Another legend has passed. Nice dedication. Rest In Peace.
My pleasure, Rob.
Really appreciate you shifting gears to cover the great Mr. Chiba. Sad news indeed. Thank you.
@Chris Perry Thanks for watching it.
RIP Sonny. Thanks as always Terry, I just bought Terror Beneath the Sea from eBay based on your comments..
Let me know how the movie works for you @Griff
Its on TUBI for those who cant wait!
@@trull122 thanks. I'll wait but that's good info for others.
@@terrytalksmovies ok, in the meantime Wake in Fright is on TUBI. What does Terry say about it?
Thanks Terry.
I first discovered Sonny Chiba through True Romance when Christina Slater goes to the Street Fighter Marathon. I think I order those movies on import for a stupid price but I watched them over and over again.
I got mine from Amazon and the set was around $50 our money, mate. Not a bad deal.
"So, you want to take me to a Kung-fu movie?"
"Three Kung-fu movies."
This es EXACTLY how i got into Sonny Chiba too! Through "True Romance"....and right after, I stumbled onto a box set that had Golgo 1, Street Fighter (1 and 2), and Karate Warriors....classic, fun films! R.I.P., Mr Chiba.
Very sad to lose an actor and marshal artist like this RIP Sonny Chiba
I had to Re watch The Street Fighter today.. I hope his energy form returns soon! Thank you for a fitting tribute to the silver screen king!
He was such fun in so many movies.
I’m getting 30 stones right now and gonna watch street fighter and part 2 tonight.
Watch The Legend of The 8 Samurai it's awesome, not the incest scene, but the rest of the movie is!
I just watched the first in the Sister Street Fighter series, in which Chiba has a supporting role.
He pulled somebody's intestines out and it was great 👍
Watch Street Fighter. He pulls someone's schlong off in that one.
@@terrytalksmovies nice!
R.I.P Shin'ichi "Sonny" Chiba, thank you for all the wonderful hours of entertainment you've provided! He was an absolute force of nature both on the screen and in the martial arts community. HIs character, Takuma "Terry" Tsurugi from "The Street Fighter" series, richly deserves to go down as one of Cinemas all-time great anti-heroes! Thank you @TerryTalksMovies 4 not only getting on this so quickly but doing such a bang-up job in so short a Time! Sad to say, but I don't think Sonny's passing will even be a blip on the radar to most of the other YT film commentators out there. Keep up the great work! Cheers
I am really hanging out to get that Shock Factory blu-ray set of The Street Fighter trilogy. I need some old school action cinema magic during lockdown.
@@terrytalksmovies While Bruce could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, Sonny would just rip out your eyes break your arm to where the bone came through the skin, and then emasculate you and he was just getting started.
Thank you for this, Terry. Not gonna lie. I feel sort of gutted
@Fletch Keilman, do did I. I always liked his films.
RIP
Bullet Train is one of the greatest films ever made
Terry you excell at profiles and memorials. I miss the actor of the week, but I can see how it could be a grind. Still you did spotlight individuals over looked by your peers. If it wasn't for you I'd never know who Sonny Chiva was, and I thank you for that.
My pleasure.
R.i.p to a true legend everytime I hear a thunderstorm I will believe it's a sparring match between Bruce Lee and Sonny Chiba.
RIP Mr. Chiba!
when i first watched The Street Fighter the one thing the struck me about Sonny Chiba was that he was the exact opposite of what a cinematic martial artist was supposed to be,angry, ungraceful and needlessly brutal, and i hope that where ever he ends up there is a dojo full of punks he can show that to
Absolutely, a relentless blunt instrument.
Thanx for sharing. Without you I didn't notice it at all...
My pleasure.
Wow. I think I saw Sonny Chiba movies, but didn't know his name. In the 70's, I saw a lot of martial arts movies on TV and in art houses. Thank you for the bio. I'll try to get " The Street Fighter" series and see his movies.
Have fun, @Hugo Pritchard. They're groovy 70s movies.
Thanks for this. I had no idea of his films prior to Street fighter! Glad you let everyone know that he was more than just a one note trivia answer. Was rewatching Street fighter on Tubi and noted how straight up brutal it was. He's the ethos of karate: attacking in a straight line with brutal efficiency. My Kung Fu teacher used to yell "more flow! This is not karate!" when the movements were too abrupt. Which is the difference between him and Bruce Lee, I guess.
I also liked the sister Street fighter series that he inspired. It was great because Sue shiomi actually knew how to fight as opposed to the choreographed stuff usually seen
Bruce Lee was Fred Astaire, Jackie Chan was the Nicholas Brothers and Sonny Chiba was Gene Kelly.
Damn it. RIP Sonny. Going to watch Streetfighter now!
Enjoy.
Dammit! Another legend gone. I called my consigliere and ordered a hit on Covid. It will soon sleep with the fishes. Best, Don Lorenzo
1:35: Has anybody seen my record?
Cheers, Sonny. A tip of the karate chop to ya.
Yep. With Shang-Chi coming out soon, I'm in a rabbit hole of Asian action cinema right now.
Recently I saw Terror Under the Sea and, not being all that familiar with Sonny Chiba, I didn't know that he was the lead male actor. He was very good and clearly had presence in his early career. Peggy Neal as the female lead did well too.
Unusually, Peggy Neal and Sonny Chiba were set up as a romantic couple in the movie. At the time that wasn't always the case with couples of different races.
RIP Sonny Chiba
Indeed
Wonderful dedication ❤️🐸
Thank you.
Nice tribute to Sonny.
Thank you!
Thank you
Welcome!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
rest in peace terry tsuguri
Yep.
Sorry to hear this. I've seen the Street Fighter series but in the US dubbed versions. Also seen Golgo 13, Bullet Train, Terror Beneath the Sea, Karate Kiba (the one with the "Biblical" passage Tarantino used in Pulp Fiction), The Fall of Ako Castle (Fukasaku's version of the 47 Ronin story), G. I. Samurai, Legend of the 8 Samurai.
There are still a few of those for me to see, but I intend to get through more of Sonny Chiba's movies.
Sad to say, the US version of THE STREET FIGHTER Trilogy is sold out on Amazon, and Shout Factory US doesn't even show it as existing!
They must've sold out last night.
Wasn't there a scene in one of the Street Fighter movies where Chiba casually brushed his hand over the face of a bad guy, the guys screams and then Chiba opens his hand and the guy's eyeballs are in his hand? I saw this at a drive-in when I was 8 or 9 and I think I threw up in my popcorn.
Yeah, that movie was bloody and I love it!
RIP Mr. Chiba. You know a lot about movies and maybe you can help me with finding out what a title of a movie is based on very little information. When I was a child living in Hawaii, I saw much Japanese content on the television during the mid to late 70's. There was one movie that really creeped me out as a kid and the only thing I remember about it is some strange crab or spiderlike creatures( about the size of a small dog or cat) chasing people around. This is clearly not the main plot of the movie but that's what haunts me. lol That's it, that's all I can give you. That's not enough for google, but maybe you could help me. Thanks for your time and the videos.
Can anyone help Richard with this one?
I should add that I'm not even sure if it was a movie. I know I used to watch Ultra 7/ Ultraman shows so it could have been one of those.
@@terrytalksmovies I figured this out. It wasn't a Japanese movie at all and it was made in 1982. It was a movie about a family that moves to Japan called The House Where Evil Dwells.
@@richardkempton1894 Doug McClure FTW!
I hate to say this, but after seeing him in the action movies I didn't recognize Sonny Chiba as the old swordsmith in Kill Bill.
He was still a suave MoFo, though.
Personally I thought Sonny made Kill Bill Vol. 1. I've had more than 1 argument about that, but what do people know? Perfect casting there.
It is perfect casting but I think KB is full of great choices, including Michael Parks in two roles.
JINGi NAKI TATAKAI !
OHTOMO!
This is sad news, but it did also remind me of Gordon Liu's Pei Mei. Surely one of my favorite movie moments ever ua-cam.com/video/3VtfqAym5sQ/v-deo.html
GOLGO 13!!!!!!
Good one!
