Great advice for an Alaskan cruise. Dark sole colors on the sneakers are best rather than white soles. It's easier to keep them clean looking with a wipe in the cabin with tissues. I sprayed my sneakers with Water Repellent spray before the trip to minimize water getting into my sneakers. Also, I always brought a change of socks in my backpack just in case I got caught in the rain or found myself puddle whumping on the trails 😂 I usually brought a t-shirt as well to change just in case I got sweaty on the trails as well. And, of course, bring a small plastic bag in your backpack to put any wet items in to avoid a mess.
We went on an Alaska cruise in September 2019. I am so thankful we brought our rain coats, ski pants and waterproof notes as it was raining exceptionally hard in Juneau. We’re from Oregon and used to the rain but this was colder, wetter and very windy. I was surprised at cruisers who did not come prepared wearing flip flops. T shirts snd shorts, let me say they were miserable. So pack accordingly to the time of year you plan to cruise. Bring binoculars as my husband spotted a grizzly bear, you won’t want to miss these special opportunities.
I wore jeans in Juneau. It rained a lot that day and my jeans were soaked! No fun! Now I wear yoga leggings with a water resistant hiking pant. I also pack a pair of rain pants to go on top if it is really rainy!
I am going in 3 weeks. I have a Columbia jacket where the winter coats zips into the rain coat, so it gives me 3 jackets: cold and dry, rainy, and cold and rainy. I plan on hoodies instead of hats (because I lose hats). Good to know about sunglasses. I am bringing 2 sets of sneakers. A new broken in pair, and a pair that is mostly water resistant on their last life that I plan on wearing with thick socks in Ketchikan. I can’t wait!
My daughter wants to go to Alaska for her high school graduation gift. We are heading out the first week of June. This will be our first time visiting.
The only "tweak" I have to your packing list is around sneakers. I've done this twice and plan to do it again in June - I bring a pair of shoes that are well broken in, but that don't have holes. You know the shoes that you know you're going to throw away but they just aren't on their last leg quite yet. I bring them, stomp around Alaska in them, get them muddy, get them dirty, wet, whatever and then I LEAVE THEM. Gives me extra souvenir room and I don't have to pack these nasty shoes in with my clothes to go home!
Do join the master class!!! I truly believe it helped me prepare for my first Alaska cruise. You have the best videos & resources for an Alaska cruise. I hope you have one in the near future ❤️❤️❤️ We will be venturing out with Princess this year. Looking forward to a wonderful adventure.
Sherri, I have lots of tennis shoes but none are waterproof. What do you think about the waterproof spray? I have a spray can that I use to protect my UGGS. Could work for sneakers?? Going to Alaska for the 4th time in Aug but still found the video helpful and pleased to see that I pack pretty well for the trip. I agree with the casualness of the dining room on Alaska cruises. thanks...
Unfortunately, I don't think it will work if the shoes are still "porous". I don't think that you need a fully waterproof shoe, but rather, one that doesn't leak. Hope this helps!
These tips are great, I am going on my first cruise this year and I'm heading to Norway and this is the closest packing video that helps me - thanks for this, you gained a new subscriber
Yes - Vessi sneakers are terrific, really waterproof and comfortable. They are fairly wide, so a thick sock is no problem. They are designed in Vancouver, where they understand rainy days. The only reason they are not my everyday shoe is I’m trying to keep them in good shape for travel.
I have never learned how to swim and flunked my freshman swim class: so one less item to pack, haha! Great ideas to bring suntan lotion and a cap! Almost missed packing those two items…
We are leaving in June to Alaska. Your video gave me a few “ aha “ moments. I always recommend your channel to new and old cruisers. Keep up the great work
Thanks Sherri, great info! I went on excursion with knit cap, and returned with Yukon ball cap because it was so sunny and warm. I use to over think and over pack; now I cruise more casual ❤
Wearing wool socks in the Alaskan summer is usually pretty silly. Water proof athletic hiking boots are a must in alaska all year round. Wearing shorts in Alaska is not silly at all. Hiking in jeans on a warm day even in the rain can be miserable.
Question... would this list be the same if traveling to Alaska the 1st of Oct or would it need to be colder weather packing? My first cruise will be this Oct. 1st with NCL
Excellent question. October is CONSIDERABLY cooler, and wetter. I would double down on the waterproof shoes and warm clothes for October, and be prepared to feel some movement on the ship, possibly.

Thank you Sherri! I'm going to AK for the first time in June. I had guessed at most of these, and you've confirmed what I need! Winter here is light and already over so I've packed a few things already - gloves, hat, scarf. And have plans for layers to include cardigans for on board and long sleeve Ts over shirt sleeve Ts and tanks for outdoors. I'll water proof my shoes!!

RIGHT? It's so much cooler and wetter in September!
We're from Oregon, going this September. Everything is pretty much saying prepare for windy, wet, cold conditions. Lol so ok! We will
@@CruiseTipsTVjust booked my first Alaskan cruise for my birthday in September (2024). So excited. May do our vow renewal onboard as well.

That is such a cool hack! I LOVE IT!
Yes! I have pair of those hiking boots!!!
I was thinking of doing that too
Shari, my first husband and I live in Alaska in 1971. One of the people up there told us that the national bird of Alaska was the mosquito.
That's classic!!!!!

Thanks Sherri! I'm going to Alaska for the first time in May! I'm so excited!
Hope you enjoy it!
Perfect timing for my next cruise we just booked on Carnival Spirit this August!!
We’re going to Alaska in August on the spirit too🩷

How wonderful! What cruise line?
@@CruiseTipsTV Royal Ovation of the Seas
@Lynne Brown thinks its changed to Brilliance of the Seas in that Early May 2023?
This is my first cruise and going to Alaska end of july. How about slogger shoes. I wear them in heavy rain often. Will it still be that cool?
We have an Alaskan cruise booked for October this year. Just starting to research and figure out what we will need. Thanks for this video!
Our pleasure! Happy planning!

So happy to have you here! Have a fabulous cruise!!
Packing for Norway is very similar to packing for Alaska. Layers and be prepared for all the weathers!
im going in october this year and cant wait we have posponed a couple of times but finally we are going ! ❤
Sherri I have been hoping you would do a new Alaska video! I love to dress for dinner and love that you dress for dinner!
I sure do! Most times! Glad you enjoyed!
Always appreciate your videos. Back to Alaska in May. Sapphire princess anchorage to Vancouver
How exciting! Have a wonderful cruise!
Thanks for the tip - I'll make sure to pack my waterproof 𝐕𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈 shoes, so comfortable too! 😊

Genius! Love it!
Thank you! Going in May, we hust wasn't sure how to dress😊
Have fun! Whohoo!!!!
I have a question. I am going on a 14-day Alaska in April. One of the stops is in British Columbia, Do we need a visa, or will a passport be fine?
Not if you’re from the United States but check with your travel agent to be sure
Thank you so much, would you mind sharing some tours and things to do in AlAska?
You're welcome! Here's a playlist with some ideas: ua-cam.com/play/PLCLybRxC0VFKMJYXpAl7QlVl1Z9G-kTdE.html

Thanks for the tips! We sail mid August!
Have fun!
We way over packed for our Alaskan cruise
I've been there! Easy to do!
Thanks Sherri, great info!
I went on excursion with knit cap, and returned with Yukon ball cap because it was so sunny and warm. I use to over think and over pack; now I cruise more casual ❤
RIGHT? It's a weird thing, but baseball caps just WORK!!
As someone who wears glasses, a ball cap kept the rain mostly off my glasses!
I’m from northern British Columbia I know all about weather and bugs

I love your videos can you add little bit of slow motion that will be cool

@@CruiseTipsTV thank you! 😊 I haven't been able to find much on UA-cam for Alaska in the beginning of October so this helps thanks again!
Going Oct 1 as well. Hope your packing is underway!!! Less than 2 weeks now.
Sherri have you ever tried powdered sunscreen
Not yet!
😂ill be sure to bring my LONG shorts.
Hahah! Perfect!
Thanks a lot for the list. It’s my first time in Alaska, I’m so excited. But I don’t know how to pack.
your amazon storefront "more" button is not working. i can only see your first 20 items on all your things.
It’s the same for me right now too! I tried on mobile and it stops at the shoes 😞
I’ll see if we can troubleshoot! Thank you!!!
No to port day clothes in the mdr. I would rather eat at the lido..😮
Suddenly, I’m in the mood for a hot tub , sigh~ 😅
Gloves?
Did your mom have a separate stateroom? I’m wondering if 3 70 year old women can share one patio stateroom?
I would suggest two rooms because one of those three may end up on an uncomfortable sofa bed!
Are you going soon to Alaska??
We hope to, YES! Stay tuned!
