I learned this from your previous Alaskan blogs to pack rain gear. I packed rain pants and a rain jacket from Columbia. Also to dress in layers and I did pack shorts for my hubby. I enjoy all your tips.
Here’s a tip for the community for sea sickness. Eat ginger and green apples. Also drink ginger tea. I had a cup of ginger tea each night of my cruise before bed and it helped.
Great video! I live in Miami and returned last week after traveling to Alaska for 10-days from Seattle on Friday. I returned home a coule of days ago, I utilize a carry on 7-30 day land or cruise ships. I never check luggage as I pack efficiently -- global business travel is my jam and I carry those packing habits over to vacations. I wear Barbie size clothing and pack skinny. So I say skip the bulky clothing; go for cashmere/merino wool thermals and socks and wear your waterproof / resistance boots (my feet were never cold or wet walking on glaciers). I agree, pack sneakers as I work out every morning on top walking, hiking, dog musing, canoeing, fishing and animal watching. Because I am a spa junkie bring OKA-B sandals spa shoes are a must. Best tip on this video. My clothes I can wear from sunset to sunrise and always best dress. No Amazon fashons for me. There are too may other venues to shop for stylish clothing and see I do not want to see 10 other clones in my outfit on any given day. I refrain from packing excess or necessary clothing. Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendations; 1- I have to ask how may bags did you pack as an individual? 2- Which month(s) did you travel during your exploration of Alaska? in the end this cruise was amazing and I over packed which I was trying to avoid coming from Miami with only a carry-on. I did not pack or need any sweaters or layers and I was over heated everyday. My thermal layer was more than enough as a bottem layer. I did not bring a rain jacket. I went with a packable down vest and ski jacket, ski bib pants (I only work once because it was fashionable), umbrella hat and nice thick rain poncho and never took it out of the package. - it was not needed on any day. I say QUALITY over quantity. My timbelands kept my feet warm in the drizzle, hiking and just walking around Mendenhal. On the tour they gave us boots to walk on the Glacier. I had the cutest little dry back packit was invaluble over our 8 excursion days. I gave all of my purchased winter/cold weather gear purchsed (jacket, bib overal snow pants, gloves, earmuffs, hats and etc.) to one of vocalist-enterainers who wore my size as I would have no need for this stuff in Miami. I typically pack clothing I have not intentions on bring home so my return trip is lighter. I began tracking the weather begining two weeks b4 and it was mild 50-60's with light percipation on the Alaskan Islands -- Seattle was 85F and upon on our two days prior and 2 days after so we enjoyed a wonderul stay.
Appreciate all the tips. We spend a lot of time camping, so the layering thing is easy for us. The hardest part is figuring out what to wear on the ship. You answered so many of my questions. 😎 We don’t sail until Aug 2026, so we have time to gather the essentials over time. Can’t wait! It’s our 1st cruise!

Good info! However, I'm surprised no one is mentioning long john type underwear. I have 2 sets by Cuddle Duds (use over my regular underwear) in black and gray for under jeans, fleece leggings, and lighter weight sweaters. I'm amazed how that extra layer of thin soft fabric close to the skin keeps me warm in windy, freezing weather.

This is number one of four back to back cruises on Cunard, another is the transatlantic, and then polar regions and British Isles then Spain, France and Italy. 56 nights all up . I’m booked with my friend on a 14 day cruise on Holland America’s Noordam . I think it is called the collectors voyage round trip to and from Vancouver. It goes thru Glacier Bay, Juneau, Skagway, etc. We have never been to Alaska. We will fly in a few days early from hot humid Atlanta . The ship departs July 20 of next year 2025. So a year away! This video was excellent!!!!

I will be also on Jewel in October. I will just pack sport shoes + additional 100% silicone waterproof shoe covers (you can get them in a sports shop; I got them in proshop of golf course). In October there are only 4 !!! rainy days (average over the last years) in Alaska.

Appreciate any info you got on the subject. I have a regular coat, nice and warm one, but just a coat, which would not do for a cruise. So, I'm looking. I liked that jacket, but since I'm in a scooter, sleeves that are too long interfere even with my driving, so I need to look a bit more. Thanks so much for all the info!!!:)🤪

We're taking my mom and going up to Vancouver early to spend a few days up at Whistler, then back down to Anchorage for a couple days, then set sail on our 7 day cruise to Whittier, then up to Anchorage for a couple days. I’m booked with my friend on a 14 day cruise on Holland America’s Noordam . I think it is called the collectors voyage round trip to and from Vancouver. It goes thru Glacier Bay, Juneau, Skagway, etc. We have never been to Alaska. We will fly in a few days early from hot humid Atlanta . The ship departs July 20 of next year 2025. So a year away! This video was excellent!!!!

Leaving the first week of October NCL Jewel I’m debating on what type of shoes to get that won’t get wet…
I will be also on Jewel in October. I will just pack sport shoes + additional 100% silicone waterproof shoe covers (you can get them in a sports shop; I got them in proshop of golf course). In October there are only 4 !!! rainy days (average over the last years) in Alaska.
