Here is a link to the video featuring the old quilt that inspired this block: ua-cam.com/video/7zaPXdCKBBI/v-deo.html .
The block is a variation of Edna's Choice (#101) according the book 5500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone.
As a SUPER beginner I appreciate this video. I hate wasting fabric
Yay! So glad it is helpful!
I'm so glad to see that you pin so much. I thought there was something wrong with me, since I can't seem to sew without pinning. Thank you. 🙂🙃🙂
A kindred spirit! I love it! I would much rather pin than use the seam ripper. 😀 Goad I am not the only one, too. ❤️
You can also glue as well
I also pin my blocks, a quilt teacher said it help keel it nice and even. Never look so neat if I don't. 😊 happy quilting
You guys don’t need to pin and actually it doesn’t help the fabric lay flat. I use glue or that wonder tape. Super simple don’t need to spend time taking pins out as you’re sewing it’s so fast
I found a similar type of wonder tape at Joann fabric and it works just as well. And I got a lot more for a dollar the wonder tape brand is a little bit more pricey
@@dcwatashiThat stuff is spendy and has issues of its own!
I love my love my yellow-head pins, 500 pack! You should see the ladies at the shop flip.over my nice crisp intersections on my *heavy-fabric, with everything from cordouroy to sateen finishes, damask, upholstery, etc, 1199+ separate squares* --- that stuff goes walking no matter how you hold it!
Yes, perhaps basic cotton holds itself in place almost perfectly, but most other fabrics have other ideas.
Longer pins enable you to pin without buckling the fabric, and also assist in stress-free "taking up" of excess length, since you sit and split the difference with pins until you like the distribution, then as you sew you can relax just trust that you placed the pins well, and enjoy your beautiful seam!
I loved your opening where all different seasons and holidays could be made with this awesome Block. I watched this twice‼️👏👏💜
Thank you, Vicki! I am so happy you love it! ❤️

I absolutely loved them! Perfected for our end of year bunches & bunches of scraps. I do have to add I love the older quilts. I have 5 right now I punched from an older sweet woman.. She just didn’t want them any longer😢 I felt I had to rescue them!!! 😊
Love this! Rescued quilts are the best! Happy they have a great home now. ❤️
I plan to use this block for Christmas quilts for family gifts.

This is a great block for a memory quilt where people write lovely things and sign in center block. I have one similar to this.
Love love love this idea! Thank you for sharing!
I love scrappy & this is another great way to use up fabric. My goal this year is to do exactly that & not buy any fabric except maybe background & backing as needed. Thanks for sharing!!
Love this goal! I should follow your lead! ❤️
I love love love this block! 👍🏻💖👵🏻
Thank you so much! ❤️
Love this idea! I think I’ll use full sized jelly roll strips and cut them down into 2 patches and just toss ‘em in a basket until I have a whole pile to make into a quilt (putting the 2 patches randomly all over the quilt so it doesn’t get matchy-matchy).
Thanks for sharing!
GREAT IDEA! Love that! It would add another element to the fun for sure! Thank you!
Thankyou thankyou Kris for this video. Your object might have been to show us how to do the scrappy quilt block and yes, I really enjoyed this but what I valued most was the lesson on how to square up your block. I was given a whole bunch of blocks made by different people and asked to sew them together. My mind went blank because all the squares were, well, not uniform in their square and I didn't know where to start. Especially too because I had cut and made some blocks to go with it too. Mine all matched, other blocks matched each other but nothing was uniform. Now I can fix it all up. Finally, I know what I am doing!!!!!!! Thank you.
Yayyyy! I love when that happens! I am happy it is useful. ❤️
Very fun simple block. Like that you showed it in different style fabric too.
It really is! Glad you liked it!
Scrappy is my fav! Kept watching for this video. Thanks so muchfor sharing. I will definitely be doing these blocks. Maybe one with all seasons in one quilt!

from Gerry- I really enjoy your channel. I cut up my leftovers into 5" squares and 2.5" strips so I am ready for this lovely quilt. God bless.
Hi Gerry! Thank you so much! I love that you are making this fun block and that you love my videos. Blessings to you and your family!
I’m going to be cutting lots of two and a half inch squares to use as leaders when I’m sewing other projects with the aim of creating these blocks 👍 I loved how your ‘old quilt’ had the same fabric for the sashings and block centres so I’m also going to look for a suitable fabric while I’m making the squares 🥰 So looking forward to getting on with this 😊 Thanks for sharing your wonderful quilt 👍🇬🇧
YAY! That's a great idea! I am sure the quilt will be amazing! The old quilt was so inspiring, I just had to recreate the block. ❤️ Thank you for watching and sharing this great idea!
Hi Chris. I just watched this video today, 9.2.23 because I have a tub of 5" squares to make donation quilts. I've tried just sewing them randomly together and it isn't appealing to me. Your special block really makes the block look awesome. I watch all of the videos you post and really enjoy them. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Thank you so much! This makes my heart so happy! 🥰
i am sorry the block isn't working for you. 😔 Maybe try just one or two colors from your scraps? Let me know if I can help you with this.
I love this block and reminds me of how I was taught to sew💞 a very long time ago.
I love this! ❤️❤️❤️
I discovered you during the 12 days of Christmas quilts. Have enjoyed and learned so many things watching your videos this last year. I enjoy your teaching examples and enthusiasm for quilting. Thanks

Yay! So happy you found this tutorial helpful! Scraps do seem to multiple, don't they? ❤️
@@SewtheDistance I know some I think have been donated by sewing friends but the tub was overflowing x
i chuckled when i saw the parking sign; so cute. I am making this block; have so many scraps left from making potholders etc. this past Christmas for gifts ; happy sewing and Happy New Year !
Perfect! So happy you liked this (and the sign). 😀❤️😀
That was awesome! I love scrappy quilting and will definitely be doing this with my scraps. I loved the colors in your last block.
Yay! So glad it has inspired you. That's what it's all about. Thank you so much! ❤️
I think this is the block I will use as my warm up once I get back to sewing! I have a bunch of 2.5” strips left over from some placemats I made a couple years ago. I’ll do half with the center white/cream and rhe other half black/dk grey. Great tutorial! Hope your weekend is fantastic, Kris!
Love the idea of mixing the centers! Glad you loved it! Happy weekend to you, too!
I love the scrappy!
Thank you!
❤❤❤ I love scrappy, and this was entertaining and informative. Thank you!
Yay! So happy to hear this! Thank you!
I love this quilt block and the quilt that inspired it!
Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love this block and you explain things really good, thank you.
You are so welcome! ❤️
I love the block also. It is beautiful in whatever colors you chose. This quilt block is a winner. It would be fun to make in your Teams colors.
Oh, I love that idea! Yes! It would perfect for that.
I cut my own 5 inch squares and assembled them in sets as you demonstrated for the first method. I set them with a deep royal blue in a different way. Was really happy with results and gifted it to our nephew who just graduated from college. He was thrilled! Thanks so much Kris; all of your blocks are lovely. I will definitely be making this quilt as I adore scrappy quilts!
Could you do with 5 inch squares on the outside of center block using in larger inside square, I know it would be double the size, to make less cutting and sewing.
Love this and all of your videos
Awesome technique for square it.
Thank you! 🥰
Thanks Kris❤
My pleasure. 🥰
That is a great idea. I want to make one for my granddaughter and may do something like that. Thanks.
My pleasure!
I love this video, I have so many scraps, I’m going to make these!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yay! So glad you are giving it a try! It is a fun one!
Great video! I would have liked to see a finished scrappy quiltnwith this block too!
Thank you so much! Maybe another time. ❤️ These blocks are probably getting donated.

Yes!!! It is a great one! You are so welcome! Thank you for watching. ❤️
Nice love all the different
ways to make the blocks.
They are so much fun!
Just came across your scrap quilt. I like the way I can use my leftover fabrics and not have to use small 2 or 3 inch fabrics. Starting with a 5 inch is a great idea. I will definitely being saving this for use. Thanks for sharing

Oh, thank you so much! I love this! It’s funny-we are right in the middle of planning a trip and I just said to my husband, “What am I going to do for more than a week without my sewing machine?” I love this idea! Thank you!
