Every Wednesday after a video is released on UA-cam, I do a live Q&A session, at 3 PM ET. I may also take the opportunity to discuss something in the video in more detail or maybe something I realize I didn’t talk about in the video. Some of the quilting cherubs share their own insight on the topic with others too!! Come and check it out!
You can also join our community group, “HALO’s Creative Kingdom” ( / 795507740874535 . This is a wonderful, supportive group of quilting cherubs. We have a HALO’s Happy Hour in the community that meets with me and other quilting cherubs, live, usually once a week. We hope to see YOU in there!
May you continue to be inspired, productive, and joyful! And may you never stop making your dreams in quilting come true!

Thank you for honoring the lady who has graduated and for using her material to the benefit of others.
Trudy, thank you for stopping by! Every quiltered should be honored! Quilters are very unique, caring individuals. Thank you for taking the time to comment and express your gratitude in the idea! It has been fun, and makes your heart feel warm and fuzzy when you do something special!
That's really pretty!
To tell the truth I did not think I was going to like it. But after it was squared and pressed I love it!
Thank you. It is sew much fun seeing what you can do with small scraps.
Hello! After a hectic but fun day, it is so nice to sit and watch your video. I hope you have a peaceful week ahead. Thank you for sharing this video and your time.
Hope this week is a less hectic one for you! I will spend some time on your channel this coming weekend! Look forward to seeing you! Happy Quilting to you!
Always wash flannel before you use it in quilting, it shrinks a lot! It will distort your blocks. Prewash . Your other quilt-quality cotton fabrics won’t noticeably shrink much and don’t require pre washing. Regular calico and apparel cottons, even craft cottons, will shrink. Prewash. If you mix them without taking this little extra bit of effort in preparation to sit down at the machine to enjoy the stitching up of your blocks you might end up regretting it. Also, some of the beautiful fabrics in this great windfall you have received respond very poorly to being laundered- glittery ones, those with a sheen to them… Just a bit of friendly, supportive advice from one quilting teacher to another. Best wishes!
Great tip. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for your tips stands to reason I'm very important. Appreciate it thank you for sharing that's very helpful tip
You seem to be making it more difficult than it is. And sorry, but l think you talk too much. It did come out really nice though.
@user-ks1yu7fq3h Yes, I am a talker! This video is for inspiration and a place for people to start if they have never crazy pieced. If you have a way that is better for you, go for it! There are no rules in quilting, just guidelines. "Do what makes sense to you, and what makes you happy" is something we truly believe in. Happy quilting to you, and thank you for stopping by!
Wow Love this hope that I will get too do this,Thanks 54:47
Thanks!
Your generosity is only outdone by your kindness. Thank you! We are touched by your Super Thanks! Happy Crazy Quilting to you!!
So darn adorable! Love it!
You are so kind. Thank you 😊
This is what I needed to see. I wanted to make a crazy quilt with yardage I have been given but have never been able to figure out where and how to cut. Thanks so much!
You are so welcome! Please share when you make yours.
We use that very same term - they have graduated. To us so much kinder to the ears!! When you have trimmed or cut fabric on the foundation fabric I have held my breath - I would have cut the foundation a long time ago!!! This was my first time I have watched you and I have really enjoyed this seeing this block go together. Thank you so very much.
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed our video. Please share your work for inspiration.
In our church, we call it Promoted to Glory. The Salvation Army.

I am so glad you love this. This is a great beginner quilt. Please review my other videos I try to reach out for all quilting levels. When you are finished please show us your quilt. God bless you also
Your block turned out to be beautiful!
Thank you. That is sew nice of you
They are so pretty I love the Christmas fabric I make crazy quilt pillows and wall hangings
Crazy quilts are sew fun. Please share some of your projects.
This tutorial is so helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful. Thank you for the kind words. Please come back
I loved your beautiful idea to give this quilt to charity and I particularly love the Christmas theme. I too would like to do that, especially for an elderly person who perhaps doing it tough, or a young person who's on the street. I'm going away with hubby for a couple of months, coincidentally, to the U.S. (Va) to visit our only son and the grandchildren, at Easter and when we return, I think that'll be a good time to look through my scrap basket to see what I've got so I can get started on it. Be happy. From Oz with love.
Thank you Suzanne! That is one of the great gifts that we quilters have ! We have so much kindness in our heart that we love to pay it forward! I am sew glad that I was an inspiration as you are to me. Please post a picture of your finished quilt
Thank you for a great video. I have always wanted to make a crazy quilt but I always had problems with the angles. I am so excited to try this pattern.
You are so welcome. We are glad to help. Please show your project when you are finished
Thanks for this great video. I just started doing a crazy quilt, and it is a hot mess on my table while working on even one block, lol. But after each block, I put my fabrics back into their color piles for when I do the next one. We have a Goodwill Outlet where I buy old clothes, curtains, bedspreads, sheets, etc. by the pound. It comes out to about $1 an item. Otherwise I find even regular Goodwills too expensive for making a crazy quilt. It takes a lot more fabric than I thought. Thanks so much for the great tutorial!
You are so welcome. Thank you for stopping by Tracy. Please share your crazy quilt when it is finished.
I prefer to cut strips ahead of time. 1in. 2in. 3in. 4in . Wide in each of my fabrics, makes itgo a little faster for the piecing and sewing
Brilliant idea!!!! Thank you for sharing! Love, love, love it!!
Great sewing and instruction. CRazy quilting is a bit too fiddly for me but a great way to use up scraps. BBTW, the shiny silver fabric appears to be Lame, pronounced la-may. Thanks for helping to keep this wonderful craft alive and well.👍
You are so welcome. I agree it is a great way to use up scraps. Thank you for stopping by.
A Christmas crazy quilt tote bag would be cute.
Brilliant idea!!!!
I use pages from an old phone book as my foundation and then quickly tear them out (they come out super fast like paper piecing) this way, I don't have any additional backing on my blocks.
Brilliant!!! Bonnie Hunter also uses old phone book paper! It truly does work great! Thank you for sharing your method, as their maybe someone who reads your comments that would enjoy your method better! Merry Christmas, and Happy Quilting!
Great Job❤
Thank you. Please stop by again.
That shiny fabric is Lamae
Thank you for the information Pam. I love how that fabric enhanced the look of the block. I hope you enjoyed the video. Please stop by again
Thank you this was very informative. Happy new year from your new subscriber. 💖
Happy New Year to you, and welcome, cherub, to the HALO community! We are excited you are here! Have you made a crazy quilt? If this is new to you, I encourage you to watch the Blank Stitch video (ua-cam.com/video/fy243l9rC9s/v-deo.html), as I talk about the history of it, some examples of crazy quilts, I talk about threads and needles, and some embellishing ideas. Lastly, I am new to hand embroidery. Therefore, I recommend a professionally trained embroider for you to check out and other ideas in my last video for the crazy quilt (as of now, that is). Check out the end of video, "Lets Get Crazy with Linear Stitches!!" The link for that video is ua-cam.com/video/euQ8jRPfIos/v-deo.html. Happy Quilting! I sure do hope that one day you will share your beautiful quilting with us!!
love this 😀❤
Thank you 😊 it was sew fun making it. I hope this inspired you to make it too. Please share if you do.
A burn test is my go to if I'm trying to figure out of a fabric is cotton, poly, or a blend
Brilliant!!!!!! Thank you for sharing! Happy Quilting!
I just subscribed because I like How you teach by chatting!
Thank you for the kind words. We feel like everyone who watch are friends. We want everyone to feel welcome.
I have used old, stained, thin, white sheets (that had small holes) for foundation piecing on. But, I like using cheap copy paper better (because I get to remove the paper and check my seams). It is a very pretty block. Nice job. I like to use flannel on the back of my quilts.
Thank you. It is fun making crazy blocks, a great way to use up your scraps.
Using flannel as backing is a great idea. It would be sew comfortable and warm. Thank you Arvetta for stopping by.
Helpful tutorial 👍 I’m inspired to try this quilt thank you 👏
It was our pleasure! Happy Crazy Quilting to you!!
Pellon SF 101: shape flex one-sided adhesive makes a great foundation for a crazy quilt patchwork. Sew pieces on to 101 foundation adhesive side UP...AFTER all pieces are sewn THEN press and square up block. If you do not want to use batting between top and back, it's great as a Summer Quilt between top and back. It's lightwt and flexible and NO paper to tear out.
Fantabulous advise. Thank you for sharing
Today is June 17, 2004, and it's the 1st time for me to see this video. I was going to ask you if you'd sell me some of that beautiful fabric, until I saw this video is two years old. I'm sure you have already used all of this fabric by now 😢. I would like to add one of these days I will have enough scraps to make this block. Thank you for your easy to follow tutorials. May God bless you always.😊❤
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed this video. Crazy quilt blocks are fun to make. Please share when you make one.
Is the shiny fabric called Lame? Awesome to have a friend who gave you lots of beautiful fabric. Beautiful blocks thank you for sharing
Yes, it is! See, our Favorite Southern Bell saves the day once again! Hope you give this one a shot! Love ya! Happy Quilting!
@@HALO_Inspirations love ❤️ you
Great block. I have four tons of fabric
This sure is a great way to use up your fabric. ❤️. Please share when you are finished.
I DON'T THINK I HAVE EVER SEEN A CRAZY QUILT THAT WAS N'T BEAUTIFUL . I LOVE TO SEW AND MAKING STRIP QUILTS, RAG QUILTS AND CRAZY QUILTS IS MY FAVORITE THINGS TO SEW . I THINK I MIGHT TRY A CRAZY RAG QUILT . I BELIEVE I WILL NEED TO SEW A SEAM AROUND THE EDGE ( back about 3/4 of an inch from the edge ) OF EACH SQUARE TO MAKE SURE IT DOES N'T COME APART . I THINK A RAG CRAZY QUILT WOULD BE AWESOME !
I can see your excitement Please share when you make it. I am sure it will be awesome!
This was a great video. The only thing I got confused on was the 2nd piece of foundation on your table. It was hard to tell what you were covering or what still needed to be covered.
Thank you for pointing that out I reviewed the video again and I understand about the other foundation squares being under the block that I was showing you and how it was hard to determine where the current block started and stopped. I will try to keep this in mind on future videos. Thank you for stopping by.
P.S. I would love to see a picture of the finished quilt top.❤❤😊😊😊
It is so hard to get scrap fabric for making my lap quilts. It would be nice to be as blessed as you to receive the gift. Quilt on in happiness.
Thank you. We are truely blessed
I love making crumb blocks but without foundation. What is the difference in the a crazy and crumb block or is there an advantage to using foundation?
Great question! I also crumb piece without foundation. The method I use to crumb piece doesn't work with a foundation, and doesn't need to be stabilized as I crumb with all the same type of fabric. The method I demonstrated for the crazy quilt is quilter's choice. However, I do it to give me a consistent size block and stabilization for utilizing different types of fabric. It also lends some stability when I do the embellishing. Most of the traditional crazy quilts were sewn on foundation. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for asking, as I am sure other quilter's were also wondering!! Have a fantabulous Friday! Look forward to hearing from you again! Happy Quilting!🪡🥰
Have you
Ever heard of a whack and stack quilt top. I have never seen one completed. I once had book telling how to do it. But it cameupmin maybe you can find it and do one
I have done a whack a stack...great idea for a future video! Thank you for the suggestion!
I love the crazy quilt. However it looks as if there's a lot of wasted fabric putting in your scraps having to cut away is there a way that you can assemble this block without having to cut so much of it off? Thank you
We quilters hate to waste fabric and we do our best to not waste any more then we need to. Yes you can cut smaller pieces from your scraps and use them in your crazy quilt blocks.
Are you going to use a shashing to put block together?
I haven't decided. In this video: ua-cam.com/video/fy243l9rC9s/v-deo.htmlsi=b_pKqYDB69fH-001 I talk about the history and show examples of others crazy quilts.
Yes anything scrappy is a real mess a hotmess yoh inspired me God bless you also t y 😊
Scrappy and non scrappy always makes my sewing room a mess! But scrappy is just more special, "sew" hot mess is right!!! Have you made a crazy/crumb quilt before?
Sou do Brasil e amo crazy. Adorei. Curiosidade, qual a marca da sua máquina? É doméstica?. Felicidades
I have Singers for my domestics and a Juki for the longarm. Thanks for stopping by all the way from beautiful Brazil!! Happy crazy quilting to you!!
This was fabulous... And I love these kinds of scrap busting blocks, specially for novelty fabric. You can always cut strips off your fabrics with a ruler in different widths to get straight sides.
If you always cut opposite of your selvage to keep that info if needed later.
This was a fun video to watch. You definitely inspired me.
Thank you and I enjoyed the stories so don't stop doing that. Plus... You work as you share...
Thanks, this was fun
Thank you for the kind words. That is our goal to bring joy and inspiration to all of you. Thank you for stopping by
Will want to sell some of that Christmas material
Right? If I was ready to sell the material, and it was cost effective, that would be a fast way to get through it. However, still working on my Crazy quilt and it is probably easier to donate the rest. :) Thanks for stopping by!!! Look forward to seeing you again! Happy Quilting!
What did you happened to use as your foundations here in this video
There was a thin, white fabric in the pile of the fabric I received from that passed on quilter. If I would pick something I had, or needed to buy, I would use either muslin, a white solid, or a darker solid (depending on color of fabric used to crazy piece on top). It really doesn't matter, as it is the back and no one will see it. Because I will embellish by hand on the top, the only thing I wouldn't use is batting. Just quilter's choice. Remember, there are no rules to quilting, just guidelines. I have thought about trying a sew-in interfacing. I'm not sure if it would be easy to use or not. Just sharing thoughts that go through my head at times. Thanks for stopping by and happy quilting!
What youused a hexagon in the center to start with. 26:57
I just fuzzy cut some Christmas fabric. Starting the center of crazy quilt with a multiple sided piece makes it easier.
The shiny fabric will melt if you apply an iron. Cover with a cloth before pressing..
Thank you Jeanne. I will keep that in mind next time
Be careful taffeta isn't washable. That was the plaid shiny one. Sometimes if you aren't sure leave it out. Other than that you did a great job. I taught quilt outside the box as some want to add too many rules.
Thank you for your suggestion!!!! Love it! And thank you for stopping by! Happy Quilting!
Very creative. It would be easier to follow if the extra foundation pieces were moved away.
Thank you for your input. Please stop by again.
I made a chrit
Mas crazy quilt several years ago when i was finished i used goldish color thread and used different stitches on top of the seams came out @@HALO_Inspirations
Don't use flannel with regular cotton.
Thanks for your suggestion...The crazy quilts use all kinds of fabric inside their blocks...such fun to allow yourself to be free...of course, with your own quilt, you could definitely have your very own guidelines!! Whatever makes you happy!!!
I agree, flannel shrinks A LOT more than quilting cotton.
I have 2 flannel shirts and they have not shrunk. I've had them for about 5 years and wash them frequently. I think some of the flannel is mixed with some kind of syntnetic, keeping it from shrinking.
Why use a fabric more than once if you have such an abundance of fabric! I do love the block🧵🧵🧵🧵
That is what is great about crazy quilts. You can use any size fabric as often as you want. No reason just because you like how it looks. Thank you for stopping by. Happy quilting
Very nice block but I have to tell you that the quality of the video is not clear at all. It’s quite murky and blurry. Love the fabrics you used.
Thank you we agree. We are going back and remaking some of our videos. Please continue watching to see the change.
❤❤❤😮
Thank you for stopping by.
By having the other foundation squares under the one you are working on it is very confusing as to where you are in piecing.....also, I would use only cotton fabric to be sure the whole block shrunk the same amount.
Thank you for stopping by. Sorry about the confusing background. Yes cotton fabric may be better but this is a crazy quilt and with quilting there are no rules. We just wanted to be “crazy” with our fabric choices.
I have an old crazy quilt. The thinner, shiny fabrics just disintegrated, while resting in a closet. Very sad!
Oh no. That is sew sad that happened to your quilt. Is there any way you can repair it?
😃❤
Thank you for stopping by
You might want to wash that red flannel before putting into a quilt. The red dye will bleed onto the other fabrics.
Thank you for the tip. We will keep that in mind the next time.
Maybe go to Jo-Ann and ask the saleswoman if you can wash it! I know that I won't put it in the dryer! Good luck
Good suggestion thank you.
😂❤❤❤
Glad you liked the video
No rules but you must cover the foundation piece
See...you get it!!! Yes! No rules, but guidelines. And one of them is definitely to cover that foundation piece! Thanks for stopping by! Happy Quilting!
Я тоже люблю пэчворк. Вашу работу можно было показать за 3-4 минуты, а не за 54. Извините, не обижайтесь.
Thank you for sharing. Your feedback is appreciated. I will keep that in mind. I feel that beginner quilters benefit with more explanation. Thank you for stopping by.
Send me some of that frabic
If you live close-ish, I would be more than happy to!
That took forever to make!
You can make the crazy quilt block as fast or slow as you would like! Thanks for stopping by, and happy quilting to you!
I don’t like that you will cut the Santa’s head off!
Lol...im so sorry...poor Santa...I could have done it better for sure, but it didn't bother me. I'll try better next time!
Lammé
Thank you for the information. Please stop by again.
Lamay...spelled wrong for the Shiney fabric.
Thank you for the information 💕
It's actually spelled LAME.
Lamay fabric
Thank you for that information.
Poor santa
Lol...Yes, Guadalupe...poor Santa...I promise to care of him better in the future...I hope I don't get any coal this Christmas...thank you for commenting...you truly have brought a smile to my face and heart today!
Seems wasteful to just whack off chunks of fabric. I don’t think I could do that.
Thank you for your thoughts. We quilters cringe at the thought of fabric waste but we also know that sometimes it can’t be avoided. We do our best to salvage what we can. Thank you for stopping by.
Sell me some I went Christmas material so I can make me a Christmas quilt
Currently, I am not selling the fabric that I received from the inheritance of our friend. However, we do have an online quilt shop! If you live in the lower 48, you can shop Christmas fabric at www.haloinspired.com/shop! Happy Quilting!
I went and got something to drink. Then went the bathroom. I left you running.... came back and you were still talking. (About useless info) And no sewing 10 mins. in. okay I will move on!
Thanks for your input. I am a talker at times. Part of my personality. I wish you happy quilting, and a most fantabulous day! Thank you for stopping by!
Lame
Lame is the name of gold fabric
Thank you for letting me know what the fabric is! It is very kind of you to take the time to share your knowledge! And thank you for qualifying your message...we had a good laugh about it all...hope you have a most fantabulous day and Happy Quilting to you!
Too slow…
I am happy that you stopped by. I try to reach out to all level of quilters. I hope you come by again. Maybe I will be a little faster next time
What in the world, right? Can't watch you.
