I bought a black GMT Master II in 2009 and I have been wearing it almost every day ever since. Great watch, versatile, comfortable and reliable. Does not shout like the other GMTs, but attracts the attention of those who know.
I bought one brand new at my dealer October 2018.... saw it in the case and bought it instantly. I don’t regret a thing and I believe this watch in itself is an icon!
This is my everyday wear and I love it. Sleek, modern and yet somehow a classic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Pepsi and Batman as much as the next person, but this watch is the perfect GMT.
This has been my go to piece for close to 5 years now. I find the PCLs a bit too blingy at times but this watch still goes well with almost anything I wear. The jumping hour hand is very useful for travel although I doubt I'll be traveling for the next year or two depending on how the pandemic pans out. Stay safe, watch friends. Cheers!
Very good video, straight forward and no haming it up. I am wearing the GMT all black bezel. At 68 yrs. Old, this watch will never be sold. My first GMT was given to me by my dad in 1967.
This is the exact Rolex that made me fall in love with Rolex. I saw one in a boutique in Paris on my mum’s 50th birthday on our way to lunch and I’ve listed for one ever since. I think this is still my favourite Rolex
My AD called me on this one the week before it was discontinued earlier this year. I passed up a different opportunity to get it, and regretted it, so I was very happy to get it just in time! As far as you saying it trades at retail? Nooo...a newer, unworn, version trades for thousands more.
This LN is my first Rolex in my collection since 2015 and still having it with me now. The preowned price might not have skyrocketed as the BLNR and BLRO but slowly increasing in hundreds across time. It's a less fancy watch and quite happy with how it looks.
Copped mine, brand new last year. This GMT is a gorgeous and timeless piece that has become more desirable since Rolex discontinued it. My birthstone is green, so I love the green GMT arrow. New, this watch is currently going for $15K ($6K above original retail) which gives you an idea how much it has since appreciated (and how desirable it is) since being put out to pasture by Rolex.
This is where watch collecting or appreciation is really hard for me. I would love to have a watch like this, yet the shed I need for my backyard which costs a few thousand less, unfortunately wins in the competition for the bucks! I am delighted that you and others can enjoy them. Thanks for the video!
Bought mine in January, 2018. Already own a 214270, 114300 and 16234 and it was a lot of money, but when the guy behind me in the store said he was on a two year waitlist in Singapore I pulled the trigger. Most comfortable watch I own. Purchased at retail in 2018 = 0 regrets! Will never sell, though.
The watch looks beautiful, one of the best GMT Master models in my opinion, has a good price, and is not as hard to find as the overhyped models. What is there not too like? Sad it was discontinued.
Rolex might bring it back sometime, you never know. I'm sure part of it was that they were coming out with a new movement and they don't like to maroon the last guy who bought the old movement before a new one comes out.
It's trading above retail from the time it was sold, but not above retail for what GMT-Masters are being sold for now. Sure, being an all-black bezel, would likely mean its retail price would be marginally lower than the BLNRs, but given this is near as makes no difference, the same watch as the the 3186 BLNR, trading at right around $10k is fairly uninteresting, given the Batman is trading anywhere between $13k-$15k. People who have bought the LN new will know the value of the watch has risen, but people who are shopping for a ceramic GMT Master with a 3186 movement, the market valuation for this watch shows it's quite forgotten.
@@rousseau327 so true but that’s why I love ❤️ The 116713LM Two tone in black 😢 a super classy iconic GMT I think it’s the watch Bruce Wayne would wear. Great buy on the secondary market.
I actually think this is the best Rolex watch out there, if you are planning on only owning one watch. Super versatile with a ton of functionality. I considered it but ultimately I knew I wouldn't be a one watch guy so I didn't get it.
Teddy check the pre owned market the GMT Black box and papers is going for, 10 to 11k plus. A nice bounce over it retail price. I personally think it's a classy alternative to the glitzy over priced Pepsi and Batman. I also think it looks better and is more functional than the Sun. As far as not having a sexy name I refer to mine as the Darth Vader.
Robert Sullivan Market prices don’t reflect true sale prices. A lot of people overprice their watches hoping to get a sale when in reality they’re punching way above their weight
$10k might be over the retail price when it was new a few years ago, but the Rolex RRP price for a Ceramic, BLNR, 3186 Cal. was around $9.2k, and right around $10k after taxes. This LN version is near as makes no difference (aside from the bezel), the same watch as the 116710BLNR. The market valuation says that people are viewing this watch's value, right around retail price. If anything, the only reason it rose in value, is because Rolex's own RRP has increased over the years.
I bought my 116710LN brand new from my Rolex AD in 2012 and it is the only modern Rolex that I find appealing. I love how versatile it is; I can wear it with anything from a suit to a t-shirt and jeans. I like that is is inconspicuous compared to other GMT Master models. I also find the Batman and pepsi dials limiting with regard to pairing with outfits. In essence, I am happy I had the foresight to purchase the 116710LN.
It's badass. The pop of green against the black. I'm really surprised it doesn't have it's own groovy nickname. I prefer it over the others .. If I get thru this crisis I may.....
I own this watch and I’m obsessed with it haha. But I just realized the one showed in this video does not have the correct oyster bracelet, this one is entirely brushed. The 116710 came with polished center links & clasp.
I noticed this too…and despite it being an aftermarket brushing…it’s exactly how the watch should come from the factory. The polished links simply turn this model into something it never should’ve been…a flashy non-workhorse.
I bought this new from an AD in 2007 and got a 10% discount for paying cash. Those were the days! None of the later GMT models had the name the same color as the 24 hr hand. Only this and the 6 digit Explorer 2s.
This is the GMT Master I went with some days ago. Got it at a bit bellow what is the current GMT Master 2 retail. Some may consider the single color bezel boring, I consider it "under the radar". Nobody will care or give notice to it, and that is what I want. I got this Rolex for myself not to attract attention. Amazing piece!
The Black Knight. The Best value GMT II on the pre-owned market today, it is now discontinued so the price will rise and in 3 to 5 years the price of this beauty will almost double. Rolex The King Of Watches.
I love green, and I love how toned down the LN is. It’s been my daily driver for years. Absolutely in love with it and still smile when I put it on every day.
I am fortunate to have this piece, the new Pepsi and Rootbeer. The Pepsi and Rootbeer is beautiful in the watch box. But this 116710 is the one I wear to go out. It is my favorite.
I would say it's one of the most versatile modern Rolexes and definitely the most versatile of the GMT line. I've had mine for close to three years now. I never expected this piece to go up in value to where it is today. It's not like I'm going to sell as I want my kids to get my small collection of watches when they are all grown up. I must admit though that it is nice to see the numbers go up. Cheers!
I actually own this watch and I have to say I love this piece. I don't see why people think it's a " snooze fest" and until you own one you may never know. Just like the sub black who doesn't get the attention of the Hulk is also a beautiful piece. If I was to own only one of the GMT masters watches it would be the black because I feel it goes with anything more so then the others. Sometimes watches like life less is more.
I have one and you are right, it matches clothes better than the other GMTs. The other ones say "look it, I have got all these grody GMT kolors" ! The black one is more old money.
i was so lucky to buy this watch in Dec 2018 from my AD, It's my first Rolex of many i hope and would never sell it!Got to say big thanks to watches of Switzerland terminal 3 Heathrow.
I had it on my wrist, because I never tried a 40mm and I loved it! It's overlooked for sure. Now I just have to try a Submariner Date the see how that fits & feels. But what would you choose if you had the budget for either the GMT Master II 116710LN and a Submariner Date?
I am that "one watch guy" and this is the one I chose in 2015. I love wearing it. It's so comfortable on the wrist I wear it at bedtime. It goes with everything and every look from casual to dressy. It's not flashy but classy and I get so many compliments on it. I remember having a choice of Pepsi or this and just was drawn to it right away. At the time, the authorized local dealer to me offered it or Pepsi at a discount since I was getting my wife another brand watch as well. I think I paid $7000 for it. Have no desire to buy another one.
Cheapest these GMTs go for is 10k with the highest averaging 15k. Overall cheaper than the other more popular Rolex GMTs but I think Explorer II is hands down the better bargain.
The GMT LN was released 5 years before the Batman and it was the first steel Rolex with a ceramic bezel. The reason this watch is not more popular is because social media and nicknames were not really a thing pre 2010 other than the Pepsi. BTW the LN’s market value is now more than the old Batman 116710BLNR
I have an idea for a new design element to add to a GMT that might work fabulously. Note that on the two colored bezel GMTs, the two colors can represent day vs night, and this works especially well on the Batman even though it was not red and blue like the original Pepsi. My idea would be to make the watch with a two-colored dial in addition to the two colored bezel. But for the dial, the indication of night vs day would be done such that the daytime color (blue) would be the upper half-circle and the night time would be represented on the lower half, these representing day and night colors for the the local time instead of GMT time. There is still room left for a creative design improvement.
100% agree with your review. I find I actually wear my GMT LN more often than my Batman. Same exact watch, just a bit more subtle. This is perhaps the perfect stainless every day wearer.
I have seen this model selling around the same price or more than the discontinued two tone ceramic gmt master!!! That’s crazy!!! The two tone still looks nice, I wonder why it’s not as popular as the stainless steel.
Had one for a year or so and liked so much about it, was just a bit big and heavy for my comfort, also prefer the chroma light lume which came out the following year
I enjoy your videos. They appear honest and genuine. Since I have just begun studying and collecting watches, is there a particular ebay store you would recommend? I hope I don't get overwhelmed with spam now.
In Q2 2024, high quality, late model black GMT IIs are available for retail or less. No date Subs are still overpriced -- so I traded and am very glad I did. An under-appreciated feature of the GMT Black is that it is a travel watch that you can travel with. It does not shout bling across a room -- especially if you brush out the polished center links.
Definitely my favorite gmt. Master ll. Always was just attracted to it. Understated.. yet elegant. Not as flashy. Just love it. And just the hint of green
Nice video Teddy. This is the only Rolex I own. Literally received one of the last models from an AD before it was discontinued. It is already increasing in price and will continue to do so due to its versatility and simply being the last GMT to be offered on a oyster bracelet. The green text on the dial and the green GMT hand will also stand the test of time and become a collectors item. You only have to see a red text Submariner prices to realise that.
Teddy, this video is great, olex GMT is one of the most beautiful Rolex models... Can you make one video about watches that we cant see everywhere on youtube community - about RM, Bovet, Jacob&co. Just your opinion about their most beautiful nodels, Jacob complications on Astronomia, Bovet finishing etc...
Great observation Teddy. I would not of considered the 116710LN but raise good points about wearability and price. Now that they are discontinued they are sure to hold their value, if not go up a little :)
Agreed that its the most wearable super case. Was on the waitlist for a ND Sub in 2018 and made the occasional dropping by my AD and 1 day when I drop by, he offered me either the ND Sub or this GMT Black. After trying both on I find the Sub very flat and the proturding caseback makes it even more boxy looking on the wrist. Even on photos of GMT and Sub side by side you can that the GMT is "rounder" on all sides. Then it discontinued 4mths after I purchased it is the icing on the cake.
Any All Black Rolie works for me but out of the All Black Sports Models I feel this version has strongest looks, though agree it is the more understated GMT. I actually love all the GMT models but sadly my wallet is not that deep but too many and you can't enjoy them as you're constantly changing them so there is no consistency of feeling and wear to any particular one.
Hi Teddy, could you give us some information on Invicta? They were once Swiss, but some of their watches have Seiko movements, but where are they made and are there any with Swiss movements still available?
It’s already trading at well over retail at around 11k. I personally think the Batman is the show stopper, but the meteorite white gold model is the king of the heap. At present I can’t afford any of them, but one day that’ll change.
I say it before and I say it again. Doesn’t matter which Rolex you buy, the next thing that pops into your mind right after buying it is..... which will be your next Rolex.
The Black Black although going for significantly less than the super hero GMT’s is still going 2k over retail at 10.5k...when it was discontinued it jumped up 2k over night....
I like the anniversary model a lot. Two things that the watch suffers though is the black bezel and similarities with submariner, especially for the average perso that cannot tell much difference between them and secondly, this watch was produced for about 12-13 years and was readily available on displays of ADs (at least in Europe). The watch is definitely great value but not with the current inflated pricing after the announcement of discontinuation of the model. One thing I always like on this watch was the green gmt hand and green letter on the dial.
I have this watch and you hit the detailed information on point. Unfortunately, it doesn't see enough wrist time because it is a little boring. It does wear perfectly on the wrist and gets overlooked when you have a collection of more popular designed sports watches. Great video Teddy!
Well, this is the GMT I have, and I love it. Definitely a keeper, and will be my son's one day. Having said that, I still want the GMT Pepsi ceramic. Maybe one day.
I passed on a BLNR at retail and chose an LN. I prefer the more subtle Submariner vibe. I’m not a fan of the two tone ceramic bezel or the now required Jubilee bracelet. If my GMT were stolen tomorrow I’d probably go Sub or DJII rather than pay ridiculous prices for a GMT. But I’m very happy with my choice. It’s a great every day wear.
I do like this GMT. Its still a classy watch that does more than just one function. I missed the price on this but very possible i think this watch will increase because there are those of us that will seek this watch out. It being discontinued probably as with most other things will increase its price. Maybe if i sell the car and house i can grab up one of them before the price rises up. 😁👍
Not overlooked at all, my first Rolex was a SUB, then I purchased the GMT Master II before working my way into the collection. I love them both for different reasons.
I already have a black bezel dive watch, so, even when I got a Steinhart Ocean GMT, I went with the Coke bezel mainly because it look different. Plus, it kind of help using that 24hr bezel as a timer to have additional colors; yeah, it's possible with the single color bezel, but it is a bit faster at a glance when you can quickly see where 15 & 45 is located. I also have a Glycine Airman Purist that's a 24hr movement watch with a stainless 24hr bezel that I actually don't even use for timing while I use the Coke bezel on my Steinhart all the time. At least with my Airman, I have the bezel zeroed at noon to allow 12hr time reading at all times of day while I don't know if I would use the bezel on that Rolex for much of anything. Oh, and I do make use of the actual GMT complication on my Steinhart, but that's not something I'd use nearly as often as a timing bezel, so the Coke bezel splits the difference better.
I bought a black GMT Master II in 2009 and I have been wearing it almost every day ever since. Great watch, versatile, comfortable and reliable. Does not shout like the other GMTs, but attracts the attention of those who know.
This is my favorite GMT, the most versatile GMT, don't follow the hype...
It looks like a sub though
@@MrRKR6782 But better!

I have seen this model selling around the same price or more than the discontinued two tone ceramic gmt master!!! That’s crazy!!! The two tone still looks nice, I wonder why it’s not as popular as the stainless steel.
Had one for a year or so and liked so much about it, was just a bit big and heavy for my comfort, also prefer the chroma light lume which came out the following year
Black Panther?
Haha another superhero name. I think we have enough
Bruce Wayne
Why is the centre link on your watch brushed? I thought centre links on these were polished?
Nice video Teddy. This is the only Rolex I own. Literally received one of the last models from an AD before it was discontinued. It is already increasing in price and will continue to do so due to its versatility and simply being the last GMT to be offered on a oyster bracelet. The green text on the dial and the green GMT hand will also stand the test of time and become a collectors item. You only have to see a red text Submariner prices to realise that.
me too, im thinking of selling it but i may just keep it.
@@leonardopinedo1885 Do not sell. It is a masterpiece and will keep rising in price.
I am working on actually making this happen!
Keep working on it I am huge fan of Jacob&co and I want to see what are your opinion about their extreme luxury timepiece. Hello from Serbia!
I do like the LN, BLNR and BLRO, but my favorite GMT-Master II is the CHNR. 🔥🔥🔥
CHNR = CHINA-R LoL 😂
Thank you for the review. I am purchasing a Rolex GMT Master II.
I’ve been drawn to this watch. Has the Rolex green. And Versatility as you mention.
I bought this GMT "Green Hands" because it is understated next to the Batman. I like underdogs.
That’s a great looking GMT.
I say it before and I say it again. Doesn’t matter which Rolex you buy, the next thing that pops into
your mind right after buying it is..... which will be your next Rolex.
The Black Black although going for significantly less than the super hero GMT’s is still going 2k over retail at 10.5k...when it was discontinued it jumped up 2k over night....
The green arrow! I have it and its a sub and a GMT ant he same time in terms of look.. can’t go wrong.. 2 steel models for the price of one
that's a great nickname
I like the anniversary model a lot. Two things that the watch suffers though is the black bezel and similarities with submariner, especially for the average perso that cannot tell much difference between them and secondly, this watch was produced for about 12-13 years and was readily available on displays of ADs (at least in Europe). The watch is definitely great value but not with the current inflated pricing after the announcement of discontinuation of the model. One thing I always like on this watch was the green gmt hand and green letter on the dial.
Buy watch to enjoy it yourselves not for others. This is definitely a underrated gmt 2 in my book.
I have 2 of this black GMT, one of them being my daily driver. Did have a gen Batman but sold as it didn't give as much pure enjoyment as the LN
I have this watch and you hit the detailed information on point. Unfortunately, it doesn't see enough wrist time because it is a little boring. It does wear perfectly on the wrist and gets overlooked when you have a collection of more popular designed sports watches. Great video Teddy!
Is it for sale?
@@mickeymcintire7621 Sorry...No I have a hard time parting with my collection pieces.
I prefer this to all other newer gmt master 2 models !
I Brought this GMT recently with it's Polished Centre Links I find it very "Blingy" absolutely ❤the watch 👌
I bought this the day after it was discontinued for $7500. No regrets here. It’s a great daily wear.
Box and papers for $7500?
What was retail price on this?
I just bought this two days ago as my first ever Rolex. I couldn’t be happier but now I have an itch I’m not sure I can scratch 😂
I just got one today, I love it .
Well, this is the GMT I have, and I love it. Definitely a keeper, and will be my son's one day. Having said that, I still want the GMT Pepsi ceramic. Maybe one day.
I've owned this watch since buying it retail. It is my only watch and I can count the days it has not been on my wrist.
The best GMT IMHO 😍
What’s up with his gmt, shouldn’t have polished midel links?
This is definitely my favorite looking gmt very understated
Great watch, really underrated in my opinion, but I think it will be overshadowed when the new submariner comes out next Basel World
I do like this GMT.
