Trying to fill Jerry Orbach's shoes was probably something that could never realistically be done; the original L & O would only last 6 more seasons after his departure. But I do think that Dennis Farina did an admirable job as the senior detective given the circumstances. And it was an interesting idea hiring an actor who was actually a police detective in real life.
So for anyonw who wants spoilers for the episode: here's what happened: Spoilers It turns out that the murder victim was involved with torturing people at Abu Grahib in Iraq, one of whom (who was released and later died) had a sister living in NYC who killed her out of a desire to avenge her brother for the torture he endured at her hands.
I remember the first time this episode of season 15 aired. I was reluctant to watch it since Jerry Orbach left after the last episode of season 14 & this was the first to feature Dennis Farina, but knowing Farina was a real former cop & played many cop characters, I decided to give him a chance
I liked Fontana after awhile but Briscoe was the best and it wouldn’t matter who followed him they would always be compared and come up short. I always enjoyed L and O after but it was never quite the same or as good. RIP Mr. Orbach.
The first episode debuts Detective Fontana played by Dennis Farina. 😃 Though, the reason Detective Briscoe isn't here, actor Jerry Orbach passed away during this season. Rest in Peace to him.😞🙏
Actually, Jerry did not pass away until after he had moved onto "Trial By Jury". The reason was Orbach (and Lennie) would be pushing 70 and the NYPD has a mandatory retirement policy, but the DA's investigator office does not.
The army guy they talk to might look familiar. It's Robert John Burke he plays the IAB captain tucker later in SVU and he's known for plenty of other small roles usually having it centered around NYC
He was also in the HBO series "From the Earth to the Moon" as astronaut Bill Anders, who was one of the crew of Apollo 8, the first spacecraft to fly around the moon.
While this episode was not based on an actual murder, it was inspired by the Abu Ghraib torture scandal in the Middle East, you'd probably remember the pictures of the US soldiers forcing the enemy to pose naked in piles, especially the blond female soldier with her foot on a bunch of them smiling for the camera.
it was .... vigilante justice... sigh.. Spoilers It turns out that the murder victim was involved with torturing people at Abu Grahib in Iraq, one of whom (who was released and later died) had a sister living in NYC who killed her out of a desire to avenge her brother for the torture he endured at her hands.
Actually while he was in IA. His first appearance as Tucker goes as far back as season 3 in 2002. But before he joined AI and the military he was an FBI agent. He was also Robocop that one time everyone forgets. Funny, Clare Kincaid was also in Robocop 3 xD
I just realize something when they have like a fresh dead body flesh and bones and everything all as it should be do they do an x-ray in case they need to check for anything inside the body that would help identify Hidden evidence, clues, or just straight up (What the living hell is this?) items, or messages or gps tag!

Oh, here is an episode I absolutely hate. I remember when it premiered. First, no one could fill Jerry Orbach's shoes so they didn't try...in the worst way. There was nothing Fontana could do to make the fanbase like him, and so he supported the Iraq War, Waterboarded a suspect, and cheered on torture. And second, it seemed that after Bush was reelected, NBC felt the need to do a half fascistic victory lap. All their programming got either more conservative generally or just more racist. This episode was the first of that fun trend.
hilarious that your woke beliefs are why people are not watching tv and why cnn has lost 70% of its audience and is losing more and more. you are the fascist. fascism is a left belief system as is nazism and every system that has done the majority of atrocities these past several centuries and killed far more then the crusades, any Christian sect has.
Wow thanks, that actually explains a lot. I'm 18 and german so i never watched the episodes when they first came out and i don't really know the American political history that played into the show. I did notice there was a wierd difference between episodes, many are very liberal and progressive (or what i assumed was progressive for the time, like being ok with abortion, homosexuality, women working in high positions, immigrants etc.) and then some episodes seemed quite racist and conservative to me. Especially when they were dealing with the wars, terrorism or muslims. I assumed it was just wierd american patriotism and/or the impact of 9/11. I never liked Fontana either lol
They did have some really good episodes in there though, such as season 16, "Ghosts". I think they were most effective when they weren't trying to awkwardly tackle big picture issues that were outside the scope of what a homicide cop would handle, like the Iraq War. Having smaller and more human scale challenges and conflicts makes it a lot easier for the writers and the viewers to wrap their arms around it without feeling like the story was being rushed or mis handled.
They made her look like a medieval crusader (white tabard with red cross). She apparently worked at Abu Ghraib during the torture scandal. One of the victims had a relative in the city. The relative killed her for revenge.
They weren't coworkers. The office space they were in was vacant, since the company had gone bankrupt. They were just looking for a empty space to do their thing and had nothing to do with the victim.
