Great real usage review! I feel the ad manager is there because they weren’t going to make a custom menu for a car. I’m sure this gets all the standard menus and options from all android devices. Maybe it applies to the UA-cam app 🤷
Thank you! Applying to the UA-cam app would make sense.. I haven't found ads in any of the Volvos I've reviewed so far which is definitely a good sign!
Great review! I do have a question, when sitting in these cars it seems to me that the font looks weird, I guess the write term is pixelated, or have weird antialiasing applied. E.g some letter lines look 1 pixel wide and some look 2 pixels wide. Have you noticed this? Do you know whether its fixable?
Thanks! I never noticed a pixelated look when I was in either the C40 or XC40.. I'm in another Volvo in the next few weeks and I'll keep an eye out to see if I can replicate it. Any chance you could send a video or pic of what you're seeing?
I havee my22 and I am not sure how you are doing this, but mine would include a bunch of lag and perhaps a crash or two. I am surprised how good your interface is working as mine is horrible. Volvo just added android auto in the latest update which let's me run much faster as the processing is offloaded to the phone
2022 was the first model year so it makes sense why it's a bit buggy/laggy. Sucks that yours isn't that great though.. Even with the update are you finding that it's still slow? Have you tried a soft screen reboot?
Thanks a lot for sharing with a clear explanations! Do you know how we can play music from another sources rather than apple carplay? As USB or alternative device? Sincerely is to use the full potential of the music system (harman kardon) when normally the quality of the music in lower in stream... Appreciated!
You're welcome! There is a short section in this video on FM and SiriusXM but you can also try downloading Open Radio and Audio Wagon to get more functionality. I have a video on that coming out soon!=
Just want to confirm: if you don't pay for the cellular service, you can wirelessly pair your phone over bluetooth, & share your phone's internet connection to use the built-in Google maps app? I'd rather do that than have to plug in the phone & use carplay to gain access to Google maps.
Very good info video and clear description. Thanks. Some doubt regards 1, Active data connection how we get? We can get from our own sim card or need to subscribe (purchase) from Volve? 2, Phone android auto cant work so any other option to view to android phone (mirror link or any other app)?
You're welcome! If you're tethering data from your phone you'll need an active sim card but Volvo cars have 4 years of connected services included There's no way to mirror an Android phone so you'd have to connect an Android over bluetooth for phone calls, texts and audio and then download the other apps you want to use through the screen
Not at all.. You can use it without setting up a Profile, it's just the profile will ensure all your settings are saved. You do need to login to a Google account though if you want different apps from the play store
If another family member uses the car and enters using his/her other car key, does the system log into that person's Google account automatically? Assuming it has been signed in before with that car key. Thanks
If you've set the keys up to link to your profiles it would, otherwise it'll just launch into the info for whoever was last in the vehicle. To link a fob, press the gear icon --> Profiles --> Connect key to Profile
_Climate Package (USA optional, _*_standard_*_ in Canada)_ *GOT ME LAUGHING* as a Greek probably its way too cold there, I mean in Canada 🤣 near the pole ❄☃ *HOW* you can play mp3 from a usb or maybe transfer music WITHOUT any internet connection, profile or extra app installation? THE OLD FASHIONED WAY?
It is pretty funny how they have all the climate features standard up here, gets cold for sure near Toronto but not as bad as Winnipeg at -40°C You have to download an app to do it.. so connect to Wifi at home. But this video talks you through it: ua-cam.com/video/hmHlFTDfwE8/v-deo.html
Where do they state that Android Auto is there? I've seen some marketing materials saying the screen features Android Automotive OS but that's the operating system of the screen and not the phone app...
This volvo infotainment is soooooo poor with android, it really sucks. Cheaper Fiat 500 has beaten it easily - I connected my old Huawei P30 Pro to it with a cable and was surprised - the maps, tidal, everything was there on the Fiat's screen. With Volvo it just isn't there with the Samsung S24 Ultra, but works with an iPhone. WTF Volvo?
I'm not sure why Volvo didn't choose to pay the licensing fee for Android Auto but that's the reason why it's not coming up. I point that out in all of my Volvo review videos hoping they finally get the hint lol
I was looking for such a comprehensive description, thanks so much 😊
You're welcome!
Best tutorial on the web for this car. Very good, Steve and very much appreciated.
Thanks Chris!
Useful tutorial, going to add it in favorites! Cheers!
Glad it helped!
Very informative! Thanks!

I installed Audio Wagon (third party app) and play my USB C.

That's right! You'd still be running off your phone's data so you might have to be plugged in anyways for the battery
Is setting up a profile mandatory to use the infotainment system and can I get by without downloading the car app? Thank you.
Not at all! You can still use the system without a profile but you'll need to sign into a Google account to download apps from the Play Store
Great video would like to see a video on the cluster
Thanks! This one will be for the C40/XC40 regular gas versions: ua-cam.com/video/dV09VyFCuPc/v-deo.html
Thanks I have learned a few things.
You're welcome! What Volvo model do you have?
Hi Steve! Any chance you could run us through Volvo App?
Hey Simon, I'll add that one to the list the next time I'm in a Volvo!
Very good info video and clear description. Thanks. Some doubt regards

@@CarsWithSteve thank you!
Is there an option in Google Maps to switch the map to a satellite view?
It would usually be under settings but there's no option to change it out that I was able to find when shooting this video
get the 12.3in screen worth all the money in long run, don't get the small 9in framed with think black plastic frame around :(
I didn't know there's a 12.3" screen available from the factory for the XC40.. or is there an aftermarket one you're talking about?
I thought Apple car play only gave u half screen on this car
Wasn't full screen limited to the previous gen screen? I've only seen this one full screen so far but I'm in North America

The USB port in the dash allows music to be played from a thumbdrive. The USB is listed as an input option in the audio inputs menu.
Apple CarPlay wired?!? Is this a joke from the 20th century? Good job Volvo! 😂👌👍
HAHA I always think the same thing when I always see only wired as an option. Hopefully they'll introduce it the next time the screens get an update
@@CarsWithSteve right! Thanks for your video!
anytime!
It could be related to some sort of licensing issue
But is it possible to make it wireless only by means of a new software or the car needs an additional device?
This system is a dealbreaker.
Why is that?
No Android auto despite Volvo stating it has it. Shambolic.
Where do they state that Android Auto is there? I've seen some marketing materials saying the screen features Android Automotive OS but that's the operating system of the screen and not the phone app...
Maybe it’s only for uk
That could be it for sure. I have to find my way to EU next year to review some different spec cars
