We FINALLY made it back to Chiang Mai, Thailand 🇹🇭 (one of our favorite cities in the world)! We hope you enjoy the walking and motorbike 🏍 tour of this beautiful community in 2022! Let us know if you have any questions 😊
Doi Suthep is the main reason people travel to chaig Mai for and rightly so, the most beautiful temple in Thailand by far and the views over Chiang Mai are stunning, this should have been shown
I found your channel randomly via a UA-cam suggestion. I watch a lot of Thailand vlogs and videos. I must say that, at least in this video (because I have not seen your other videos) you have captured some beautiful perspectives with bright colors, vibrant views, and your choice of angles and camera placement makes the video very attractive. It stands out among the crowd of folks doing videos in Thailand. The way the gold shines on the Buddha, the views of the canals, Monks sweeping and doing things, etc... all well timed and well captured. I just wanted to drop this note of thanks for the well done video. Thank you
I've not watched your videos for a while. But your video quality has improved massively and I really love you're putting more info on your videos e.g prices. Time to binge watch all your previous videos. Keep up the great content.
Thank you guys for this honest and positive review of the city, thanks for showing my favorite temple in the world, Wat Chedi Luang, you made my day! Love how natural the story flows during the video. Send you luck from Chile.
What beautiful temples...I'm awestruck. I also like your opinions at the end of the vlog that the trip to Thailand is worth it if you're gonna stay a while, not for a short trip with all the uncertainty of the dreaded C word. I look forward to your next vlog of your travels in this beautiful country. I was very young when I visited Thailand back in the 70's so I can't remember much. But watching your wonderful vlogs brings back memories...
I've been in Chiang Mai for 5 weeks and I haven't seen any 7-11 stores that are closed, so there aren't many that are. (I started out in Phuket for a week and 95% of their 7-11s were closed.) I'm also in the Nimman area and I'm going to try Cheva & Chavee. FYI, I went to a great class at the Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School you pointed out, and it was so much fun! I asked specifically to be put into a busy class, and there were 16 of us.
I've been looking forward to your Thailand postings and enjoyed this one very much. Although things have changed in Chiang Mai and entry rules are no longer the same since you filmed this several months ago, it is still great to see and will be looking forward to the next ones.
Thank you! Plenty more Thailand videos are currently in the works. Yep, trying to be current with how often the Thai government changes the entry requirements has been tough. Glad you enjoyed this video!
I've lived in Chiang Mai for 8 years and even with a big bike, I have barely scratched the surface of the events and attractions in Northwest Thailand. The dry Songkran this year was weird. I live in the Nimman area and usually we have very large Chinese tourist traffic. So it seems a bit dead. Back before the February unrest in Burma the covid numbers were so low it seemed like covid was under control but when the unrest started in Burma refugees and tribal people came thru the porous Thai/ Burma border. The south had more trouble with migrants than the North and fish markets were closed in BKK and at one point inter-provincial travel was not allowed in the 5 provinces surrounding Bangkok. Have a great time, BTW, Qingdao, China is a remarkable city if you're city hopping. It is where the 2008 Olympic Rowing and sailing events were held and it was occupied by both the Germans and the Japanese so it has an interesting area where there are German castles and Japanese style architecture. It is generally considered one of the top three Chinese cities for beauty. All the 7-11's on Hua Kaew are all open.BTW: Kao soi is Chinese in origin and the further South you go, the harder it is to find. An earthquake caused the damage to Wat Chedi Luang several hundred years ago.Happy Trails.
I’m (finally) heading back to Chiang Mai in June. I’m hoping to make side-trips to Singapore and Cambodia while I’m there. Your video gave me some new places to go/try in Chiang Mai. Thank you.
Awesome video! We’re in Bangkok right now and going to Phuket later this month but this video made us wish we had more time to explore and go to Chiang Mai.
loved your take on chiang mai...have you guys been to mae hong son...a little north of chiang mai...amazing little town...i think you'd love it...the whole town meets for a community dinner every night around a beautiful lake...and two awesome buddhist temples for blissing out...$10 a night gets you an incredible hotel overlooking the lake...so keep on truckin!
Thank you; glad you enjoyed it! We haven’t been, but now adding that Town to our next trip up north! Sounds like a memorable and unique experience. Thank you
OK, you talked me into it. I’ll be arriving September 2 for 8 weeks. I’ve read, barring another Covid spike, Thailand should have all restrictions gone except for possibly the Covid insurance by July. I’ve got a house between Chiangmai and San Kamphaine that I haven’t visited in almost 4 years. The same goes for Thai friends. Looking forward to it.
Ofcourse there will be more covid spikes it's a mutating viral disease like flu , it's constantly going to be evolving , but so will our immunity , the sooner these world governments realize this and just let the world get going again and heal all the extra poverty created by this the better , sadly Thailand seems to be way behind in this belief compared to Cambodia and Vietnam .... It's the Thai people that rely on tourism that I feel sorry for
Remember Thailand is ruled by a military junta who are using Covid as an excuse to continually extend the state of emergency. So don't plan on any restrictions being removed. Already they are backtracking on declaring the virus endemic by July 1st. There are so many businesses that have closed permanently and of course bars & entertainment venues have been closed for over a year although some have reopened as restaurants. Life here is dull, people see no light at the end of the tunnel. Enjoy your return.
Hi Ashley and Jordan, very good video, your video are awesome. Thumb Up. Very detailed information with location pin dropped. I have visited Chiang Mai 4 times. The best way to move around the Chiang Mai city is to rent a small scooter and roaming around. I have produced some traveling videos in Chiang Mai, but your videos are way much better than mine. I was using GoPro Hero 6 camera for my blog. Your video, sharpness, and night scene are way better than mine. Can you share, what video camera you used for this video production? Thanks a lot. Stay safe and have a wonderful time! Sending greetings with good luck from Singapore.
Hi Peter, thank you so much for the compliments and well wishes! We love Chiang Mai and agree that a motorbike is the best way to explore the city and surrounding area. We listed our filming gear on our website here: keepgoingplaces.com/our-gear/best-travel-vlogging-gear-and-equipment-for-youtube/ . We used the Sony camera and lenses, the GoPro Hero 9 listed, and our drone.
Thank you for the tips. Just booked a flight to Chiang Mai, for tomorrow. We are in Bangkok right now and wanted to go to southern Islands next, but because of Rain all day there at the moment. Chiang Mai Looks perfekt.
I really want to visit or even live in chiang mai in general, one, because my friend lives there, and two, just because I think thailand is just a beautiful place to be in. Thanks for this vid!
We saw photos of Chiang Mai in Wat Prah Singh from the 1950s and it looked wildly different. I believe there was a photo of Songkran from that time too, which was neat.
@@watsonthai177 I live in San Bruno but have a house in Chiang Mai Hang Dong area. What was it like in 1960? I was born in 1962 and know what the Bay Area was like in the 60’s until now. It was better before!
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel. Brings back good memories of living in Chiang Mai. Greetings from Koh Samui. How long will you be in Thailand?
Loved the 🏍 tour ! - The 🥛 🍩 looked incredible & were actually fairly expensive by Thai prices but apparently a very worthwhile treat 😋. Never have seen a 7-11 closed. That's a bummer 😕. I wonder if Southland corporation owns them 🤔 - Keep Having Fun ! 👋
Thank you, David! Glad you enjoyed it. Those were definitely expensive compared to typical local prices, but made up with the $1.50 Khao Soi! 7-11s being shut down is very unusual. Looking forward to sharing the next video soon!
Of course 7-11 is not owned by Southland it is owned by CP which is a local conglomerate. Many outlets are franchises so those with financial issues have to close. Like all other countries Thailand is suffering from inflation that is affecting all kinds of costs for businesses, in turn they are forced to raise prices because after 2 years of economic mismanagement by the junta they are in precarious financial condition. And there is no expectation of an improvement any time soon.
Thank you so much; glad you enjoyed it! It's very sad to see the impact on the locals and their businesses. Hopefully, they will bounce back soon and tourists start to visit again like before.
great video!! Is july a good time to visit chiang mai with family? i am planning trip to thailand in july and want to visit this place, Can you suggest what places will be good to visit in july with kids. Thank you.
Hi Rohni S, the best time to visit Chiang Mai will be around December to February. It is a cold season and high season. I have visited Chiang Mai a total 4 times. I am not sure do you like animals? This is a place to visit will be Tiger Kingdom, Monkey School in Mae Rim. Another place to visit will be Doi Inthanon National Park. The highest mountain in Thailand. Many nature waterfalls. I hoped this help. Cheers
Thanks! We’ve never been in July, but that’s after the Smokey season which is good, but it’s the height of the rainy season, which isn’t so great. If you’re flexible enough to deal with the rain, then you may be fine with it.
Just curious, it seemed like in so many store fronts it was common to see English words--did most of your communication with locals take place in English?
Yes, most locals in the places tourist tend to visit will speak some or fluent English. But, the further off the touris track you go, the less English will be spoken.
At least one large well known elephant camp is in dire straits and unable to feed them correctly. Already 20 have died from poor nutrition and I'll health. These camps are an abomination and animal welfare is far from good. They ought to be abolished.

How come that with all of this yummy food that the American phase “Tastes so good, make you wanna slap yo momma” never escapes your lips? Or do you say it off camera, in order to stay in your mom's good books?
