    Thanks to you, I will never hear the name "Fujiwara" without thinking "who famously married their daughters into the Imperial family, which gave them power over the court for 200 years". Kind of like how certain phrases trigger my stock of Monty Python lines.

    As the Heian Era came closer to its middle period, Kenjaku asked Sukuna; “Who would win? You or the JuJutsu Sorcerers?” Sukuna replied; “Well, if I didn’t have supreme power I would have a hard time.” Kenjaku replied; “But would you win?” Sukuna said; “Nah. I’d win.” As Kenjaku smiled and used his domain expansion, Sukuna used his domain amplification and survived the attack. Kenjaku was confused and said “What happened?”. Sukuna said; “Stand proud, you are strong. But you missed two key things; Always count on me on defeating JuJutsu sorcerers and second..” Sukuna said dramatically. “Throughout the Heian Era and the Middle Ages… I alone am the king of curses.”

    I love the Heian Period. So much culture! I love the poetry from this period. I'm also fascinated by the roles women played in court. They didn't have control over their own lives, but they did have a kind of power. They had a kind of voice. Thanks for sharing!

    Its interesting, in popular culture it's taken as a given that the imperial family wielded absolute power before the shogunate, but you've shown that it's more a evolution of the previous control exerted over the imperial family by various noble families since it's inception.

    • @Linfamy
      @Linfamy  5 років тому +1

      I don't think the emperor ever wielded "absolute" power, the court was mostly dominated by various powerful clans. But there were times like at the beginning of the Heian Period where the emperor was the dominant force.

      Emperors were having like 30-40 children back then, and the state was going bankrupt having to support so many people. So, many ofthese people were demoted from royalty to lower nobility, and had to go out out into the the world and make their own living. Many of them were given land in the countryside and created their militias with the locals for self-defense, which is basically the origin of the samurai.

      As for Japanese history resources... I list the books/resources I use in the description of the videos. If you want something freely available online, Wikipedia's pretty good. So is this site: factsanddetails.com/japan/
