recommendation between these two units?
I try not to get bandwagonned with popular opinions... This is a great controller. Love the look of it. I do think it's an ok deal but the outputs are a potential deal breaker for professional use... Damn it was about to get my hands on it. Thanks for the review my guy
The jog wheels omg 😱 that is what I’m looking for denon has bigger jog wheels because I have bigger hands. So now the only thing it’s missing is WiFi if they mail that pioneer is back in the game
I have seen you say that you would not recommend this controller but is it worth it for 400USD over the FLX4 as someone coming from just losing their entry level controller (sb2) and have gripes with the flx4?
NO Aux Input NO Xlrs Output NO Rgb Pads NO Assignable effects on Mic NO Lcd screen on Jogs NO Exclusive Sanpler Channel Save some money and buy the 1000 = YES.
@@d.j.z.j If you are on the DDJ-400 and need an upgrade the FLX6 is exactly what I would choose. If money isn't an issue the DDJ-1000 would be the safest bet. Easily the best controller ever released!
Pads are a let down but those jogs are awesome on a controller of that price tag. Thing is it's weird by putting all this trickery in there even a guy that actually uses it to scratch or mixes without the "cheat codes" will get look down. Like when they added sync on to the CDJs but this one go above and beyond to bring trickery to the user. The DJ community is scary and with Covid it's even scarier. If you can't beatmatch vinyl with your eyes closed and your foot you're a poser. I don't know how this happened. From a technical standpoint most musical instruments are a lot harder than doing beatmatch but somehow every DJ has to feel like they work for the Circe du Soleil. The FX blend and scratch feature seems too "standarish", it will get old fast but for 600USD with those jogs and compatibility on both Rekorkdbox and Serato? I've seen way worst deals coming from "Pay"oneer.
I was bouncing back and forth between the FLX4 & FLX6. I like the idea of having Serto Pro & RekordBox DJ free once you plug it in, so i love the idea of it being universal & i tried both before. I think im going with the FLX6 because Im still a beginner DJ & what you pointed out makes alot of sense. Currently i practice on a small $80 NumarkDJ2GO so getting this would be a nice upgrade. I can live with the current output options. Thanks for the review on this. It helped me make a decision.
Not the best I would say To many gimmicks on it, missing quality outputs and closer to DDJ-400 than DDJ-800 when it comes to build quality So basically only for home use
Just got the FLX6-GT and I am happy, but there is one thing... I am using it with Serato DJ Pro. So sometimes I change the channels via button for FX the sound seems to have micro lags. This is really minimal, but it can get annoying when you record your set. Anybody experienced any of these issues? I also tried it on different macbooks.
On the plus side, without XLRs, it will never be considered professional gear, so wont be much of a threat with it's gimmicks. I think Pioneer did that on purpose.
In my honest opinion it is too expensive. No xlr or trs outputs, which is a big con in my opinion. Also pitch faders are too small, no knobs to choose effects or the channel which it affects. Only pros of this unit are merge effects and jog cutter. And while those are interesting concepts, I dont see myself using them too much. You can get way more for the price of ddj1000 or ddj800. Conclusion: Flop
The purpose of this controller is to give a DDJ-400 or DDJ-SB3 user a next step up to experience and be able to practice a 4 channel setup with large jog wheels. If you're a gigging DJ who need professional outputs, the DDJ-SX3 and DDJ-1000/SRT are some of the more suitable choices. The FLX6 is for the beginner or hobbyist that is ready to expand from the limitations of their entry level controller.

I actually could see the use for that! As a DJ tutor, it bugs the shit out of me having to reccomend $1200 controllers for people that want bigger jogs and more channels, but don't need a studio grade interface or a CDJ build quality.
Good point! Didn't think of it that way!🍷
And with the absence of XLR outs, it will stay firmly in its target market as it will never be considered professional grade. Therefore it has its place, and shouldn't be much of a threat to more professional DJs.
Thanks to you now i bought my first DDJ 200 in 3 to 4 years time am going to buy the flx6
Woah! You've got your DJ life planned out!
Call me what you want, but this genuinely looks like one of the best beginner DDJs out there so far. I'm not gonna upgrade from the DDJ 400 that I'm getting, but this looks amazing.
Thanks for sharing what you think!
@@djcarlo Thanks for actually reviewing the product! I love your content and reviews! :)
I still don't understand why everyone hates on this controller. If it was 400$ everyone would have been hyped up about it I guess.
if you want a 4 channel mixer, this might be a cheap option.
Gotta love pioneer the company that keeps bringing us the controllers that no one asked for
They're making cheaper bedroom mixer cause DJs lost their job and mixing in their bedroom.
I think that it is too expensive for the quality build, the small pitch fader, the small pads and nothing new except for the FX knob. Other labels have more and are cheaper.
Agree! Oh man Pioneer!
Like which brands exactly. Please name a few?
That's awesome man! You'll have a lot of fun with it!
That Merge FX Knob seems like a very interesting feature and concept.
It's pretty fun! Just gotta get used to it!
Yep looks good actually
@@djcarlo is this controller worth getting as i want to get a 4 channel controller as in on the ddj 400
This controller dumbstruck down djing because you can do all those effects on a regular deck right?
Looks like a TOY
I’ve had it for about half a year now and really it needs 1. Better ports 2. Better volume faders 3. Better hot cue pads ……. I recommend just getting the 800 for the price
Gotta agree there. This was an interesting new entry, but it does need a little extra work.
I can’t get over the build quality, The jog wheels are super scratchy loud and miss aligned and the volume faders feel like I could snap them by breathing on them, in New Zealand they costed me 1500$ brand new and for that price I shouldn’t be worrying about these things. Disappointed
A product we could live without.
The product no one asked for!

Pioneer DJ, the best company at downgrading products.
the size difference is mind blowing. PLEASE bring back the older engineer/s
Thanks for sharing that
The idea of a cheaper 4 channel controller is good, but for me pioneer kinda failed some things. they could remove this interesting, however also a little bit useless merge fx which can easily be replaced by some more beat fx and therefore lower the price to about 450€.
Totally agree with you! Maybe they're saving something for 2021!

Because lost many costumers who use Serato Dj and now try to fix. First ddj-1000 Serato now this.

I think it will do what it was designed, targeting a specific audience which is good...beginners working their way up. The DDj Sx2 is older, but it does more. Good review.
True! Thanks for sharing that useful insight!
I do not like the look though. reminds me of a cheap Gemini controller.
Thanks for sharing what you think!
Omg your right
You are not alone
The look is slick, but the cheap build quality is a deal-killer for me.
Even the DDJ 400 look better.
If you use the 1000 for mobile gigs this isn’t a bad thing to stick in your room to practice on. If I didn’t already have a home setup I’d consider this.
Good suggestion man. this thing is getting too much hate!
man, it would be sweet if they made the smaller macro FX knob smaller and longer pitch fader
Great observation you got there! Thanks for watching!
In general I don't like the look of Pioneer controllers, but this unit really looks gorgeous! Not that that matters, but still it's really a nice look.
Yes sir! Really looks and performs nice as well!
I think this unit is cool however I would love if in the future they make them with power inputs instead of running straight from the computer
if you press the merge fx button at the same time as he merge channel change button the song plays immediately without a pause
Oh that's cool! I don't think I've tried that!
i like the jog weels and the fact that it can be powered by your laptop with the usb cable. The rest is a bit gimmicky but fun for a beginner. I would give it a rating of 7/10 but i still prefer another controller like the ddj 1000
Cool! Thanks for your honest opinion!
Pionner's classic move. Make something uber interesting but leave many things so that people crave to buy the Flagship models.

Ye that ain’t it chief. Pioneer really gotta step their game up.

@@djcarlo don't think that's way it should go ?a mean just look at it we the top dj give great ideas
You said that you wish that Pioneer would understand that some DJs would love to have the freedom to use both Serato and Rekordbox on the same controller, but @carloatendido said in this video that this controller brings both software on this controller, so what am I missing?🤔
Thank you in advance
The only thing that makes me not want this as a club dj is the lack of outputs I don’t really want to have to drag along a mixer on the side I may as well put that extra cash into a controller with xlr and 1/4 output
Highly agree! That's the biggest gripe I have with this (aside from the extremely confusing FX channel switch)
To me it looks like a bedrrom controller. There's defenetly outputs/inputs missing, independent power source (if PC crashes), .. As Mobile DJ I think it is not the one to go with. But the scratch effects are quite interesting and new on the market 👍
Woot! Thanks for your insightful review! And honest one! Cheers!
It's not meant to be a replacement or in the same category as a professional controller like the SX3 or DDJ-1000/SRT. It takes the limitations of the entry level control and expands it a bit so a beginner DJ can experience a 4 deck setup and large jog wheels.
That's because IT IS A BEDROOM CONTROLLER.

@@djcarlo or how about this.... rekordbox can make a fx package for people to purchase the merge fx ( like the serato do to their fx) for a small price and then midi map it anywhere on the controller for uses...say like for an example the fx's knob on each of the 4 channels!!! 😁👍
What about the tempo slider? Looks like they could have made it bigger, is it as small as the DDJ400 one?

Me personally, I just want Pioneer to make a DDJ 800 SRT. I bought an DDJ SR 1 back in 2015 and I want to upgrade and it's time to upgrade, but I just can't justify to upgrade to any other equipment besides the DDJ 1000 SRT, however I don't really need 4 channels and I'm okay with just a 2 channel mixer, hence why I just want a DDJ 800 "SRT" version.
Maybe they'll do that in a firmware update! Let's hope so!

It is. But everyone wants to see Pioneer DJ fail. It's just the temperment of the community. You always wanna take down the person on top.

Yeah, the 800 is clearly a better buy.
I would’ve loved it if it had XLR outputs and the build quality was better. But I guess that’s why you would go for the flagship model(s).
I love the idea of a 4 channel controller with full size jog wheels in that price range but obviously we can’t have everything (well not on a budget at least).
That's true. But yeah the lack of outputs is a no go :(
Adding xlr connectors to this controller wouldn't make any difference. Its not balanced, You would only be using 2 of the 3 conductors on the balanced cable, so its no different than using single ended pair of rca cables.
Finally a good video with a real dj showing this product 👌🏻

It's a $599 unit that steps up from the DDJ-400. For those users, it gives them a few more options in the direction of a pro setup. 4 channel control and large jog wheels. If you're a gigging professional, the DDJ-800, DDJ-SX3, or DDJ-1000/SRT would be more suitable. The FLX6 is an intermediate step between the entry level controllers and the professional ones.

Nice!

@@priyonjoni have you used this controller yet brother. Interested to hear your thoughts
Love all your vids. Might jump on this, only because you can use serato and RB. I have the 1000 and I use the 400 for weddings.
Side note; I noticed you said “anyway” a lot in this video. 🤔
Anyway yeah I said anyway a lot. But anyway, I like your opinion! But honestly anyway. I would just stick with the 1000 or 400. Or anyway..better yet. Get the XDJ-XZ!
