  • Hilary Benn, sacked as shadow foreign secretary by Jeremy Corbyn overnight says declaring no confidence in Mr Corbyn was a "very difficult decision". While he didn't vote for Jeremy Corbyn to be Labour leader, he wanted to support him as he had "supported every Labour leader". Mr Benn says his dismissal was "understandable" given his lack of confidence in Mr Corbyn's leadership.

    But he is leader, isn't he? Democratically elected. Deal with it, or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

      I agree. I think people are worried that Labour will not win the next election that is could possibly happen much earlier than expected.

    • @LoreleiLala
      @LoreleiLala 8 років тому +3

      Sure, people are quite rightly worried. But any responsible politician should see that what matters now is pulling together, uniting in the face of difficulty, whatever your differences, and doing what's needed.

    • @LoreleiLala
      @LoreleiLala 8 років тому +5

      No, they're not. Those who oppose him have had this agenda all along, and will jump at any opportunity to push it. They don't respect democracy, or those who voted him in with a large majority. They just want their own way and will do anything to get it. If they can't deal with reality, and don't respect their party and the decisions it makes they should be gone.

    • @ch-p2861

      So true. It's unfortunate that the Blairites would rather replace Corbyn with one of their own champagne sipping toffs, which is part of the reason why Labour lost the last 2 elections. Nobody likes a Blairite, people want change which is want Corbyn offers. If Corbyn is kicked out then I'm not going to vote in the next election. I haven't voted in a long time and became very disillusioned with politics but it was JC that got me hope and got me back into it because for once there was a politician who made sense and who stood for people, not power and was prepared to stop the rich exploiting tax loopholes and create a fairer, more equal society.

    4:50 "We have to accept the result of the referendum", yet 3 years later he along with lots of other Labour MPs pushed for a second referendum! This is where I'm still confused to this day, yes Corbyn was a problem in 2019 election, but a lot of MPs like Mr Benn should not escape the blame for being non-democratic. I'm confused as to why they changed their view from 2016.

      There's a difference between disagreeing immediately after the referendum when it becomes "I didn't like that answer, let's do it again", and calling for it a few years on when it's clear that it was being very difficult to negociate and the benefits weren't emerging as promised.

    It's where a leader leads us that matters. Hilary Benn and Angle Eagle would lead us to more warmongering. JC would leads us to maintaining peace and a redistribution of wealth. Jeremy Corbyn is a democratic 'leader', is consistent, has staying power and cannot be bought.🙈🙉🙊

    The words strong leadership keeps on being throw about...what does this actually mean? What does Corbyn need to do to be considered a strong leader by these MP's? By strong leader I suspect they mean agree with their ideal on neoliberal politics AKA Tory Lite. No thanks.

    The problem here is that the major political parties in the UK, from the 80s, moved away from a simple principle that had existed for 300 years in our Parliament. The Prime Minister (PM) is the Member of Parliament (MP) who commands the loyalty of the largest number of other MPs. Consequently, ONLY, the MPs should vote on this. We the people elect our MPs and the MPs elect/appoint the PM, this is done through a party system. What we potentially have in the next few months is a few 100,000 people (the members of the two main parties) effectively conduct a presidential election over the heads of the majority of people who are not party members.

    An ideal development! Corbyn is not popular among the Labour MPs who came in on Blairs coat tails, voted to follow the Americans in the major war crime of the Iraq War, voted to bomb Syria, a secular state in the middle east and a member of the United Nations, voted to bomb Libya who had done is no harm, voted to impose and then raise university fees, refused to build any council houses at all over 15 years and are/were on the verge of selling off the last of our independence to the Americans via ttip. If they are resign Corbyn can tap real Labour people..who will work well with him AND be popular with the millions of us who support Corbyn and his values. So goodbye Mr Benn. Go vote with the tories if theyll have you.

    At this critical time we need strong and effective leadership - which you don't get by stabbing your leader in the back. All the Labour rebels want deselecting. They should go and join the Social Democrats, or the Tories (which they really serve) or go and form their own party. There is now a massive divide between the NEW 'Labour' parliamentarians and the people who vote Labour. Britain needs a left of centre party and the NEW 'Labour' elite have moved so far to the right they no longer represent anyone to the left of Nick Clegg.

    I think the general idea was to have a leader of the Labour party who could offer workable alternative policies.. but we're still waiting. Then we hoped that Corbyn could challenge the Tories effectively.... he's been an outright failure. Then we hoped Corbyn could start looking like a Prime Minister in waiting.... not a chance. It's nice to know Corbyn has a lot of support amongst grass root Labour party members.... but that is meaningless in a democracy where you need to attract support, not repel it. Some call Corbyn an honourable man. Most members of the public see him as a blinkered fossil who hasn't a clue!
