Legacy console edition actually felt like a proper almost 1:1 console port of Java minecraft with extra bells and whistles, while Bedrock feels like a mobile game. This is why I wish there was a limited world map for bedrock.
Multiplayer in world that small was amazing, even if you and your friends decided to not work together you'd always be at most 5 minutes away and older world like that had signs of life everywhere.
Maybe to accommodate all the content it'd have to be the size of a lv4 map and increase ore generation for long-term purposes.
Obviously the End/Nether get a bit scuffed since there's not much reason to build there when it wasn't uncommon to reset them when it got hard to find resources given how small they were.

The ps4/xbox one editions are the closest to the 360 edition (now they're just called Minecraft legacy), and honestly they are my preferred versions. I love the basic sandbox survival. Build, survive, prosper. Free to build the perfect world. I honestly liked the limited world sizes... Nowadays playing minecraft can feel super overwhelming because there is so much to explore, but with a limited world size you have to mine, build and craft with what the world generated, if it did not have a desert and you wanted a desert temple, tough luck! It was punishing but also rewarding, specially after making tunnels and homes and other structures all around the map, you truly felt like you conquered the world (being able to see everything on the portable map that showed the entire world helped a lot). Also because of the water on all sides of the map, it felt more like alpha and beta minecraft back in the day, like its an island in the middle of the ocean . Again, nowadays it just feels like you are in the middle of an infinite continent most of the time.

I kind of disagree. At least in my opinion. One of the most fun I’ve had playing Minecraft was going to a woodland mansion. It wasn’t exploring the mansion itself. It was the long journey to get to mansion. As well as the long journey back home. Once I’m done with raiding the mansion. I start to feel homesick. I miss my home. I miss hanging out with my pets. And when I come back. Seeing the familiar landscapes. And then finally seeing my home after days of being away. Seeing my dog and two cats, parrot, allay and axolotl again. Was probably the best experience I’ve had playing the game. I just started playing Minecraft a few years ago. So I probably didn’t get to experience what’s it like to be in a limited world.

I’m so glad I’m not alone on the limited world size thing. I loved having a finite amount of resources on one world because everything felt so meaningful. When a world is infinite, nothing feels special because there’s an infinite (not really) amount of it. Finding a mushroom island on legacy console edition is a good example because there would only usually be like one or two per large world, so finding one feels so meaningful since it’s the only one. The biome sizes were also great too and choosing the biome sizes was a highly underrated feature. I would usually do a medium world with medium biome sizes. But omg, my favorite thing of all about limited worlds was that you could have an entire map of your world! That’s the most dope thing of all time and I would always do those in my worlds. Even on large worlds despite it being really tedious.

Plus having everything you need in one area was nice. I remember back in 2012 on Xbox 360 Edition I was trying to fill the entire map with a unique huge city, and this is what I did, it was something cool to have a limited map, you had better objectives and when you had visited the entire map you had the feeling of having accomplished something big and something finished ! When I moved to Minecraft PC (Java) in 2014-2015 it was different, not the same feeling, and since worlds were infinite I was always moving to a new world when I had constructed my house and killed the ender dragon, also the amount of new contents on PC was so huge that it was quickly boring in some way, because you always had something to do, you could not make a Minecraft World and say: "I finished the game !", it was nearly impossible. Minecraft Xbox 360 had a sort of a real ending and satisfaction after "colonising" your entire world.

@@SpinAttackLink I understand that. No reason Nintendo/Sora couldn't have negotiated a better deal.
The only reason Microsoft wanted full rights is because that's industry standard. The only reason Notch allowed the more lax deal to go through was because his game hadn't even reached a phase where he was charging for it yet.
It sucks, and I agree it shouldn't be the industry standard, but music for games is often done as contracted work. Just look at the DOOM Eternal soundtrack debacle, Id treated him HORRIBLY after he signed on the contract. But a lot of game companies are not willing to give an inch simply because they haven't had to before. This whole situation really sucks because fans really had a chance to campaign against MS for shafting Minecraft's one true composer, but instead they all lapped up Lena Raine instead. No disrespect to Raine, she's an excellent composer and absolutely nailed Minecraft's style, but it sucks nobody got up in arms after MS and C418 had their falling out.
Back to Nintendo and Super Smash Bros, I think what ended up happening is Nintendo asked for the rights to use the music, but MS said C418 owned it, and Nintendo didn't want to go through the hassle of negotiating with an outside party (after already going through MS and Mojang) and made up the excuse that C418's music "didn't fit in a Fighting game"
Oddly enough, they were willing to work with 4J for the Legacy Console music. Either that or MS owned some kind of rights to it already.

I think my favorite thing about the legacy console editions thinking back was how well optimized they were. In modern Minecraft java edition, no matter how good your computer is, you always seem to run into frame-rate problems in vanilla Minecraft, and it can be quite annoying sometimes. I don't think I ever had any problems with my frame-rate on the 360. Modern Java edition on the other hand runs like crap sometimes, especially if I play without any optimization mods, it takes upwards of a minute for my frame-rate to reach a stable 60, and it's gotten worse since the 1.18 update whenever I visit updated chunks in my world. Usually this isn't an issue for me because I play with Optifine installed, but I'd be willing to argue that the existence of optimization mods proves Mojang could optimize Minecraft better, any change that can be modded into a game can be just as easily added on the developers side. I know limited worlds accounts for some of the difference, but Mojang definitely could (and should imo) invest some time into improving Minecraft's performance. I want to clarify that my PC is farily decent, and I don't run into performance issues in many games that I play, Minecraft is one of the few exceptions. tbh the fact I can run games 5x as graphically intense as Minecraft at a more stable frame-rate is kind of hilarious.

My sister always got the biggest screen because she’s the oldest of us, we’d play the mini games all the time and me and my brother would play the mashup worlds that I didn’t even know were based off of anything because our family is super religious and controlling, we were barely ever allowed to play because of that but we still did, I remember playing on the Halloween mashup pack when my parents weren’t home and feeling so sneaky. I’m not friends with the people I played with anymore, but I’ll never forget the times that I spent with them. Wether it was doing terrible roleplaying on creative, or beating the ended dragon in survival, I had so much fun. I remember when we were trying to get “The Lie” achievement, I had to look for sugar cane because there was none nearby. It became night and I just couldn’t find any, until finally I got to the edge of the world I found tons, and was so happy that I ran back and almost died, and then we all got the achievement. I remember the original crafting menu for xbox 360 being really nice and simple to use (but that may have just been that there weren't very many blocks in that day). Almost wish they could bring that back in some way.

I used to play battle and change the settings to make it last as long as possible and then drop 70 kill games haha. The mob heads, discs, and all the secrets were the best. And the out of bounds glitch with the Elytra, damn good times. Kicking anyone who joined because I want to get the secrets instead of playing. I once played for 14 hours STRAIGHT at the age of 11 of something

Another really cool thing is the uniqueness in the skins, the birthday pack upside down skins, the tiny stars skins, so much variety that doesn’t look stupid or unnecessary like bedrock does

Great video, I think the best memory I ever had was when I got the physical disc, I was so enchanted over the cover and kept reading the back cover just excited to play Minecraft for the first time and be like Stampy or DanTDM and play what they played.

With that being said, this is a fantastic video. You put a ton of effort into this. It deserves more views. ^^

And being extremely hyped for the 1.8.2 Update.
Still remember how random the Update that included potions, and Enchanting was, Remember no news about it and it just coming out in December 2012.
Still I made a creative world in December 2012 and I still play on it to this day :')

I remember fondy of when i first played Minecraft on my PS4. I started in 2014-2015 ish. I was playing the game, spawned in the tutorial world, dug straight down, found a cave filled with red mushrooms, and fell into lava. I also remember the music playing when I started playing it. The song playing when I first started playing that tutorial world was called "Dreiton" by C418, the most nostalgic song ever.

My brother always said he didn't understand why I loved Legacy Edition so much if I had always played Java the most. This video explains it perfectly.
The first veraion I played was the PS3 Edition at a far-related cousin, and I was amazed. I had never played Minecraft myself, but I had watched gameplays.
After some years, I finally was able to purchase Minecraft on my Nintendo switch, and I remember all the ama,ing memories I made with it, from my first complete gigantic house, to spending lots of hours racing my ghosts, I even made a friend who I communicated with through the use of signs.
There will never ever be an experience like Legacy, and I'm sad it's now but a memorial of past times...
This video was great, and I'm sorry if my English is a bit broken, I'm just really hit.

One thing not mentioned about the skin system is how they could have unique shapes, sizes, and capes on them. A baby ghast would be over a block off the ground while the ender dragon man had a wing cape.
To this day I still use the hot goblin skin from the limited release Summer of Arcade skin pack, but on Java Edition and personally updated to utilize the clothing layer. It's the one I became known for and will keep using.
The 360 edition is where I got started, where I started making adventure maps, and where a lot of good times were had. The custom music for even the "generic" mash-up packs are amazing and those worlds shouldn't be glossed over because they aren't as special-sounding as Skyrim or Adventure Time--they are still massive and beautifully made.
And I really liked the limited world sizes (especially when someone knew how to mod the game to get every item). Due to it being only ~900x900 (I think), it made online worlds very connected where you could find rail systems and waterways to everyone's places. Heck, even the Nether and End were getting towns in one server I was a part of!

I remember making custom TNT flat worlds in this, and the best thing was the TNT explosions didn't even hurt the performance, 60fps and no dips. Also one of the things I loved in it was the very fast startup speeds which was like 5 seconds if I remember correctly on a PS4, much much better than Bedrock on the same console (Bedrock takes like 5 minutes on the PS4 and runs badly on the system)

  • @theczhekism

main thing I love about console edition is the optimization, they really squeezed out as much as possible out of those consoles, and did it with 8 chunk render distance, fps that was actually stable, and visuals that even surpass modern versions (in my opinion) on vanilla 1.20 I can barely go a few seconds without suffering constant microstutters, fps that varies extremely, even with multiple graphical settings turned down to low or off, and at 6 chunk render distance, and I'm sure I could go and buy a 4090 machine and still get noticeable frame drops even on something like vanilla bedrock because of how god awful the optimization is
