I'll give up my highlighter and lanyard when they're pried from my cold, dead hands. Another great video! Thanks!
I will always pack the highlighter! That's part of the fun, the night before, when I want to highlight everything I want to do the next day!
RIGHT? We old school, and that's OKAY!
But how do you find room for such a huge, bulky item? 😺
Me too!
No to ditching formal wear. People who don’t want to dress up, go to the buffet.
Oh no way ditching my formal dresses! Heck no I love to get all dolled up!! ❤
Same!!
Nah! I wanna pack EVERYTHING!!! Lol.
Hahaha! I feel ya!
i skip all of those mentioned items apart from the formal dress, we still dress up for formal nights🤗
I agree with the majority of these. Only exceptions:
* Big toiletry bags. I have 2 for the 3 of us and it works for us.
* Highlighter pens. Yep I'm old school too 😂
* Fancy Clothes. We still like to dress up.
* Snorkel Gear. I'm not bringing the fins anymore, but I need a prescription mask.
* Lanyards. I'm a lanyard geek.
Great video Sheri! ❤
Love it! I still really like to dress up too, most times! Except MAYBE on NCL when I dress up, but skip "formal" night.
@anakerose where would you get a prescription mask?
@cruisetiptv any particular reason why only on NCL?
We've found ourselves going back to checked baggage due to the issues with everyone wanting to take carry on luggage nowadays. We actually found it to be more relaxing as it forces us into taking a more leisurely approach to our travels.
Great point! It's gotten crazy!
We used an over the door shoe holder recently, but hung it on the wall with magnets next to the closet. It was out of the way and worked out great!
That's cool! Good idea!
Can you share the magnets you used ? I am cruising this summer with my 1 yr old. Definitely could use this.
Here are some that work great- they hold up to 27 lbs! amzn.to/43zmGN6
@@anne-isabellejoseph5310 I got a 12-pack from Amazon that are very similar to the ones @CruiseTipsTV gave the link for.
I pretty much agree with this list. I do however still use a lanyard because I will and have in the past lost my seapass card.
Totally agree!
Highlighters are in my suitcase as I type…boarding ship on Friday.
I always love your recommendations.
Great updates 😊. Love your blouse or dress❤. Have switched over to 2-3 smaller bags instead of my favorite big toiletry bag….easier to put into the weird empty spaces.
I will always pack my formal wear and as a matter of fact.I'm even packing fancier dresses for the non-formal nights.Just to feel special during my one week a year
I still like the highlighter as well! We request a Cruise Compass because we like to see it all in one view instead of scrolling on the app.
Love it!
Same here! I will always prefer paper to screens!
The Lermende clear TSA bags are amazing and I still tell everyone I know who's traveling about them! Great product!
I love formal night! Even if not enforced I will still wear it at least once for dinner.
Thanks for the list, some were good, some were, well I'll see
Thank you for the updates. Very interesting.I still pack my highlighter 😊
I love my lanyards!!
I agree with the too large toiletry bag. I use smaller bags to organize, and they are easier to pack. I've never used the over the door organizer. I will always have highlighter pens, because I also journal a lot on a cruise. I don't necessarily use the newsletter, I've gone to the app for that. One of my favorite things to pack, and found it so useful is the water bottle that opens in the middle. LOVE it.
I love those water bottles! Like, the screw off type right?
@@CruiseTipsTV Yes, so perfect to get ice, lemonade, ice tea, water etc. in the buffet.
I never had a large one. The largest I've ever used is about the size of one of those waist bags and I don't use a rigid one so it mashes down to the size of the contents.
I love my over the door hanger! It's so helpful to me to just get easy access to things.
I love it! I saw someone who put their kids outfits by day in them, which is clever!
Love your vids! Maybe it's a Covid thing but cruising after the lockdown I began to pack with intention and streamlined on most everything. I will always pack a travel clock. Evening clothing is classy but comfy with 2 pairs of shoes max! Formal night for my husband is black jeans or slacks with a black collar shirt and a simple black dress for me. Beachwear is easy and port / excursion clothing I plan as needed. We bring running shoes shorts and tees for the gym and smaller suit cases too! See you on the high seas!!! 🛳
Thanks, I definitely got rid of the over the door shoes rack.
Great tips!.. I still use a lanyard.. even got kudos on my last trip.. but might skip it this round & have one of those pockets on my smartphone case to carry it.
Me too- usually!
I needed this video. Most of the cruise videos are still promoting outdated materials. This will help me unclutter my bags a bit.
💕
One of your BEST vlogs!
Aaw, shucks! Thanks!
Fun to hear what other people are doing, but you do you :) We used our lanyard once and didn't like how they felt around the neck. I'm still going to bring my makeup bag. I don't wear much makeup, but it holds sunscreen, first aid, meds, vitamin, etc. We never take formal clothes because we prefer dinnerwear that's easy. And I've gone from bringing three suitcases (lord) to one large one, but on the next cruise I'm going to try to just bring a medium and a backpack. My name is Julie, and I'm an overpacker :) Happy Cruising!
This is a fun episode. We dress up, but we ditched the MDR on our last two cruises after giving it a one night chance so the dressy clothes sit in the closet.
My new trend is leaving my kids behind! They grew up 😂😂😢 I’m sure will rejoin us at some point.
Wow! That's one I NEVER thought of! UGH, they will rejoin! I'm scared for that phase of life, but it's also exciting!
Princess has been using medallions for a while now instead of the cruise card. It can be worn on a chain/lanyard or bracelet. You just touch it to the door of your cabin and it opens, etc.
Loved this video! We haven't cruised in many years and will be going on a cruise this fall so the updates were very informative.
Glad it was helpful! Happy planning!
Lol i feel old. I remember packing all that stuff. Cruising in October I may scale back a bit
Loved this episode Sherri! And yes, I still pack a highlighter ( per your suggestion) binoculars, and a paperback book! 😊
Love that!
Your points on DSLR cameras are so valid. Even as a UA-camr, I don't take big cameras with me, due to the advancement in smaller, more portable technology.
Great advice, as always!
Absolutely! Thanks my friend!
I'm carry-on only now.
I have done Alaska twice with my regular tennis shoes.
Highlighter all the way!!!
I gave my big camera to my granddaughter.
I have a non surge protector extension cord cube, sounds like it's time to trade it out.
One nice dress (not fancy) that would kinda pass if I want to do formal night.
Thanks you
I packed for a 22 day cruise in my carryon suitcase and a personal item with no problem. Of course Viking has free self laundry, so that helps. I washed socks, undies, tee shirts and my linen pants. Our cruise was Greece, the middle east and India, so it required a little ocean day clothing maintenance, but an hour a week was well worth the ease of having only carryon luggage.
Thank-you for the suggestion of the usb adaptor. I have one when I was working from home! Perfect for the ship.
Our pleasure!
I love dressing up.Its part of the fun, along with the towel clips.May as well stay at home if I don't.
Thanks for sharing!
Fun video !
Thanks for watching!
I like to markup my daily cruise planner too, so I feel ya!
⭐️⭐️⭐️
To some degree, I think about the cruise and pack accordingly. For example, if I can drive to the port, then my wife and I will each take a medium sized suitcase. But if I'm flying, we'll consolidate into a large suitcase to reduce baggage fees.
In another example, I'll bring a sunrise alarm clock if I'm in an inside room, but leave it at home if I've got some natural light in the cabin.
Lastly, I always bring a battery operated alarm clock. I don't set the alarm, but I use it to see what time it is when I wake up.
My European adapter has one American and two USBs. It has never let me down and it works for me every time. Especially useful on old ships like the Carnival Radiance that had maybe two American outlets total
Keeping my 1 toiletry bag. admit it does take up more room in the suitcase, but it helps me keep organized. Switching to towel bands, but I will miss my cute flip flop towel clips.
I feel ya! I miss those little margarita and flamingo clips too.
Got my highlighter packed!😀
SAME!
We just purchased larger suitcases to be able to get everything in them & have hands free experience w/ a back pack on our backs. Still using my over the door shoe organizer, a lanyard w/ hand sanitizer attached, & recently purchased the bands for the towel on chair. We are ditching the large toilet bag & we will be using the small TSA containers on our next cruise.
On our last cruise we ditched the towel clips for towel bands because the clips tended to break. Also I noticed many travelers used the towel bands as compression straps for their luggage while traveling, so interesting dual purpose.
That's smart!
I love the highlighter. I use the clips for the top part of towel and band to not have it fly at bottom of chair. I also use band for small blanket for travel etc. Smaller suit case thsnks to packing cubes. LOVE them.
Refreshing. We're prepping for a cruise and I'm getting overwhelmed by all the gear people take, in contrast to the minimalists I also enjoy watching on UA-cam. While I love being completely prepared and geared, I also love the feeling of lightness from not worrying about corralling all the stuff, especially in transit. And I'm not worrying about formal nights or wrinkles on an Alaskan cruise. The bears and 'bergs don't care!
Well said! YES, we travel carry on only, and it's a bit of a "dance" determining what to pack!
I still love dressing up for Formal night, there’s not a lot of reasons to dress up so I enjoy getting the chance to be a little fancy. I’m still a fan of a lanyard so I don’t see myself giving that up any time soon.
It's a beautiful tradition!
Perfect timing! I am packing for my Icon cruise next week and keep putting things in and out of my suitcase 😂. I am switching from towel clips to the strap bands and not taking as many dressy clothes as in the past. I do love dressing up though but want a lighter smaller suitcase now days. The beach bag and lanyard will still go with me I think though.
That's great that you're starting earlier! Always ends up better! Hope you have a FAB cruise!!!!! Bon voyage!!!!
We’ve been doing the USB hub for years. It’s wonderful for the pre-cruise hotel as well!
They are the best! Great point about the pre-cruise hotel!
I need my highlighter and still plan to dress up a bit for formal night - something I’d wear to church, not a formal.
Great tips. 2 things I will hold on to is my physical book because I just like the feel of a book and my big toiletries bag. I’m a preparer and I know if I don’t bring something that in that bag I’ll be sorry 😂
Love it! Thanks for watching, Jake!!!!!!
We just got off of the Carnival Radiance and the walls were NOT magnetic. The celling was but we missed the storage that the magnets provide!! The door to the room was not highly magnetic either. My little sign was too flimsy to stick. I also had 2 different people ask me where I bought my cute lanyard from. They are still great especially for those kiddos.
Thanks for sharing! That's wild about Radiance!
I had the same problem with the stateroom door on RC's Wonder of the Seas. I had to balance my little magnetic picture frame atop the peephole so that it did not slide all the way down the door, lol.
Agree on most all.....we are carry on only now. Husband lost his card out of his pocket while walking the top deck on a cruise last year....he asked for a lanyard after that. PS: RCL made him a brand new card and cancelled the lost one. It was an easy fix. We don't go formal anymore either.....just black slacks and nice tops for me, and dockers & polo shirts for husband. Much easier. I usually like the printed cruise planners too, but last time I discovered not all the activities were on the paper copy.
Great points! thx for sharing!
Can't get rid of large hygiene bag. My curly hair needs 5 different products to tame, lol. And our last cruise got rid of my beach bag and switched to a packable back pack. Best thing ever!
I have a unique over door organizer it has a memo aera and pockets not a shoe organizer but helps keep all the things organized like room keys. Towelclips/ bands etc. So don't have to hunt around know right where they are.
I love formal nights and use the paper itinerary
We used magnets alot on our last cruise we had heavy 85lb hooks they held my hair tools on the wall. Used them for everything. Also we bring fan along . We used two toiletry bags big and small one for medicine and first aid only other for bathroom toiletries. Love the back pack ideas much easier. Still use lanyard for sail sign card.
Wow, that's great. I need to find some higher capacity magnetic hooks for sure!
Cool vid, thx! ❤
I still, and likely always will use my medium sized checked suit case. I usually cruise to mixed weather destinations, or unpredictable weather destinations so I'm not usually clear on what's best to pack. Taking hours to plan a capsule wardrobe is daunting to me, just too much work.
I will still carry a lanyard because I don't want to be restricted in making sure iv always got a pocket. Cash is not carried around on a ship so no need for a purse. I use a little pouch type lanyard card holder, so I can put my phone and chap stick in there as well.
I will also still carry a small make up bag as it doubles as my jewelry case as well. Also because a zip lock is not as durable to be pack and unpacking and tossing around.
Thanks to your tip of a USB bar instead of a power bar/extension cord I have purchased one of those for my next cruise.
Cheers to you all 🎉❤
Those mixed weather destinations are so tricky! I had that experience when we cruised from Japan to Singapore in December. It takes a lot of planning!
@CruiseTipsTV I lived following you all on that cruise. What an amazing adventure that was I bet.
Yep, Cunard trip and need to wear dress up for dinner time. Also I have the bug repellent wipes instead of spray.
Great tip!
I agree with all of those except for two. #1 toiletry bag. I have the exact one you held up. It has my & my husband's toiletries and face care, the first aid items, my cruise makeup kit (much less than regularly), hair ties and brush, and the little bit of jewelry I bring for dressing up (chic not formal). Have it fully dialed in. #2 lanyard. I always lose my card if I try something different. I don't use the ribbon kind, though. I have several that are a necklace style that matches most of my go to cruise outfits. I think they are pretty.
I have the same toiletry bag she showed for my upcoming Alaska cruise 2024. I just have too much stuff perfume moisturizer etc. I need that. I guess next time I’ll try putting everting on zip bags see how that does.
I do like the stick on the phone case card holder.
Thanks for this. FYI, You can request a wake up call instead of an alarm clock. And I reuse my same lanyard over and over. As for formal wear, It's fun to do something other than shorts for dinner one night and I'd NEVER cruise and eat every meal in the buffet. It is possible to find a dress or shirt and pants that don't wrinkle, or to hang them in the bathroom after a shower to let wrinkles and creases ease out.
Also wrinkle free spray travel size @ dollar store works great!
Brought the European adapter and an allowable power (AC/USB) extension on the Regal. There was an open Euro socket under bed and plugged in extension. Gave us US AC and USB on nightstand. Only other sockets were at table across room. kept cords off floor
Oh, wow! Under the bed? That's really cool!
Just used my shoe organizer last week on Mardi Gras. I hang on a wall using magnet hooks. Kept things off the desk surface and we felt more organized. Yes to highlighter. No formalwear. We just dress nice.
That is awesome!
I will always do formal wear. I love dressing up and don't get to do it often so I go all out! I'm also someone that took the biggest suitcase I could find and pack for 2 weeks, but our cruise march next year will be my first time going carry on only because we're flying to Miami with 3 kids 😅 everyone will be carry on because I don't want the stress of keeping up with that many suitcases
I'm a sucker for formal nights too!
After listening to your podcast on this same topic, I have to say that sexy has definitely been brought back in 2024! Who knew it would involve lederhosen?!?! 🔥🔥🔥
Bahahahah! I cannot! xoxox
I will bring a highlighter to highlight programs and a light magnet to post program on the wall. I need my travel alarm clock, too.
Love it!
I never have used a lanyard. I use the adhesive card holder and put it on the back of my cell phone (onto the cell phone case.) Since I always have my phone with me to use the ships APP, it is convenient! Thanks for all your info and I really enjoy your videos.
Great tip. I've always wanted to try one of those!
I love formal nights❤
Me too!
This will be our 3 cruise with NCL which I love we will be doing a 10 day Mediterranean trip on the Escape in early October we are leaving a few days earlier to relieve our Jest lag since it will be a good 10 hour flight
Smart move!
I was on the Regal Princess out of Galveston at end of January this year. I wore a black suit and tie on the first formal night of the cruise. And, I was the only guy in the entire restaurant wearing a suit besides the restaurant managers. A few men were in sports coat and slacks. Most men were wearing khakis and a polo shirt. Formal nights are definitely on their way out.
Wow! Yah, I've seen that Caribbean cruises on Princess are becoming more casual in general too!
We had some cooler weather on that cruise. And what's funny is that for the "2nd" formal night I decided to dress down and wear a cable knit sweater and khakis. I was still "overdressed." LOL@@CruiseTipsTV
I’m a carry on packer, can fit two weeks of clothes in my bag. My husband had me buy him an extra large suitcase because he packs a lot of clothes and stuff.
Love it! Sounds like you both have a good system!
Hey Sherri! Great Vlog! Most of those items I do not pack because it is too much. However, I disagree with the toiletry bag. I love my big toiletry bag. It works for me and I am quite sure for others too. The small bags are only good for weekend trips not 7+ cruise days. If I used the small bag then I am rationing how much product I must use and I don't like that at all! I know on the cruise ship they have shampoo and body wash to use just in case you forget to bring yours or you just didn't bring enough. But the problem with using their products and not your own is those items may not be skin sensitive. Everyone can't use harsh or different soap for their hair or body. Also, if people are carrying the small toiletry bags I am almost sure they are carrying several small bags too! So own that note, I am happy to bring my big toiletry bag. I believe you must follow what is best for you and not what others count as obsolete. Lastly, I do love my highlighter! I am not giving that one up! Lol!
Thank you Yvonne!
I just got back from a cruise last night and my newer larger suitcase just arrived this afternoon. 😂
Love it! Hah!
We leave on a 9 night cruise next week. I know I will over pack. I want to take my big camera because pictures I have printed from my Iphone don't look that great IMO. I also want to take a small pair of binoculars just so I can look at things far away if I choose. I did buy a InstaPro360 but don't know the quality of photos it takes. I did get towel bands and heavy duty magnets. My daughter and I are going to dress up. We never do that and thought it would be fun 😊
I will always pack my toiletry bag! 😆
I do too, when traveling with family. I only ditch in when going solo and trying to minimize stuff.
Yes I remember your clock and the service you had for it when it went out😢.... I will still bring my travel clock ⏰️
YES! So long ago! Thanks for being a part of our community for all these years!
We always take a small thermometer that has a remote that I hang outside on the balcony
Oh, cool! I never thought of that!
Wifey and I do not dress up much. Formal night is the one or two nights we can get our drip on. Its a must for us.
I don't bring formal wear anymore, but I do bring light weight dress slacks and blouses and sundresses for MDR.
Love it!
Unless I’m on Princess I still use a lanyard. And I love my highlighter.
Agree, I'm a highlighter girl too!!!!
Binoculars were a huge part of our Alaska cruise through glacier bay
Same here, I still pack a small pair for Alaska!
I love a Highlighter! 😂
SAME!
North American power is 120 V at 60 Hz, European power is 220V at 50 Hz. Your devices will tell you what they are rated for( normally on a sticker on the bottom or on the charger /cord). Unless there is a transformer in the outlet adapter the only thing it is doing is changing how the plug looks. Most phones can be charged at either voltage
Good to know, thx!
Awesome, thanks so much!
Yes to all of those except I pack one formal dress now. I've ditched my huge suitcase because I hurt my back on my last cruise lugging it. It has converted me to a minimalist packer 😂
That's a good motivator!
On my last cruise, I bought a case for my phone that held 2 cards so it worked great for my room key.
Nice!!!
I have two lanyards that look like necklaces; one is gold and one is silver! Umbrella for sure getting packed as well as hanging storage for toiletries especially if 3 in cabin.
Very nice!
Always bring a highlighter. We dress semi formal in outfits that also can be used on non elegant nights. No ties for me though I can’t stand them after wearing for work etc 😅. I need to try that usb hub. I like my lanyards, not giving up mine. However I see some people putting their ship card in a little wallet attached to their cell phone case. Now that’s interesting for efficiency purposes. But still like a lanyard.
Instead of a lanyard I put my cruise card on a spiral bracelet. It’s much easier to take on and off to swipe, yet it keeps the card handy.
Great idea 💡
I always bring a DSLR camera as I am a photographer in focus on pictures rather than video
As you should! What's your fave camera?
@@CruiseTipsTV canon
Yes, magnets are the way to go and if you use them on the ceiling you can still use the shoe hanger. It doesn't fit so well on the bathroom door so why force it when you can hang from the ceiling next to the wall. I have been torn about my DSLR Camera and I have to say the easy and the control that I have with the camera it would be tuff to leave it at home! Yes I do use the cell phone camera and I know that if I capture a great picture on my cell phone it doesn't always allow me to print it out any larger than maybe a 8"x10" and if I get it with my DSLR Camera I can print it out on a poster and it still looks great!
I don't like a lanyard. I have one, but don't use it. I put my key card in my pocket or my cigarette case with a lipstick and I'm set. My make up bag is separate from my toiletries bag. I leave it on the vanity with my travel mirror (folds flat). My toiletries bag is unpacked and folded into my empty suitcase. Wall magnets are a must, though, to keep flat areas clear. I do get a free laundry bag that I use mid-point through the cruise for my swimsuits and travel outfit for the trip home.
I recently bought 3 toiletry bags and used on last cruise- 1 for husband, 1 for my medicine cabinet lol😊 and 1 for my toiletries. Took a ton of room in the suitcases. I may try to repurpose them and go back to ziplocks and pouches next time. Not a good use of space!
Nope, can't ditch the fancy outfits sorry. Thats definitely something my husband and I really look forward to on a cruise. I mean honestly now days even weddings are casual so when will we get to rock the threads? And our hanging toiletry bag is a must...keeps everything organized and off the bathroom counter. Plus if we're pre hotel before the cruise, this is perfect, don't have to unpack anything its all in its place. And lastly, leave my highlighters alone🤣🤣 color coordinated here. YESSSSS I suffer from OCD. But so fun to just sit on the bed night before and highlight what interests us.❤🛳
I love formal night too!
Agree with most of it. Love the toiletries case! We hang it from the ceiling with a magnet hook. Then everything is out of the way.
SMART idea!
Packing as we speak. Bringing towels bands instead of clips. I like my big toiletry bag, still bringing it.
NICE!
Sameee Iove my big toiletry bag
I agree no shoe hangers
26 cruises in here's my opinion-Over the door hanger, out.. unless you have 3 or more in the cabin.
Camera-out. When I did take it, I just never used it because it seemed like such a hassle. I just used my phone.
Binoculars-AK YES, other trips no.
Toiletry bags- no. They aren't pretty but who cares, Ziploc bags are much better and easier to pack.
Towel clips-still Take them even though I like the bands. I have decided to not buy any unnecessary accessories
Usb hub-depends on the ship and how many in the cabin
Euro adapters-nope
Books-no, never did
Boots-nope,water proofed my sneakers
Highlighter-no.
Fancy clothes- I still dress appropriately, but I don't fuss over it being exactly fancy.
Sundresses, skirts and blouses
Luggage- I don't use anything larger than 24-26 inches. If I pack a 28 inch suitcase to capacity is too heavy for the flight
Snorkel-yes. Fins, no
Alem clock-nope, wake up call and my phone
Walkies-nope
Beach bags -no .lightweight bacpaclk
