Why didn´t people stop and listen to such wonderful talent instead of rushing off to their next meaningless place. RIP and total Respect to Dave Hum

The world is just too fast paced. I'm sure they would've liked to stop but people are just too busy. I know I wish I could stop and smell the roses, but as a college student, I hardly have enough time to stay sane.

I can so relate to the inspiration...GOLD!!!!!!! a great history in the finding of nuggets that changed the course of life and history for so many...:-) my family, humble farmers, were after a better life than the upper United States brought them, and an easier one...the West offered opportunity beyond gold, they went "off to California", but after the gold rush, in the 1890s.
Glad to hear you always, Dave! thanks for banjo goodness, in my day;-)

Spectacular! A great mix of the original, variations, and tricks, but all blended with wonderful musicianship and entertainment value.

He must've really liked Off to California if he has 3 versions of it. Such a great tune, and he's a great musician

He played this piece with such ease. Sadly missed, hugely honored to hear all of his music during this tragic time the world is having with the Covid-19 virus. I am on lockdown in Windsor, Virginia USA on day 12 (April 5th). Not being able to work & not leave the house. I have brought out my banjos that have been sitting unused in a year or so. I set them up with new strings & have been playing a lot & searching all things banjo on the web. I of course went right to Dave Hum for inspiration. He was an amazing player & missed by so many! We are blessed to have all these videos of him!!! R.I.P. Master Dave 🤘🏻🙏❤🍻

It's unbelievable a banjo pro like Dave hum existed and is so buried and unknown musically. I look at Dave like he mastered and led a style too complicated and broad for all of us to achieve and more than we could expect to enjoy being entertained by. What a great inspiration.

@@gqoniefh amen to that! To this day, I occasionally bring up an old video of his just to get an ear prickle from the sound of him playing. Gives me chills sometimes. I enjoy it so much. And as you stated…A great unknown. No musician friends of mine have ever heard of him. And at the moment anyone says they have not, I really try to turn them on to Dave as if it is a must do item their bucket list. Hahaha. Thank you so much for the reply.

@@mattwilliams361 I really love Reuben and this ua-cam.com/video/M-FFkv9pt8s/v-deo.html one which must've been a song difficult to learn as accurately as played with his difficulty considered. It's not about style at that level. Better explained as flavor and proffessionality.

Yeah ! I don't think most people realise how difficult it is to improvise on a banjo . Mr. Hum is.phenomenal .
The Pikelnys , the Carl Jacksons , the Flecks , the Scruggs , etc. - each is wonderful and I love 'em all .
But Dave ? Ah - there's a special place he occupies in my heart and soul .

First song I ever played on the banjo; except I was just picking the melody note by note. I'd love to come full circle and learn to play it properly.

A rare talent. I am sorry l only found out about this talented man a few days ago.
Has anyone put out a CD of his music?
As a beginning banjo player, he has set a rather high bar for me to aspire to over the next several years.
