  • In this project you'll learn how to make a super secret safe that nobody will recognize, even if they're looking straight at it.
Some quick links to a few of the materials I used:
    [✓] Electrical Gang Box: amzn.to/2c7MrMC
    [✓] Blank Wall Plate: amzn.to/2c7NTyE

    Project Inspired By:
A picture "The Hidden Wall Safe Socket" walyou.com/hidden-wall-safe-so...
    Project History & More Info:
I saw a picture of the hidden wall safe on www.lifehacker.com and found it was a product being sold for about $8.00 from ThinkGeek.com (www.thinkgeek.com/product/855d....
Rather than order one, it seemed feasible to make one with just a couple of materials from the hardware store. Not to mention, much cheaper.
There are so many variations that could be made to this idea. I demonstrated 4 that I came up with, and perhaps the best one was the fact that you could just use the box behind your cable. If you use one of those, it's completely free, and you don't have to cut any new holes in your walls.
I put some time into making a parts list for the different variations from Home Depot showing store SKU# and prices. Just for being a fan, you can download the list for free at www.dropbox.com/sh/bj4xfnwu5h...
This is an awesome and practical idea. Even if everyone knew about the secret wall safe, there are so many electrical outlets in the house already it would be completely impractical for a thief to open every one trying to find anything valuable. Not to mention dangerous.
Like any security measure, this idea won't be infallible, but simply is one more idea, and one more line of defense to help protect your stuff.
Once again, special thanks to audible.com for supporting these projects, and making it possible to give you a free audiobook!

I did this and when the burglars came for my stamps they couldn't find them. They got violent so I opened it up and got my 3 bullets out. BANG BANG BANG. I don't have a gun so it was just me throwing the bullets at them and yelling bang.

+Radioactiv Pi Paper walls? I think that's in Japan. Here in Canada and I'm pretty certain also in the United States we cover our walls with something called dry wall it's semi rigid but quite easy to cut through.

Almost all places use it, called drywall or sheetrock, since plaster & lath construction basically went extinct over 70 years ago. It's damned hard to even find someone who can do plaster, or repair it. 30 years ago I found one guy to repair some large holes in plaster walls of a building I bought, and he charged almost a hundred bucks an hour. So I bought a book and learned how to do it instead. Any brain-dead moron can hang & finish drywall, but doing plaster is a real art form -- now pretty much a lost art.

To all the idiots who watch this film and say that burglars are going to find your stash, I ask you this question. Do you really think a burglar is going to bring his tool kit with and screwdriver to open up wall sockets to see what is behind them? I was a cop in a former life and the burglar wants to get in and out as quickly as possible. They are going to steal easily seen things like (TV's, computers, phones, jewelry, cash, or other valuables). They are not going to take apart your outlets to look behind them. If they do they run the risk of getting caught. A better plan of action would be to buy a safe and put random heavy crap in it like lead weights or other stuff. They aren't going to have the time to break open the safe in your pad and will end up taking it with them to crack it open and be hoodwinked. Now you have some angry burglars who might seek revenge, but you didn't lose anything. In the meantime you could make sure you install security cameras, better locks, a security system and buy some weapons for when they come back to seek revenge.

There are a lot of outdated buildings in Europe that still have plaster or other inferior materials. Most houses in the US are newer or have been remodeled with drywall. European people think that 50 coats of paint is fine.

    • @StefanoBorini
      @StefanoBorini 7 років тому +9

As a European, drywall feels cheap, unreliable, prone to accidental breakage, and sold as the "status quo" while it's actually a way for building contractors to make a huge markup on a cheap constructor material. Give me bricks or GTFO.

Great idea! You can also hot glue some child-outlet-protectors (with the prongs cut off) onto a blank cover. It looks like a regular cover that is just child-proofed. I also recommend a steel plate cover (painted to match) for durability.

a really good one is an old heating vent
Step one: take off vent cover.
Step two: cut out a piece of cardboard or plastic (your choice what material) the diameter of the vent.
Step three: hot glue(if you have to you can use duck-tape but secure it well) the cardboard in place however deep you want the containment area to be.
Step four: fill with valuables and return vent cover.
i like this one cause in most cases you can just slip whatever your putting into the hidden area through the slot in the vent and never have to open it
this makes it way more discrete to load or hide something in a hurry

Which is why American homes are built smarter... European architecture is pretty counterproductive when it comes to the futuristic stuff we have now. You need wall outlets and to hang stuff on walls. Concrete walls is just stupid. We have our support inside the walls and then covered with sheetrock/drywall so we can easily paint, repair, or alter our walls while keeping the same structural integrity.

Look at it this way, the fire safe takes time to locate and time to pick it up and run out of the house. The possible thief instead now has to look for your outlets, unscrew them and hope they find something that is worth something. Not to mention there are tons of outlets in every house. So as to safe, its better than most options under 5 bucks.
