I agree with their conclusions. Many people like the Explorer because of the new styling, but honestly, the third row is seriously hard to get into and there isn't much room once you are back there. The Pilot and Traverse, as well as the Acadia and Enclave, are the best in the segment. My father is looking at either an Acadia SLT or a Pilot Touring at the moment. I personally want him to get the Acadia due to the captain-chairs in the second row. It allows for easier access to the rear.
I have a 2012 Pilot (257,000 miles and going strong). It is a super good vehicle. I'm impressed with the fuel economy, especially with the boxy design and how bulky the thing is. I love those traits by the way. To me, it's how an SUV should be. The designers nailed the happy place between efficient utility and rugged design. This generation Pilot is built super well. It feels like a tank but it handles like a car. It's exactly what I want in a family hauler. I still prefer to drive my Jeep most days, but on days when I just want a reliable, comfortable drive you can't beat the Pilot.
i bought the 2013 KIA sorento V6 FWD with the 4.5 inch UVO touchscreen, back up camera, heated seats, 3rd row seats but no leather, navigation or moonroof. i paid $26,690. im very happy with the car, but the reviews are right, its like no room for luggage if the third row is up. but you know what i hardly use it anyway, and it was 66%made in Georgia, USA. No problems so far. i really wanted the chevy traverse, but it was too thirsty and pricey. at the end the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty won
I had a 2010 Chevy Traverse until I got into a bad accident (no fault of my own) and it was totaled. The Traverse was a beast on the highway. With this test, I would have put it behind the Explorer and the CX9 ahead of my Traverse (without being bias)
My picks would be: 1.- Ford Explorer. 2.- Dodge Durango. 3.- Mazda CX-9. 4.- Honda Pilot. Honda Pilot hasn't improved over 2009 model, I've ridden in one of those (a 09 EX-L 4WD) so I can't find a reason why it should rank much higher than an also not highly improved 2011 Toyota Highlander, that ironically was the "benchmark" while the second generation came out in 2008. That doesn't make sense
better looking but the japanese cares are more reliable. i didnt reaaly like the pilot when i tested it and i liked the old styling better. all of them could be good choices
@WhiteIceMan3 I disagree. Hard plastics tend to scratch easier than softer plastics, and if I'm loading kids in and out every day, they won't last long. Give it a few years and they'll look absolutely ghastly.
At 1st the Explorer looked cool and I stepped inside and was wowed by the hitech dash but then I opened the trunk and I was wondering if this is really a full size SUV? I swear my Forester was as big but not as tall. Very disappointed by the 3rd row or trunk space. The Pilot is boring but it is the most versatile and safe. I like the highlander but the interior is really cheap plastic all around. Traverse has the cheapest interior imo. You get what you paid for.
@theonlylolking Also, remember, every family needs are totally different. So, use this Motorweek and Cars.com as more of a guide and not the total solution.

agreed about the Pilot being first. the new refresh was needed and now has it all any car on its class have an more.
Agreed. The Pilot is a very attractive and practical vehicle. Great video!! ^_^

Lol @ 0:52 "Not surprisingly, non of the group came equipped with four, or all wheel drive".
LoL @ the lugnut at 3.03: he likes the "comfortableness" of the Durango. HA HA

Pilot has VTM so it's very similar to four wheel drive. It handles well.
My picks would be:
1.- Ford Explorer.
2.- Dodge Durango.
3.- Mazda CX-9.
4.- Honda Pilot.

i totally agree. the pilot from the outside is just plain dull/ugly! what i hear on the inside and the feel of the engine is awesome. congrats
My favorite one there is the Kia Sorento!

Def buy an explorer..people do not realize how great a suv it is.
I don't know if I will get the new look Traverse, Acadia, or Enclave when they come out. I may possibly get the GMC Terrain.
I wonder if the winning order would be the same if every vehicle in this comparo had its badges removed. Just my 2 cents
i like how Traverse and Durango beat out the Sorento and Highlander...wtf haha
the durango looked the best to me
i swear......if the pilot had at least 280hp, it would be THE perfect SUV, period.

Those are all practically minivans!

xsk
Why only 2000#s of towing w/2wd
There isn't a full frame on the Durango.... It's a Unibody crossover made on the old M Class and current GC platform...
I don't see how the pilot won, when its has less cargo capacity then a highlander/traverse/cx 9.
01:35 I spotted the Hyundai Santa Fe
My ranking is the opposite. 1. Explorer 2. Sorento 3. Highlander
WHERE IS THE PATHFINDER !
the bottom line is that the american cars are
1:19 Sorrento
I think the dodge should have won I liked it the best then the Chevy then the Mazda
I'd take the last true SUV left from the big 3, the Durango.
1. highlander
2. cx-9
3. pilot
4. Durango

@PcandTech its gone. the stop making it.
@jaretkady
You have a deal:)
Why 37K? Seems pretty arbitrary...
@venom5809 lmfao!!!!
The Traverse interior is awful....wow it's cheap and plasticy...
Mazda is the best sorry
The Chevrolet Traverse is the ugliest car on the planet.
@jvrdlc FAKE
No pathfinder👎🏽
Motor Week has such an AWFUL video presentation, it's really tough to watch.
