Mmmmmm slow roasted! Great idea, thank you. I was raised on beets and always had a beet garden then went keto and was sad they weren't allowed. SO HAPPY for this video because my blood NEEDS beets and I've really missed eating them.
Beets are so easy to cook in a slow cook pot, quick wash under the tap in case muddy, leaves are edible put in pot ,cover with water, no constant watching no steam, when the skin is easy to remove they are cooked, then skin slides off easily leave to cool in pot or put on a dish.
My first experiments with Keto and Intermittent Fasting were triggered by a video that Dr. Berg did on inflammation. It started me on a path to losing 50 pounds, which was just a side effect. The real victories were regular bowel movements, loss of joint pain, sleeping through the night, and becoming hopful that I may grow old gracefully. Thank you Dr. Berg.
Thanks a lot Dr Berg! Watching your videos almost every day and I recently started trying the beets. 😊👌🏻 have eaten them for about 2wks now every other day or so and energy is up significantly!
Beets are a year round root veg in the UK. I regularly make beetroot chips in the oven. I toss them in some avocado oil with sea salt, garlic powder, oregano and sometimes chilli powder. 180 degrees for around 25 minutes. 👌. I also do the same with butternut squash and celeriac which taste even better!
Beets are great when lacto-fermented. The root gets a nice tangy flavour and the leftover brine is known as kvass and is a great probiotic drink on its own. You can make several batches of kvass from the same roots.
If you bought it off Amazon it was most likely boiled and the bacteria are dead. It isn't probiotic anymore. Make your own. It really takes no skill at all. Drink as much as you like, just remember that such a live product will most likely cause some serious bowel movements if your body isn't accustomed to it :) Kvass can be made from many different things, the most popular is leftover bread. I happily drink the brine from any fermented veggies I make, I even deliberately use less salt to make it tastier.
Hi @@szkoclaw, Please can you share your recipe that you use to make the brine? I'm gonna make my own kvass. Never heard of it. But will Google. It sounds great. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Blessings!
I LOVE pickled beets, especially with sliced onions- I wonder if that’s related to the vinegar used to pickle..? I also love apple cider vinegar. Is it true that our bodies crave what we need?
Hi Dr Berg, As you requested I share my story. Because of your videos I started if without keto. First results started to come, like getting rid of heartburn and problems with my stomach( I was never after the weight loss results because I was 1,93m and 90 kilo’s) but I realised I had a bigger problem. I had slowly been getting insulin resistant, which I noticed now because after the meals I had which were bigger in size I started getting really tired and thirsty. So I stopped eating lots of carbs. More health benefit results started: I lost 10 kilo’s which I never realised I had on. I like my body much more now, some people think I’m too thin but I don’t feel that way. I also got rid of lower back pain, had fewer heart palpitations, I felt more positive, less or no pain in the joints. I was 37 years old and felt bad about myself and my health, I am now 39 and feeling a lot better. My problem wasn’t really visible because I wasn’t overweight but I was someone that had lots of exercise. And when my sports came to a hold because of corona my old habit of eating lots of carbs stayed I started to have problems. I think I am one of fewer examples of someone not really overweight but I had messed up my body with too much carbs in all these years.
Dr. Berg I just discovered you about 2 months ago when I began my health journey to take back my life and you are very educational and I appreciate it! I'm a nurse and I have raised all my children, including my husband and have grandchildren and one day just woke up and said what about me! I appreciate you and I am benefiting from your knowledge and for that I am eternally grateful! God bless and keep you!🙏😁
I've been making pickled beetroot for many years. I boil the beets, in their skin, for about two hours. After cooking, the skin slides off under running water and it's quite theraputic too! They have to be soft as far as I'm concerned as the texture is great that way. I then bottle with sliced onion and I tell you what, they are very yummy! Your videos are very motivational btw! I have stayed on track for about three weeks and am now doing two meals a day band fasting for 19hrs. I am hoping to get to one meal a day asap but will know when it's time. I have cut out all refined carbs i.e. pasta, potatoes, rice, bread and anything with flour. My inflammation is almost a thing of the past and my energy levels have escalated. I am exercising more frequently and have ditched metforming and levothyroxin... not that my MD knows as they are too busy to fit me in with COVID still taking precedence. I am a diagnosed Type II Diabetic Thanks for you videos Doc. You've certainly helped me!
Joyce Price That's really great news, and very encouraging for the rest of us. I haven't been anywhere near a doctor for many years, and have much improved health from watching and taking on board various suggestions by Dr Berg and others. I, like many people, have the potential for T2D, but as I won't go near disease managers, I have never been tested. I have worked constantly over the last 3-4 years to reduce my insulin resistance. This is a must, especially as we age. May I ask, at what point did you decide to ditch your two drugs?
Bought me some beets. I always like beets pickled, in salads and in the fields hunting for upland birds because the provide great cover. Beet greens are also edible both raw in salads or steamed. Thank you for all the informative videos you provide to all of us.
I juice them with other veggies mostly cucumbers and lots of celery I just was always taught not to mix fruits and veggies when juicing but if it works for you then perhaps I will give it a try
@@amnahaque9058 1 beet and as much celery and cucumber as you want...beets are pretty powerful as they turn everything red...I juiced 32 oz this morning no beets but a good handful of spinach as well
Thank you for this! I never knew I liked beets until I grew up, and bought them for myself. My mom hates them. But, if I don't peel them, they have much less effect on my blood glucose level. Also, they don't stain everything. I add caraway, orange peel and a sprinkle of good salt, but the best ones are the smallest ones. Their greens are delicious, too.
@@Diogenes-II It's all about balance in the end and asparagus is seasonal which means it isn't always available. Also the asparagus pee smell is gross! 🤣

Hi Dr Berg, I love your channel your presentation. For sure Im eating beatroot tomorrow......Do you ever have a day when you just want to eat a lot of good tasting "bad foods" ?
I eat beets occasionally but I've been taking quality organic beet supplements for years. It helped me with gall bladder and liver issues while I was still eating SAD.
@@vsansanv29101_sd the gallbladder had poor throughput giving me classic upper right back pain but the root cause is liver function. The beet supplements helped within a month or two. Same with stopping the supplements; it took a month or so for the back pain to return.
I believe I went on a diet of nothing but beets about a month , yes I was peeing pink and pooping red , but never in my life hv I felt so good , It has been popping up in my thoughts lately , the way I do them is buy frozen and put them in a blender with a little distilled water , what ever reason I can't stand them cooked , Thanks for jogging my mind , heading to the store now ,
I would also like to thank Dr. Berg again for all his educational information. I am three months into keto after having a high blood sugar reading and be put on metformin prematurely (after one fasting reading of about 129). My blood sugar started trending downward after one week. I quickly got onto 18/6, frequently OMAD simply due to lack of hunger or schedule. In the past week or so I have been having daytime readings in the 4.3 - 5.0 range, including after eating, and fasting readings in the 5.3-5.5 range. The last is great as dawn phenomenon had been keeping my morning fasting readings in the 6-6.5 range until recently. The growing list of related complaints and ailments that have eased or disappeared now includes snoring and sleep apnea. Family members recently told me those have disappeared. Finally, as we are traveling, I suspect that healthy keto and IM help with jet lag. We are 7 hours away from home and I adjusted much easier than usual. Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks again Dr. Berg.

Dr Berg what are the side effects of eating raw rice. ...I eat it 8 or 9 times a month and only in small quantities. ..pls lemme know of the side effects as well and what I'm going through pls
Thanks again Dr Berg. Much appreciated. Been following your ideas since beginning of this year now. Total transformation of my health. What about eating grated raw beets , in a salad. Would that be ok?
Dr, I have to report something about beet juice. I have been hearing so much about beet juice that it will increate nitrogen oxide in your body which will result in better blood flow, higher oxygen levels and control your BP. So I bought beets from the market, cut them up, boiled them in distilled water and made juice including the distilled water that I used. I started drinking that juice every morning after completing my yoga exercises. What I found was, my sugar and A1C went off the roof. My A1C which used to stay in lower 6 range went to well over 7. When my my PCP saw the blood test results, he recommended to stop drinking beet juice. So the question is, do you think juice caused this due to high sugar contents in beets or did I do something wrong? Please advise
You removed all the fiber. Eat them grated raw or lightly steamed (or even roasted) as Dr. Berg mentions in the video. When you juice you concentrate the sugars by removing all of the fiber. Also, a little goes a long way. Try incorporating it a few times a week rather than every day. More is not always more. ;0)
Hi Dr. Berg: Since finding your videos my health transformation has been amazing. I can only speak for myself by saying you’ve built a treasure trove of information. My health has benefited from intermittent fasting. My blood pressure is now in the normal range and I finally have a waistline again. I’ve regained the ability to sleep deeply again. There are so many other benefits I’ve personally enjoyed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m personally grateful.

I've been doing the Liver Body Type program for over three months, using your products, and although I've seen a worsening of my symptoms, I feel that my liver is going through a long-term healing process. At 77 I have suffered my whole life from a whole range of symptoms that no one ever realized was the result of a non-alcoholic fatty liver. Now that I know what is causing these symptoms I am able to deal with them and begin to see improvements. When I first read the list of symptoms in your book on the Body Types, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I had almost every one listed there! Now I am happy to say that things are beginning to get better for me. Thanks so much, Dr. Berg!
The question is how many or what quantity should ee be consuming on a daily basis to obtain any benefit ?
I love pickled beets, and go through a jar every week.
can you recommend a brand, type or any info so I can find some to try? Thanks
@@nancya8262 I only buy mine at Sam's club. Paisley Farms sweet pickled beets are my favorite. Be sure to read the label if you get another brand: beets, cane sugar, and vinegar.

Love pickled beets. My mother also made beet soup (borscht).
all im thinking is how happy and a content human being should be Dr Berg , by reading all these gratitude comments he gets every day.

This was great info !
My doctor would have prescribed at least five drugs to deal with the health issues you mentioned, like hypertension. I love beets and now I know how much beets love us. Thank you and my doctor can go push drugs somewhere else. 😏
Hello Dr Berg greetings from India,
Can u please make a video on DHEA supplement.
Thanks
Thank you. I usually juice my beets or eat them raw. I will try steaming them
I do too. I'll just do both raw & steamed. Gonna look into this a bit more.
@Taiwo Omotosho Thank you. I never added cilantro to my juices. I will add this to my list to try.
Do you steam them whole or do you slice them and then steam them otherwise would 15 minutes be long enough steaming a whole beet
Lost my excess weight, so roots are back on the menu? Slow roasted in their own skins or steamed. Cheers Doctor.👍
Mmmmmm slow roasted! Great idea, thank you. I was raised on beets and always had a beet garden then went keto and was sad they weren't allowed. SO HAPPY for this video because my blood NEEDS beets and I've really missed eating them.
Why not just juice them in their raw state that way you're getting 100 % of their nutrients?
Beets are so easy to cook in a slow cook pot, quick wash under the tap in case muddy, leaves are edible put in pot ,cover with water, no constant watching no steam, when the skin is easy to remove they are cooked, then skin slides off easily leave to cool in pot or put on a dish.
@@joyfuljoyful6598 as the Dr mentioned, with juicing , you won't get the beneficial fibre.
@@joyfuljoyful6598 Because juicing removes the fiber, thereby greatly increasing the glycemic load.
Berg.
Unfortunately, beets are high in oxalates, so I've had to eliminate them from my food choices.
But it says beetjuice causes kidney stones 😥
Great....great my doctor always on point and precise. Happy Father's Day Dr Berg....God bless you and thank you. Have a great day❤💙💚💛💝💞💟❤💙💚💝💞💟
My mother, who turned 85 today, was asking me about beets this morning. Great timing!
I’ve been eating raw beets for years. Tasty, sweet & make me feel great
Always have loved beets..especially the ones my nanny pickles from the garden..so yummy
Beets are great when lacto-fermented. The root gets a nice tangy flavour and the leftover brine is known as kvass and is a great probiotic drink on its own. You can make several batches of kvass from the same roots.
I heard about kvass but didn't know it was the brine from fermented beets. Now I want to try plant some beets and make kvass for myself :)
I just bought some beet kvass on Amazon ! how much should we drink each day ?
If you bought it off Amazon it was most likely boiled and the bacteria are dead. It isn't probiotic anymore.
Make your own. It really takes no skill at all. Drink as much as you like, just remember that such a live product will most likely cause some serious bowel movements if your body isn't accustomed to it :)
Kvass can be made from many different things, the most popular is leftover bread. I happily drink the brine from any fermented veggies I make, I even deliberately use less salt to make it tastier.
How do you make the kvass?
Hi @@szkoclaw,
Please can you share your recipe that you use to make the brine?
I'm gonna make my own kvass. Never heard of it. But will Google. It sounds great. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Im just starting a keto diet and im a carb addict! Wish me luck 👍🏻🙂
That was me six weeks ago. Kicked the carbs completely now and looking better than I have in a long time.

Just started this year with beets. With your help Doc, now I feel even better with the additional and beneficial informtion.
I LOVE pickled beets, especially with sliced onions- I wonder if that’s related to the vinegar used to pickle..?
I also love apple cider vinegar.
Is it true that our bodies crave what we need?
Hi Dr Berg,
As you requested I share my story.
Thanks for the info I learn something very important in my life 7 year been diabetic good bless you doctor😁!
Hmm I always thought beet greens were the healthier way for liver health on keto because of lower sugar? They make tastier chips than kale too.
I am a diagnosed Type II Diabetic
Thanks for you videos Doc.

What about BEETROOT supplements that are Organic, IS that okay DR! I have been watching you for over 5 years!
I forgot the beets. From now on they'll always be in my shopping basket.
Me too...

Berg.

Hi... How much should we consume beets for an average adult? Daily basis? Thank you.
Probably not a ton due to the starch. Beets aren't (imo) an everyday staple food, yet beets do hold much value in a lesser role in one's diet.
I would aim for 2-3 times a week. And when you are ready you can supplement it by the various powdered drink forms you can find on Amazon. I just bought some and will give it a try.

I'd like to know this as well.
I lost over 98 pounds by taking in beets! It’s sooo good for you
Dr, I have to report something about beet juice.
More is not always more. ;0)
@@WH2012 Thank You. I have stopped taking beet juice all together to avoid sugar surge that I was experiencing by juicing beets.
