I'm taking my 76yo mother on an 11 day / 10 night Alaskan Princess Cruise, May of 2025. I'm surprising her with the tickets for her birthday in November. It'll be her first cruise, and our first time to Alaska for either of us. This is a dream trip she's wanted to go on for years!! I hope she's happy and that we have a great time. I'm thinking that we will with all of these great tips your channel has graciously put together! 😊 Thank you so much!
Went on One Alaska Cruise with Celebrity on the first week of September and it was amazing. The weather was so perfect that when we got to the glacier the Captain called for all available hands on deck to see how beautiful it was. Yup the crew you never would see came up and was in Aww at how beautiful it was. We did a couple of excursions thru Celebrity and they were ok. When we go back we want to do some things more adventurous. Local restaurants are really stupid crazy expensive. We got off the ship and walked around got some shirts to bring home and went back to the ship. Trust and believe when people say BRING EXTRA SPENDING MONEY because to eat off ship is expensive and excursions are much higher than on Caribbean cruises. ✌🏼
That sounds wonderful! We went last year and thoroughly enjoyed the ports, whale watching, train ride, bears and eagles, so we are going again next week! Glaciers and a train trip through Denali are the highlights this time. Hope you can go again soon!
@@trbstang Our next time to Alaska we will definitely include a trip on a train. We have heard nothing but good things about those and I love photography so I should get some amazing shots for sure 🥰❤️
This will be my 3rd Alaskan cruise. 1st in 1998 Vancouver to Anchorage, 2022 round trip Seattle, would not recommend . Next in 30 days, August 2024 Vancouver to anchorage plus 4 days in anchorage! My mom and dad went on the 1st cruise with us and now this August mom will be 89 and a new widow and she is so excited to go again and she is sharing a balcony room with my son, her first grandchild! This time we will be able to afford more excursions!,
Exactly on cruise ports. We did HAL Eurodam when cruising opened back up in 2022. Victoria was our foreign port and we loved this city. We pulled in at 8pm and left at 1130pm. Would have never picked this itinerary if I had looked more closely at port times. Victoria like most ports needs to be enjoyed during the day time and not late at night. Thanks for sharing
Packing will be crazy for my cruise in May 2025. Begins in Port Canaveral and ends in Anchorage. There are so many great things to see in Alaska, money permitting, but at the very least get off the ship and walk around. The small towns have a special charm to them.
My husband and I are going in September of 25. My celebration of retiring from a long standing job. So can’t wait. Do you think we need to bring at least 1 pair of shorts? I feel like it’s gona be cold and wet.
I have a pair of pants that zip off into shorts that I am bringing on my hiking trip in Ketchikan. Not the most stylish but something like that would give you an option of shorts
Just got back last month from Alaska on HAL’s Zaandam. We lucked out on having fantastic weather, sunny every day. Temps were in the mid-50s sometimes reaching low 60s (around 10-16C). Which side for your room? What you said is correct, however, if you’re taking a one-way trip from Seattle, you want to be on the Starboard side. One way from the north, port side. Round trip doesn’t matter because one side sees it going up, and the other going back down. I will say, you get better viewing for longer on both sides if you take the inside passage (leave from Vancouver), than if you don’t. We spent time on our balcony, the deck, and the Crow’s Nest while in Glacier Bay. Each had its benefits, and none were bad. Also totally agree about booking excursions from just the cruise line. My friend snd I only had one excursion (Tracy Arm fjord) booked through HAL, and our friends booked two (one in Ketchikan). The rest of our excursions were through third parties. Great excursions. Fantastic time overall, and loved every minute of it.
Great info for an Alaska cruise. Since the majority of ports on the itinerary will be in the USA, I would also recommend checking if your cell phone service provider is available at the ports you will be visiting. If you are okay with having access to your phone just during those daytime port stops, it may be a way to reduce your trip costs and not get the onboard WiFi package. When the ship leaves port, put it back on airplane mode so there's no surprise charge for remote or roving connections while away from land.
Wait, what's wrong with the Juneau kiosks in your thumbnail? I got the impression they save you a bit of money especially if you just want to take a bus to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
Booking shore ex to Alaska is the mistake this references- those buses are now $80 per person, JUST for bus transport. You’re better off pre booking an actual tour
We're going end of August, we saw the same thing. Fortunately, we're not doing a bunch of excursions so it's not going to be a huge problem. Hopefully lol
We went in 2022 and I was disappointed with all the HUGE ships in port. Way too many people. Smaller ships are the way to go. These big ships have no place in Alaska IMHO.

It's a really good point about it really not mattering which side of the ship you book your cabin on. I actually cruised Alaska in an Inside cabin as it was just far too expensive for me to book a balcony, so I spent most of my time wandering around the deck, and felt it was amazing to be mobile on your scenic cruising days - the scenery is all absolutely unbelievable!
@@tieashawaddy1123 I stayed in balcony. But I did not use balcony that much since I was outside for activities in the evening as well. For scenic view lower open deck or upper deck even buffet area was better than my balcony. For my next solo travel I will go for interior.
Great tips, Sheri! Especially the one on choosing the right itinerary. This August is our 2nd Alaska cruise. My first was a round trip from Seattle and that limited our time in port. Our stop in Victoria BC was only 3 hours and we arrived at 8 pm. We didn't bother getting off the ship
We went for a very enjoyable evening walk in Victoria during our also very short time in port, just around Fisherman's Wharf and to the beautiful Empress Hotel. Loved it!
Great video! Finally rescheduled our 2020 Alaska cruise and went in May! Thankfully we’ve been watching you all this time and we were totally prepared. Thanks, Sheri!!!
We are excited for EVERYTHING! Never been there before and planned for a couple years. You were right about the cost of this trip and excursions, we could have taken 3 week long trips to the Caribbean for what Alaska is costing! Thanks for all the tips on your videos!
Do realize two things about the cruise. The stop in Dutch Harbor is tenuous at best due to the weather. Flights and sea trips into that port may be cancelled. The length of the scheduled stops in Dutch Harbor are so short that we decided the cruise was not worth the cost. We might take the last cruise of HAL that visits Alaska and continues to Japan.

Very helpful going in September
First cruise in a couple of weeks, no idea what to expect.
I just got back from an Alaska cruise. Biggest mistake was going on Norwegian. The port stops were too short and WiFi that was paid for never worked.
This is why we changed our mind and went with holland instead.

Great points! We’re planning our first Alaskan cruise (next May) and balcony cabins are twice as much as interior in the ship we’re interested in. 😅
