- Hilary Benn, sacked as shadow foreign secretary by Jeremy Corbyn overnight says declaring no confidence in Mr Corbyn was a "very difficult decision". While he didn't vote for Jeremy Corbyn to be Labour leader, he wanted to support him as he had "supported every Labour leader". Mr Benn says his dismissal was "understandable" given his lack of confidence in Mr Corbyn's leadership.

But he is leader, isn't he? Democratically elected. Deal with it, or don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I agree. I think people are worried that Labour will not win the next election that is could possibly happen much earlier than expected.
Sure, people are quite rightly worried. But any responsible politician should see that what matters now is pulling together, uniting in the face of difficulty, whatever your differences, and doing what's needed.
No, they're not. Those who oppose him have had this agenda all along, and will jump at any opportunity to push it. They don't respect democracy, or those who voted him in with a large majority. They just want their own way and will do anything to get it. If they can't deal with reality, and don't respect their party and the decisions it makes they should be gone.
So true. It's unfortunate that the Blairites would rather replace Corbyn with one of their own champagne sipping toffs, which is part of the reason why Labour lost the last 2 elections. Nobody likes a Blairite, people want change which is want Corbyn offers. If Corbyn is kicked out then I'm not going to vote in the next election. I haven't voted in a long time and became very disillusioned with politics but it was JC that got me hope and got me back into it because for once there was a politician who made sense and who stood for people, not power and was prepared to stop the rich exploiting tax loopholes and create a fairer, more equal society.
Well said.
I'm gutted this is tony Benn's son :(
kev birko he has got a pint Jeremy was not a strong guy for Prime Minister.
Yeah unfortunately he was too weak to be leader.
4:50 "We have to accept the result of the referendum", yet 3 years later he along with lots of other Labour MPs pushed for a second referendum! This is where I'm still confused to this day, yes Corbyn was a problem in 2019 election, but a lot of MPs like Mr Benn should not escape the blame for being non-democratic. I'm confused as to why they changed their view from 2016.
Because Brexit was always going to be a disaster, and has proved to be a disaster. There is NO ARGUMENT about that.
There's a difference between disagreeing immediately after the referendum when it becomes "I didn't like that answer, let's do it again", and calling for it a few years on when it's clear that it was being very difficult to negociate and the benefits weren't emerging as promised.
Tory Labour have been waiting for a good opportunity to turn on Jeremy ever since he became leader. If Jeremy leaves so will I☺
Corbyn was the worst thing that happened. Its also people like you that made people like me not vote Labour. Worst defeat since 1930s. Jesus.
Hilary 'Lizard Tongue' Benn
Your father would be ashamed
Hindsight Hilary couldn't have been more correct. Funny reading all these Corbynistas bagging on Benn, when history proved he was completely right in everything he said. And to the detriment of the country, Corbyn's ego was more important.
It's where a leader leads us that matters. Hilary Benn and Angle Eagle would lead us to more warmongering. JC would leads us to maintaining peace and a redistribution of wealth. Jeremy Corbyn is a democratic 'leader', is consistent, has staying power and cannot be bought.🙈🙉🙊
The words strong leadership keeps on being throw about...what does this actually mean? What does Corbyn need to do to be considered a strong leader by these MP's? By strong leader I suspect they mean agree with their ideal on neoliberal politics AKA Tory Lite. No thanks.
Corbyn was always in favor of the UK leaving the EU but now he was for staying? Why?
See, this is what happens when you give a boy a quintessential girl's name and they don't pick up the guitar.
So he would like JC to step down but will not name a replacement?
When people says that someone is a good guy and then relentlessly attacks them, it just rubs me up the wrong way.
You can disagree with good people. Politics isn’t friendly and it shouldn’t be friendly.
Benn is a horrible spineless man. Just such an awful guy compared to his father.
It is essential to the Blairites that when Chilcot is debated in
parliament in two weeks time, Jeremy Corbyn is not in place as Labour
leader to speak in the debate.’ Hilary you red Tory, high five Tony Iraq Blair when you see him later.
This is really Benn working out his Oedipus Complex.
What a snake, I bet Tony is rolling.
The problem here is that the major political parties in the UK, from the 80s, moved away from a simple principle that had existed for 300 years in our Parliament. The Prime Minister (PM) is the Member of Parliament (MP) who commands the loyalty of the largest number of other MPs. Consequently, ONLY, the MPs should vote on this. We the people elect our MPs and the MPs elect/appoint the PM, this is done through a party system. What we potentially have in the next few months is a few 100,000 people (the members of the two main parties) effectively conduct a presidential election over the heads of the majority of people who are not party members.
Why does no one ever mention the fact he has a Girl's name?
😂
Plot twist: He's secretly Hillary Clinton
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England It is not a girl's name. It is a name given to a son by very posh parents; ie toffs.
Hilary lol hes a traitor!
Remainers - please sign the petition, which is now at 3 million.

Marine and Marion Le Pen call for referendum in France on European Union membership

A petition isn't going to anything you ponse
The petition literally won't do anything.
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England Signing a petition is exercising our democratic right.
+dloverise True but we just had a referendum and you lost, accept it and move on. I can see why you love the EU so much, you have their attitude to Democracy; 'The plebs voted the wrong way?! Make them vote again until they get it right!'
Snake snake snake man I will not vote for you so don't even thing of a challenge
I'd like to remind other Brits that as a country we are in this together and that calling each other scum and being extremely childish will only serve to tear this great country apart. Are you loyal to this country or to your party?
So, all three traditional parties are competing to see who can punch themselves in the face the hardest?
An ideal development! Corbyn is not popular among the Labour MPs who came in on Blairs coat tails, voted to follow the Americans in the major war crime of the Iraq War, voted to bomb Syria, a secular state in the middle east and a member of the United Nations, voted to bomb Libya who had done is no harm, voted to impose and then raise university fees, refused to build any council houses at all over 15 years and are/were on the verge of selling off the last of our independence to the Americans via ttip. If they are resign Corbyn can tap real Labour people..who will work well with him AND be popular with the millions of us who support Corbyn and his values. So goodbye Mr Benn. Go vote with the tories if theyll have you.

What a really great comment.
I don't trust this snake a word. Despicable! Stay strong and firm Jeremy! We've backed you!!
Didn’t work.
Good riddance, what an awful traitor. Where is own country going when a good and decent man can not get support. I am sick of the growing greed in our society. Corrupt media and politicians. This referendum is a result of the public being muffled for to long.
#KeepCorbyn
Haha worst defeat for Labour since 1930. Brilliant leader Corbyn was, brilliant.
Does any one the practicalities of deselecting Labour MP's who have chosen to betray democracy?
The most important thing to be a leader is to be a decent man.
And Corbyn never was
Good business leaders don't have hearts though....
Doing it for the party that you care so much about but what about the people that you represent? Party before plebs.
Jeremy Corbyn = Win for Britain.. John McDonnell = Win for Britain. Hilary Benn = knob head.
Tony Benn = win for Britain
I would have expected someone with leadership qualities to make a statement of intent by sacking, immediately, any underling who shows disloyalty. Oh, right. ''Woops'' - Mr Benn 2016.
Hilary Benn- neither a decent man nor a leader.
I like Hilary Benn who stood up in parliament and defied Corbyn, who oppose a parliamentary vote. Aren't plenty MPs doing the same to May.
benn is an embarressment to his late father, he should have joined his beloved TOLY PARTY as he is no a labour member but a BLUE TOLY
!!!!!FREEDOM FOR SCOTLAND !!!!! ARE YOU YES YET !!!!!
Hillary's neither a decent man, nor a leader.
Touche!
JUDAS
Got to love the way he says "but"
What were the hundreds of labour party MPs and thousands of Labour party activists doing. Jeremy Corbyn cannot be leading the party, on a day-to-day basis, regardless of what else is going on, and doing the jobs that the Labour party's MPs and party activists were SUPPOSED to be doing, to rally the vote.
Jeremy for prime minister☺
Baz H this aged well.
what is wrong with brits today? it's just one bad decision after another. benn obviously thinks he is charting a path to the top. another clueless choice.
corybyn 4 the win
And how did that work out for Labor?
Trouble makers. Benn have you no shame. You have no respect for the political process.
get rid of all blairite snakes and i will vote labour
Gisella Stuart as the new Labour BREXIT leader can beat Boris in a general election
Is he a Benn??? Never!!!
Wrong
He gives no reason for his decision other than 'lack of leadership' without explaining the specifics on what that means. The bulk of the Labour Party are very much behind him.
These resignations are good. Those without the stomach should leave and the Blairites should leave.
If his dad could see him, he'd be ashamed. He's a disgrace to the name Benn.
Sell out
At this critical time we need strong and effective leadership - which you don't get by stabbing your leader in the back. All the Labour rebels want deselecting. They should go and join the Social Democrats, or the Tories (which they really serve) or go and form their own party. There is now a massive divide between the NEW 'Labour' parliamentarians and the people who vote Labour. Britain needs a left of centre party and the NEW 'Labour' elite have moved so far to the right they no longer represent anyone to the left of Nick Clegg.
well they do say talent skips a generation
traitor
They said they didn't believe Corbyn could win an election, but the better he did in the polls and the closer he got to no.10, the more they stamped and screamed.
He nowhere near No.10. However, after the 2017 election the party backed him more.
My left bollock is closer to number 10 than Corbyn ever was.
He was right.
Going public to stick the knife in. "A good and decent man". Yes Hilary. Yes. A time for solidarity and to have some respect for the massive number of people who voted for Corbyn and subsequently a Brexit. Corbyn doesnt feel he has to resign like Cameron as he didnt stake his career on it. Dirty move Hilary. Very poor form. Why wasn't this brought up pre Brexit. Cowardly
Corbyn needs to go...
Surely a person such as Hilary should realise there are many different styles of leadership and just because he doesn't fit Benn's preferred model, doesn't make him not a leader.
He led Labour to 2 consecutive defeats. Not exactly a good style of leadership.
Jeremy Corbyn has to go. He's got no connection with the working man and he's no leader.
MadmanJoE100 Then explain why all the labour areas voted to leave the EU. Corbyn has absolutely no connection with the working man whatsoever. The referendum was his first proper leadership test and he failed miserably. R.I.P Labour Party.
Like former coal miner Dennis Skinner?
He has lots of connections with the working man, it was working people who voted him in as leader in the first place. The media and the Blairites want you to think he is useless but he has connected with lots of people all across Britain including the youth and people who were previously disillusioned with politics. Would you rather have a blairite in place who doesn't give a 5hit about normal people, just about himself and his rich friends?
+W-James
Because the EU is an undemocratic oligarchy with no accountability. Not Corbyns fault. Many people agree the EU needs reform & trying to change it from the inside wasn't a terrible idea.
MadmanJoE100 Young people voted to stay in but so few young people even vote. The labour party that represented the the working man has gone. It died when they elected a wealthy, North London geek and then when they elected a hippy/communist. He's no leader. I will never vote labour again if they keep him as their leader. And Labour will get thrashed again in the next general election.
Hilary Benn i think should be the Leader of the Labour Party because he is more of a Leader than Jeremy Corbyn will ever be because i cant see Jeremy Corbyn becoming the PM which is a shame because the Country needs a change in leadership and in the upcoming general election i really dont know who to vote for,
I think the general idea was to have a leader of the Labour party who could offer workable alternative policies.. but we're still waiting. Then we hoped that Corbyn could challenge the Tories effectively.... he's been an outright failure. Then we hoped Corbyn could start looking like a Prime Minister in waiting.... not a chance. It's nice to know Corbyn has a lot of support amongst grass root Labour party members.... but that is meaningless in a democracy where you need to attract support, not repel it. Some call Corbyn an honourable man. Most members of the public see him as a blinkered fossil who hasn't a clue!
Such a shame. The son of a great man doing all this.
Nazir Ahmad His father was well known, but certainly not great. What did he do to be described as great?
Simpson Henry I think his principles. He stood for what was right.
Corbyn out Benn in !!
As a life long member and supporter of the Labour party I wish Corbyn would resign as a *no hope* prime minister. I would love a Labour Prime minister but sadly I concur . Jeremy Corbyn has no hope whatsoever.
